250 Posts... Yay Me!

This is basically a thread to ask who are your fave performers of the past and present and why... For example... Mine are:

Past: Ric Flair - In his prime, Flair was the man. he still is today, but nobody can deny that the man knew how to rile up a crowd but still get the job done in the ring.

Present: Christopher Daniels - Best pure in-ring performer I have ever seen. Great on the mic and virtually un paralelled inside the ring.

Combo (Past & Present): Shawn Michaels - Even though many will state that HBK is past his prime, he has delivered in WWE's best matches of the past few years. He still can deliver on the mic (as is proof with the recent Hogan feud). And in his prime nobody could match him on the mic or in the ring.

Past: Ric Flair, the Horsemen, Sting - From 88 to about 91 in NWA/WCW was amazing. Great story telling from all involved, especially Halloween Havoc 89 with Flair/Sting vs. Terry Funk/Great Muta in the Thunderdome cage. It showed how versatile Flair was in being able to play ANY role.

Present: Based on an entire character, I'd have to say it's a tie between Christopher Daniels and CM PUNK. Daniels is the complete package and can work opposite anyone, Punk is a GOD, accept it, *****es. For just in-ring jazz, I'd say either AJ Styles or Austin Aries. Both are spectacular in the ring.

Combo: Shawn Michaels. Michaels is just plain awesome still to this day in the ring. His mic work has slipped drastically since his first run, but he's still good in there.

I'm adding one now:
Future - Who is your favorite wrestler that isn't a big name yet?
Future: Ken Anderson - Just got signed by WWE which means he'll be wasted, but he's still awesome.
Paul London - Wasted in WWE, but amazing.
Colt Cabana - I hate comedy wrestlers, but this guy has been phenomenol since his first match.

Adding Future Star huh? OK then...

Future Star: Samoa Joe... While many think he is a star now, I feel that he will become much bigger than he already is... Samoa Joe's best days are ahead of him. If he jumps to WWE, they will mis-use him and prolly make him a Rikishi wannabe or even worse, bring back Rikishi and make them a tag team. Hopefully TNA ratings increase when they go to Spike TV so that Samoa Joe can truly flourish. This man doesn't need to speak. He gets it done in the ring and is incredible at it!

OK heres my picks:

Past: Flair, i seen some of his earlier matches and they are wicked. It was fitting to see him on the last even nitro.

Present: Im gonig to say either Christopher Daniels or Batista. Batista has had a mammoth few years. He might not have the mic skills but he is deffinatly got the ring skills. I like him as champion.

Combo: Kurt Angle. He is just superb athlete. He can play the heel perfectly and also he can wrestle any match and make sure its a good one.

Future: Orton has the skills, the looks and the attitude to make it big in WWE. Also AJ Styles is donig well in TNA.

Without a doubt the best wrestler of the past 20 years is Bret Hart. His game was so simple but his style was just incredible. Ultimate Warrior also holds a special place in my heart for the memorable match he had with Hogan at Wrestlemania VI.

Right now AJ Styles probably comes quite high on my list of quality wrestlers purely because he's technically brilliant, even if his character leaves a little to be desired. I guess he counts as one for the future too since currently he's only wrestling in TNA.

EDIT: Forgot Samoa Joe! He's incredible. Definetly one to watch.

Wow, a Bret Hart fan and an Ultimate Warrior fan. Talk about the "What ever happened to?" category. j/k

Past - Two of my all time old school favourites were Jake "The Snake" Roberts and "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase. Two great wresters who took their gimmicks to the same heights as Hogan but never won the big championship.

Present - I know some people are expecting me to say Eugene here but I think I'd have to go with Edge. He hasn't been in that many main events but he has been involved in some memorable matches. Also very original on the mic as seen with the current feud with "The Broken Record" Matt Hardy.

Future - Petey Williams but only if he can find someone to promote him properly.

Ted Dibiase was never world champion?

I know what you mean by the way; last time I heard 'The Warrior' was wrestling in Japan along with Vader (another member of the 'Where are they now?' club) and Bret Hart hasn't been the same since Goldberg trashed his knee.

Geez, favourites of the past, present and future...just to be different I'm going to switch the order around.

Present -- Kurt Angle, Edge, and JBL. They can get great pops as faces, or the whole crowd going against them as heels. Also they are so good in the ring they can work any kind of match and make it memorable. There ability to cut convincing promos agaonst their next opponent is probably unparalled in any of the major companies today. JBL turned a borderline character into something that has basically carried SmackDown over the past 18 months.

Past -- For in ring work, I would probably say Ricky Steamboat. His WWF feuds with Don Muraco and Randy Savage probably produced some of the most dramatic and brilliant matches of the early-mid 1980's. And his run with Flair in the NWA probably did produce the greates set of telelvised world title matches the NWA ever put on. For the ability to cut a promo, I would probably have to say the Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase. I remember the day they showed the video of him getting the Million Dollar belt made, and back then he was probably the one who could pull off something like that with the character he was working with.

Future -- I would have to say Carlito, Shelton and Samoa Joe. I think all three of these guys have that X factor behind them that could make them all the "one" to lead a major company over the next 5-10 years. All of them are young, athletic and offer something slightly different to the business.

On a side note -- Favourite Manager -- Bobby Heenan, anybody who knows me, knows why I would say that.

Past: Bret Hart. His "best there is..." line says it all.

Present: Uhm... to be honest, I don't keep up with wrestling any more, so I'm going to have to leave this one blank. The last time I watched, they were pushing some Brock Lesnar guy through the roof, and now I'm hearing about some Batista. To me, it sounds like WWE is having a hard time filling the gap that the Rock left.

Past and Present: Two picks. First, Duane Johnson, a.k.a. the Rock. Undeniable talent at such a young age. I still remember the change he made from babyface to one of the most hated men in WWE by joining the Nation of Domination. Hell of a feud with Steve Austin. Then I remember when he became SO KICK ASS, people were cheering for him in spite of the fact that he was playing heel. I just remember seeing this guy jump to the second rope, do that eyebrow thing over his shoulder, and I knew right then, that guy was the new Hart... the new Hogan... the new Diesel...

...well wait, scratch that last one. He was meant for big things, is what I'm saying.

Second, Scott Levy, a.k.a. Raven. A great underground talent in the ring, much like High On Fire or Mastodon are to modern metal. Not mainstream, per se, but carrying a cult following and given due props. Raven's definitely been getting on in the years, but he still goes out there and busts his ass, with or without the skirt.

Goldberg trashed Hart's HEAD, not his knee.. Goldberg's superkick gave Hart one of the nastiest concussiones ever.

My bad. Regardless, that essentially retired him.

Past - Rowdy Roddy Piper. The man could get the reaction he desired in any occasion. He was a master on the mic and brought us some of the greatest moments in WWF/E history. Who that calls themself a wrestling fan does not remember/ enjoy Piper's Pit. I went to a baseball game this year for the first time in over 20 years to get a chance to see Piper, Mean Gene and Bobby Heenan.

Present - Edge. The man has the god given ability to get over no matter which side of the fence he is asked to fight on (except in his hometown Bizarroland). He is good on the mic and after WM this coming year all the waiting will be over and we will finally get to see Edge as World Champion. He is that good in the ring that I will predict that now.

Combo - Kurt Angle. What can't be said about our olympic hero. He is likely the greatest all around talent to step foot in the ring and that hurts me to say because I am a HUGE Shawn Michaels fan but he has that little bit more in the ring then Shawn does but it is very minimal. Both would be exceptional guys (even today) to build a federation around.

Future - I know everyone is going to say that I am not listing a future star but I am going to say Christian. I know he has done almost everything there is to do in the WWE but he hasn't even began to tap his ultimate potential. He is absolutely one of the best mic guys in the game right now and is capable of putting on a good match every time he goes out there. I origianlly saw E&C as very much like the original Hart Foundation where one highly talented guy carried another mediocre partner, but now I see that as being very different and Christian just took longer on his own to develop as a star.

I agree, Edge hasn't been worth a damn SINCE his days as Christian's partner.. something he will always be to me, Christian Cage's partner. Hell, when Adam Copeland was "Sexton Hardcastle" here in Michigan in ICW, he wasn't worth a damn unless he was with the rest of "Thug Life", Christian Cage, Joe E. Legend and Rhino Richards.

~knows Joe E. Legend from somewhere  ~

Even in his brood days when everyone ranted about how promising he was all I saw was this guy who had no charisma whatsoever and essentially just stole the style of Sting and merged it with other superstar's.
Admittedly I thought Christian was worse because - quite frankly - he was, but unlike Edge Christian has developed is character and also become acceptable to watch. Edge on the other hand just comes out and grins, then pulls Lita for a little while before wrestling an uninspiring match.
World Title contender? My arse. More like an example of the WWE trying to fill the charisma void left by the Rock, and failing badly.
