Featured Main Event: The Canada Cup semi-finals and finals were the focus of this show, and Jake Phoenix and "The Ego Buster" Dan Ryan kicked the show off with a bang. There was no quarter given, none taken when these two behemoths beat the living hell out of each other. Both men were bloody and bruised by the end, when Dan Ryan was able to score a Humility Bomb on the near seven-foot Phoenix for an exhausted three count.
In the other semi-final, underdog Trent Daniels overcame manager interference and Prince Darko's reckless style to score a major upset victory and move into the finals! This was another long match, leaving both finalists worn out, with only a little time to regain their energy before the main event!
Daniels and Ryan matched up in a rematch from several weeks ago, when the veteran Ryan put Daniels away despite the rookie's best efforts. Daniels showed a new determination, going after Ryan with his best moves. The two exchanged their biggest moves, Daniels kicking out of the Bluegrass Bomb to the shock of the crowd, Ryan surviving Systems Crash with a foot on the ropes. Dan Ryan hit Daniels with huge blows, but Daniels would not die! However, no matter how much his heart willed him to keep going, eventually his body could not. Dan Ryan scored the win with the Burning Hammer, once again beating Daniels, and becoming the 2008 Canada Cup winner!
More Info:
"The Ego Buster" Dan Ryan d. Jake Phoenix in a Canada Cup semi-final.
Heritage Champion Stone Zellor came out for a promo to celebrate his record-breaking title reign. He was confronted by Dez Carter, Jacob Venar, and Trent Daniels --- all men Stone had screwed out of the title in his recent defenses. Stone refused to give another shot to anybody, but commissioner Terry Brandon thought they all had valid cases... so signed a FOUR-CORNERS Heritage Title match for Pure Dynamite with all four men!
Southern Destruction d. Ian Smith's Mystery Massacre Team. SD demanded a shot at Sexy Adorable Drunks if they won. Smith agreed, but when SD DID win, he told them they'd get a match... but it would only be non-title (if SAD were still the champions). Dickweed.
Trent Daniels d. Prince W. Darko in a Canada Cup semi-final.
"The Show" Chad Kurtis d. "Inevitable" David Gage. This was supposed to be a triple-threat, but Stein did not appear when his music played. The Show took the NAPW newcomer out with the CK Finale, but Gage did make a good showing of himself, no doubt earning a roster spot. Gage was seconded by his mentor, the injured Teddy Davis.
NAPW World Champion Donovan Astros and The Beast had an in-ring confrontation. The Beast announced his chosen stipulation for their final encounter at PURE DYNAMITE. It would be an I QUIT match... inside of a steel cage!
"Bluegrass Badass" Matthew Kurtis d. "Bad Boy" Joey Malone. But after the match, Joey's friends stormed the ring to stop Matt from inflicting further damage on the man! Esteban gave Kurtis a bronco buster, Big Mitch dropped a fat guy splash on him, and in the end, Kurtis was embarrassed by the jobbers despite the win. No telling how angry he will be!
Sexy Adorable Drunks d. Mystic Exposition to retain the NAPW Tag Titles. This match was under NORMAL RULES per a Terry Brandon ruling, when he offered Mystic Expo any stip of their choice for this rematch. SAD looked out of sorts without their usual "Superstar Rules" no-dq, no count-out advantage. It was a back and forth contest, ending in yet more controversy when Tommy Deathrow smashed a vodka bottle over Mystic Ninja's head while Ian Smith had the referee distracted, leading to the win for SAD. Post-match, SAD planned to take Mystic Expo out PERMANENTLY, setting up a table and bringing in a ladder, but a bloody Mystic Ninja turned the tide! ME took out SAD and then Ninja hit a Shooting Star Senton (SHURIKEN PRESS) from the top of the ladder through Deathrow on the table! This feud has escalated even further!
"LDK" Lloyd Rees d. "The Falcon" Jacob Venar in a rematch from last November, which Venar won (the start of his popularity and momentum). The two partners and friends were competing in a "Toughen Up" match as each had a very bad Canada Cup Part 1. The match pitted Rees' technical acumen against Venar's speed and high-flying. They went back and forth in a long contest, which Rees was finally able to win after a series of pinfall reversals. The two men shook hands.
After the match, Rees stayed in the ring and called out his turncoat former manager Ol' Salty. Salty came out flanked by security and gave Rees no answers, slapping him on the face. Rees was subdued by security, but they could not hold him. Several young wrestlers came out to help, and in the melee David Gage was nailed by a flailing Rees. Gage and Rees almost got into it, but Teddy Davis calmed his protege down... THEN HIT REES WITH HIS NEW FINISHER! Davis threw the sling off, he's FINE, and Davis and Gage proceeded to beat down Rees! Venar came out to make the save, but Rees is left with even MORE questions now.
In a World Championship match, KRENSHOV defeated Donovan Astros to become the NAPW World Champion! Krenshov came in at a clear disadvantage thanks to the "Tonya Harding" style attack he suffered last week. Astros targeted the leg early and often, but in a shocking upset and incredible story, KRENSHOV was able to deliver Total Eclipse (on one leg!) and earn the NAPW gold that has long eluded him!
"The Ego Buster" Dan Ryan d. Trent Daniels to win the 2008 Canada Cup.
