Help! This is driving me nuts!

So this just started happening for no reason what so ever.

My mouse will click random things, double click when I didn't double click, not open something properly when I click on it, it'll highlight words and images just by me clicking on it, and just generally acting up. I checked to make sure all my drivers were up to date and they were. I'm using the standard wired mouse that came with the computer I bought so it's new. It's starting to piss me off.

I had a similar problem with a wired mouse about 2 months ago and replacing the mouse did the trick. It didn't do a lot of clicking, but would randomly pop up all over the place or wouldn't move at all. I don't think it is a virus, but other than the usual virus/spyware check and switching the mouse, there may be a conflict with a newly installed piece of hardware or software. I would change the mouse first.

I apologize if I am stating anything obvious, but I hope this helps somewhat!

Yeah changing the mouse was my next choice. I ran my virus protection and it didn't pick up any threats. Plus I'm pretty anal when it comes to what I put on my computer, what I click, all of that. It probably IS the mouse itself so maybe I can find a spare one laying around here somewhere. Thanks!

Not a problem! I was angrily stalking my house two days before I finally figured I should switch the mouse and see what happens! haha

I switched the mouse...

And now it works. That's the craziest thing I've ever seen. It was working perfectly fine one minute and then the next it decided to go haywire. Change the mouse and boom, it's fine.

Was it a wireless mouse? Sometimes you can get crazy going with them things when the battery is getting to end of life.

Justin,

If your wired mouse is LASER, and not track ball, that could mean there's some dirt inside interfering with the censor.

If it's trackball, perhaps it just needs a good cleaning.

Either way, you're a dirty dirty man.

I can't help that when I'm done -completely bleeped out- and then -completely bleeped out- I'm too damn tired to -completely bleeped out.- So don't judge me, FORD!
