I will also add that Erik Zieba has found tons of old info on the leagues that were for all intents and purposes the predecessors to EPW: BTR, MWC and EWI, which ultimately merged with NthWA to become GXW, which became GWE, which spun off EPW. :)

To start, he's posted the first two shows in our history section subforum under Empire Pro Information/Global Xtreme Wrestling (GXW) History.

NOW...

MATCH OF THE NIGHT: Impulse/Stalker Vs Dangle Brothers

SEGMENT OF THE NIGHT: A new tag team coming in, Cruise working to get himself and Wells a shot, the Codine Jr. reveal, lots of stuff happened tonight.

FACE OF THE NIGHT: Not a good night for team good...I'd say it's a battle between Tact and Codine, only because Codine's not objectively evil yet.

HEEL OF THE NIGHT: Everyone? EPW is a hive of scum and villiainy.

BEST MOMENT: i liked the Codine reveal and the storyline there.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: My bad for being a slacker on writing, if I'd known about the Anarky/Rezin attack on Winters (or remembered it, totally possible I screwed that up.) the show built towards Black Dawn, the big win by the Dangle Brothers sets up two big blowoff matches and we'll have to see how the Stalker/Impulse storyline interweaves itself with that. A bunch of new talent stepped in, all in all I think this was a good shot to be the lead up to Agg 67 and Black Dawn.

MATCH OF THE NIGHT: I'm going to give it to First Vs Winters, with the World title on the line. Maybe I'm influenced by the build with the 24/7-inspired package, and the attack seg on Winters. I thought it was a great in-show build to the match, with an appropriate payoff. Something to aspire to.

SEGMENT OF THE NIGHT: The 24/7 package in FW is fertile ground, dug that.

FACE OF THE NIGHT: Where did the faces go? EPW's a shady place, these days... Impulse had to tag with Stalker, though. That's a somewhat heroic feat, no? :p

HEEL OF THE NIGHT: Anarky/Rezin for pissing all over Winters' World title shot... and stealing his Snickers! That crosses a line you just don't cross...

BEST MOMENT: I liked the Codine stuff; took me by surprise, was compelling, and makes me want to see how things unfold.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: I thought all the matches were solid, credit to the writers. I know it almost certainly wasn't planned this way, but I felt like one attack (Dangle Bros. on Anarky/Rezin) almost instigated the next (Anarky/Rezin on Winters), like the victims of one were taking it out on someone else. It was a good card for segs, all around, actually. A bunch of Codine, but it was all good. The intrigue of the Intercontinental title picture is peaking, definitely looking forward to seeing how that sorts out. Overall, a good continued build to the boil of Black Dawn. I've been a lazyass and really need to write a segment next show, heh. But it seems EPW is bustling with activity on all fronts, making for good TV.

Okay, Brunk... I'll pry myself away from D3 for these few minutes to let you know what I think. Brace yourself, because I might have some fairly critical observations this time around.

KENDALL CODINE RETURN SEGMENT
Good seg, pretty appropriately short and to the point. Maybe the cut from Ryan's office to the locker room could have been spread out over the show, but it's not a biggie. This was a good way to re-introduce Kendall Codine back into the sport, especially for people not familiar with where he's from. That's what made the Stevens conversation that much better... it shows that his face and name have (or had) recognition among the long-time veterans.

INTRO
Okay, here's the first thing that popped out to me...

[CUTTO: The map, this time a tracking line heads towards a dot marked Chicago, when the line hits the dot, AGGRESSION 65 bursts onto the screen in red letters.]

Brunk, did I mention I have an English degree, and am currently seeking employment as an editor?

Okay, just a minor observation... the run-down of matches was good as always. And Stanton, I'm sorry about the time I complained about the new highlight reel intro -- it's actually REALLY awesome. Unfortunately, I had the luck of growing up into a music snob, and I just can't stand Jack White. Didn't mean it as a knock.

BURNS AND FIRST SEGMENTS
This was probably my favorite segment on the show. Why is that? Well number one, it happened in the ring, so that takes care of the awkwardness of having an invisible camera man snooping around on people backstage during periods of drama. Number two, it really resolved a lot of questions I had about The First. Since the Dis mask came off, I had a hard time figuring out who The First was as a character. He'd just been getting built up as a face once again, but then revealing him as Dis pretty much makes you realize that he's been an assh*le too. So the champ gets mixed reactions, and it's hard to see him as a good guy or a bad guy. Burns pretty much took a stand and went face here (which is pretty awesome) and I think The First left no more dispute that he's the heel champ, the guy people WANT to see beaten. I really got the feeling that The First is feeling insecure with all the criticism he's getting, but he's defiantly sticking to a guns and continuing to claim that he is and always has been a desperate man. He's not going to take the high road for what he wants to get.

JONES VS. DARKNESS VS. CODINE
Holy crap, Aaron Jones is from Nap-Town?! Hoosiers represent, yo! The Codine intro was awesome. Seems like a really cool way to bring a character back without having age and deterioration be an obvious weakness. Action was pretty good, with the new Codine dominating with size and strength. Darkness bailing from the match seemed questionable, but maybe it will move on to something else. It was probably expected to see Jones go down in this one, but I still think he has the all the makings of an underdog.

TEDDY ALEXANDER PROMO
Good build-up to the TV Title match, and I like the neck brace as an intimidation device.

TACT VS. ALEXANDER
Quick, easy match... not much can be said about it. Felt like a good, even match between both competitors, and it just came down to one opportune moment for Larry to finish it off and retain his title. I could see a rematch at some point down the line, almost like the Willard/Cruise feud for the title.

CRUISE AND RYAN SEGMENT
Love how Ryan is just trying to pass off Cruise, but Cruise is determined to get his second chance. Setting the conditions of victory for the tag match later gives it some extra hype, too. Thought it was a nice seg.

STEVENS & DRAGONS VS. NARK/REZ/BURNS
Epic as every Stevens entrance is, this one felt a little out-dated. At this point, he should be coming out to booming pops and huge fireworks... an entrance fit for a king being welcomed by his loyal subjects, or somesuch. But ah, anyway... into the match. Action went by pretty quickly, with the drama of keeping Stevens out til near the end being used very effectively. Got confused at one point -- how did Karl and Otaku end up getting hand-cuffed? Who did the cuffing, and where did they keep it? There were points like that and a few others where some added details probably could have been added, but overall, it was a pretty good, and easy read, and it was good to see Stevens standing strong at the end even though he didn't manage to get the win.

JIMMY MYLDE SEGMENT
While I thought it was a little overboard, I thought this was a good segment. Hypes up a coming tag team, and had some pretty funny jabs at the tag team champions. Can't wait to see what this brings

DANGLE BROS. ATTACK
An appropriate retaliation from what went down at Aggression 55... but something was missing here. The Dangle Bros. are regular motor mouths. I would at least think after laying a royal beatdown on two guys they see as below them, they would gloat about it in some sense. Cruise and Wells without trash talk is like Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo without a pint of ether.

DANGLE BROS. VS. IMPULSE/STALKER
I thought this was the best match of the night, which was to be expected given the promo war. The action was good, and the commentary was really spot on. The length was good given the animosity among these guys and the promo battle. Finish was done pretty well for not being clean. Impulse keeps his heat, Dangles get a very hard-fought win.

HYPE PACKAGE
Good build up to the main event, recapping the history between these characters. This was sorely needed for anybody who might have missed the drama between these two from a couple years back.

NARK/REZ ATTACK
Sent this in to keep Rezin and Anarky putting pressure on The First's opponents. The point was to weaken Layne before his fight with The First, giving the champ the advantage. Why help out the guy they hate? Answers are soon to come...

(once I sober up and figure it out myself)

THE FIRST VS. LAYNE WINTERS
I still say title matches should have the "formal" introductions (announcements being made with both guys standing in the ring, belt held up by the ref, etc.), but hey, to each his own style. Match had some pretty dynamic action -- I'm a definite fan of Caps, provided it doesn't go over the top, but this had a nice balance. Screaming commentators is always hilarious to listen to. Winters blocking the Mist was a cool spot. The finish was also a nice subtle call back to Rezin and Anarky working on Layne's arm before the match. I also liked The First's tantrum in the middle of the ring to close the show.

OVERALL THOUGHTS
Not so many segs, but not so bad. Solid show, with very good writing. Not many OMFG stand-out moments, but that's just fine with a build-up show. Winners got some good rubs, and all the participants made pretty good statements.

My overall criticism isn't how this show is written. It's how it was set-up. A few of the matches didn't jive with me on all levels. Not a knock on Teddy Alexander, who is a great character that shows a lot of potential, but a newcomer shouldn't get a title shot in his first match. The six man tag match seemed like retread of the last show's tag match, with Sean Stevens and Eddie Burns kinda thrown in because they had nothing better to do that night. Then there was the main event. For as long as I've been waiting for an epic Winters vs. First match for the EPW World Heavyweight Title, this wasn't the show it should have been on. There was no build behind this match... and Winters hasn't really been active on recent shows. I was even aware a challenge was made. It didn't really seem like he had done anything to earn a title shot, and while the rivalry was there, it didn't really have anything to do with the current angles and the build toward the PPV. It's too bad this match couldn't have happened during better circumstances, cause it could have been a hallmark point in a long rivalry. On this show, it just seemed like a one-off... and I almost felt like the previous tag match between the Dangle Bros. and Stalker and Impulse would have been a more appropriate main event. There's about three active angles all building toward the PPV right there.

That being said, having to work with what we had, I still think everybody managed to produce a pretty good show. I didn't really have a hand in working on it, so I kinda feel bad saying stuff like this, but I'm going to try and get committed more on getting the cards together from here on out -- hopefully in a way that doesn't delay things two weeks at a time.

Okay, gave my thoughts and pissed everybody off. I got skeletons to kill.

MISSING IN ACTION
Adrian Willard... one of the few heros EPW had left. Somebody bring this guy back.

Rich Mahogany... was right there on the level of top star for a minute, then just disappeared. I'm like Neels... I miss Rich.

So I take it you liked Magnus vs. Impulse in NLW? :)

Great feedback, Straw. I'll leave feedback of my own after the weekend. Thanks for the props on Mylde and Winters. I'll be honest, I would love to do a REAL comeback with Winters and build him up again, but I have zero motivation to write that character at the moment. For now, I'm gonna RP my tag team, keep Winters on the shelf for a while, and maybe revisit him down the line.

I read the card and it was great. I don't know the overall roster well enough to really make a fair assessment segment to segment. Give me some time to learn the pre-existing storylines, grudges, faces/heels, etc.

I'm happy the Codine segments went over well. Big thanks to Dave and Jamar for helping me out. Straws hit the nail on the head, as I wanted to make the re-introduction of Codine short and sweet (stealing some big star pop from Dan Ryan and Sean Stevens to get him over). When I had last written with this character, I had introduced his son and I figured this would be the perfect venue to get him started. Once the Ultratitle tournament is over, Kendall Codine Sr. will hang them up, as I've run my course with him over the years. Introducing his son will allow me to build upon the legacy and go in a different direction (which will be new to me, as I've always used the same route with Codine over 10+ years).

Overall, good stuff and I look forward to working with all of you.

I'll add feedback as it strikes me and if I go offline before I finish I'll add another post. You get star ratings, btw.

** - I liked the prologue segment with Codine and Ryan and Triple X and the whole passing the torch thing intrigued me for a returning wrestler leaving me thinking something more was in store.
****1/2 - I really enjyoed the First/Burns segment. I could see the action unfold in my head and it was really well done. I particularly loved the no sell of the hit followed by the mist. I'm a bit of a mist fan and that was cool. Well played, sir!
*** - I enjoyed the pre-match segment and retirement of Codine, especially the hint that came from the prologue. The match was solid and a good debut for the son of Codine.
N/A - since I handle Teddy I'm not giving it any stars but I enjoyed the segment even if I wrote it myself. Looking forward to hopefully having a good program to work with in the near future.
**1/2 - Match was pretty solid. It didn't really show much of Teddy's style (which I would have liked to have seen as he came off kinda quick for his size) but was still nicely done. Well done on the victory, Jeff.
*1/2 - This segment didn't really do much for me but I'm not really all that around the storylines going on here. I'm a fan of never assuming someone has read anything you've ever written before so show me and this segment didn't do any of that.
*** - The match had some really good pace and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Jimmy Mylde at the end was brilliantly entertaining and I can't wait to see the debut of the Dreamstealers.
* - Wait... What?
***1/2 - Good pace to the match and the outcome played nicely to setting up those matches at Black Dawn set-up earlier by the segment. I'm interested in seeing how this comes to light and how Stalker getting blasted with the belt comes out of future storylines and if it will effect the title shots Wells & Cruise now have owing to them.

I was in charge of writing that one and sorry for the misrepresentation of Teddy. The thing is, I couldn't find his profile for the life of me.

Teddy's profile isn't on the roster yet since that was his first match. I do have profiles on hand for anyone who needs them. Typically, I wait until a new character has had a match or two before placing them in the roster forum.

I'm a fan of never assuming someone has read anything you've ever written before so show me and this segment didn't do any of that.

Pretty good observation... and one that I, personally, never really considered much. But I can see what you're saying. Newcomers want to know backstory so they can understand why certain things are happening. For example, Cruise and Wells attacking Rezin and Anarky. To anybody who didn't read Aggression 55, that would just seem really random.

When I write future segments, I'm going to try out some different techniques to keep the audience filled in on previous events.

Did not catch that either... definitely resolves that. No idea why I didn't catch it.

All good - I could have linked you to the NFW bio for Teddy, too. So it's my bad but like I said... it was still a good match and that's me being pedantic. I appreciate you writing it!

I often find dropping simple lines like "When Bob hit me with that chair at Aggression 60 and spat in my face..." or "Two weeks ago Bob attacked me and cost me my chance to be the champion..." etc. Simple lines can patch people into what's going on. Gets people in the loop straight away and takes out the assumption.

It could help people wanna be a part of your stuff more. Replays work really well as well. :)

So I finally got around to reading the entire card and I wanted to give some feedback because I've been a big jerk lately who hasn't been leaving any and between that and not writing cards, I'm mostly just a useless sack of violence. Which is fun, but yeah.

So here's some feedback.

MATCH OF THE NIGHT: Probably the tag team between Wells/Cruise and Stalker/Impulse. I enjoy a good oddball pairing, and the pace of the match went well.

SEGMENT OF THE NIGHT: I enjoyed Jimmy Mylde's intro of the Dreamstealers... ? Anytime you can work tentacle porn into a segment, you know you... have done something memorable, for better or worse, heh. The 24/7 segment was good, though I wish it was for a bigger match that SOMEONE had actually RPed for. *glare*

FACE OF THE NIGHT: Not a ton of choices here. Is Larry Tact a face? I guess I'd say Karl Brown. He might not have been victorious, but he took a total thrashing from his dishonorable opponents and kept fighting back, which is nice. Stevens also cleaned house in the ring

HEEL OF THE NIGHT: Jared Wells? Cheatin' bastard. First was always downright vicious. I guess pretty much the entire EPW roster at this point.

BEST MOMENT: Stevens tearing up the ring in the six man? Cameron Cruise succeeding at something? Codine introducing his kid? I thought there was no one totally outstanding moment, but overall a lot of very good ones that worked.

LINE OF THE NIGHT: "Look, I told you…. I couldn’t find a Funk U shirt anywhere, alright? Even I have my limits.”

OVERALL THOUGHTS: I enjoyed the show. It wasn't the single greatest EPW show we've ever had, but it moved along the storylines in a reasonable way. Probably difficult to follow if you haven't been paying attention, but that's kind of how it goes towards the end of a PPV cycle. I think it definitely built towards Agg 67 and I look forward to the next card.
