West Under an Invictus Invasion?
On the eve of another round of Monday Night Wars in the sport of wrestling, a silent deadly stroke cut through the industry as NFW's West Conference announced that former tSC 'the Championship' holders, Rook Black and Alias (Chris Sheffield) had reached deals to compete under their banner for Season Two.
Considered two of the best wrestlers of 2004, both at one time holding top honors in the Squared Circle, it came as little surprise that New Frontier would attempt to sign the unrestricted Free Agent in Black, as well as the current All-Star Championship Wrestling superstar/legend.
Black and Sheffield had competed with 'The Wolf' Mike Randalls (one of the West's initial signings) as the alliance 'Invictus' for a good portion of 2004, until Randalls broke off from the group. Its been reported that Randalls was a big influence on both men coming to the Frontier, but the glory of the Ultratitle probably isn't lost on two top champions of 2004.
President Quentin Sullivan disclosed that Black's contract for the season is an $850,000 base contract with a ceiling of $1.5M if Black is holding up the Ultratitle Trophy in victory at Wrestlebowl II.
Apparently, Chris Sheffield's contract was worked much differently as Sheffield is due to make $470,000 every three months (plus added payment incentives if he makes it into the play-offs and/or wins the Ultratitle), and came with a $5000 signing bonus. With the contract set for the entire season, NFW has the right to sever the contract after any three month payment period if it looks as if Alias cannot compete at a competitive level due to work exhausion.
With Sheffield's short stay in the fWo, Sheffield's history dictates that added pressures outside of ACW may render him unable to finish the season.
The short-lived Squared Circle was considered the premier technical wrestling federation in the world before Harvard Avalon's untimely passing. By securing the rights of two out of the three Championship holders during its existence, the West has proven that amidst all the violence that there may be a committment to wrestling excellence, yet.
