Method To The Maddness: Random Thoughts from PBT

I’ve been in this game nearly 4 years online… not a real long time, but it’s long enough to know what I like and dislike about Fantasy Wrestling. Sure, there are a lot of things to get out of the game; comroddary, writing experience, use of your imagination… but there are drawbacks as well. Especially if you run a fed, as I have for nearly 4 years.
One thing remains constant for me: The unappreciation. It’s not like I’m sitting here, spending every night working on the site, the fed, the shows for you…. Or am I? For FREE… I think most people understand this. Most people understand how much the President of a good Fed does for the Fed. Most people don’t bitch about petty things that may happen. Most people don’t take Efedding WAY too seriously… Or Do They?
Sometimes people don’t realize exactly what a President of a large, popular Fed goes through. They act as if we are actually being paid admission to our shows, then we are making money off of them, just as in real life. They act as if we OWE them something for us doing all this work for them, while they put out 2 or 3 mediocre Role Plays a week. To me, that is about the most backwards thing I can imagine. I’ve on occasion been told to hurry up when doing graphics for people; I’ve been hounded to listen to angle ideas over and over; I’ve been bitched at for having a card a day late due to taking my kids to the emergency room. Sounds crazy, doesn’t it? It has happened. And it has driven me away in the past.
I think my problem in the past is that I am too nice. I try to do too much for too many people. I hand out favors as if it were peppermints in Grandma’s purse. I like for people to like me, and I USED to care what they thought about me… until now. No Longer. GCW has been, and will be an exciting place to play. It will be for a long time to come. But one thing that had to change from last time to this time was the fact that I am making the conscious decision to make this like a business, instead of a game. Far too many people have taken advantage of my kindness, and it has only left me broken and bitter. People say, “It’s not FAIR that you closed GCW down, you wiped the fed clean, and are forcing us to create new characters.” Not Fair? Stand back and look at what we do for you, and what you do for us… and then tell me what is fair or not. Not fair is having a VP of your fed not do ANYTHING for you. Not fair is having people join your fed, you put them in an incredible angle, and they fall flat. Not fair is being bitched at…. PERIOD.
So… Jake and I got to talking. What do we do? It really wasn’t that bad in GCW this time around, but the air was stale… There was some upheaval about the last show, the introduction of the new angle, and the position some wrestlers were in… as if there were some sort of hierarchy within the federation placed upon people. People were upset, without thinking about the big picture, without thinking about what effect it would have on our federation, and strife arose from it. Let me tell you this, if you threaten to leave this fed, you might as well do it, that is how much I care about your “threat”. In GCW, you are what you make yourself. You GET what you put into it… Showing effort is better than being talented and not using it. You make your own storylines… so don’t BITCH at Jake or I. Do something about it – make up an angle, AND STICK WITH IT. We are more than willing to help out with development… with the understanding that our time is not wasted.
If you feel offended or uneasy in reading this, good. That means that you probably offended me more than once. We are here to have fun, and the Resetting and Restructuring of GCW has allowed not just you, but the STAFF as well to have fun. So if you even so much as make a little ripple in GCW, we will notify you that your membership is terminated. Just relax, have fun, and understand that storylines are storylines, and have to be established. Plain and simple.
If I turn people off, fine. I hope people see the sincerity of this, and understand what it is like on the other side of the coin…
