More Info:   The hard-working referees of the IWL are getting the night off at Overdrive! 77 . . .

In a surprise announcement from Leon Holmes, it was announced that the next edition of Overdrive would feature special referees in every match. The refs were chosen from the IWL locker room and, needless to say, they were quite a few shake-ups present when the matches were announced.

The first bout pits the tough-as-nails Sammy J against Madam Jessi in the first women’s match the IWL has seen in recent memory. Jessi had snubbed Sammy during the previous edition of Overdrive, denying her the tag that she needed during their pairing. Sammy is looking to extract some revenge against a woman she views as nothing close to her equal in the ring. Can Madam Jessi prove her merits in the ring this week? That is the question on everyone’s mind, especially since the special referee for this match will be none other than Crazy Boy, a man Jessi has encountered and even threatened in the interim since Overdrive! 76.

Continuing to pair odd wrestlers in an attempt to bolster the tag team division, Holmes also announced that AJ Phoenix and The Blazing Salvo would be taking on the IWL Tag Team Champions, Jack Campbell and Sylvester Stone, in a non-title bout. Considering that Phoenix is still without a partner to challenge the champs, the door is wide open for auditions to continue for that spot, and Salvo is as good as they come right now. The Tag Champs will be looking to recover from their loss last week, though, so Phoenix and Salvo will have to bring themselves together as a team if they hope to overcome the duo. And Salvo particularly will have the deck stacked against him as Hellbender will be the special referee for this match.

For the first time since she won the title, T-Bird will be defending her Intercontinental Title against the man she defeated for it, Jose Ramon. It’s a King of the CyberRing rematch featuring two people who both lay claim to the title and who both refuse to give up the notion that the other doesn’t deserve it. But what happens when you add the title-hungry Chris Childs to the match as the referee? One word: pandemonium.

In a classic “what if” match, IWL Heavyweight Champion Crazy Boy will make his second appearance of the evening as he goes toe-to-toe with the longest reigning IWL Television Champion of all time, The Nightmare. This will be a non-title match to be sure, but there is a certain amount of pride on the line as both men have been on a hot streak lately, and Crazy Boy has definitely taken exception to The Nightmare surpassing his title reign with the Television Championship. But he may not be able to pull off the win as Madam Jessi will return the favor of his refereeing by putting on the stripes for this match. Crazy Boy just might think twice about treating her unfairly during the earlier match, as it is quite obvious that she will have the capability to make his life hell.

The main event will see the culmination of a challenge that was laid down months ago by Click: he wanted to face Laverle Emmanuel’s wrestler before he knew who he was. Now, he’ll face that man: “The San Francisco Treat” Michael Platt. But the intrigue does not end there because this will be a tag team match with Click’s partner, Hellbender, on one side and Platt’s partner on the other. The real mystery is who will fill that vacant spot; Platt has left the decision to Leon Holmes and we all know how he likes to shake things up. Could it be Hawk? Marcus Gratton? Triple X? Or maybe even someone else? The one person it won’t be, though, will be The Nightmare who will be the special referee for the match. Given the tension between the Television Champion and Click, SFT definitely has an edge despite his partner’s mystery status. Regardless, Platt will have his hands full and his undefeated streak to worry about this week. His fate lies squarely in the hands of Leon Holmes and whomever becomes his partner.
