Vengeance strikes with a vengeance
The top two A1E titles changed hands at Vengeance in Las Vegas this past week, and Big Dog's mystery partner was an old face returning to A1E after saying he'd never wrestle in an A1E ring again.
Housefly regained the A1E World Heavyweight Championship for a third time after defeating Ken Cloverleaf in a hotly contested match in the main event, a hybrid Ladder/Last Man Standing match where the winner had to knock his opponent out with the A1E World Championship belt. Fly won the return match after winning by disqualification at Sudden Death over Cloverleaf. After he won though, Cloverleaf spat on him and the refs needed to hold them back from each other. The issue between the two probably hasn't been settled yet. Stay tuned.
In other title change news, Andrew Gilkison defeated Steven Shane for the Cyber Title. Gilkison is now a two time Cyber Championship winner.
In what was perhaps the most brutal match of the night, AJ Cirrus triumphed over Duchess in a Hell-in-the-Cell match. The two destroyed both the Spanish and French announce tables, harkening back to the original Vengeance when JA and Canadian Hitman destroyed the Inuit announce table.
Speaking of the Anglo Luchador, Jericoholic Anonymous was Big Dog's mystery partner, returning to A1E to defeat the Tag Team Champions Torment and Haven in a non-title match. However, the Champs got the last laugh by assaulting the two after the match.
Sources say that JA's appearance is not a one-night deal and that JA signed a contract with his original home of the national companies two weeks ago. JA, who said in the Torch after his departure from A1E in early 2003 that he'd never step foot in an A1E ring again, and who hinted that fulltime A1E work wasn't on his agenda after this match with Euclid in the summer of 2004 in an interview with Dave Meltzer, will work fulltime schedules for three promotions (EPW and CSWA being the other two) for the time being.
In other title action, Beast staved off Prisoner 187 to retain his Survivor Championship, and Chip Friendly retained the Triple Star Championship after his valet, Juen Lee, pinned Canuck.
In the other match of the evening, Richard Farnswirth defeated Mr. Incredible. No word yet on whether Mr. Incredible will have to honor the stipulation that he leave A1E after Golden Dreams V because of the loss, since Farnswirth resisted it before the match.
