DEFTV Beef

The Rundown:

Nice rundown, nice quick recap of the main event at the ppv. Did its job.

Daney DIggs vs Petey Garrett
The match that never happened pt 2. Good stuff here as Greeper (green reaper) is attacking people and TAKING his mic time. He calls out Scott who shows up and comes down to fight, but before he can get his hands on MDK, he’s gone. I like.

Fight Now Plz
I read this before the show as Stevie wanted my input on a totally bruvtastic photo! After I added in my 5 words, I read the rest of it. GOLD! I love JFK as a character and he’s going to shine even more now as a stand alone. Kendrix invites the returning Natas to fight right now, only to duck out at the last second. I think we accidentally did the same deal in two segs in a row. Good stuff here tho and this feud picks up right where it left off.

Cally Rolls Her Eyes
Oooooh Babyface on Babyface heat! I like it. Cayle needs to take a chill pill and relaxxxxxxx. This was a nice set up for next week's match, color me intrigued.

The Ones Who Do The Challenging
Nice change for PCP playing babyface now. I enjoyed this and declare them the most elaborate entrance in DEF now. Great stuff with them “taking steps” towards touching the fans and not being as high of a celebrity status. Nice set up with The Storm. Billy and Tom are hilarious.

Phenoms vs The Storm.
Great match, awesome pacing and a fun read! Loved the finish. Nice way to distract the challengers and have the champions retain! OOH!

Heel Bruvs!
Hahahahahaha loved this bit from Bronson Box and JFK. these two could not be more different and it shines so brilliantly in this seg. I am feeling pretty sports entertained by this! Hope to see more of this action soon. These two could have a great rivalry especially considering the past history already built between the two.

Ownership
Super heat from Eric dane and curtis penn. I really liked this bit, read very fluidly. I think the champ is coming off strong right now. And a good feud with Eric Dane would be stellar. Lets hope they keep going that direction.

Tag Team Misfits
EAT HIS BRAINS! Great line! This is great, whenever I picture Bronson Box’s wrestling style I think of War Machine from ROH brutal powerhouse. Nice, closely contested match. Loved the finish (cause my bruv won!) and the way it was done.
The Bloody Bastards
Excited to see Jason back. Looking forward to it.

Impulse vs Reaper.
Are we going to see the Greeper? What a match! Contrasting wrestling styles here, a big powerful guy vs a small technician. Very nicely written, and worthy of a main event. I think the finish was a little weak for a change of title, but im SURE this one isn’t done. I think this backfires in Reapers face maybe!? I don’t know but congrats to the man as this was a much deserved win! The SOHER moves on!

Deal With Devil
The handshake o doom! Big things coming from this im sure! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD Arc Discussion/Feedback Thread - DEFtv 81 is live!

I’m, historically, very consistent with feedback. This round catches me in a pretty busy period. I read the card during work on my phone… I’m going back and skimming it as I write this, so I hope I don’t miss anything. Also, skipped Uncut because I wrote three of the four segments. Which, the only outlier … Jason’s … is mentioned below.

Also shout out to Mikey … gone and STILL feeding those backs! Also … Greaper… So GREAT!

Fight Now Plz
Kendrix stepping out for the first time completely sans Mikey amidst a PCP face turn, cannot wait to see how he addresses it. The chants are awesome. Since I first got here I’ve been a big fan of JFK, always a stellar heel. He is similar enough to Mikey for the two of them to have worked together seamlessly but just different enough to really stand out. I’m hoping the reignited feud with Natas will really elevate him beyond the Bruvs and the fallen SEG. And clearly Natas isn’t fucking around. Can’t wait to see how this plays out.

Cally Rolls Her Eyes

Cayle is on a tear … he doesn’t even want Impulse to impede on his vengance. Though, he clearly is letting that blood lust skew his view of the people who has his best interest in mind. That offense is enough to raise the ire of the normally deadpan Champ… This will be VERY interesting in the coming weeks. Cally is hilarious here as per usual.

The Ones Who Do The Challenging
Funny stuff, of course. Carrying on from SEG antics but bending it toward the mannerisms of faces … or at least heels in active reform. Although I think to Faithful they already made the turn, not sure how much the need to pinpoint the differences is needed. The people are behind PCP, just GO. The turn was incredible, rather than milk it … go. That being said, still fantastic work. At least for this show I dig the oversold “subtleties” to bridge the gap. But hopefully, with the explosion of the tag situation this won’t be needed going forward. T-Bizzle in this bitch!! And the rain … it’s a coming!

PCP vs TBizzle Presents The Storm
I dug the match, a little short given the amount of matches on the card … but that really bares nothing on the handlers. And are we still doing short form? Lol This worked perfectly for what they were trying to accomplish. I think I would have liked to see the Champs be wronged, in a non-title situation … rather than another successful deal … BUT with the Masked V.1 distraction clearly The Storm are fodder for more to come … although I suspect this won’t be the last we hear from them. Line of the match, “They’ve weathered The STORM!” Mostly because… I mean come on … how could you NOT?!

Heel Bruvs!
Better title; “You got that, Boxy?” LOL
I do think Box shines … and equally buries JFK a bit too much in his opening salvo, but small gripe at best. And then I re-read. This segment is perfect. JFK’s co-dependancey shines without really killing him as a competitor. Also, hilarious.

Ownership
Looks like the BAWS isn't a big fan of his petulant creation off the leash. It'll be interesting to see if Dane can get cleared or what he'll do instead.

BRONSON BOX & KENDRIX VS. JASON NATAS & CAYLE MURRAY

Great match. The finish was unexpected but I dig it! Lengthy entrances but for this type of match… quick read! And compelling! Great way to mix two of the biggest feuds going! My only thing is .. why did Cayle have no “mean streak” after just showing some toward a friend earlier… albeit I suppose that could be filed under hurting the ones you are the closest to.., but I dug this end all be all … worst case scenario … “WE GOT OURSELVES A TAG TEAM MATCH, PLAYA!”

The Bloody Bastards
Quick segment. Well written. Super interested to see how they will play into the tag team scene. Especially considering the Uncut segment with Wilde talking with T4H … could this all boil down to Trickle-Bizzle vs Wilde Style? The tag div is FULL of intrigue.

Impulse vs Reaper.
I always love a rogue title change on TV. Especially when it wasn't defended on the ppv. I dug the match and I think it was well written. I can’t really speculate given I’m semi-involved. But Reaper Co is and will be a force to be reckoned with … especially NOW in GOLD! lol

Deal With Devil
Didn’t see that coming … well kind of did after the segment earlier, but the match didn’t seem to sell that … but that may have just been the editorialization of the commentation station. That being said … HELL of a cliff hanger for the show. What will happen next!? I’m interested.

SHIT BRUV, NO FANS
I always dig with the show line up is shaken up a little with a cold open rather than jumping straight into the Rundown. I think I’ve mentioned prior that I was disappointed to see the Natas thing take a break and that I’m glad to see it steamrolling ahead again. The two in the wild are natural enemies, braun vs clever dick head. No-nonsense vs all the nonsense. Good opening segment.

THE RUNDOWN
Wrote it, looks way shorter posted than I thought it was. Hope it served it’s purpose though.

CAYLE MURRAY vs. IMPULSE
Opening and entrances were nice and short but also got over what needed to be. The match is off to great start and as Angus states the inevitable happens. Before that the Cally stuff plays really well. The heels get the short end of the stick this go ‘round but this properly highlights the respective matches they surely have coming up.

LET THEM EAT CAKE!
Nice quick little segment. MV#1 is entertaining as ever. Jenkin’s closing line worked nicely as well. With so much going on in the tag team scene as of late it’s nice to see everything is coming together and this is clearly setting up for something more.

REINHARDT HOFFMAN vs. JACK HUNTER
Quick match, super smash and all but Hunter is always hilariously stupid. Can’t say this makes Hoffman look strong being that is Hunter but it shows a cold and calculated mean streak. Good launching pad for Hoffman.

CODENAME: REAPED
A little more cutting delivery from Impulse than usual. And it seems as if he is familiar with Reaper beyond the mask. The challenge is laid out there or more like demanded so the rematch cometh.

THE BASTARD SONS OF WRESTLING vs. THUGS 4 HIRE (BRAZEN)
Decent match although I found it a little hard to follow at points. The commentary felt weird in places but I haven’t been around long enough to claim I know perfectly how those two should or should not be written; so ignore that. Otherwise, Bastard Sons debut and go over on BRAZEN’s resident Thugs. Good launch point, debut strong with a win and move on the bigger fish and all that. Works well. The only thing, I think, this is really missing is the ride out … After the THREE count all we get is the one line. I’d would have liked to have seen DDK and Angus do a little bit of a post mortem here to put over the win. Especially considering this is a debut.

SHUT UP, LYKOS
Should have seen it coming. Didn’t but should have. I was wrapped up the Box talk and speak Kendrix name and he shall appear. Great companion piece to the original. The title of this seg was completely lost on me

LET THEM EAT CAKE, TOO!
That escalated quickly and ended with a little bit of intrigue. It’s simple to see where this is probably going but how they intend on getting there is the question. Especially given that last line of dialogue. I’m definitely interested. Good segment.

SCALPS
This was reading like the corruption of Cayle Murray for a minute. Fascinating to say the least. At nearly the last minute Cayle pulls it out of the nose dive a reminds folks he’s face-ist. Could have ended there but as it goes along it slides into this weird grey area. Which going into one last Box/Murray battle, being unsure what Cayle is willing to do for that scalp is pretty compelling.

BRONSON BOX vs. JASON NATAS
Angus’ deflated “Hoss fight?” is great. Barn burner of a match to say the least. I wasn’t really sure who would come out on top. Box pulling it out in the end plays well though keep him looking ever so beastly moving into the pay per view. Box’s deal at the end was top notch heel shit. And no ropes… that’ll be interesting. One question though, Angus says something about all ten ropes gone. Wouldn’t there be 12? Or am I counting wrong. 4 sides, three a peice. Another small nitpicky gripe, early in the match DDK says that both are highly skilled grapplers. Later it’s mentioned that “Jason Natas doesn’t have a clue what the phrase “technical wrestling” even means.” Nitpicky for sure but something that stuck out for me. Great match otherwise, great main event. It certainly pushes along Box/Cayle/Dane and potentially weakens Natas/JFK.

OVERALL
Good show, quick read all in all. Still some inconsistencies as far as format but nothing to big to really whine about. I don’t think the length stuff (not counting the main) will ever really be adhered to but at the same time I think this card, in length, wasn’t too beastily to take in a sitting. The continuity of this show was great as well. I can’t remember any instances of odd timings or Cuts to places that in the next segment didn’t match up. Moving toward DEFRoad, this feels like a solid early card in this arc. Kudos to everyone. Just dawned on me as well ... FIST-less show. Not a huge fan of that BUT with so much stuff going on that could help build to something larger.

As usual, drunkenly typed not read.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD Arc Discussion/Feedback Thread - DEFtv 81 is live!

Shit Bruv No Fans. (hahahahahahahaahaha this title! Shut up, Mykos!)
This was a great segment and something I NEVER expected. When does the face gets his hands on the heel? At the PPV usually. I guess thats why this works. It’s a lot of fun to have Natas intimidating Kendrix into a match using nothing but brutality as a threat. Good Schtuff.

THE RUNDOWN!
REAP WHAT YOU SOHER - Kudos. Maybe the best sign ever.
Very nice rundown, love the transition from Natas v JFK to Natas vs Bronson Box. Very smooth overall except the transition into the first match. I like a good closing line myself but thats just because of big bantz.

Impulse vs Cayle Murphy.
Great start to the match and very brief intros.I always enjoy seeing character step out of their comfort zone and see how they react to it. Cally coming out is a nice touch but I hated this line of commentary: “Cally: Angus, my love, when push comes to shove I’ll always be in RK’s corner, but these guys needs to stop this silliness and remember who the real enemies are.” This is pro wrestling, with two singles competitors. I don’t think the Babyfaces goals should be to “beat up the bad guys” it should be “to be the best in the world”. This isn’t batman, its pro wrestling. Bronson Box comes down and stops the match and attacks Murray. This desolves into fuckery but its written well and the drinking buds are A’OK.

Let Them Eat Cake!
COLESLAW JENKINS! My dude! MV #1 is offering a...well...peace offering! CAKE! Who doesn’t like cake!? Fun seg, let's see where it goes!

Reinhardt Hoffman vs Jack Hunter
The Superlidified is back! Nice quick jobber match. The Marty Scrull finger pop, and submission holds. Nice way to expand on the character. Reinhardt making a full jump to the roster? MAYBE!?

Codename: Reaped
Loved it! Fire from the calm guy! Keep it up. I prefer Impulse on edge vs Impulse zen.

B-SOW vs T4H: Tag Team Match Playa! Holla Holla Holla!
These are the two of Jason’s characters that i have no familiariaty with. Which I am actually enjoying as I have a pretty good “feel” for the other one or two. Probably tioo much commentary in the match and not enough “summary” but its the debut or (redebut) of two guys so ill cut the slack. Agree that the post match was lackluster but we’re just getting a taste of the playas.

Shut Up Lykos (Shitty, Shitty, Shitty little wolf!)
Nice segment and just as they set up for the kendrix bit, here he comes to “get some back” from Natas after the embarassment to open the show. Good stuff. Kendrix with the cheap shot. Always a fan of a bruv and a cheapshot. This is my favorite feud in DEF right now, no offense to everyone else, but im probably biased anyway.

Let Them Eat Cake Too!
Hahahahahah slaw eats all the cake and then makes them think theres some beef abound when in reality the man smashed. Great bit. Looking forward to MV’s super confused reaction.

MDK vs Grendal
Well wasn’t this a load of fuckery!? The match quickly ends the way it should, with MDK/Reaper going over. Then the lights go out and there are more of em, then Scott Douglas (the fastest rising babyface in the universe) comes for the save only to get fucked himself. I think this feud is kinda hitting a deadspot to me. No offense to those involved but how many times we going to see someone just show up. Lights out, errrrrbody dead? That works until you’re bored of it. And Im just about bored of it…

Scalps
LOVED IT. had to read it in one sitting. Love the path Dane and Murray are on, great character building I cant wait to see the end all be all ass kicker Cayle Murray…. Unless….it’s not his time… (OMG NO I CANT!)

A Call To Arms
HAHAHAHHA LOVE that the reaction is like “da fuck!?” thats terrific and natural. Not at all like a “storybook” would go, but thats not what were after. Great segment, hoping the 6 man becomes a reality, and the babyfaces get SOMETHING back. Will see. The idea at the end piques my interest again.

Natas vs Box
What a nasty fucking match, it was fire though. Couldn’t put it down for awhile. Love how we get through a bunch of brutal shit then Natas stands up points to his head and asks for more! BRUTAL. Thought Box was going to finish this one earleir with the BRAINBUSTAHHHHHHHH. Great match, worthy of a main event no doubt. Loved the promo after the fact and the challenge to a no ropes match. Never seen one in EW so will be a great read no doubt.

Great show guys!

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD Arc Discussion/Feedback Thread - DEFtv 81 is live!

Awesome show peeps. This arc is pretty hot right now. Just going to comment on the feuds/random thoughts as opposed to a complete run down.

The opener was Murr's idea, really like these kind of things at the start of the show before the credits run. don't think they should happen all the time but certainly adds to the build up of the show when it does happen.

Cayle Murray, Box and Dane: Good follow up match to what happened between Impulse and Cayle last week. Of course there were going to be run ins. Cayle gets attacked again by Box. This leads to a great seg between Cayle and Dane. I hope we get to see an edgier and more ruthless Cayle moving forward, he's going to have to be to beat Box, cos he certainly won't be holding back. Love that Dane is back in the fed and what these two are doing at the moment. Box's announcement has me intrigued, never heard of a no ropes match before. I have no idea how that is going to work!

Impulse and Reaper. Impulse laying down the challenge to get his title back. Good seg from Pete, paced well and a bit of edge from Impulse at the end. Doesn't seem put off with Reaper's games at all, he's been around the block a few times and is ready to give some back.

Haynes/Jenkins/BSOW/MVs DEFIANCE is exciting to be in right now. Got such a good roster here with the addition of a few tag teams (I'm struggling to get to grips with the new teams, as there are a few, but like what I've read so far. The masked Violaters are my favs so far). Having Haynes and Jenkins in the fed the last few shows has been great and these were good fun segs this show. Looking forward to seeing more and how this potential 6 man tag develops.

MDK/Reapers/Douglas: This story keeps running, I like all three characters, I'm a big fan of Reaper and Douglas but I agree with Mikey, feels like it's a bit repetitive at this stage and I'd like to see Douglas get a one up on the bad guys. Still a fan of the feud and it's been hot for a while but wasn't a fan this week.

All in all great show, well done everyone.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD Arc Discussion/Feedback Thread - DEFtv 81 is live!

Rundown: PCP jokes about PCP always right themselves, don’t they?

Dane/Penn: I’m not as big on Penn as other people, but I think I’m hung up on how Penn was written in the past. So I’m trying to work past that. This segment helped thought it was well done on both fronts and did an excellent job of hyping the ME later on in the show. I’m a HUGE Eric Dane mark though, to be noted.

Natas vs. Ishida: I thought this was going to be just a squash but was written nicely to showcase Natas as well as the squashable talent. Liked the TKO ending, it really took things over the top IMO and was nice instead of a standard pin fall win. Natas is back AND ANGRY!

Rock Out: Quick hitter for the Tag Team Champs. The D is very over confident, well Elise is playing it safe. Love playing teams against themselves, gives them some development without having to rely on anyone else. Do we think the D will overcome the odds or will he fall under the pressure?

Fraud: A sort of meta-esque segment here. Kendrix is certainly annoying, but I’m sort of over the chicken shit heel act. I just wanna see Natas clobber Kendrix and BAD! I’m sure I’m going to get that. I’m just inpatient. Good segment here as it did the job and made me hate JFK more.

Triple Threat Jawn: Good Tag Team Division showcase here, taking a little break from the norm. The D gets an impressive win while the MVs and the Storm show no love between the teams. I know where this is headed and what will happen, so I don’t wanna talk about it too much. Hope people will like what we all are doing. Good work Paul and Billy and Tom for throwing this together.

Biz with Boss: Needed to set up the forthcoming match and add a little intrigue into the Bastards storyline. Hopefully I accomplished both my goals.

Peace Offerings: Impluse and Cayle being baby faces. Good stuff. I like this because it further’s the whole don’t trust Dane thing. I’m half expecting Dane to turn on Cayle and align with Box somehow just from reading this segment. Which means of course, it was good.

Message: Reaper vs. Impulse coming at you. What about later tonight? THE HUMANITY. Short, sweet, setting something up. Another good little transition for the show.

JFK/Bigsby: Liked the ending, really well thought out. Over confident Kendrix losing to a Brazen talent is so perfect it hurts.

Say Yes: SO looks like this will be a HUGE Def Road mathc, should be great. I assume Natas will get his revenge but around here you just simply never know.

Spike and Fork: Marked out for most of this segment because Evan and Justin. Well written, really shined through how much these guys get their characters. Looking forward to what is in store.

Six Man: Thought this would be a mess to read honestly but was surprised to find it flow nicely and lead to Douglas’ arrest. Well done, makes me want to see the character come out the other side of this. I really enjoy the Douglas story and think this only ADDS to it.

This Is It: Nice promo, little breather before the ME.

Penn vs. Impluse: Didn’t think the ending would work out the way it did. TONS of flash and false finishes. A plus to whomever wrote this. Great surprise ME.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD Arc Discussion/Feedback Thread - DEFtv 81 is live!

THE RUNDOWN... AND THEN SOME
Quickly interrupted by the returning FIST. Some good heel schtick here leading to the BAWS’ interjection. Pretty tried and true stuff, shit talking cocky heel, throw him in a match tonight. I like the use of the rundown spot to push forward later events. Also found Penn to be more believable in this second then in the past few weeks. Interested to see how the match turns out.

JASON NATAS VS. KYO ISHIDA

First match and being it’s Natas v. BRAZEN, I expect a slaughter and/or Kendrix involvement. Pleasantly surprised to only be sort of right. Kyo puts up a good fight, even strikes first before the bell. Good stuff. Waiting for the standing ten was interesting, you don’t see that a lot. Says a lot about Natas and his current overall outlook. And damnit if Kyo doesn’t have a little bit of fight left in him. Momentarily at least. Well written match with a great finish. Continues Natas looking like a complete beast who has no problem punting someone’s head in general comp. Imagine what he has planned for The Last of the Bruv-icans. Which commentary sold well.

ROCK OUT WITH YOUR D OUT
Quick little set up for the three way match. Is this the beginning of a PCP split? Or just a easy way to explain away Elise not being at ringside for ease of writing. Either way decent segment and it gives the tag champs a presence on the show since Elise won't be competing. Plus penis related levity.

FRAUD
Love the start of the segment, gives off the feeling Kendrix is petrified of what he has just seen only to undercut the shit out of it with the YAWN. Good segment here. Great heel shit, in that even though you know he is completely full of shit he did take the DOC from Natas. And now drawing comparisons between BRAZEN combatants opens JFK up to get some egg on his face. Or to seemingly match “mite” with Natas with a win.

Business with the Boss
Some Bastard Business. Been awhile since Kelly has been on the show. This is pretty cut and dry, sets up a tag match and possible title situation, I’m sure feeding into this three way tag thing that is going on. And eludes to Wildeside being shady in the past. Good quick segment. Glad to see the tag div moving along. I think it's been said before he Bastards were in DEF before? If I'm remembering correctly. Before my time so when I read these characters I may be missing some nuance, but segments like this work well as well as the MV/Coleslaw deal last show.

MASKED VIOLATOR #1 VS. HIROSHI ZO VS. THE D
Eh. 3Way was meh. ( <- Thats for Paul) Three ways are tough to write to begin with - without having one man down while the other two go at it. So I'll say first thing I think the action was navigated very well. Also, "before the D goes limp" and "Hold your enema water, Keebs!"

The first few blocks were a little tough for me to follow with the three competitors but it got easier as it went on. I think that is more on my comprehensive reading skills than the writing. But hell of a finish, I really got drawn in about half way through with Kazushi showing up. And then the shortly lived triumphant return of MV2! Which led to one of my favorite moments, MV1 leaving the match to save 2. The nod and salute, so courteous. After Kazushi and MV2 popped up, I thought for sure this would end up with Elise running in and that prior segment being a misdirect. But regardless good match, puts some heat on this newly sustainable tag div. Good shit.

PEACE OFFERINGS
Great segment. Puts Reaper over, gives context to Dane for anyone new. Sells the main event, sells the continued Civil War antics and quips at the No Ropes deal. Warms the heart.

REINHARDT HOFFMAN VS. LEVI COLE
Damn, put Levi on injured reserve. That was a quick and brutal deconstruction of Cole. Box’s second is going to be hell to deal with on the main roster. I'd have to imagine he ends up involved in the Cayle/Box beef at some point.

MESSAGE RECEIVED
Quick segment but effective. Cally/Pulse banter is always fun and then Reaper doing what he does. A little different for the Reaper character to be worried about spotlight or to show jealousy but the character is constantly evolving. Will this affect the main? Will Reaper interject himself or Co in the main? Good shit but heat on the PPV as puts the main event in question.

KENDRIX VS. FELTON BIGSBY
Decent match. Kendrix’s lighthearted approach is a nice touch. Egg on his face as expected. Didn’t think it would come from the appearance of Natas but that works well. Espescially because I was expecting it the other way around. Good stuff.

SAY "YES"
Oh shit! Career on the line! Nice little post match post script to set up DEFRoad. And a little action to boot.

A SPIKE AND A FORK
Oh shit, this escalated quickly and then doubled down! Great segment, sets up next week and keeps the heat on this Civil War Saga. It was nice the fork was foreshadowed earlier in the night establishing it as a reoccurring theme with Dane. I came in around DEFCON and read the show but with no context it was tough to retain to much but I'm certain that is the only match I've seen Dane in. So the fork would have been lost on me if not written the way it was.

THIS IS IT
Next week's rundown before the show is even over. It's a nice touch of realism to "buy some time" waiting to find out in Impulse will be cleared or not.

IMPULSE v. PENN
Strong match. A lot of near falls building up the tension, some light interference, an injured challenger and a new champ. Big way to end this show. DEFRoad is looking like it’s going to be a barn burner. One can only assume Penn will be demanding his rematch. Impulse looks super strong here, fighting through the pain and what not, Babyface Over 9000. And Penn should have the super heel hissy fit ready to go next week. Hell or even an Uncut of him trashing the locker room spitting and cursing at Katz or something.

OVERALL
Good card and the lion-share of the card was in early which is always dope and hopefully means everyone is really invested in what they are doing right now. Hope the trend continues.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD Arc Discussion/Feedback Thread - DEFtv 81 is live!

Guys, fantastic show and it was all in on time. DEFIANCE is so hot right now!

DANE/PENN: Great start to the show between Penn and Dane. Penn shoots a great, obnoxious, opening promo then BAWS man comes out to put him in his place with a little reality check. Great interaction between the two to set up the main event of the night. Felt like Penn needs something big to sink his teeth into now due to the recent comings and goings and this back and forth between him and Dane has been good to see last few shows.

Rock Out with your D out: Missed PCP last show so good to see them back. These guys are awesome, loved working with them in SEG and their face turn has been great to watch. This was a good build up seg. Keep the D inuendos/references coming!

Business with the Boss: Forgot Kelly Evans was a thing for a while there so good to see her back on the show. Seg sets up tag match, clean interaction between the two. The tag division has bolstered up alot this arc so still getting my head around the new names but the bastards have themselves a tag match with the champs which could possibly lead to a title match if they win.

Peace Offerings: Cayle and Impulse being nice and respectable to each other following the slight disagreement they had a few weeks ago. Seg builds up the main event and the relationship between cayle and dane. Good stuff.

Message Received: Cally and Impulse on their way to get ready for the big one later in the show. Good back and forth between the two focussing on what this match means and Penn before Reaper with the sneak attack out of nowhere. Impulse can't afford to take his eye off this particular ball for one second it seems, will he be ready for the main event? Solid seg.

A Spike and A Fork: When I saw the title I feared the worst (in a good way). Cayle has some serious balls to wait outside Box and Reinhardt's locker room. Could feel the intensity in this seg when Box was jawing with the spike on cayle. Dane shows up with the save with his good old trusty fork for good measure. This was beautifully written guys. Awesome.

This Is It: I like this mid show build up/recap type of thing. Would like to see more of this on regular shows not just pre PPV. Cool poster for the PPV too.

Matches were awesome guys, as I've said above, the writers here are incredible and this show was on point. Probably best I've read since I've been in DEFIANCE....we got ourselves a new champ. Congrats to Pete. Looking forward to the aftermath of this.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD Arc Discussion/Feedback Thread - DEFtv 81 is live!

The Rundown... And Then Some

I had nothing to do with this. All props go to Pete and Jon. Personally I loved it, Curtis Penn is the kind of heel that you can really get into hating, and of course his trainer and legendary boss makes a pretty good foil if I do say so myself.

Jason Natas vs Kyo Ishida
*1/2

Pretty formulaic squash match, but with enough character injected in to make both characters stand out. I like Ishida, I hope he gets more use, and of course Natas is a fucking beast.

Rock Out With Your D Out

Now, I like the champs, but I prefer them as heels. That said this was good and it was funny and it got over The D as a babyface as well as anything else could. Top marks.

Fraud

I. Fucking. Hate. Kendrix. In kayfabe. He's another completely punchable douchebag heel. The best part? He gets himself over without burying his opponent, and that's a fine art that I'm quite sure he picked up in UTA (because of Ben's obsession with it). The segment did start to drag near the end, I'd say chopping a third of a page off of the bottom would have made this one just a little bit sweeter of a morsel. Either way, great heel work, great segment.

Masked Violator #1 vs Hiroshi Zo vs The D
**

Lots of characters here that I'm new to, and that makes it a little difficult for me to digest. This is in no way a knock against the writers, it means I need to get on the ball catching up. It was a little slow to start, as three-way matches tend to be, but it picked up pretty quick and was well put together. The tag partners showing up went a good distance in furthering the issues at hand, and the finish was well put together. I can't complain at all.

Business With The Boss

When Jason asked me how to write Kelly and I told him that Kelly is basically the Cash Me Ousside girl all grown up, well, this isn't what I expected. Perfectly functional, but very little character shown here by either Jon Wildside or Kelly Evans. I chalk this up to rust, and expect to see Jason pick it up as time goes on. Nothing bad here, just nothing great either.

Peace Offerings

Jesus, do these characters mesh. I fuggin' love it. I'm glad to see Cayle and Impulse are super-BFFs again and all is right on the babyface side of the fence. Nothing groundbreaking here, but some great allusion to other things going on around these characters including angles and tonight's main event.

Reinhardt Hoffman vs Levi Cole
*1/2

Jesus, goodbye Levi Cole. Another quick squash with lots of character jammed in a small space. Reinhardt is starting to look like a player, that's for sure.

Heavens to Mergatroyd! Reaper is a big deal, and this bit has big implications for the main event. I liked it a lot, this thing makes me want to go back and catch up on how we got here with Reaper and Impulse. Needless to say, I like this segment a lot.

Kendrix vs Felton Bigsby
***

Man, I dug this match! I also dug the ending, which does nothing whatsoever to hurt Kendrix because it works and it shows his mindset and how affected he is by Jason Natas, no matter how much JFK would be loath to admit it. I will say this though: You guys know that you can have matches with other characters on the main roster, right? I mean three out of four matches so far involving BRAZ talent? Not that I don't love me some BRAZ, but this is starting to look like an episode of World Championship Wrestling from 1983.

Say "Yes"

A straight continuation from the previous match. Stevie and Andy get it. Natas has jumped through hoops and made it impossible for JFK not to accept this match that he clearly wants no part of, but has the wherewithal to add the retirement stip before going home. I love it!

A Spike and a Fork

3/4 of the credit here goes to Andy and Evan, two masters of their craft. I'm just happy to be a cog in the machine at this point. I'd like to point out that this is how you get heat, you make it personal and you give the people involved something tangible to hate in each other. The No Ropes Match is going to be lit, of that I am completely confident.

Reaper Co. and Midorikawa vs Scott Douglas and Brutal Attack Force
**1/2

Not gonna lie, I was a little lost here. I knew there were two Reapers but I'm completely unfamiliar with why, and I'm not very familiar with anybody else in the match but another set of BRAZ guys in the BAF. Anyhow, the match came together, got the point across, and went home. Nothing to complain about here, but some more knowledge on my end would have probably made this better in my eyes. Again, no fault of the handlers, gimme some time guys, I'm doing the best I can with the time I have here.

This Is It

Buffer segments gon' buffer.

That sure is a purdy logo for DEF Road though!

Impulse vs Curtis Penn (c)
***

Goddamn this match! It started off so goddamned good, so much white heat, and then before I thought it was anywhere close to ready to go home BLAM SUPARKIX NU CHMAP! It's not that I hated the match, I loved it, I just wanted it to go on for another four or five pages at least. I know that we're trying to keep things kind of low key for DEFtv, and I know Pete was holding back for that very reason, I just wish this one would have been given the proper time to develop so that the win would have been more satisfying. Having said all of that, congratulations Pete on becoming the new FIST~!

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD Arc Discussion/Feedback Thread - DEFtv 81 is live!

Making up for lost time, baby.

UNCUT 18

TALE OF THE TAPE, PART I (TRUE LIES):
Great little continuation from the PPV. Hooked on this little storyline, and Douglas’ desire to prove himself innocent. Nothing is really given away here, but as usual with the likes of Brian and Justin B, just enough information is provided to build intrigue for the next chapter. It’s perfect, then.

BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY:
Very minimal, which means it gets straight to the point, but there’s not much character showing through as a result. I understand trying to keep a lower word count, but it’s not always worth it when it comes at the cost of personality. That being said, it’s always great seeing someone take a BRAZEN character and playing to their gimmick, which happens when the Thugs take payment here.

TALE OF THE TAPE, PART II (PRESS, LIES & VIDEO TAPE:
MDK’s back, BAY BAY. Fantastic continuation from the last segment, and the masked man’s involvement adds yet another layer of interest. This is a hot storyline!

TALE OF THE TAPE, PART II (RETURN TO RENDER):
Thought the title was a typo at first, but it turns out I’m just a dope. Not much to say that I haven’t already said, but I like the use of Lance Warner here, with the lad seriously shaken-up by the three masked dorks, as he should be.

DEFtv 81

DANNY DIGGS VS. PETEY GARRETT:
This fuckin’ new(ish) guys and their using the NPCs to great effect, who do they think they are?! Great continuation with BAF looking around for ambushes after the last few times they appeared… but it happened anyway. I did a laughter. The pieces are really coming together with this MDK angle, particularly with the tape, and the masked fucker’s “loss.” A great little segment with some diversionary tactics to keep the thing hot.

THE ONES WHO DO THE CHALLENGING: Well played on the crowd reaction, which should still be mixed so soon after turning, and is. Ring entrance is fun, but long-winded, and could have been cut down. A pretty good segment all-round, as the PCPs don’t feel like they’ve just thrown their old personas away and become “good guys” overnight. Lord Nige has mad bantz, too.

PCP vs. THE STORM: Fun match, and a great length too. Short matches are the business. A sneaky little roll-up victory works too, because these guys aren’t going to turn into Kenta Kobashi and Mitsuharu Misawa in the space of a few weeks. Good development~!

HEEL BRUVS: The two total arseholes I’m feuding with, combined in one segment? Bah~! This was BIG BANTZ. Love how cocky Kendrix is, even in the face of a man as outwardly terrifying as Boxer. I guess that’s what happens when you let JFK beat your arse. Cool “bonding” session here -- I particularly like that Boxy sees something in Kendrix, and recognises that getting away from Mikey Unlikely’s fuckery will be for the betterment of his career as a wrestler. Great work from great lads.

OWNERSHIP: My god, Curtis Penn is shooting! Got a real kick out of the negative star rating line. As usual, the champ is in full-on smarmy cunt mode here, and it’s hard to criticise him when that’s the case. Here comes Eric Dane, and it’s Hot Lava O’ Clock! Really nice dynamic here, with shithead Penn trying to goad inured Dane into a fight that he can’t possibly survive. Plays to Curtis’ cuntery, as well as Dane’s temper.

THE BLOODY BASTARDS: A lot more beef to this than the UNCUT segment, which is good. A mighty fine segment that hypes the two newcomers up, and puts their careers into perspective without spaffing too much information at once. Super nice job.

IMPULSE VS. CODENAME: REAPER: The dirty bastard Reaper and his dirty bastard cheating ways~! Nothing wrong with this match at all. It’s a nice length (IE: not too long) and the finish keeps the loser protected, while making the new champion look all kinds of devious. The title change was woefully undersold, however, and we only got a couple of “I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!” lines from DDK. This makes the whole thing feel much less significant, which is a shame.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD Arc Discussion/Feedback Thread - DEFtv 81 is live!

DEFtv 82

LET THEM EAT CAKE!:
Fun, but felt kinda filler-ish. It establishes the relationship between the two teams in the briefest of ways, and MV#1 is always a top boy, but it’s too short for any significant exposition.

CODENAME: REAPED:
“I don’t know he spoke cephalopod!” -- what a goddamn line. Another segment that is far too short to go into any great detail on, and felt very filler-ish. Slow start to this show.

BASTARDS VS. THUGS:
This was very okay. The way you write your action is perfect for summary-style matches, Jason, as the brevity really helps keep things condensed. I don’t really have much to complain about at all -- TV matches are supposed to be short and to the point, which is exactly what this is. Need some reaction from the commentators afterwards, though.

LET THEM EAT CAKE, TOO:
The Bastards’ personalities are starting to creep out now, which is nice. They could definitely benefit from more segments like this, with the four of them conversing between one another. Good follow-up on the flimsy segment from earlier on, and I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next. Closes with some INTRIGUE~!, too.

MIDORIKAWA VS. SOLOMON GRENDEL:
BAF back for revenge, baby! A very well-written match, but I must say I’m growing a little tired of the LIGHTS OUT stuff, as it seems to happen on a near-weekly basis. Hoping for a pay-off on that soon. Good post-match, however, with Douglas running the goon squad off. Gonna be mighty interesting to see how he tries to win a war against these creepy bastards.

A CALL TO ARMS:
I love that Douglas is hanging out with the BRAZEN geeks. It has been very well-built throughout his three (?) arcs with DEFIANCE, and feels natural. Love how Scott’s attempts are firing these guys up just falls completely on its arse when they straight-up reject him. But Douglas has a plan! Again, great stuff on the segment front. You’re doing a sterling job, and this is my favourite storyline in the fed at the moment.

UNCUT 19

FALSE HERO:
Feels like it has been a long time since we last saw Sweet T, which is a shame, because I like him. Reaper feels very much like the puppet-master here, pullin’ all kinds of strings with the goon squad doing his bidding. The relationship between him and Terry continues to evolve, too, and with the gang targeting Randall Orton, they feel like a yuge threat

THE REAL ENEMY:
I love shit like this, when the writer just totally breaks from the standard format. This read like an RP with the first-person perspective. A very solid way to sell Impulse’s regret at what’s been going on between him and Cayle, while realigning his focus to Reaper and the SOHER. We don’t have an “Intercontinental Championship” though, you big silly sausage you.

MEANWHILE…:
Holy shit, this is such a great idea! I’ve never seen this done before. Writing a concurrent segment that happens at the same time as another one, but from a completely different perspective. Props for thinking a little bit outside the box there. The content is tremendous, too, and I can definitely put the pieces together as far as “Court’” goes. INTRIGUE~!, baby. You has it.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD Arc Discussion/Feedback Thread - DEFtv 81 is live!

DEFtv 83

THE RUNDOWN… AND THEN SOME:
Stuff happening in the rundown, oh lawdy. Always good to fuck with the format every now and then. Was a shame Penn wasn’t on the last show, but he comes out shooting bullets, and continuing where he left off the last time. Dane-zel Washington interrupts before it can get too out of control, however. This is a most excellent continuation in this perma-feud, with Dane using Impulse as a proxy, because he can’t fight the prick himself. Loved it.

ROCK OUT WITH YOUR D OUT:
The dynamic between the PCPs is good, with Elise still super lazy and dopey, but The D trying to get her to get her shit together, despite being a total dope himself. An effective way to keep Elise out of the match later, which I’m sure must be leading to something.

MV #1 VS. THE D VS. HIROSHI ZO:
A decent summary match with a lot going on, as Kazushi shows up, and MV #2 makes his triumphant return, presumably from taking one HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLL of a shit. This read like a fun, fast-paced TV match, and while it’s hard to go into immense detail with these summaries, this put everyone over, pretty much. Good finish, too.

BUSINESS WITH THE BOSS:
Kelly Evans didn’t really feel like Kelly Evans here, which is a shame, but understandable, given the lack of familiarity. This suffered the same problem as a number of Bastards segments thus far, though: too threadbare to be anything more than a means to an end. Needs more FLAVA, preferably of the old skool variety.

REINHARDT HOFFMAN VS. LEVI COLE:
Evan did a sterling job with this. Hoffy is one of my favourite guys on wrestling style alone, and I enjoy reading him twisting guys all out of shape. The match is also a perfect length for DEFtv, too, which is something we all need to take note of from time to time. Brutal post-match beatdown shows that Hoffy isn’t just a great technician, but a ruthless bastard too. Wonder who he gets that from?

MESSAGE RECEIVED:
Wasn’t really feeling this. I get that Impulse feels comfortable wrestling Penn, but it really sold the main event short, and killed much of its heat from the babyface’s POV. Pulse is a little more laconic than most babyfaces here, but his “meh” attitude did nothing to get me FIRED UP. Reaper’s appearance is welcome, however, and a nice continuation of last week’s brief segment.

MASKED GEEKS VS. SCOTT DOUGLAS & BAF:
Shirley Manson is a national treasure… when did Angus become Scottish? Pretty long, this match, but I’m not too bothered because there was a lot of good story stuff within this. The action is very well done throughout but could perhaps benefit from brevity in places, particularly when it comes to smaller movements. Douglas getting arrested is a great twist for the story, and I’m pumped to see what transpires on UNCUT.

THIS IS IT:
Buffer’s gonna buffer. Did a nice job of running through the night’s action so far, thus serving its purpose.

CURTIS PENIS VS. RKO:
The selling of this match has been lacklustre throughout the evening, but the match itself is strong. A good-ass TV main event. Good pace to it, with no awkward massive chunks of text. Plenty of kicks-outs and shit. Targeting a limb is always solid psychology, particularly if said limb is already injured, and the aggressor is a total shit. I also liked Katze’s involvement, which while impactful, never felt too intrusive. That said, I’m glad Penn mooshed Angus with a backfist, as his affection for Impulse is starting to feel contrived. A new FIST -- what better way to finish the show?

Uncut 20

Use Your Delusions Part 1
What the hell Kelly up to? She's been off screen for quite some time, save last show, but she's clearly been up to something. Her hate for Penn seems endless and clearly something is about to pop. And for a hobbled man Angus is quite the busy body. Boy bye.

… OSU
Mushigihara on the horizon. Well written segment. Very descriptive. Quick and to the point but what else do really need for this type of tease. Good stuff. Now we need Mushigihara vs Midorikawa so no one reading can keep it straight in their head.

ONE YEAR LATER
New FIST post medical, Cally waiting in the wings. The tape bit was nice. And putting the hard emphasis on a year in works well. Some of the World Title talk and hints at past deals kind of lost me but I'm willing to bet it's foreshadowing to something coming down the pike. If so I always dig little hints stuff that doesn't become clear till later. Good stuff.

1+2=MV
MV comes in hot! Wapner, Fudgerunners … this one has all the hits. Especially “--I'm the articulate one--” Also liked 1 getting brow beat by 2 of Cakegate. Overall though just a good quick segment pushing this tag team mayhem going on right now. Which without this would have gone completely unrepresented on Uncut. This feud has alot going on so anytime anyone takes the time to single out their corner of it I think that just makes it easier to get into on the shows.

Lord of Mercy

TBizzle back in the place to be. Spooky as ever. Much like I said above cutting out more room in this big revolving angle and all in all hyping up the blow off. I also love the dialogue here. That creepy near backwards syntax. “Ask Those Who Violate. Ask the Second of their number.”

Use Your Delusion II
Nice bookend to the opening segment. As Angus goes to “run tell that.” Dane seems unphased by Kelly’s potential coup. And a little Cayle mention in there as well. Good segment, definitely raise the intrigue level.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD Arc Discussion/Feedback Thread - DEFtv 81 is live!

The Rundown:
The rundown is fun, week in and week out, i actually enjoy it. This show was no different in that regard, They mention Penn not being scheduled only to have him appear mere seconds later. The penn promo was ok. I was a big Penn fan when he was the SOHER and even immediately after, but this felt a little odd. I get that Penn has won a lot of matches in Defiance, but I never took him as a “tough guy” and it feels like thats what he’s trying to do here. I picture him as the smart, cunning, always one step ahead heel, and he came off much differently than that here. Also I hate the word “Fucking” in promos. I get it’s DEFIANCE and I get it’s edgy, but I think it only works with certain guys. If everyone says fuck, it loses it’s luster, and makes people sound dumber than they are. Penn uses it a bit usually so no big bad rub, but this promo just felt like a different character then I am used to almost. Dane makes the match for tonight, good use of the DEFIA-Tron.

Natas vs Kyo Ishida

Good back and forth match, very competitive with Ishida getting quite a bit of offense in including some near falls, all this before being decapitated twice. I wasn’t a fan of the knock out finish, I get Kyo is a NPC/Brazen guy and it hurts no one, but I don’t think it really helps anyone either. Natas is already the “big bad brawler dude” and comes off as tough, I think kicking the face in and dropping for a cover is no different and the only time a TKO works is if it means something in a big match, not on a tv opener. This was good otherwise, and the match was a fun read, just didn’t like the ending.

Rock Out with Your D Out.
LOL good short set up segment for the D’s single match tonight. Elise Ares won’t be ringside and Klein…. Well no idea what he’s doing besides Rocking out! Lol. fun stuff.

Fraud
JFK taking a little nappie poo backstage before his match. Gotta rest up! This was a fun segment, JFK goes onto explain why Natas doesn’t DESERVE to face JFK. Natas has beaten nobodies from Brazen week in and week out, and JFK will prove he’s better by…..beating a BRAZEN guy. LOL.

Triple Threat Match

This was a blast and a very good storytelling tool this week. We not only got to see a hell of a three way match, that I’ll admit was a little difficult to follow at points, but we got the return of MV2. The other Storm member makes an appearance as well and the feud is rocking. Elise meanwhile is the only tag partner to not make an appearance. Not sure how the referee doesn’t DQ the Storm in this one for the interference either, it was in clear view of the referee when MV1 gets pulled from the ring and brawls with a non match competitor. Still, I’m hype for the tag title match.

Business With The Boss

This is a classic deal. “Give me a non title match against the champion, and if I win, then give me the shot.” That said this came off a little weak. We haven’t seen much of Kelly recently and her coming back here and basically saying “This team hasn’t showed me anything yet, but sure let’s give them a shot because business” doesn’t really do it for me. I wanna see the guys in the team's personality come out. Cause right now the Bastards havea lot of good hype, but big shoes to fill, I don’t know if it’s the manager, or just the way it was set up here, but this came off a bit basic.

Peace Offerings:
Awe they didn’t break up youguiz! I was worried about that. TBH this was a little bit of a rehash from the last episode, I get why it’s here, but its probably unnecessary. This is too deep for a Tv show, especially since it’s the second time they’ve made up, even if the first time didn’t go swimmingly I thought we ended with an understanding. This feels like over explanation. For “Tonight” purposes the end bit worked in regards to Dane and impulse working the title match.

Hoffman vs Cole
Nice quick brawl here. Enjoyed Cole when he was in defmax last year so this was a nice “tv reunion” for him. Doesn’t take long for Hoffman to get the upper hand before the beheading. Not a fan of the Marty Scrull fingerpop, only cause we’ve also seen Murrr do this in DEFIANCE. (His match with Eric Dane maybe?). So seeing so many guys use one move that's super over on the indies currently kills the “effectiveness” of it. I’m sure the fingerpop is the new superkick. Hoffman comes off looking strong, especially since I listened to DEFCast prior to the show, and Hoffman was talked about heavily.

Message Received
LOVED THIS. Impulse was super focused in on his title match and getting ready, felt very authentic. Then reaper comes in and this one does NOT go over the top. It’s just enough physicality to peak my interest before he leaves Impulse with a challenge for the PPV. Good stuff. This was seg of the night so far and it’s not too lengthy.

JFK vs Bigsby
AMAZING. What a fun match. JFK had this thing won 3 ways to sunday only to jerk around and prolong the match for no reason other than cocky attitude LOL. Kendrix about to have the Kross in when Natas theme hits and he marches to the ring, only to NOT get involved (love that) and the Brazen character pins JFK clean in the ring. BEAUTIFUL. Loved this bit, can’t wait for the reactionary seg from JFK.

Say “Yes”
FUCK YES. This was perfect. The entire night was leading up to this. I like how the match was FORCED to be made by Natas, but JFK gets something out of it too, Natas will finally get his hands o Kendrix, Kendrix has the opportunity to get rid of Natas foreves. Obvs. Fantastic, I was edge of my seat for the whole bit.

A Spike and A Fork.
Love the set up for next week here, we get a good submission match out of it, and see Eric Dane laying in the violence once again. Very good back and forth, and a good way to put Bronson Box on his heels after Murray finds himself in a terrible position. Eric Dane with the save…. Never thought I would say that.

6 man tag.
THE CASH IS OUTSIDE! LOL I cried. This was a fun read, it went on a little longer than it probably had to but there was a ton of emotion in this “non match”. I’m glad this worked out this way and the bell never really sounded because it did a ton for the angle. Typically when I’m reading these segments I’ve been getting lost a bit with which reaper is where and doing what. Now that we’ve unmasked one of the three, I’ll admit, it was a bit easier to follow this show. Unfortunately BAF is taken care of quickly in the beginning and Scott Douglas is left to fend for himself, and that's really where this one came alive. I love that you didn’t write Douglas as a “Unstoppable, never say never, John Cena” type character. Instead he just used ring awareness, and cunningness to outsmart the reapers in the early going and thwart them trying to get in on the brawl with MDK and Douglas. Loved the suicide plancha spot and the setup was very good, It wasn’t telegraphed 15 moves before hand like Lucha wrestling is these days. I hate 6 man tags because they are laborious and hard to keep everyone involved. This was fantastic however, and turned my “ready to hate this” into “OMG whats happening next”.

This is It.
Michael didn’t do it!!!.... Oh this is something else…. Nice quick recap of the nights big action and the build up for the main event. This wasn’t needed but made for a nice buffer. I like it.

Main Event Fisting.
I hate the champion coming out first…Always… but I love heels striking before the bell. That helps. This is a lot of fun, I am enjoying the IN ring work of Curtis Penn a lot here. The slap from the manager, The choke on the ropes with the boot, all classic heel work. Little details make the world go. Not a fan of the multiple pin attempts back to back to back to back. I think after the second one we all knew the match was far from over. HOLYFUCKINSHIT. The title changes hands on DEFTV for the second consecutive time! Great way to close the show.

Congrats Pete, you deserve it buddy.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD Arc Discussion/Feedback Thread - DEFtv 81 is live!

HOW TO RUIN A GOOD MORNING
One document to fuck it all up. Quick segment but definitely heightens intrigue. What is Penn up to. She doesn’t think Dane’ll be happy but as we saw on uncut, she is planning something I would imagine he’d love either. Good cold open.

RUNDOWN

New champion’s coronation, so to speak. I do think, for a go home show, some of the normal card talk and last show recap/feud talk would have been good here. Beyond that, Angus’ creepy crush continues and Impulse babyfaces all the way out. The Codename Reaper build stuff is strong, calling first names Impulse seems to know who Reaper is. And of course, the former champ is here. This started off well enough but the Jordan/Lebron stuff, an argument which I’m familiar with and also could careless, just was rambly and danced around the point while repeating it too many times, if that makes sense. But I get what he was going for. Impulse’s cut dry response helps save it. Contract stuff, heel gets the rematch, tried and true. I dug the arm took it/keep it line. The cunt deal works for heat but seems unneeded the way this is already structured.

YOUR TIME IS OVER
“Listen, yeah!” I like this format. Nice break from the backstage “interviews” and still let’s the point get across. Kendrix is going for it on this one. Hateable heel with some delusion clearly but also making some valid and irrefutable points. Second trademark smirk of the night, for those counting. This has a very 80’s WCCW/Jimmy Crockett type build as a good bit of what Murrr is involved in does … but I dig that. Everything can’t be a backstory laden blood lust feud. I’m personally taking note! Sometimes you have to just do some wrestling shit, pepper in some shenanigans and build the heat! Which I think they have done here. It helps Kendrix is a great heel and also super entertaining. Natas is a brute and just hot headed enough to feed into JFK’s nonsense.

MVDueces v. KAZUSHI
First of all … Tag Team Orgy. Just live with that for a moment.

Also … “RIGHTFUL AND REGAL LORD of FANNYSHIRE” has this already been a thing and I skipped over it? Holy shit. That is something else, Paul the Bish! AND TrizzleBish on commentary … ah I wish this wasn’t a summary style show. Because if it’s heavy I’ll have to mention it. Even though I want ALL of it (like Cheesey Justin to the Cheese.) Very summarized. I dig it. Got away from it a little bit myself when my past tense was draw into question in backbeef but I think it works. Especially with a nice smattering of commentary to do the real work in the story telling. Great none match. Not to long but very engaging at the same time. MV#1 showing a little bit of bloodlust! Layers, like a muthfucka. Bullheaded MV2 with no heart and the gentlemanly MV#1 in public all HH Gregg … push ‘em and he is HH Holmes.

Thank God That Hollywood Douche Is Dead
There are some pretty funny lines in this. Not to mention the - The D jokes. Beyond the humor this felt long and confusing… but I did keep reading so there is that. Especially toward the end it seemed a little mirandering to end with the youtube video set up. I’m interested where that is going and why PCP would trust The Bastards entourage.

I'M GONNA TAKE IT ALL AWAY
Smirk three! Although legendary with a high price tag rather than trademark. Being newish around here I definitely appreciate the little character moments from Dane. Gives me a better understanding of who he is, these days at least. Penn’s wince at the hooch was a nice touch and the pouring it out was a nice dick move. Outside of that Penn didn’t feel as effective as much as he felt penchant in the face of too tired to actually be bothered boss.

EQUALIZER
Smirks! We’re at four. No trademark nor legendary. I had to look up guffaw. That does not look like it should be a word, in English atleast. But I’ll be damned. This segment is super interesting though, they seem to be jokey and bonded at the top and it descends into name calling and bickering as devilish Dane attempts to pry the wings off of Cayle. And then back again to a sense of understanding … browbeaten understanding but still. Dragonskin. Was that the passing of the ceremonial fork?

PCP vs. THE BASTARD SONS OF WRESTLING

Smirk Count! I was hoping that segment would lead to another that would make it make more sense than what I assumed it was going to be. Which my assumption and currently held thought was it was away for Bastards to know PCP’s weaknesses? Not talking shit here I honestly just didn’t get it. From my understanding it just felt extremely thinly veiled at best. The match and it’s finish were fine. Makes sense, Bastards get a title shot with PCP being completely buried. The MV/Storm brawl spilling out worked well for that added extra chaos. All that being said I had a hard time reading this match. I doubled back a lot trying to make sure I didn’t miss anything. I don’t know what a Deathrow Championship is. (Maybe I should, idk.) My biggest issue is with Angus saying a line something like that’s how you get your heat. A little too inside baseball for TV, I think. I know kayfabe is dead and all but not on TV. Mostly. Overall though, big go home match for the Tag Team Melee Arc and now PCP have something to prove. Bastards want the titles. And MV’s and the Storm want to murder each other, which has the most heat. PPV match should be a blow out.

NO MORE WORDS
The Natas segment almost pulls a heartstring… if you didn’t know he was capable of near legal murder in the ropes. Just a personal preference I think being pre-recorded studio segments maybe these could have been put a little closer together and would hold a touch more weight. That being said, they are fine where the are and this more so than the first really sells the stakes at hand. Natas is a force to be reckoned with but Kendrix is a pretty decent hand and more importantly super fucking sneaky. I’m sure this match will be all the pages and chocked full of awesome.

CAYLE MURRAY vs. REINHARDT HOFFMAN/THE LAST STRIKE
Great match! Competitive and entertaining. I almost wish the NO ROPES thing came out of this rather than being announced earlier. And really sells the potential of Cayle going to the darkside. Is a submission match no DQ, though? Or did I miss something. Wouldn’t the rope be a foreign object? Nevermind, I did. Slater told to be loose with rules. Subtle, didn’t click the first time. Strike that other stuff. But I’m not erasing it. So, there's that. Anyway … Wait a minute!

Nice tease on the new gear. Box is just fantastic. I pop for “fookin’” alone. Then the fork; a little telegraphed given the night but … still a big moment. Almost as if to say put the fork in Box he is done because Cayle has gone to the darkside. Next Cayle seg has to be titled “Beyond the Cayle”

MAIN EVENT
“Seriously, Keebs… I’m ready to just go home.” A Cally and Katz cat fight! And Hector goes on the list. This one breezed by and I got a little caught up in it. Impulse tapped? Holy shit. Penn does the Penn thing and the clearly drunk by now boss comes out! PPV title match? Big ending. Nice touch with the feed cutting before the full good night. DEFRoad, lets go!
