Retrospective: The Prelude is Over
Hello folks, Clint Connor here for what will hopefully become a regular feature on our promotion's official site. In many ways I can't be more thrilled with how Revolution Pro has turned out so far. When my longtime friend Matthew Vorankias- better known to many of you as Xias- called me up with his ideas for a new promotion, I can't say that I was instantly sold. After all, this is the same guy who came up with the rather "brilliant" idea to add an i to the IOW name and watch the money roll in. Perhaps the primary difference in Revolution Pro, other than dropping the lead weight of the IOW name, was more involvement from others. The Revolution Pro Board of Directors is a varied group of men and women, people who bring a great deal of experience to promoting wrestling of many different forms, were brought together with the desire to reignite what many feel is a stagnant wrestling scene.
But to his credit, it was Xias who came up with the class system. It was Xias who decided to start this promotion with just four athletes. Four athletes of very varied backgrounds. You see, he felt that too many promotions attempt to focus on too many athletes, too many wrestlers at once, for the viewing audience to really take an emotional investment in. Especially with only 30 minutes of weekly airtime to start off with, Xias felt that it was better to start a promotion off with some real focus. So while at the same time he prepared the 1st Class for its debut, he also put together a 2nd Class of four additional wrestlers, knowing he'd have them ready for when- and it was never a matter of if for Xias, only a matter of when- we were able to secure more weekly airtime for our great product.
So we began with four, and we began with the Prelude series. For four weeks, the plan was for these four men to go out there and show the world what they could do. We were going to start from the bottom and build from the ground up, and that's why we chose Webster Hall, a little nightclub right in the middle of Manhattan, to host all four editions of this series. We wanted to bring that same feel that Monday Night RAW had way back in the day, coming from New York City each and every week in front of the same loyal, fired-up fans. The fans in Webster Hall were so fired up because they knew they were becoming a part of history. A year from now, two years from now, five years from now, they'll be able to look back and say "I was there. I was one of six-hundred who say all four editions of Prelude, the beginning of a professional wrestlign revolution."
The Prelude series is behind us now. But as many of us know in life, not everything goes as planned. Xias wanted the 2nd Class to wait until we had a full hour to properly showcase eight wrestlers' talents. Yes, perhaps there was an element of ego to it as well, but the fact is, without Xias there would be no Revolution Pro at all. The 2nd Class, however, didn't want to wait until Thanksgiving night, at the Avalon in Boston. They didn't want to wait to make their presence felt. So they came to New York City, they came to Webster Hall, and they completely decimated the 1st Class. After we all watched these four men develop rivalries, both new and old, with each other, we saw them all get destroyed by a vicious sneak attack from four men united against them. And Xias, the man who gave these men their chance to shine, took the brunt of it. That monster Thanatos put Xias through a table with the Dead on Impact, a move banned elsewhere and a move that, in my opinion, deserves to be banned here as well, and now Xias is sidelined once again with yet another concussion. It's unknown how serious this concussion is, but given Xias' long history of them, it could keep him out for quite some time. I don't expect him to be at Warfare 1 this Thursday, but I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.
Either way, the Prelude is now over. The 2nd Class, with their impatience and their unwillingness to follow the plan, have declared war on the 1st Class. They are united with a desire to wipe the 1st Class out of existence and claim Revolution Pro for themselves. So now with the end of Prelude, we look forward....to Warfare. The question now on everyone's mind, or at least mine, is quite simply can the 1st Class come together in a similar way? I have my doubts. There's a lot of ego there, and a lot of bad blood between the various members. But perhaps, with their backs to the wall, the 1st Class will surprise us all. I'll be at ringside, this Thursday night in Boston, and I can't wait to find out. See you on FX, and don't forget it's at a brand-new time, 10 p.m. eastern standard time, 9 central, for a full hour! Don't miss it!
