Re: ASCENSION ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #60 IS NOW LIVE!

First match on the first DEF card was Jimmy Kort vs. some guy named Skull or something, dude flaked and Justin slotted in Box. Kort won with a low blow I think. I remember because my SECOND match was against Greer and I out RPed him and whooped his ass... :D

Lost it at twinkle cave.

Killer card guys. Feedbacks tomorrow.

Re: ASCENSION ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #60 IS NOW LIVE!

GO-GO GADGET BEEFDAX.

--Our rundowns are always great and they make me laugh just about every time.

--RIP Troy Matthews, I hardly knew ye. Couldn't ask for a better way to put over Omega right here. Holy shit, he's gonna be a force to be reckoned with. Normally, all for starting the PPVs with a spirited match, but a one-sided ass-whomping that worked. Good stuff.

--Good hype piece by Lance Warner and great filler here. I am SO looking forward to the collection of new talent we've got on board now, it's going to be insane... and insanely awesome, too.

--Natas/Booya was what it needed to be. Short, sweet, hard-hitting. I like Natas' story of fighting back to where he once was and Booya going over here was the right move.

--I'm fully convinced Brunk could write Dan Ryan reading the phone book and make it compelling. Where others really want to be complex, I LOVE Ryan's no-bullshit, no-nonsense drive in the build to this match.

--Horry/Donovan had a fun big-fight feel to it and definitely felt worthy of a blow-off. The only thing that really took me out of it was the bit with Horry getting on the mic to explain things when the Adrenaline 1:1000 was being used on Donovan... let the commentators do that for ya. Small gripe aside, Blue and Sam knocked this out of the fucking park. Horry gets his bloody revenge, but Donovan has really come out of this feud looking much better than I've ever seen him and I look forward to where these two go next.

--Hope y'all liked the Unlikely debut segment. We've got some ideas cooking and hope you all will like what we do.

First off:

Angus:
Ah… The now infamous Hillary Clinton voodoo doll. Chance warned me to never pull the string on that doll.

DDK:
Why?

Angus:
He said after you pulled its string, it takes your guns away.

Holy shit, this was funny, haha.

--TO THE MATCH! Keyes/cVc was another fairly short, but sweet match that I enjoyed. Hard-hitting, just as it should be between these two. cVc being a horribly and politically racist dickhead is amazing and Henry Keyes has worked as a great foil. I know what's next for cVc and no doubt it will rule the universe, but I really wouldn't mind seeing more of cVc/Keyes in the future, either.

--Did we just see a set-up for something crazy with Omega and Walker and/or Horry? Sign me the fuck up.

--Won't comment on my own match other than I hope I did FDJ justice, Justin. Been wanting to do this match since I came back with Team HOSS.

--I won't speak for myself, but I enjoyed the Harmony seg, Walker's hype for the SoHer title, and finally Penn's AMAZING promo and entrance with Booya on his shoulders, hahahaha. Tracey, you did amazing with this match and I have no bad thing to say about it. This was definitely a stunt show in the best way possible, everybody got equal chance to shine and I marked hard for the Penn/Harmony fight at the end after Walker and Sharp had their lives ended. Congrats, Tracey, you've definitely earned it!

--The build between all four participants in the FIST Title match was damn well done with who can and can't trust who coming from all sides. At first, I wasn't sure we needed Box/Troy since - you know, PPV time, but they had me hooked by the end. I hope we get a one-on-one match with Troy and Box here soon enough where they will be free to commit murder (or as close to that as we can get in the confines of pretend wrestling, anyway)

--As great as some of the matches have been tonight (and they've ALL been really damn good), James killed Alecz/Dusty, brought it back to life, then killed it again. This one also had a big fight feel to it, that - when we first discussed it - didn't seem like it would be. These two got crazy physical in a NEVER title match kind of way and the story with Alecz trying to outdo Dusty and prove he could do anything better was really fun.

-DA BAWS IS BACK!! I actually LOVED that he said so little. Great surprise on the show and a perfect way to segue between one match to the last.

--Right off the bat, I loved how the FIST ladder match was much more of a physical and personal slugfest between these guys instead of the stunt show from the SOHER Title match. There were definitely some killer spots in this one, though, and it was very much worthy of a great main event with all of them. Also...

DON'T BOO YOU MOTHERFUCKERS, IT'S EVERY MAN AND WOMAN FOR THEMSELVES!!!

I'll go so far as to say this is the best show I think we've put out in some time. Everything I took away from this show read from good to MARKOUTHOLYSHIT. And with a bunch of new faces and new guys coming down the pipeline, this is going to be fucking amazing. Everybody that did anything for this show, should be proud of the collective effort we put in.

Re: ASCENSION ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #60 IS NOW LIVE!

WELCOME TO THE SHOW
Me. Also, hope everyone liked the banners for the show. It's been overdue for us to start adding a little extra flair to our events, I'll be working on more of these over time.

OMEGA vs TROY MATTHEWS
Simply brutal. There's really not a lot to say, this is a one sided dissection of a character and it does exactly what it's meant to do, which is highlight Omega as the monster that he is. Big Thanks go out to Rob for letting this transpire, hopefully this also effectively does what you needed to be able to put the character away going forward. Good work, the both of you.

LANCE WARNER: HYPE MAN
All thanks go to mom for filling in with a last minute spot here. Welcome to the madhouse, Bobby, Jason, and Murrr fulltime!

JASON NATAS vs JONNY BOOYA
Perfect way to start this. Natas is aggro as fuck now and he'll figure out the rest as he goes, win or lose... Like how you bring up Natas' stamina and how the relentless pace he's using has worked against him, but also how in a pure fight scenario, this might be deep in the heart of his wheelhouse... See, Booya is dumb, but even he learns, pointing out Jonny not wanting to engage Natas in a strike exchange is good... Good play with some of this Angus dialogue too, he's fun to use... Loved the back and forth from the midway point on and the refusal to stay down by Natas until Booya finally scores a kill shot. Well done, Andy.

WHAT YOU GET IS WHAT YOU TAKE
This is just Brunk doing what he does, being one of the best pure promos in efeds. The style is also perfectly acceptable as there's no need for tons of extraneous sceneplay (if that makes sense). Love the message with Dan Ryan putting over what is DEFIANCE is all about, how he's earned his place and built a legacy here. LOVE IT... and DAT MEAN GIRLS REFERENCE! All of the points to BRUNK! If I could promo like Brunk does, I would go to rp feds and crush it for the lulz.

SAM HORRY vs JAKE DONOVAN
Derp, coulda sworn I centered the music lines on this, my bad... Putting over leveled up angry Sam in the commentary to explain the Muay Thai war dance, dig it... Love call backs to injuries from previous matches (Sam's face burn)... The vibe of this is a nice blend of real fighting and pro wrestling, really dig it... Love that you wrote Sam take Jake's speed away with a punishing leg hold that leaves him all but helpless against Sam's superior striking skill... NITPICK: Why not have DEFIANCE's actual in house doc, Iris Davine?... I cleaned that up and changed it... I agree with Seth, prolly coulda had Keebs explain this, I might have left it out and just had Jake be a tough bastard who would rather bleed out than give up against Horry, but no big deal, and now I've learned something about coagulants, hah... BUT, Sam pulling this deal out does show how ruthless he can be when he's in revenge mode, makes him a bit of a wildcard than a true heel or true face... This Angus commentary about turning Sam over every 10 minutes, hah... Saw the video that was an example of the finish Sam had in mind, it's fucking brutal... The one little stretch in the mid-to-late aside, this was just a straight up fight that highlights Sam's style perfectly, made Jake look tough as hell... Kind of a missed opportunity IMO with the post match, should have had Jake talk some shit to provoke Sam into coming down, but that's more of my nitpickiness than anything... Sam going forward could go in a multitude of directions off this, Jake's got something set up as well, just need to see you both step up off this two arc set you had.

ROLLING OUT THE RED CARPET
Dig the history lesson and how it relates to ladder matches, gold star... PAY PER WHO?! HAHAHAHA! That's gotta go in the signage for the next DEFtv... And I lulz'd at Sharp taking the deep breath to get all of his final thoughts in at the last minute... These two are going to kill it for the next two arcs. Fucking awesome to have Mikey on board and working my broseph, Sethrow!

CHANCE VON CRANK vs HENRY KEYES
Short fights are good stuff, just a bowling shoe ugly fight with the heel getting the cheap as fuck win with help from the outside after getting the old school heel would be pinned three or four times if not for the heel shenanigans. Good work, Dan. Not a bad way to cap the first half of the show, IMO.

A DARK CLOUD LOOMS
Me with Ed's advice on how to write Omega's actions here, big thanks to you, sir.

ANGEL TRINIDAD vs FRANK DYLAN JAMES
I love how Angus marks out for HOSS, I know you showed me the Land, Sea and Air quote as you were writing it, but the full context when you're actually reading the final product is so much better, haha... HAH, that Angus crack about Keebs mom, that was hilariously unexpected, good stuff... BAD FUCKING ASS MATCH, SETHROW! Didn't have much to comment on because you done did jacked this sumbitch outta the park. FDJ looks like an absolute savage that needs to be killed just to lose, Angel shows his amazing evolution from when he first appeared in DEFIANCE. Angel is basically our Brock Lesnar and I love that. Absolutely outstanding work.

BRINGING RESPECT BACK
Good solid promo before the LADDER SPOTFU FEST OF DOOM!

LADDER WAR for the SOUTHERN HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP
THIS FUCKING PROMO IS WHY CURTIS PENN IS AWESOME (that's all I got to say about that)... HAH, YES! Good play on the some commentary where Angus is conflicted when Ty and Harm are mixing it up... Tracey, alls I got to say is, you've earned your place in DEFIANCE as a champion with this match... and you thought you were gonna freak when I said you might wanna shoot for a minimum of 15 pages haha, handled it with flying colors IMO. Really good spotfest, which is exactly what it needed to be, and (even though I'm not there yet) I'm sure it will differentiate itself from the main event quite nicely due to the vastly different set of characters and styled used in both matches.

DRAWING SOME BLOOD
Once again, Lindz and Evan just killing it in a promo situation. I've said it time and again, there is a reason why Lindz, Brunk, Dames, and Evan have DOMINATED the top of the card for all of this first season, it's because of this and many other examples of this. If you want to know how to be a top handler in DEFIANCE, you can't go wrong by talking to either of these four, and any one of them would be glad to dispense advice, which again, is why they are among our very best.

DUSTY GRIFFITH vs ALECZANDER the GREAT
Me. I had some serious fun writing this and appreciate the kind words from Seth and his trust to lemme to run with what I wanted to roll with. I think this and the Boxer match is basically what I want to do with Dusty from here on out, just full steam ahead strong style brawls rather than the classic All Japan 90s 40+ minute head drop dramafests that I did with Kai Scott, Eric Dane, and even Eugene Dewey. Those are fun to write too, but they take a lot more planning and a lot more writing due to how I like to get really detailed with selling and everything.

AND THEN SOMETHING ELSE HAPPENED...
Kept it short and sweet, it's Eric Dane coming back to the house that he built, nothing more needs to be said honestly.

LADDER WAR for the FIST of DEFIANCE
OKAY DOKAY, time to read the swan song... YAS with this recapping commentary, good detail... DAT EUGE/BOXER SHOWDOWN!... HAH, should have called the spot with Box spinning the ladder around a HELIBOXER, Dames!... OH GOD, that spot where Box falls outta the ring on to a ladder bridge... Then that spot where Lindz looks at Ryan, and Ryan looks at Lindz, and both paralyzed by indecision, good, good stuff... TWINKLE CAVE!... BOX NEVER SAYS DIE!... ZOMG LINDZ GOING CRAAAAAAAAZY ON BOXERS FACE! (more on this in an rp Evan and I will finish soon!)... DAT FINISH SEQUENCE!... Fucking AWESOME match, that's all I'll I got.

LAST WORDS AND SUCH:

MVP: I'm giving this one to Dames (Euge for our new handlers) for nearly two years of excellence, being one of our very best examples of what it is to be a top handler in DEFIANCE. I know you really wanted the full two years, wish I could have engineered it for ya, but time just wasn't on our side to get you the extra thirty or so days you needed.

FACE: Gonna go Harmony finally winning the SOHER / ending Penn's dastardly bastard reign as champion.

HEEL: Gonna say Omega with that SAVAGE destruction and constant refusal to finish Matthews quicker.

MATCH: No question, it's the main event, it was the final chapter to Dewey's near two year reign as the King of DEFIANCE.

SPOT: That stretch where Lindz is going full maniac on Boxer's face.

SEGMENT: Too close to call IMO. The Dan Ryan promo was great, the Boxer promo too, Penn talking shit before the SOHER. All of that was various degrees of awesome and can't rightly choose one over the others.

FINAL THOUGHTS: This show was bad ass from top to bottom. Everything had it's place and nobody looks bad who wasn't meant to (RIP #KICKPADS). We've got two more arcs to wrap up the majority of what was setup this season and blow it all off with DEFCON in the early summer (most likely). Excellent effort everybody, thanks for being part of it.

HOLY SHIT MY MATH SKILLS SUCK.

Just talking to (blowing?) Dames on FB and he corrected me, 730 days is TWO YEARS on the money. Holy shit, I was thinking 30 more days than was necessary. Fucking boss regardless whether it was short or exact. Outstanding.

Re: ASCENSION ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #60 IS NOW LIVE!

In Five: Okay guys, the first sign is sad. Just gonna say that.

Omega vs. Troy Matthews: I’m not at all that familiar with Omega’s work but I am obviously familiar with Mr. Troy Matthew. I noticed that neither guy had their heights announced. Is that how we do things here? Asking cause I don’t know, not because I’m a passive aggressive doucher.
I liked the use of Angus to sell the narrative, particularly noting at every turn how over matched Troy Matthews was. These little nuances are what angle feds great to me. Not a big fan of the Trendsetter “no sell” but understand the point - to get Omega over as a megabeast, so I’m not that hyper critical of it. Just wanted to mention it. Breaking your own pins is about as heel as it gets and throughout the match they served their purpose. I didn’t really understand Omega’s spoken lines throughout but this is the FIRST Defiance show I’m reading in quite a while. Good stuff here, especially to open the show.

Lance Warner: Hype Man: The elephant in the room sort of. Enjoyed this segment a lot. Part of the reason that I’ve always loved Defiance regardless of which J was at the helm - Justin, Jeff, James; was that it FELT REAL. This feels reel. Puts over everyone mentioned, even my little shit brick, even Bobby Dean and everyone is happy. Good segment. Doing feedback high, means more of it bitches.

Jason Natas vs. Jonny Booya: So I understand the announcers have bold personalities and the DEF Faithful are territorial and “in the know” but Angus and Keeb did NOTHING to get me excited for this one. I assume heights aren’t announced upon reading the second match, can I ask why? The answer really isn’t important, I’m just really interested. “In a storm of perfect violence” in the very opening of the match caught my eye. That’s a line right there. Hats off. Noticed some grammar/spelling mistakes in this one, not trying to be anal - Lord knows I make them all the damn time. Just saying they’re there. Would’ve liked a trademarked Defiance soundeffect when Booya hit the steps, but that’s the SMARK in me talking. Good false finishes at the end. Liked the fight Natas put up but not enough in the end. Good match.

What You Get Is What You Take: I’m sorry but did Dan Ryan just casually drop a Mean Girls reference like it is no thing? LOLZ. Aside from that thought this was good to hype the Main Event, had sort of a finality to it if I may.

Same Horry vs. Jeff Hardy? - Jake Donovan: Sorry, I don’t know if we’re allowed to make jokes or not like this? Ignore me if it angers you, I was just trying to be funny. Lots of fire/explosion references in the first few lines of dialogue. Funny/smart. Liked it. Sam Horry has quite the entrance, looking forward to learning more about this dude as I progress. The commentary in this match is awesome. Great job of selling how these two got to this spot. Match was a brutal strike fest, and poetry in motion all at the same time. Liked the tease at the end leading to an ending that can be indeed revisited if need be.

Rolling Out the Red Carpet: Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. I love all things Mikey Unlikely. This had a touch of that outlandish Hollywood Bruvs style but wasn’t too over the top. Love that Mikey doesn’t even know Lance Warner’s name. And the red carpet, perfect. Poor Andy Sharp!

cVc vs. Keyes: Okay so DEF likes a bit of blood on their PPVs, I’m down with that. Good match that showcased the heel tactics of cVc to a t, I thought. Right down to the censored parts. Enjoyed this one.

Angel Trinidad vs. FDJ: I remember FDJ working for Edward White, points for me! Yay! Things I remember. I probably smoked away most of my Defiance knowledge. Not sorry at all. So I noticed there was a spot for a ref’s name to be dropped in and it wasn’t. Chucking that up to a backstage/match writer’s gloss over, which happens to all of us. Some clunky in match transitions. I don’t wanna come off like I’m shitting on whomever wrote it. So please don’t take any of this that way. I liked the story of Evans loosening the rules to let these two fight it out. Thought that was a good idea and worked well. Liked Count. Faster. as well. I’m doing this feedback “live” as I read the show over the span of the entire week, so something to note there. This match had some amazing moments towards the back end. Loved FDJ surging back, loved the submission, then the suicide dive for Angel. All OMG, jaw on the floor type feel moments. One thing I missed was how REAL DEF feels at sometimes. Can we get the HOSS to fight on water at some point? Just so he can rule the sea as well? What an ending. Is FDJ dead? This guy was supposed to be in All or Nothing this weekend!

Bringing Respect Back: I smell a face promo! For a promo titled respect I feel that Harmony gives Christie Zane none. She’s got her Ladder War match up next and has no respect for Curtis Penn.

Ladder War for MY TITLE: Former SoHer Champion here, can’t wait to read this one. Don’t know if this happened but it would’ve been a clutch segment where Penn actually has to surrender his title so they can suspend it from the ceiling. Just a thought that came to me. It’s ANNNNNDY Sharp - which true story I assumed was handled by Murr because his first name was Andy. Hello Defiance, I am Jason. I’ve missed Ty Walker. Love “Just a Girl” as an entrance theme. Feels like it really works. And this entrance I think sells Harmony hard, specifically the “taking a moment to take it all in line,” it may feel small but it sells the character’s mindset which is critically important to me, especially in an angle fed. So Penn is wearing the championship that is hanging above the ring to start the match. Continuity error FTW. Stuff like this can really take people out of what you’re trying to do. Again don’t mean to be a dick, just wanna make that clear. Some of the language was a bit repetitive in this match. “uses the distraction to drive Walker into the turnbuckle using the end of the ladder, driving it into his ribs…” Drive/driving, doesn’t read as well as it could. But listen, this is a Ladder War. I didn’t come for the grammar believe me. Match opens with amazing sequences. Felt like the announcers or a fan chant would’ve been good after the hurricarana spot. The Ty/Sharp ladder spot was amazing. The front row is dead. Jesus. This one was a great read. Solid win for Harmony in the end as Penn’s reign is over. Can’t imagine what fallout might come of this!
Drawing Some Blood: Basically Evan is amazing and Box is perfect. That’s all I really need to say. I got tired of writing it every other week in UTA but here I’ll never tire of it. Because Box takes me back to when this place first opened and no one knew if it would last or not. Nostalgia drenched panties here. Love Troy jumping all over this. Good stuff. This should be fun. I really don’t know SHIT about Lindsay Troy or Lindz, both things I cannot wait to change. Wasn’t a fan of the escalation to a physical confrontation here, especially with a match later on tonight. Just my two cents though, still think it worked well.

Alec vs. Dusty Griffith: So I thought DUSTY handled DUSTY for the longest time, yeah. Let that one sink in guys. Liked that Alec jumps all over Dusty to open. Liked the Faithful letting Alec have it. Teased Powerbomb deserves a shout here. Wow this one was pretty awesome. I don’t have much feedback because I was really entranced there towards the end. Huge move after huge move. Right now this might be my match of the night.

And Then Something Else: Daddy’s Home! Love it. Simple and effective.

Ladder War/Fist Edition: Alright here we go. Wow, tons of action in this one. It was almost hard to keep up with. Plus I just wanted to keep reading to get to the finish and oh what a finish it was. There is so much to build off of here. So many questions to answer - so many possible little storylines to branch off. Things are awesome in DEFIANCE. What a main event.

Re: ASCENSION ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #60 IS NOW LIVE!

The Rundown: I’ve come to really enjoy these segments. Most feds use a very brief and very copy and pasted intro to each show. DEFIANCE intros stand out to me! The signs are killer, and the personality of Angus and DDK stand out in these every week. MOAR good stuff!

OMEGA vs Matthews: I enjoyed this squashy special. Good debut for the up and coming OMEGA here. One thing I’m not a fan of is No Selling a finisher. IDC if the man is 100 lbs or 300 lbs. a FINISHING move… should slow you down. Im not saying that he shouldn't have hit it, or that Omega shouldn't have bounced back quickly… but to go from… “SPECIAL KICK” to “He’s unphased” kinda makes me think Matthews couldn't beat the referee with that move, let alone a monster, which kind of kills the “impressiveness” of it. Just one mans opinion. Otherwise the entire slaughter of Matthews was appropriate. Omega gets over, this was a good call.

Lance Warner: Hype Man: Great short seg to announce what would be two huge signings from a former “national” company. Murray is huge news from a serious standpoint. and Bobby Dean is huge from an entertainment standpoint. Well written.

Natas vs Booya: The groundwork for this match was all done in the commentary before the bell rang. GREAT commentary work. Hyped me up quickly. Shout out to the Burger Boyz reference (intended or not). Natas has a great start to this one. Crazy good match without too many lulls. I enjoyed the fiery comeback by Natas towards the end, but his recieving of punishment might get him over more than the dishing. Right now Natas is a fat spike dudley in my eyes (not by looks, just in the “always get back up” mentality. Great ending, Brutal match, Booya with the Dub.

What You Get Is What You Take
For a segment with one line of description, this was absolutely fire. Great segment here from Dan Ryan. Hype seg for the main event. Felt very authentic.

Donovan vs Horry: Fun match to read. I've been into the feud since joining the fed, and think its very interesting. Feel myself actually pulling for Horry, which just means Donovan is doing his job as heel.Great line...

Angus:
Aw come on, like you didn’t bring marshmallows.

This match dragged in the middle a bit, for the most part however it was very exciting for me. Constantly wondering if and when Donovan will be shooting fire... Finally Horry bursts from the corner and takes down Jake and pummels him to a bloody pulp before the referee stops the match. I enjoyed this a lot, not a fan of the wrestler hopping on the mic and talking about a cut, that should be a commentator's job to sell it. Otherwise this finish is perfect for the feud, brutal bloody war.

Rolling out the Red Carpet: I hope you enjoyed!

CVC vs Keyes
Good match here, high quality and not too far out of line for a wrestling match. Expected much more weaponry with CVC but this came out terrific. He and his manager have just the right amount of legitimacy and heel tactics to both have an excellent match and win with some fuckery. Loved it through and through. 3 matches in a row with blood. Hard to know what everyone else is doing but I expect ill see a lot of it in defiance? CVC picks up a dirty win, I imagine this isnt over.

A Dark Cloud Looms: Cool segment with Sam Horry, Ty Walker and Omega. Very precarious indeed. Liked the report with Horry and Ty as well.

Trinidad vs FDJ: Holy Shit, what a match. Trinidad rocks FDJ all day and James kicks out of errrrrrrthing. Loved it. Felt like a big ol...well…. hosssssssfite. (I could get used to that term). Trinidad looks fucking impressive after this, and to me, more intimidating that anyone else so far. Banger of a match guys.

Bringing Respect Back: Nice quick PMS (Pre Match Seg) here with Harmony. Been enjoying this character for my brief stay. Seems like a very positive face. Very different from everyone just wanting to be a hardass. Stands out in my mind, and if someone stands out they must be doing something right, no? That said this was awesome. I didn't expect her to call Penn a “little bitch”, didn't feel natural, otherwise this was stellar.

SOHER LADDER WAAAAAAAAAAAAR:

Enjoyed the Penn promo in the beginning here. Was a fun set up. Makes me feel like its a last harrah tho. ERMERGERD…. I just read this in one long read. UHMAYZING. everyone is dead! I dont know who to cheer for!? ANYONE BUT PENN!!!! ;)

Great match guys. This was fantastic all the way through, so many big spots, so many false finishes. How is Ty still alive? Harmony picks up a HUGE win and the SOHER title. I am very invested in each character in this match. Wanted them all to pick a W. Terrific all the around.

Drawing Some Blood: Bronson box and Jane Katze have a few things to say, they are quickly inturrupted by Lindsay Troy, who ends up taking the whole kit and kaboodle out with a dive. Nice segment, hype for the ME.

Griffith vs Aleczander.
I have a gripe about this match… I will go into more detail on Bleedz at the end, but you made it a point in the beginning of this match to have one of the competitors to get busted open very early…. then for the next 90% of the match, it's not even mentioned…. Why did you do it then? I'll save the rest of this for the end…. OTHERWISE, this match was great, a war between two heavy hitters, the very obvious face/heel roles were defined early and successfully. Good stuff, with a tease of maybe an Aleczander face moment at the end before he walks off. I enjoyed this, and believed in the nearfalls.

And Then Something Else Happened: ERIC DANE IS BACK! Great quick promo, obvs the name is is HUGE here and this seg makes perfect sense. Looking forward to seeing more from Juice-TIN.

Main Event: Enjoyed the opening to this match very much, I liked that it took some time to get the ladders involved which should usually be the case. You want to start with a wrestling match, then escalate from there, this felt good. The two on one on one was a great touch as well. Enjoyed the underhook DDT from the ladder spot by Troy. Awesome finish, had me super hyped. All the finishers towards the end was awesome. Box with the faux spike spot. Only for Troy to use it against him. Awesome. Great finish with Dan Ryan claiming his stake to the FIST of DEFIANCE Great show errrrrbody.

Blood Note: Every single match on this show had someone bleed. Literally. By that point… and by the end of the night… Someone getting busted open was not only expected, but it added nothing to the match. I know this is a PPV, but in wrestling, Bleeding is supposed to be a big deal… in DEF it sounds like a prereq? I get that you want to be “bad ass” and you want your guy to “take a beating” and everyone loves a crimson mask…. but its not necessary. You guys are desensitizing every single reader to it, to where there would be no reaction whatsoever when it happens. Just my two sense… find other ways to hurt someone withOUT blood, and make it meaningful.

Re: ASCENSION ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #60 IS NOW LIVE!

While I do agree to a point about the blood being in every match, I will say two things to defend it:

1. Every match had some serious bad blood.
2. We're kind of based off of the old Memphis/Mid-South/Florida/Continental territories, all of which were notorious for copious amounts of the red stuff.

But, I can see what you mean, too.

Re: ASCENSION ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #60 IS NOW LIVE!

Introduction
I love a high-quality show introduction. Fans signs were pretty funny. The actual rundown was a cut above what I’m used to, and highlighted everything very well. I imagine this would’ve been an invaluable little primer for the uninitiated, and for a reader who’s been keeping-up with the stories, it’s a nice refresher.

Omega vs. Troy Matthews
Really great use of the announcers to tell the match’s story here, with Angus pushing Troy’s hopelessness and DDK keeping the hope alive. Not a big fan of the finisher no-sell: it sells the monster, sure, but it’s pretty damaging to Matthews, and I think an authoritative kick-out at two would’ve accomplished the good while taking away the bad. Everything else was good, though. Really puts Omega over as DEF’s alpha-beast, particularly when he’s almost beating Troy to the point of disqualification, and the hopelessness of Troy’s plight was put across very effectively. I’m afraid of this crazy wrestleman.

Lance Warner: Hype Man
Great way to strike while the iron is hot and announce a couple new signings immediately. Short little ditty that did everything it needed to. Doesn’t need much more than that.

Jason Natas vs. Jonny Booya
I did this.

What You Get Is What You Take
Fire. Great promo. I love a short, snappy on-card promo to build some last minute hype for a match, and this succeeded in getting me even more excited for the main event. What I like most about it is that instead of explaining why his opponents aren’t going to win, he’s telling us why he IS going to win. That’s next-level confidence.

Jake Donovan vs. Sam Horry
Great tone-setting intro. I absolutely *love* wrestlers who “level-up” with some special attire/different music/whatever else when shit’s about to get real, so props for that. Jake Donovan bloody loves fire, doesn’t he? Jake clawing and biting and Sam’s previously-burned face was absolutely savage -- loved it. Very well paced match with Sam’s hope slowly growing, particularly when he took the leg-out and started landing flush on Jake. The bleeding spot was fine, but the mic spot felt unnecessary. I understand why it was there, but it just felt kinda clunky, and it took a lot of the match’s urgency away. I was really rooting for Sam throughout and enjoyed the finishing flurry -- Vale Tudo Horry prevailed after all. Is that a heel turn in the post-match, too?

Rolling Out the Red Carpet
I bloody love Mikey Unlikely. Such an immediately detestable shit-eating little asshole. I was more than ready to hear some words from Andy Sharp, and as soon as the dude got rolling, here comes the goddamn entertainer. Liked that Andy was quite nice to Mikey when he first interrupted him, before eventually going “nah, screw this” and signing-off with a quick shoulder pat. Funny stuff, looking forward to more.

Henry Keyes vs. Chance Von Crank
That goddamn Donald Trump mask gets me every time. Think I would’ve liked a stronger commentary intro to this one, but whatever whatever. Minor nitpick. Very entertaining match. CVC’s a great heel, and I love seeing the way Dan writes him in DEF. I think we lost a lot of the character’s personality in the UTA, when random goobers were putting-out generic matches for the dude, but he absolutely shines here. A very enjoyable match and Henry isn’t weakened at all by the loss.

A Dark Cloud Looms
Genuinely cracked-up at the goofy-ass way Ty acknowledged Omega. Horry seemed a little bit too pleased with himself after what went down in the Donovan match. I get that the dude’s been through a lot, and it must’ve felt satisfying to put Jake away in such a violent manner, but this bordered on smugness. Decent little seg that I imagine was designed to plant a few seeds.

Angel Trinidad vs. Frank Dylan James
I bloody love a good hoss fight, and this was an excellent hoss fight. A few of these moves *hurt* me was I was reading the damn thing, particularly the barricade fallaway slam. If I’ve got one complaint it’s that the commentary got kinda sparse in the middle of the match, which kinda hurt my reading flow a little, but it’s a tiny grievance. Angel is an absolute specimen, and the fact that he’s so tall but “only” 300-ish pounds makes things like the suicide dive believable and kinda terrifying. Great match. Angel comes out looking like a goddamn beast.

Bringing Respect Back
I’m from the UTA, where good babyface promos are like unicorns, so this was a very pleasant surprise. Sweet little summary of Harmony’s thoughts going into the SoHer title match, and by attacking Penn’s reluctance to fight through injury, she paints herself as someone who *will* fight those kinda odds to get where she wants. That’s babyface 101.

SoHer Ladder Match
Penn’s promo is great. Unlike Ryan’s earlier, he goes right after his opponents and just runs them the hell down, putting his inferiority complex out there for all to see. Line about ruining Christmas was great. I think the formatting could’ve used some tweaking here. There are some very long portions of action without commentary to break them up, which makes the match a bit harder to read but also takes away from some of the bigger moments, because the commentary team aren’t selling what just happened. Jason mentioned the hurricanrana spot and it’s a good example.

The match is great though. It’s a fun spotfest that opens at 100mph and stays pretty breakneck throughout. German Suplex off the ladder, Ty getting his testicles popped, superplex from the ladder, Walker and Sharp getting flipped into the front row of fans. Really memorable stuff. This came across like a really spirited athletic contest, and that’s exactly what the match needed to be. Penn being a little prick before (and during) the match tips it further over the edge and adds a new wrinkle of interest. Good read, and I’m looking forward to see what Harm does as champ.

Drawing Some Blood
I’m so pumped to be in DEF with Box. Love the character. Obviously we were in UTA at the same time as each other, but I feel like he’s really in full pomp on his home field. The character’s obviously a huge part of the fed’s history and a vital cog in the machine, which makes everything he says feel just that little bit more important. LT’s on fire here too, obvs, shutting bitches down and calling them out on their bullshit. Glad the violence got pulled apart before it could get too intense. I’m not sure I needed the physical altercation, but I guess it was bound to happen.

Dusty Griffifth vs. Aleczander the Great
This thing got off to a great start. Loved the description of the fans clapping and stomping along to the KISS song, then Alecz smashing Dusty’s head-off before the bell’s even sounded. This match is fucking great. Perfect pacing, perfect flow, very well-written. Loved Alecz trapping Big Dust in the sleeper to escape the elbow onslaught. It’s a tiny detail, but it’s so smart, and I love little psychological nuances like that. I’m a small details guy, not an ERMAHGERD! SPOTS! guy. Coming off this show, Dusty is comfortably one of my favourite guys in the fed. DEF, for me, is the place that emphasises the actual *wrestling* better than anywhere else, and Dusty embodies that for me: when Alecz is fuckin’ around, Dust just wants to elbow, chop and suplex the hell out of him. Amazing match. I love the brutal slugfests: if this was a recorded contest, I’d rewind it four or five times before moving onto the next one.

And Then Something Else Happened…
Guys. Seriously. We gotta add an “E” to “BAWS,” because I am not at all comfortable with Dane’s nickname also being a Scottish colloquialism for testicles. I knew Dane was coming back, but I didn’t know it’d be on this show. Knew exactly what was happening as soon as I read “The lights, they drop,” though. Hairs on the neck. I guess the past 3-4 months of writing with Justin every week have made his sentences immediately recognisable today, ha. Great little thinger to get the big bastard back through the goddamn door. I’m pumped.

FIST Ladder Match
First off, *GREAT* use of the announcers to put Dewey’s story into a CliffsNotes format -- I always, always, always harp-on about stuff like this when it’s not done well, so it’s only right to point-out when it *is*. Much more of a story-driven match than the SoHer ladder war, given the characters involved, but just as breathless. More testicle-destruction, which is exactly what matches like these are made for. Staredown and “are they gonna fight?” moment between the in-laws was very nicely done. Lots of great stuff throughout this one, and it felt like just as something was about to happen… *bam*, another competitor appears out of nowhere and puts an end to it. The spike-gouging… I dunno. I wasn’t really into it, coming from LT. Could’ve used a little more build-up to give it that context, because kinda painted Troy as some kinda bloodthirsty savage, which… isn’t what I expect. You brought me right back into it with the Humility Bomb, though. Great match.

I can live with that.
