GOLD RUSH Changes Announced -- Posted by Chad on Friday, July 28 2006
ANNIVERSARY's ULTIMATE GOLD RUSH match already has 35 participants signed up for their chance to win the UNIFIED World Title or one of the CSWA's three other championships. The match is still open to all-comers to sign up through the end of the weekend.
The CSWA's owner, Stephen Thomas, made an additional announcement about the GOLD RUSH available today via press release. Instead of the winner from each battle royal in the four outer rings advancing to the center ring to face Troy Windham for the UNIFIED Title, he has doubled the number of participants available to advance.
The final TWO battle royal participants in each of the four rings will advance to the center ring, meaning that UNIFIED Champion Troy Windham could potentially face an 8-on-1 encounter to try and retain his title. However, with the other titles on the line, there must be an acknowledged winner in each ring before the two can move on to the center ring.
More information on GOLD RUSH is available at: http://www.fwrestling.com/fwc/forumdisplay.php?f=340
Announcing FWblogs.com -- Posted by Chad on Thursday, July 27 2006
It's only in beta-test, but I'm looking for some brave souls who are interested in testing out something that's been cooking for a while: FWblogs.com.
The current site is barebones, and the intention is to integrate it with the main page and community pages here on FWrestling. But I need some folks who are willing to put the system through it's paces, make suggestions, and tell me what sorts of additional functionality/themes/etc. are needed. Again, please be aware that this is beta, so I can't guarantee that it won't explode at some point.
If you have a current blog, please test drive the system anyway. If you like it, you have the option to use the Import feature to bring your current blog (via Blogger, LiveJournal or other systems) over to FWblogs with all your posts and comments intact. (Nifty, huh?)
This news post will be posted on FW Central as well, as a place that you can discuss the site, the features, suggestions, etc.
Ivy League: The Most Painful Column -- Posted by Chad on Thursday, July 27 2006
THE IVY LEAGUE:
THE MOST PAINFUL COLUMN I'VE EVER WRITTEN
I would avoid it if I could.
I would go on strike, boycott the CSWA website, and drop the reins back between Teri's Melons, if I could. I would do anything in my power and anything out of its reach to avoid saying these six words about the Gold Rush match. But, despite the fact that my columns are slanted to my opinions, and I don't make any secret of that, I am also a firm believer in facts and truth.
Goddamn, this is painful.
Troy Windham is going to win.
There, it's done. Put a bullet in the back of my head before I get the chance.
I hate Troy Windham. I wish excruciating death on this man for the hell he spent a decade putting myself, Eli Flair, Eli's pretty wife and daughter through. Troy Windham is the only wrestler that I've wished career - ending injury on.
But Troy Windham is currently proving, with very little effort on his part, that his UNIFIED Championship belongs right where it is, around his waist.
You self - righteous, self - serving, egotistical little fuckwit, I will never forgive you for being such a damn fine wrestler.
It's not all Troy, however. This GOLD RUSH match (that Thomas owes me a nickel for every time someone says the name) hasn't exactly brought out the cream of the crop. On one hand, this is a good thing, because a lot of the established names over the past few years - PARTICULARLY the wrestlers who were active and household names the last time the UNIFIED title was in its prime - have either retired or are indifferent. This is going to force those unknowns to really dig down and show what they're made of.
On the other hand... Xias? Eron the Relentless Suckfest?
Troy was right, Xias - you'll never become Unified Champion doing a poor man's impression of the Unified champion seven years ago. Damn you, Xias, to the pits of hell for making me agree with Troy. And Eron, as he was so fond of pointing out, hasn't done anything of value in seven years now.
Nine years ago, Troy Windham was the CSWA World Champion. Seven years ago he was still wrestling for that very same belt. Eron screwed the Frenchie, which is a few hundred steps below the Poopman being Greensboro Champion.
But let me break it down for you. The UNIFIED Championship is something akin to a legend in the world of professional wrestling. This was the belt that defined an entire industry for a period of two years back in the mid 1990s, and the champions who held that belt are household names everywhere.
Hornet.
Mark Windham.
Mike Randalls.
Steven Flair.
These were men who defined the industry - and are still defining that industry. These are the men that the UNIFIED champion has to measure up to.
How many of the Gold Rush participants will still be relevant in a year? In five? In eighteen? Make the jokes about the CSWA while you can - the company has been struggling in the past few years but the impact is still second to none. And if it's not, why is everyone here fighting for the CSWA's gold?
And if it's not, why did the former Eastern Hemisphere Champion spend at least forty percent of his talking time during Week Eight referencing the CSWA? Why did the former Eastern Hemisphere Champion privately beg for another shot?
I've gotta go with the odds, however, and that unless someone shows me something beyond a two - dimensional caricature of what a professional wrestler is expected to be, none of you have what it takes to hold the UNIFIED Championship. There's been a lot of talk, and a lot of wrestlers either blending in with each other or square-peg fitting into one of a dozen character types, but there's been not a single glimpse of anyone who can hold a candle to the King of the Slackers.
Except for Dan Ryan. Please don't let me down.
Because if you don't, I don't think these kids have near the skills to save the CSWA from the King of the Slackers. And I don't think I can deal with a reality where Troy Windham comes out on top.
I feel dirty just saying it.
This is Ivy.

Pretty much, that is. FW Central has been upgraded and has a new skin that needs a tweak or two. There's an additional skin that I may release an option once it's been tinkered with.
And there's more coming, thanks to yours truly and Katz. I'll let you know as it get closer to being ready.
