Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - UNCUT #1 IS LIVE!

One thing I'm going to start doing with UNCUT is requiring people to inform me when their segment takes place. What I mean is, there is a summary box that you can fill in with notes about the segment. This is more so that I can properly order the segments for UNCUT chronologically.

What I need to know is... Will the segment be happening...

"During" - This means the segment is an unseen bit that didn't air on DEFtv.

"After" - This means directly after the show, DEFtv has gone off the air.

"Off Day" - Meant for segments like the Frank/Harmony one where it was clearly a day or more after DEFtv.

You can also feel free to give me additional information along with those terms. Basically whatever helps me put the segments for UNCUT into an order that doesn't seem so random.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - UNCUT #1 IS LIVE!

Having some swanky "During," "After," "Off day" graphics to include on the shows themselves would be neat. The "Uncut" graphic itself is great.

A few other points of clarity:

1. I'm more than happy to explain anything that doesn't make sense in the story I'm telling with LT, even if it's a seemingly throwaway Tyler Rayne reference (which don't really happen outside of this show, although Murrr wants me to troll you with them now ). There are things at work that have been building for awhile, and I know you won't know what they all are since you're new to DEF. Ask if you're interested, though. I won't tell you to eff off and go read three arcs worth of shows leading up to this point in order to understand things.

Regarding the "box" thing with Keyes, I highly suggest you read a segment called "Merry Keyesmas." You can find it here: http://defiancewrestling.com/results/109#1719

2. I thought we made it clear up front that the LT seg happened after the Box post-main event dealings. If that wasn't clear then it was a shortcoming on our part.

3. I will hopefully have some time to read the show later today and also provide feedback in case I'm not able to make it for the DEFcast on Friday.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - UNCUT #1 IS LIVE!

See, I was under the impression that the timing for this was meant to be before the next show lineup was announced, in story.

We had the run sheet, but in story, this was meant to be before that Dan Ryan v. Keyes match was announced. In fact, that's how I was approached tow rite a segment in the first place. "Write a segment to set up Ryan v. Keyes." So I wrote this in tone expecting to write a news post after it went live saying Kelly Evans has booked Dan Ryan v. Keyes on DEFtv #62.

So we'll need to make sure we're all clear on what we're doing with Uncut.

As for understanding how Dan Ryan is acting, I just wrote a bunch in skype chat about it. I think it would be useful for us to just chat about what makes him tick, since his personality is now perplexing you two shows in a row. :)

Jesus fucking Christ.

You people are thinking too hard.

You're making DEF feel like UTA.

Miss me with that bullshit.

Segments on UNCUT can be whatever you want.

They can be something that happened during the show, but went unaired on DEFtv. (this is mostly just for the sake of it being an option... but an example of it: the Dusty/FDJ/Natas segment from #61).

They can be something that happened after the show went off the air, but everyone is still at the building. (ex: almost everything that was posted).

They can be something that happened at the building, but during the "days off" (ex: FDJ and Harmony).

They be something that happened away from the building entirely (ex: the ACX segment. another example would be the Lindz idea of the Murray's, Boxer, FDJ, etc doing a Highland Games set of segments).

There's lots of examples, lots of potential ways do things with this show.

But yeah, in terms of general time frame, it IS typically anything that happens between two episodes of DEFtv. So this past UNCUT was anything that happened with our characters that people felt like writing between #61 and #62.

I'm just asking for some notes (during, after, day off) so that I can put the segments in an order that makes sense, rather than it looking completely random and jumping around back and forth in time. Just me being nitpicky is all.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #61 IS LIVE!

62 Feedback with 33% less thought!

Watch Me Reign: Dan Ryan is in the ring and the newly minted FIST dishes on Lindsay Troy and cuts a scathing promo of Eugene Dewey that was so spot on it hurt. Good stuff to start this one off.

Rundown: Loved the chat banter making into the show - always a fan of that. DEF: Scotland gets a mention and I get a laugh.

Carver/Box: Evan kind of took the lead for an outline and I worked with that. Both did some edits. Thought it did a good job of telling the story. It put over Boxer being pissed. It put over Carver being a HOSS. It was short and brutal, setting up those Onslaught matches we’ve been discussing. Really enjoyed working on this.

Charity Work: Do you even market, bro? Unlikely really hammering home this gimmick and I’m loving it. Good job Mikey. I like the development even more in DEF. Andy Sharp seems a bit scatter brained in this feud though, which I can understand as IC a lot is on his plate. I think I can see where this MAY be heading.

Here Little Piggy: Backstage, anywhere, it doesn’t matter. This segment clearly takes place in the women’s restroom. Please wash your hands. Eric Dane inflicting pain urging Bobby Dean to get a move on feels so real. Justin is that really what you do to Bobby to motivate him? Bobby show us on the doll where he touched you!

Hunter/Donovan: I almost DON’T wanna read this because I kind of assume I already know the ending. Wish someone could summarize it for me! I am Jack’s DEF debut. And Hunter is trying to bring in the chair, he can’t. Classic gag but super effective for a cheesey character like Hunter. Kind of almost expected Donovan to not give a shit and let it be a streetfight. The word fuckery was used in a match, surely there’s something better to be used there. Short and BOOM Jake wins it.

Coup: Good segment, enjoyed how stoic Impulse seems. Interested to see what Pete can do with a character who isn’t a 17 year old.

Challenge Accepted: A bit of history in this one that I didn’t know. Sam is going to take on the God Beast again. Should be a win for all involved as Horry wants to get physical, Olivia Newton John style.

Penn/LAR: Good face stuff to start as LAR is starting to explain why he’s here/what he told his son and the bastard that is Curtis Penn rushes to interrupt. Further cementing Penn’s spot as someone you should hate to even mention. Good psychology here as Penn works the injured arm of LAR, something that I’m sure will follow Jonno’s Scott around for a while. This one works similar to the Carver/Box match. No one really loses anything. Penn continues being an asshole, on a roll. And LAR has a good debut.

The Talking Plant: And we’re hearing from the legal midget! One Lance Warner mention failed to get bolded, make sure to glance over the stuff a second-third time if need be. Jack Hunter gets submitted backstage as this one continues this strange little feud. Full pun intended.

Have I Proven Myself: There’s just something about Harmony that isn’t clicking with me yet, and it could be because I’m not familiar at all with the character. But in the what four shows I’ve read cover to cover I feel like I’ve gotten almost NO characterization from her. I know she’s a girl, and she’s the SoHer Champion, that’s really it. I want a bit more. Liked Jake jumping on her with the “I’ve been here doing it since before you came” stuff. Really good. Harmony just routinely comes off as one of those bad ass faces we’ve critiqued before. The whole “until then you don’t get shit” isn’t even necessary.

Mushi vs. Fatass: Mushi has the most difficult name in Defiance. Convinced. Knew what the outcome would be per being BAEs with Murr, but still a good one. Mushi comes off strong in his redebut. Clear building point towards the match with Sam and Fatass’ downfall story surgers forward as well. This week is the best Defiance show I’ve read since coming in, save the PPV.

Gears: Got to read this in Ben and I’s doc. Good segment. Moves forward all relevant Keyes activities for the night.

Pop Culture vs. Louisiana: Glad the tag divison is getting going. Good one here. Quickie of a match but that’s all that was needed. The D is a riot. Looking forward to this really taking off/hitting it’s stride.

Not Going Away: Great segment. Heels being heels, faces being stand up guys. Ensuing rumble. Really awesome.

Mikey vs. Andy Murray: A test of BAEship. Mikey makes it rain, hey James and Murr ruin this again why don’t ya! Good match, tad on the long side but I expect that kind of thing from Murr. A few lines of dialogue could’ve made me feel better about the length.

The Point: Wrote this. Hope it worked.

Hero: The Murray Brothers and Eric Dane continued. Like this segment a lot. Great phrasing throughout. Well done.

SOHER 1: Why were random moves all bolded? Is that a thing? Should I start doing that? Good match, sold the Omega stuff well I thought. Andy Sharp wins.

Pound: Another good Dane segment as Andy Murray tries to confront the BAUSSSSSman. Not having it. The numbers game gets played. Good way to deny the hero his chance for revenge, only to keep the thing hot.

Fame: MINT SAUCE! Good segment, was wondering when these forces would interact.

Dewey vs. Dean: I don’t particularly care about this match going in. Hell of a spot with the ending, lots of strength. Dewey vs. Ryan should be brutal.

What’s the Deal: If this guessing game with Omega doesn’t lead to something awesome I’ll be highly disappointed. It’s got a lot of mystery right now. Do not mess it up. Good seg to continue this storyline, for sure.

FIST: Great shine for Keyes. Dan Ryan is an academic and my man, Van, ends the night. What a write up. Brunk is awesome.

Good show. Dug it.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #61 IS LIVE!

Watch Me Reign
Short, good promo from Dan Ryan to open the show, really felt the power in Ryan's words with this one. I enjoyed it more than with his last interaction with Eugene and Henry Keyes in earlier shows, not because it was more face than those interactions, but because this felt . . . honestly, it just felt better. Can't really explain it honestly.

The Rundown
Not much to say other than cool to see all the matches get about equal treatment in the commentator banter.

Van Carver vs Box
Well how about a brutal match to open the show; glad this one opened instead of the Donovan/Hunter match. Felt Box gave Carver the same veteran treatment Walker gave Trebol at Def #61. Van Carver looked strong and then made Box look murderous. Great match.

Charity Work
Aha love the Mikey Unlikely stuff thus far. "Do you even market bro?" elicited the first chuckle from me for the show. Andy Sharp is becoming one of my favorite good guys here in DEF as well because he's so genuine. I'm enjoying watching this feud develop.

This Little Piggy
I really enjoy the way Justin structures his segments, really draws you in and makes Eric Dane this powerful figure. Throw in scared Bobby Dean and we got ourselves an all-around entertaining segment. Really makes me feel for Bobby Dean and adds an extra layer to the character.

Jake Donovan vs Jack Hunter
Very short match, kind of hoped for a little more offense for Hunter, but whatever. If anyone is going to get jobbed here, it'll be him.

Coup
First segment with Kelly Evans in the show and it was a interesting one. Not much to say other than I'm interested in seeing where Impulse goes first.

Challenge Accepted

Really looking forward to this upcoming match. Seems there is history that I wasn't aware of--glad Sam have us this newbies and maybe the veterans who may have overlooked it--but in the whole scheme of things, the history won't do much for the feud. The end match, though, will be brutal and awesome.

Curtis Penn vs LAR
The Scotsmen tries to introduce himself to the crowd and Penn pisses on it; nice little touch that makes me dislike the Penn character more. I've noticed a little more dialogue in the matches, kinda curious if an update happened that I overlooked. Overall solid match and left LAR in a good spot despite the loss.

The Talking Plant
Wrote this, hope y'all enjoyed.

Have I Proven Myself?

Mixed opinions on this segment. Wasn't really of the fan of Zane's muttering, really generalized the character and put me off with what Harmony had to say as well; Zane could've been silent and I wouldn't have been hurt at all. Donovan's stuff was strong, fire puns were cheesy, but whatever

Mushigihara vs Jason Natas
Straightforward match that served the purpose for Mushi. Natas lacked the same fire and pyschology this week that he had with Trinidad, but the loss can still be used in his favor in future segments, so won't slight it too much.

Gears of the Universe
Good little promo to hype the Dan Ryan match. Not much to say.

PCP vs Louisiana Bulldogs
Doesn't Angus run BRAZEN; he would know the Bulldogs if that was the case, but that's nitpicky. Strong debut for PCP, would've liked at least for this match that the named moves be described. I understand wanting to get them showcased, but also having them known without having to open a new tab would be nice, at least in the beginning. Still, enjoyed this.

Not Going Away
Enjoyed this HOSS segment with a little beatdown to close it. I feel like we're building up to the Trinidad/Griffin match, which I think will be a hell of a match. Interest = peaked

Mikey Unlikely vs Andy Murray
I was almost hoping Murr would give the upset win to Unlikely, but I think it fits the character better if he lost in his debut. Lots of submissions in this show thus far. Not much to say on this one.

The Point, Get to It
Another confrontational segment. We get some context, which is nice. I think this will be an interesting showdown when it occurs (in a legal match, of course)

Don't be a Hero
Eh, wasn't completely sold on this one. Being from UTA, I kind of understand the fork reference, but I think blood feud could've been built between Dane and Andy without a Walking Dead-esque scene.

Southern Heritage #1 Contender
Best match of the night in my opinion. Unlike Angus, I like me some flippydos. Andy Sharp has to stellar matches two shows in a row and comes out big with this. Meanwhile, the Omega/Walker storyline is further. All-around good match.

Pound of Flesh
See statement above. I think this will be a good match, but the build-up this week didn't float my boat.

Fame, You Devil, is Infectious

Enjoyable little segment, liked the Leo comment, really adds to that real-world immersion that I often do with my character. Good stuff should come from this interaction for sure.

Eugene Dewey vs Bobby DeanSolid match, good psychology. The Bobby Dean character wasn't big in-ring when I was with UTA, so this is one of my first experiences with the character wrestling and I enjoyed it.

What's the Deal
Totally expecting something huge with the promise to Omega, but it does make sense that it is more in line with signing him to Def; my guess is a shot at the FIST of Defiance, but not entirely sure.

What you do
Very short segment that basically highlights the psychology to set up the upcoming match.

Dan Ryan vs Henry Keyes
Which was simple, but effective. This was a match where everyone knew the overall outcome, but the specific end was special and tied in with Dewey's earlier antics. I approve.

Carver, because he played the part of rag doll for Box, gets to close the show by beating up Keyes. It would've been a great ending if show had closed with Ryan celebrating with Carver beating up Henry behind him in the shot. Really highlight the dynamic of Defiance.

---

Overall an enjoyable read. Didn't quite have the power that Def #61 had for me, but still, a great effort from all involved.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #61 IS LIVE!

Reign- Good segment to kick the show off, I remember watching wrestling weekly’s growing up and they almost always started with an In Ring, so this is much to that effect. Dan Ryan is bringing home the point that a new era has begun in DEF, and He is heading it. As far as Lindsey Troy goes… well He’s given her as much time of day as she has given him. Touched multiple points, played hype man for later matches, and got the crowd going, perfect open.

Rundown - That time and space line LOL. The embassy! If these scots aren't in a stable in 3 months, we all riot. The intro was vergy good, no signs this week kinda sucked but otherwise this was stellar. Loved the build up for literally everything happening on the show. Good stuff. Angus is my fav.

Carver vs Box: First off, why do both guys have drugs in their mouths? “Salvia flies out both of their mouths as they have a furious exchange with one another” Clearly this was supposed to be saliva, but the drug reference is better for me lol. This match was pretty stellar. You kind of had an idea of how Carver would fight before he even got in the ring (which means Jason did his job with a very defined character). I loved the rub Carver gets before being Decimated as he should by Bronson Box. Well done getting over with a loss and Box continuing his brutality.

Charity Work - Wrote with Seth, hope you enjoyed.

Piggy- YES! HAHAHAHAHA Terrific segment perfectly showing the incredibly opposite dynamic that Bobby Dean brings to Eric Dane. This is so oddfellas yet so perfect. Dane making Dean into his henchman and watching Bobbie resist is terrific. Looking forward to what happens later. Hilarious and serious seg.

Donavan vs Hack Junter - Good quick match. Jack Hunter should most def be a jobber, but a hilarious one! Its odd reading jake vs jack, but thats not something you can help in this situation. Good stuff all around. Donavan gets a dominant win, and Hunter gets cartwheeels.

Coup - Good segment here for Impulse and Calico. Some good background information here for those of us not familiar with the character (raises hand). Interesting to see how Peta develops this. Curtis Penn is a tall order for your first match in DEF. Should be very good.

Challenge Accepted - Sam Horry with a very serious promo here on Mushi. He accepts the challenge and tells us the backstory, great thing to do for all the N00WBs and DWeebs in the crowd. Enjoyed this one very much. I like Horry, he comes off as a legitimate athlete and his writing since Ive been here has been some of the most consistent in character stuff.

Penn vs LAR - TERRIFIC opening to this match with the mic work. LAR immediately involved and showing his facey-ness. Being familiar with the character this has a “Feell Good Story” in it that is plain to see. Penn cuts him off, and slaps him before the match even begins. Thats fine because LAR comes out on fire at the ring of the bell. I can definitely tell Jonno wrote this match lol. The style is still much in the way UTAH was. Maybe a bit TOO descriptive with some moves, I felt like I was reading “He takes his right arm, wraps it around his opponents left shoulder. He pulls upward and flips his opponent to the mat, driving him to his back…” where I could have read “Hiptoss!” And had the same effect, This will prob come with time on the dif style. No big deal. Overall it was a great match, really pulling for LAR, but no luck.

The Talking Plant - Cool segment between Hunter and Trebol. This is a feud(?) that will be hilarious and will do well to get Trebol over. Hunter is redic. And passing out to a leg hold makes it all the more so. Hilarious.

Proven - This one was ok. Last show we saw Harmony tell Donovan to go earn it. This show he beats Jack Hunter, and goes back to see what Harmony has to say about it. Once again Harmony diminishes anything accomplished by Donovan and says try again. I liked it, I liked it ever more after reading last week's segment for reference, but I will say that the felt almost TOO similar to the last one. I am def getting behind the angle however.

Satan vs Mushi- Enjoyed this one over the last Natas match. The ending was really good, and I am back on the Natas train after being Depressed by him a few weeks ago. I hope we get a follow up seg here, but this match was a good one. Mushi gets his first win back on the main roster of DEF.

Universe - A very odd segment by Henry Keyes. He continues his stuff with Carver, using the Plague Doctor to help him confirm something or another (indentity). Hypes his main event match at the end of the evening. Good stuff.

PCP vs TLB - Loved the opening commentary to this, very clever. Quick match to get PCP over as newcomers and it goes well! They win their debut, and then the D quickly explains to the crowd that he was denied Mic time. What a travesty!!!!! Enjoyed this tag team, and looking forward to working with them.

Not Going Away- Woah, this one could be a fucking war. This one feels like a real deal. This is the way old wrestling used to be where you actually BELIEVED they wanted to fight. Beautiful segment gentleman, the heat is unbearable ;)

Miley Unsmiley vs Andy Murrrphisto - Wrote this with Murrr, hope you enjoyed. It’s a lot of fun trying to write Mikey without any real wrestling moves. Murrr came up with a great finish for Mikey's first match.

The Point - You could kind of see this coming last week when they revealed who Carver was related to. Now Keyes goes a step further and confronts him about his family's past. Carver doesn't want to hear it. In fact, he wants Keyes to stay away.

Hero - Very good segment. Cayle is found in a pool of his own blood, very hurt indeed. Andy helps his brother out before storming out to find the OBVIOUS culprit or at least mastermind of the crime Eric Dane. Excitement~!

#1SOHER#1 - That dropkick from the turnbuckle to the outside <3 love spots like that. Very very good match, Very evenly done throughout. Loved all the big spots, and could actually feel as if I was actually watching it as it was super fluid. Great stuff. Andy Sharp New Nurmbr orne corntender. ERMERGERD.

Pounds- God I love this fucking angle. Great follow up to the previous seg, and Eric Dane standing full bore behind a DEFSec wall. He’s protected after handing out the beating of a lifetime to Cayle. Dane warned the Murrrrs not to be Heros… looks like they don't listen too well.

Fame - Tom and Billys seg, I had a few lines in it but these boys put in the work. Its going to be a blast to explore this strange friendship/using/fanboy relationship between PCP and Mikey Unlikely. Stay Tuned. This team is hilarious and the quotes have already begun. “Whatever Bollywood is!” Ha!

Dean vs Gene. - Really liked this match. Been a big Eugene fan since I got here, and the heel work he does. This match went very well for both guys. Bobby Dean got about 100% more offense than expected and Dewey makes a statement by powerbombing the biggest guy on the roster around the waist. Very well done, Almost wish I would have seen Dane tho.

Whats the Deal - Ty Walker storms into the bosses office and demands answers. He doesnt get the reception he expected and after a bit of Banter we find out that Ty wants to knw what the fuck is going on with Omega. Whats the deal!? Enjoyed it. Ty Walker is both the “grizzled veteran” feel as well as athletic and influential. I love it.

Bouncin- Dan Ryan has a few choice words for Euge following his match. Nice hype seg.

Da Fist!- Very good very technical based match. Im not quite sure what to make of Henry Keyes. He seems like a face, but he’s super weird so I dont know how to take him! Enjoyed the referee work and referencing. Very realistic. Dan Ryan retains in a very good match, Even sending a message back to Eugene Dewey. Carver comes back at the end and attacks Keyes. This felt a little out of place. No offense to Jason, but a newcomer attacking someone after a main event title match to end a show? Not sure, but it works for their feud.

Great show all around. DEF shows are so much fun to read. Great work everyone 1021/1651 Bananas. How did BR ellis win over Xander Hayes tho? (jk)

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #61 IS LIVE!

Watch Me Reign

Classic Dan Ryan. He pops the crowd and says the heel things, but with such upfront "I'm telling the truth"-ness that he earns all the respect. He's a classic tough guy babyface wrapped up in a heel attitude - this is something you can't be taught, you just need to get there.

The Rundown

Always effective - gives us what we're gonna see, gives the commentators a chance to get themselves over while getting the wrestlers we're gonna see tonight over. More feds should do this.

Bronson Box vs. Van Carver

First line from Angus - "I know Van has got this “The Murder Machine” nickname..." just reads awkward to me. Feels like it should be "I know Van has got this nickname, The Murder Machine," but that's minor. Definitely a hot opener; it puts Van Carver over as a threat who needs some polish while furthering Bronson's obsession with Lindz and keeping him strong. My only other criticism is that we're never actually told what was the finish - no bell ringing, no nothing. I assume Bronson was disqualified, but since he didn't actually hit Carver on the turnbuckle it might've been a no contest.

Charity Work

Mikey is such a shallow ass, he's a perfect character with a perfectly annoyed opponent. Can't wait to see this one.

This Little Piggy

I enjoyed Dane and Bobby's interactions in Utah and expect to continue doing so here. The smile description is perfect, it reminds me of Jack Nicholson smiling; it's never a good thing. But it does give Bobby his appropriate motivation.

JACK HUNTER vs. Jake Donovan

Comedy gold every time. The street signs coupled with "This is not a street fight" made me actually laugh out loud on a conference call. Good thing I was muted. Exactly what it needed to be.

Coup

Mine. Could've just as easily been posted as "The RPs that I've been doing, part 3," but I wanted to get myself started on acclimating myself to the DEF show format.

Challenge Accepted

Dragon's Lair dojo in Queens, NYC... we may need to talk about cross-world-building. Nice little build to a match.

Curtis Penn vs. LAR

Before I even read this, I'm very interested in seeing Jonno's first attempt at writing a match in this style. LAR picks up right where he left off as the consummate good guy, communing with the fans. Curtis Penn, on the flipside... great heat getter, interrupting LAR's mic spot with his entrance. However, it's "pity party" - a "pitty party" I assume involves adorable dogs. The match itself was a good read and highlighted everything that should be about the wrestlers - LAR as the idealistic rookie and Penn as the asshole. Nice callback on the submission win, too - LAR's lack of submission in Utah is what gave him his initial injury. Great intro to the character.

The Talking Plant

"by one Curtis Penn" - the word 'one' is unnecessary. Loved the zoom out to show Trebol standing there. That's how you sell a guy's height. But I'm a little tired of hearing about it - you heard about Rey Misterio's "size" but never, specifically, his height. It could turn Trebol into a gimmick - the short guy - instead of a wrestler with killer instinct who just so happens to be shorter than his opponents. It didn't happen here but I don't want it to happen at all.

Have I Proven Myself?

Yes, Harmony... yes you have. To the point that I didn't like this segment. Donovan was the star of the show here, with Harmony defending herself. Since Harmony has beaten Donovan before (and said it here), I feel like it would've been more impactful to have Harmony challenge Donovan to prove he deserved a shot at her title. Instead, it seemed to me that Donovan deserved a shot by right of being Jake Donovan, and it was up to Harmony to prove that he hadn't yet. If Donovan is claiming title shot status with a win over Jack Hunter, he's clearly got a superiority complex and I feel like it would've been more effective if Harmony had shut him down, with Donovan to exact his humiliated revenge later.

Mushigihara vs Jason Natas

Fast and to the point. Mushigihara makes a statement. Natas is going to explode on someone before Christmas when they spell his name inside out.

Gears of the Universe

Standard promo, but effective. Gets into Keyes' head and gives us his motivations.

Pop Culture Phenoms vs. Louisiana Bulldogs

Nice way to get some heat - beat up on some kids from BRAZEN as they're trying to make a mark. Cheap heat, sure - but wildly effective.

Not Going Away

This is the role of a manager. You take a big guy like Trinidad, and it doesn't really suit him to be gabby on the mic - his mouthpiece does the talking for him. You don't see that enough in wrestling. Dusty and FDJ's interruption made it all the better, the hero squaring off with the mouthpiece is classic storytelling. The ambush by the SMB's was classic heel posturing, but I didn't like Angel Trinidad getting involved. He seems to me like a WMD in Keeling's employ - use as a last resort. I would've loved to have seen Keeling stomp on Dusty and FDJ like a classic chickenshit heel, too - Angel should have been held back until/unless Dusty and FDJ started to fight back and get the upper hand, then he flattens them both and retains his air of power. Which can be broken in the ring of course, but this is cutscene invincibility.

Miiikey vs Murrray

Mikey remains king of the cheap heat. Nice little match where Murray gets the reversal victory. The real winner here is showing off both guys' personalities to a T.

The Point, Get To It

Keyes is creepy.

Don't Be A Hero

Tasty. Cayle and Andy vs. Eric Dane will be fun, especially whenever Dane reveals some type of partner.

Sharp vs. Ty

Really nice. Probably my pick for match of the night. Like Mikey said, fluid from start to finish. Also a huge fan of the top rope dropkick.

Pound of Flesh

This one is boiling already... the payoff is going to be huge.

Fame, you devil, is infectious

Pop Culture Phenoms, the ride. In 4D! It's a natural pairing, the PCP with Mikey. I can see them getting annoying and the Bruvs taking them to task. LOL'd at the request for 'more mint sauce.'

Dewey vs. Dean

About as we expected it to go, with Bobby nauseous and Dewey fired up. Would've loved to have seen Bobby, green around the gills, actually spew when he landed on the mat but that's just the scatalogical part of me. Nice match.

What's the Deal?

Love the double entendres. The ease of conversation between Ty and Evans is one of my favorite things about DEF so far. In the middle though, there is a line - "The mutual understanding allows the tension between them to break. Walker" - is there supposed to be something else there? Regardless, this lets Omega be part of things without being in the segment.

What you do... bounces off me

Short and sweet. Dan Ryan clearly is unsettled by Eugene Dewey but desperately wants all of us to think he isn't.

Dan Ryan vs. Henry Keyes

Dominant win by the Champ, with the run - in from Van Carver after the fact. I like this because it gets a few stories over at once - but if I was writing it I probably would've had Van Carver come out before the finish and attack Keyes, costing him the match either directly, or by innuendo. Still puts Dan Ryan over as a world beater and gives some better heat between Van Carver and Henry Keyes; instead of "You attacked me," it's "You cost me the title." Just my two cents again.

Good show. Good showing by all.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #61 IS LIVE!

Watch Me Reign
Strooooooooong promo. Liked that the LT situation was addressed right off the bat, as I was kind of expecting that last week. Loved the coldness of his logic with that “flesh and blood makes you weak.” What makes Dan Ryan stick-out for me is the fact that he always sounds like he’s right. Like, the guy could be telling me that Hitler was a pretty swell dude and I’d likely believe him. Homerun seg.

Rundown
Awww, no signs? Typically good DEFIANCE rundown. Popped for the “Braveheart XL” and “Scottish embassy” stuffs.

Bronson Box vs. Van Carver
Jason told me that he and Evan had prepared a four-page planning doc for this match, so I was pumped to read it. Really good match and a great hot opener. After the interaction on UNCUT, this very much felt like Box coming out to teach the rookie a lesson, only to leave with some food for thought. Exploder Suplex spot was hawt and I love that Box had to smash Marie Van Carver with multiple Bombasto Bombs to kill the shit out of him. I’m scared of both of these men. Real talk.

Charity Work
There are only so many times I can write “I really like Mikey being a smarmy little cunt,” but I really like Mikey being a smarmy little cunt. Really good contrast between these two, and I liked the assertiveness from Sharp this week. Even the nice guy has a breaking point and it’s gonna be satisfying as hell when Andy finally gets one over on Hollywood McFuckass.

This Little Piggy
LOL. What a duo. It was cool seeing Bobby “level-up” and go all serious in Utah, but I think this version of the double-act is much more entertaining. Little bit of tough love from the heartless Tin Man to whip the Cowardly Lion into actually wrestling later on. This was note perfect.

Jack Hunter vs. Jake Donovan
Wrote this with Blue.

Coup
Feels weird that Kelly hasn’t been in four segments already :p. Man, I really like Impulse already. This run is my first real experience of the character so while I’m really late to the party, I already find the guy very very likeable. He’s chill. He’s not-at-all thirsty or annoyingly over-enthusiastic, and I appreciate that in a game where babyfaces are usually either doe-eyed “gee shucks” types or heelish Stone Cold expys. Great start, Peta.

Challenge Accepted
Nice continuation from 61. Enjoyed the little HNB/Philosopher Kings rundown: stuff like that really helps fill in the blanks for newer readers like myself. The last time I read Sam he came-off kinda dickish: no real troubles here, just a guy who’s very confident in his abilities. Solid.

Curtis Penn vs. LAR
I’m kinda new to LAR. Even though we come from the same place, that character was on the way out as I was coming in. Great babyface words to open. Strong heeling from Penn on the interruption. LAR looks strong in calling for the referee, but maintains his face-ness by not striking until the bell rings. Good match, and Penn going after the bad arm is storytelling 101.

The Talking Plant
Greg wrote this with me.

Have I Proven Myself?
I’m still feeling a pretty strong disconnect with Harmony. She’s very snappy and cold with people, and I’m not convinced that it’s warranted to this extent. I get that Jake’s an unlikeable dude and interrupting with a fireball is pretty insane, but she just runs the dude down. “You don’t get handed it: you earn it” is a solid approach, but I feel like the delivery’s just a little bit too forceful here. I feel like I’ve more reason to root for the heel here rather than the babyface, as Jake’s the one being insulted and verbally dismantled each week.

Jason Natas vs. Mushigihara
I wrote this with Rob.

Gears of the Universe
I could read a twelve-page segment in which Henry Keyes talks about houseplants and still be entertained. This dude brings his own goddamn plague doctor to the show, FFS. Amazing. Content was textbook, but the execution was delicious.

Pop Culture Phenoms vs. The Louisiana Bulldogs
Good match. Solid way to debut that never really fails, but never really feels like more than “okay, these guys are here now.” Which is totally fine, of course. The mic spot at the end was brilliant especially with the way it just nonchalantly faded away.

Not Going Away
Seth’s just an excellent character writer, and I love the way that Keeling came-in and just put Trinidad the fuck over right away. Dusty’s such a great straight-talker to contrast with Keeling’s hypeman tendencies and bloody Frank still cracks me up. SMB, of course, run-in and beat the snot out of the good guys. Textbook storytelling delivered expertly by two wonderful handlers.

Mikey Unlikely vs. Andy Murray
I wrote this with Mikey.

The Point, Get To It
Simple, effective progression. I get the feeling that Henry is gonna get his hands burned for all this meddling sooner rather than later. The segment gave me just enough info to move things forward without splurging everything at once, which is pretty much exactly what I look for on the second show of the arc.

Don’t Be A Hero
I wrote this with Juicy J.

Southern Heritage #1 Contender
Great match. Super-easy read. Good flow. A near-perfect encapsulation of the DEFIANCE summary style. I took a few notes here.

Pound of Flesh
I wrote this with Juice Tin.

Fame, You Devil, Is Infectious
Caught a couple of past/present tense mix-ups in this one. These guys are already a fucking riot and I loved them fanboying all over the place as soon as they caught glimpse of Mikey. It’s fun to mock Hollywood McFuckass, but hearing The D and Elise recite their resumes makes him seem like Morgan fucking Freeman. Really nice start to this little alliance. Look forwarding to seeing it grow.

Eugene Dewey vs. Bobby Dean
Love the continuity with Bobby coming down to the ring all kinds of messed-up. Another good match that advances both stories.

What’s The Deal?
Omega gains so much from this segment without even appearing in the damn thing, which says a lot. I’m now really eager to discover Omega’s motivations and learn more about the deal we learned about a couple weeks ago. Kelly and Ty’s interactions are written very endearingly and they’re always a pleasure to read.

What You Do… Bounces Off Of Me
More fire from Dan Ryan in a nice, snappy little segment. Getting the impression that he’s about to summon some evil to take care of Eugene, who he’s now starting to see as a bigger threat than he’d initially thought.

FIST of DEFIANCE
Nice main. Ryan comes out of it looking super good, but I don’t think Keyes loses anything in defeat. He showed enough fire throughout to gain in the long-run, which is all you can really ask for. Loved the post-match. Having Van attack post-match rather than during it means Dan still gets his legit win, but Carver gets his big moment too. This is a bigger moment for Carver, in fact, because the show goes off the air with him standing over Keyes’ broken body. Huge moment for him and a nice way to end the show.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #62 IS LIVE! UNCUT #2 IS NEXT!

Feels good to be back in Defiance, let me just say that.

I love Angus. He’s his own character at this point that seems for most people to just write himself. Well done by everyone involved in building him to this point. Stuff like this is what Murr and I had talked about trying to do with UTAH’s announcers, build them as their own independant characters who ALSO have a story to tell at time, or something to lend to another story. Great little intro that happens to chip the fourth wall. Loved it.

James, I like the graphic to tell when the segment happens. They look dope.

Best Idea: Ought oh seems that Natas, FDJ, and Dusty are out looking for a fight. Will they find one? Intrigue is built in this segment, picks up right where their DEFtv seg left off.

Don’t Be A Hero: Damn, I need a smoke after this segment. There’s so much going on here. One, this is why Uncut works so well for this fed because there are writers who will hit homeruns on it like it ain’t no thing. Murr and Justin are obviously two of those guys. This was perfect. It had everything you could want in regards to this angle. It had the footage of the attack, which sold Defiance being basically wired for sound at this point which is important. It had the face crawling out from underneath. And it showed the edge of Andy Murray. Not to mention that it goes a long way to establish more of the dynamic between BBD and Eric Dane. That stuff is gold. Hats off on this one. I could SEE it happening in my head, and it didn’t contain that much screen description. Maybe Pete is right! :)

First Impressions: Evan is so good at what he does. I have been struggling with the new character, like we all do from time to time. And Evan just came up with this segment and I didn’t change a God damned fucking thing. It was exactly what I wanted Van to say without knowing how to say it. Truly a gift to the e-fedding world. This place rocks.

Finding What You’re Looking For: Omega is confusing the ever loving shit out of me. It’s not in a bad way. I just don’t understand what’s going on yet. I get that you aren’t supposed to, but I would like some sort of explanation to come soon.

I Wasn’t Ready: Mikey has come such a fucking long way in this game over the past year. I like to think that I helped him with some of that, I think we all did. Our feud over in the UTAHs was awesome because we really focused on the storytelling. In an angle fed he has so many more chances to do that, without the burden of stables, or shitty booking, or roleplaying. And ideas like the money can work flawlessly. Such a good fucking idea. Mikey takes little throw away comments we make sometimes and polishes them up into this gold nuggets that are classic. Such a heel here. A hateable fucking heel. Any excuse in the book. Loved this.

Taking the Fight: Great fight scene here. And I love this to take this one to the next level in a big way.

Downtime, time.

Audition: I really liked this segment. Sets up a good story already heading into their first match. Another example of something that works much better in the angle world than the e-fedding world. There’s a built in story now with these guys and it came from one little segment on Uncut. BOOM. Sometimes it can be that easy.

Jizzy: Alright jump starting something with Angel City. I can get down with that, indeed.

Shit Talk: IT’S BACK. AND BIGGER THAN EVER! I died at the beginning because I’m sure given the history of BBD/Mikey they’ve done something like this before. Jack Hunter is up. If Jack Hunter is ever going to a pic base fed and doesn’t use CM Punk because he’s taken how about Charlie Kelly from Always Sunny. I can totally see Charlie eating lightbulbs and rats. I think Jack needs a food pyramid shirt of lightbulbs, rats, dead cows, moss. Would be a best seller.#StoryDrivenStreetFight that is everything.

Lake Placid: This is so over the top but it really works. Want to see a continuation of this. The Kickstarter doesn’t work, they try a bake sale, selling sperm, selling their eggs. All kinds of humor to be had here.

Superbest: Jack Hunter bringing in a boom box to a diner is the most Jack Hunter thing I can remember. I think that some of the JH stuff needs to be reeled in just a little, as this segment didn’t seem to do anything for me. Did like Pete’s v/o idea though.

Make it Happen: Perfect segment to drop the title. Also to sell Dane as being able to walk in and be like UMMMMM do this and it getting done.

Here: Did anyone feel it coming? In the Air? Tonight? Here we go!

Good edition of Uncut. Hats off to all.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #63 IS LIVE!

Alarm- Eugene Dewey shows up and causes a ruckus in the parking lot. Throwing around DEFSEC like nobodies business. For his trouble and for not being able to keep his cool, the man earns himself the night off. One on hand this was incredibly well written and realistic, on the other hand do I want to read a DEWEY-LESS Defiance show? No… lol Good stuff here, keeps building the feud, let’s see what the Champ has to say without his opponent in the building.

The Rundown
- My favorite opening to any feds show. The unique character that Angus is brings a lot to this segment. These two play off one another well, and Ive actually found myself looking forward to these rundowns whereas on most shows you only skim it. Great stuff here, keep this up. #DaSignsAreBack!

Trebol vs Levy -
Terrific match with a hilarious ending. I am hoping the finish doesn't overshadow this. Up until Hunter appears this is a very very good match! Even and paced very well. Nice luchadore vs light enough guy. Really liked how you wrote some more impactful strikes from Trebol, who you normally would not expect that from. (shotgun dropkicks were stellar) It read a little long but that's just because you used a tighter paragraph structure with more breaks. Otherwise it was fantastic. It was very fluid and read realistically. Nice spots with good transition. Hunter vs Trebol is heating up! Weed Killer was pretty clever. Great stuff Dalton, as per the usual!

Receipts - Lindsey Troy and Jane Katze are playing a bit of catchup and the heat picks up EARLY in this one. The tension is palpable and even tho I don't know the whole history you can tell it's legit. Troy and Box have been on a warpath for some time, and now that the Trio Tag Titles are getting involved we can only expect that to pick up some more. Good schtuff.

Omega vs Nick Carter
WOAH, very violent and good match. Everything the new division has talked about was in this match. It’s interesting, it's gold, it's what I like. In reality the wrestling I watch is a lot of this. reDRagon, Chris Hero, Roderick Strong, Rocky Romero, etc. and I love seeing it get made more into a E.W. thing. That said this match went a little long. I know I said the same thing about the last Carver match, but this one felt longer. I think the commentary was what probably made it feel that way. Jason's match writing is top notch and his description is sick. Loved this one. Van Carver loses to Omega and Box back to back weeks but is getting over for the dent he puts into them before they put him away. Interesting to see the ever confusing keyes helping out Carver. Best match i've ever read, 1 out of 22 stars.

Scheming - YAAAASSSSSSSS. FACEY FACE 101 RIGHT HERE: “Eric Dane’s gonna do everything he can to make my life miserable around here, but he’s not going to stop me from going out there and doing my job”. When I read that I closed the show up and put it away because we already have top notch heel and face work done, this early! WHAT!? Great segment, selling the feud and making his current one on one match mean more. Loved it.

Sam Horry vs FDJ
Nice Jack Hunter cameo in the beginning had me cracking up. Hashtag Fundamentals. <- Love it. Mushi also gets his jabs in on Horry before the match with a nice montage of comedy and seriousness. This match was a hell of a fight. Back and forth and absolutely brutal. This is the type of match I think of when I think of DEFIANCE. FDJ goes down hard. Hell of a moment for Sam Horry, knocking out a legend. Great match, Horry continues to entertain me.

COWDDT - #MicDrop. I used to do Mic Drops as a face. I miss those. Another hilarious hunter segment, his manner of speaking has gone beyond just weird now and is finally settling in the trademark territory. This is going to be the weirdest sentence I type all day…. Great character development for Jack Hunter. Love this off the wall feud.

PCP vs Barrio Boyz
Barrio Boyz coming to the ring with that facey face message. That tag line is tight tho lol don’t be a playa, STAY IN ESCUELA! Hahahahahaha the PCP have a message of their own. I LOVE THIS TAG TEAM! Not only because they sing Mikey’s praises but because they have a DISTINCT gimmick. They stand out to me, and well… they are Mikey fans! WOOOOOOO! Very fun match. The D and Elise are dirty af but you can tell they are athletic and natural heels. “This is for you Mikey!” Is great stuff. They told me the match would be dedicated but this was wonderful. A nice intro to the Barrio Boyz for me. And PCP gets a tag team win here! Can’t wait to respond to this.

It’s Me: Very fast paced seg that read SOOOOOOO SMOOOOOOOTH! Dan Ryan isnt about to go back to a trio tag run with people he cant get along with COUGHLINDSAYTROYCOUGH. Everyone else is in shock. Not only do they have to deal with that, but then Dan Ryan lets the BAWS (for both colins) know he’s trying to defend the title….next week. Awesome!

Griffith vs Booya
HAHAHAHAHAHA @ Angus’s pre match rant.
I’m a big fan of Team Hoss and the stuff they put out. Dusty Griffith has some backup however. He comes out with Natas, FDJ, and Same Horry in what can only be described as THE TOUGH GOOD GUIZ! Pretty stellar match here, no real complaints other than a bit long. At one point my eyes were crossed as I got a bit confused but upon rereading it, I found what I needed. I liked the interference playing a big role here, and this feud is heating up the right way. IN RING STORYTELLING! Top notch.

Defying Greatness -

I can tell this writer knows what he is doing. I can tell he has a very specific direction for these guys, and he’s looking to get involved and fit in. That said, this seg didnt feel right on the show. This seemed suited for a CD Propaganda type thing or an Uncut seg. Just felt a bit...longwinded. The writing is good, the characters are engaging, just a bit much as far as show material.

Murray vs Donovan

Very nice match here. Really feel like I have a better grasp of the WRESTLER Cayle Murray, here rather than Utah. He just feels a bit more polished. Maybe that's runoff from Andy vs Cayle writing? I don't know TBH. I just felt like Cayle was more of a “technician” in this one, where one move was constantly feeding into the next. Very good. Jake Donovan is an interesting character and still has a bit of defining to do. I enjoy the fire stuff and the emotional reaction (going for the bandaged area). As soon as Dane popped up alone, You knew Bobby was lurking somewhere. GREAT Finish for this match. Donovan gets his pin over someone “impressive” and Murray and Dane grows exponentially.

In the Air:
Holy Fuck I just marked about 6165416463773734 times. First Bobby Dean is cutting a super heel “little brother” promo on Cayle Murray. Then he accidentally books the PPV match kinda when Cayle likes what he hears, then the lights go out, and tease #2 comes! AMAZING!

ADVERT: LOVED IT.

Impulse vs Penn

Curtis Penn, ever the entertaining Mic handler, has something to say prematch. He is tired of being DEF’s lapdog. He’s putting Kelly Evans on notice. Cally is the most bubbly annoying little thing ever. I love it! Impulse is a face, but he kind of has a ‘chill’ feel about him. Like he could do some heelish stuff but his DEMEANOR stays face when he does it. The Faceslap for instance. Dislocating shit to get out of holds…. Gross and awesome. Nice finish here, Impulse gets a nice win in his in ring debut in DEF. Penn is a shit stirrer all match and talks mad on Impulse only to end up on the losing end. Good stuff.

Role Reversal: Wrote this, hope you enjoyed. Really feel like I'm getting the hang of this place, formatting, and doing things the right way. Hats off to Seth for helping me along thus far. Really tried to run with it this week and have Mikey bitter as all get out.

Trio Tag Turtles
This was a great match, and you knew it would be a great match. I just think the intro was too long. By the time I got to the match I felt like I was already 2 pages deep on this one. I really enjoy the way the crowd was written. The reactions, the hot tags, etc. Really made me feel like they were into it more than the other matches thus far, and really they should be. Omega shows up out of nowhere and takes Ty Walker down! HARD! Great ending, New Trio champs, but the question is… Omega and the Vikings?.... Oh no….

Victory: The Viking War cult gets their time in the spotlight following the biggest win by the team….EVA! Great way to flesh out the characters. I believe we’ve all been put on notice.

Invitation: Dan Ryan reveals his opponent for next week's title match…. IMPULSE! Loved the way he worked right around Penn and his earlier request in the show! CONTINUALITY! I thought this was INCREDIBLY long winded and needed more action to break up the speech, otherwise you knew the content would be good, entertaining, and fun (fallout 4 for life). Good way to build the feud without Dewey available.

SOHER-
This match was stacked. I like fast past, quick action matches and you knew just from the line up thats what this would be. Nice open to make it feel incredibly even match. Enjoyed them working inside and outside the ring, not something you expect from two faces. This match ended earlier than I expected but it worked out due to the extracurriculars which were new to me. I love being surprised! Both Mikey Unlikely and Jake Donovan come out post match and let their true feelings be known. Everyone knows you don't interrupt a celebrity! C’MON GUYS! Terrific match.

GREAT SHOW THIS WEEK GUYS. EVERY WEEK IT GETS BETTA! WHEN WILL IT END! (NEVA)

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #63 IS LIVE!

So when I do feedbacking for Defiance I like to one, read everything. Cause I freely admitted I didn’t read shit before. And I got hell for it. Also I like to get good and high and put on some dope tunes. This show seems to align with the God above, Eddie Vedder, so here we go.

I also do two screens. I read the show on the I-Pad and then I write my feedback in a Google Doc so I can come back and pick up right where I left off. I wasn’t this dedicated with the UTAH feedbacks, but that’s due to the gut reactions UTAH shows produced. Here everything could and often does feed into something else, so the immediate result isn’t important. It’s relaxed e-fedding.

DEFtv 63. Still taking me a while to get how the stylizations go on some of these terms. I know that shit matters, so I make sure to try and get it right.

Sound the Alarm: Kelly Evans with a frowny face is never a good thing and Eugene Dewey learns that first hand as he gets sent home for the night for assaulting two members of the team. I get this puts over Dewey as a heel, hell bent on getting what is his back, but I never like assaulting NPCs for the sake of making the character look strong. Especially someone like Dewey. That aside, this was still a great segment and one hell of a way to start off the show. Also enjoyed that it was clear defined as taking place earlier this afternoon. Gave it a better feel for sure.

DEFtv Graphic is so dope. Who’s getting it tattooed?

Some clutch sign work as usual.

Right off the bat this intro sells me on Jake Donovan and I love that. Firebug nutjob, that has some real legs. And Donovan vs. Murray, knowing that there is some positioning for the SoHER going on, adding in Murray’s injuries at the hands of Dane and without doing much of anything the night is hot as hell. That’s how Defiance works. This entire intro was great. Murr and I talked about how much we loved it just this morning.

ETJ vs. Walter Levy: This match was well written, not sure who we have to thank for that. Good visuals. Could’ve used a touch of commentary to break up some of the heavier spots. I also feel as though Greg could be doing more than “just” handling ETJ. But that’s my two cents. The ETJ vs. Jack Hunter feud should be comedy gold.

Collecting Receipts: Another “somewhere backstage” segment. It takes two seconds to give your segment a location. I don’t understand how difficult that is. I’m not ragging on whomever wrote that, just speaking on the trend in general. So if it’s somewhere backstage I’m going to assume that Troy and Katze are in the Women’s Room. But then we’re told we’re at a hospitality table so why didn’t we just start with that? MOVING ON - This is a good segment cause it felt like at any moment shit was going to pop off. The directions were extremely well written. I didn’t particularly like Lindsay Troy taking such an aggressive line but given the history here I clearly understand it. Also didn’t care for the political muttering, kind of took away from the overall body of work. Can’t wait to see these two throw down at some point.

Omega vs. Van Carver: Fuck me for taking a four day bender. I tried to edit some of this match and I succeeded but I didn’t have enough time for all of it. There was to be more interaction between Carver and Keyes, which I’ll look to develop in full on Uncut. Hard with a name like Omega not to say Omega, Omega, Omega every three lines in writing a match.

Plot/Scheme: Cayle Murray feels like Sammi Zayn to me at times. And that isn’t a bad thing. The Murray Brothers have each other’s backs. But I feel as though Dane is lurking. This is one of the best stories running now.

Sam vs. FDJ: BRUTAL match. Sells Sam. Sells FDJ. Love it all. Great writing in it as well. Hats off.

Jack Hunter DDT: More absurdity and this time it’s with Christie Zane, interested to see where ETJ takes this.

Clash of the Defiants: Let’s do the damned thing!

PCP vs. TBB: Showcase match for the PCPs. Puts over the PCPs and Angus’ hatred of them. I think this is an all around win.

Not You, It’s Me: Absurd segment that had me marking out. Didn’t see this one coming, liked the drama that is played up here. A concern I’m going to have is that sometimes the inner drama of LT feels VERRRRRY soap opera currently but that isn’t even a bad thing, just keep an eye on it. Who’s getting a shot!?

Dusty vs. Jonny: Went how I thought it was going to go. Strong as hell match, ending with the challenge of a life time. Angel is pissed and that isn’t a good thing. Well written stuff here. This is another little story I’m liking. Although at times Natas just kind of feels THERE.

Standards: A touch long for an intro segment in my eyes but it does a good job building off the Uncut segment and gets them officially onto the roster. Don’t look now but DEF has a tag division. I like the teacher/student relationship here, lots to play off of.

Squid vs. Jeff Hardy: Great match, selling the Murray Brothers playing off one another. Eric Dane comes in, distraction, swerve, false ending, BBD. Donovan gets his win, and if I’m him I’m marching straight to Harmony to wave it in her face.

In the Air: I guess we’ll have to wait to see what is planned for Jackson. Nice tease but no real follow up, so call me confused.

Impulse vs. Penn: Night and freaking day. He’s either a rookie or a washed up has been, Impulse cannot be both. Even in trash talking. Didn’t need Calico Rose blowing it up, but I like that it sells Angus as Angus. Great match, enjoyed it. Sometimes too flashy with the outside the ring stuff but it told a good story and was a great win for Impulse. Where does everyone go from here?

Role Reversal: Amazing idea for a segment. Worked well. Hats off fellas.

DEF 3: What a brutal fucking match. This was unreal. Love this Cult team, lots can be done with them. The Omega/Walker stuff keeps going. The Vikings promo after was great too.

Invitation: Again, Impulse isn’t “green.” In a Defiance sense, sure, but in a world sense, no. I liked this promo from Ryan a lot.

SoHer: Good match, although it felt short, maybe just cause some of the other matches were a bit longer. The ending insanity was amazing. Sold Mikey and sold Jake. I like that the end of the show isn’t just reserved for the FIST or the big guys. Lots of people get shine there. Good stuff everyone.

I’d give this show a 4 out of 5.

DEFUNCUT#2

BEST IDEA - Me and Murrr do stuff again.

DON'T BE A HERO v2 -- Loved how this was the POV from the other side of the Cayle Murray attack. All the detailing from Zane being outside the hospital like a real news reporter at the start and finish, to the security footage being played of the attack, and of course Bobby Dean shenanigans tie this all together. A very good followup to what happened on #62.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS -- My favorite part of this segment was Carver's reasoning for attacking Keyes and how he doesn't want to be over shadowed or lost in the shuffle because of all the higher profile names that have come in. Even as a young heel character, that is good reasoning, and it allows for him to be a dick in the face of much higher level characters, get his ass kicked, and still come out looking good. Plus... INTRIGUE!

FINDING WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR -- Ed wrote most of this, I Ty'd it up a bit and did some edits.

I WASN'T READY -- I love Mikey Unlikely... No joke, this is perfect heel work with the whole slant of how he wasn't ready and Murray's elbow was foreign because the match wasn't started... Plus all the Mikey Money stuff is great, please keep that going. This is just me guesstimating, but I could totally see Mikey and Curtis Penn possibly liking each other (briefly, until ambition gets in the way) in some sort super duper douchebag partnership of convenience... Oh god, Mikey, Kendrix, PCPs, Penn, and the SMBs as some trolling band of asshole "cool kids." I'm just gonna move on before I go any further haha.

TAKING THE FIGHT TO THEM -- Seth handled this wonderfully and I thank him for that 8)

FROM THE DEFIANCE AUDITION ARCHIVES -- HAAAAAAAHAHA, nice little glimpse at who and what the Ronin are all about. Dynamite Dan being a bump machine after being a dick to his rookie "partner" and then the shot at Kip being asked about getting in there and he's all like "Naaah man, I'm good" in his expression. Rocko & Kuroyama will fit right in as the hard hitting, no nonsense good guys.

JIZZY SMELLING AMERICAN PRICK -- Evan and Justin doing their thing again, perfect. Just keep it going, the ACX are always fun to read, and adding a dickish fuckboi like Flex Kruger to their mix is perfect to counterbalance the lulz that is Rich and Don.

SHIT TALK - DEF EDITION - #1 - Haha at the start where Mikey is like "no, fuck this." Like I said, I love Jack Hunter because it's not serious, which means it's just straight fun for the sake of fun. Plus tying this all together with the #62 stuff where Bobby was trying to get out of wresting his match vs Euge was a perfect way to close this. Good stuff.

LAKE PLACID VI 2: THE KICKSTARTER ACCOUNT -- Hah, idiots. More fun stupidity, lets me relax and not have to think so hard, appreciate this sort of stuff to be honest (hence Jack Hunter, Bobby Dean, etc).

DON'T MESS WITH THE SUPERBEST -- The first half of this is nice work, I like the slow play that's being done with Impulse to get him blended into the world. The character thinking about things that will get him on the good side of the DEFIANT Faithful, knowing he doesn't quite fit the mold of what the DEFIANCE fanbase likes... And then of course MOAR JACK HUNTER! You know who Jack Hunter is? He's one of those Youtube Pranksters, only he goes into a public place and just acts like this enormous idiot and gets like millions of views because people want to see what he does next. Jack Hunter is a ONE MAN FLASH MOB. Holy shit. Hah.

MAKE IT HAPPEN -- I wrote this, hope it worked. I figured since Kelly and Angus have been working together to run the show, it would make sense that their usual brother/sister sibling rivalry changed to be a bit to a more tolerable towards each other.

WHY ARE THEY HERE -- More things are percolating uppin' this business.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #63 IS LIVE!

UNCUT 1

Deja Vu
This was an absolutely perfect cold open for the first episode of UNCUT. Nice little slice of continuity with Abigail showing-up a week after Dewey’s little bitchfit. ETJ was absolute money as the “GM of After Hours” in UTA, so this makes perfect sense to me and it’s bound to be funny as fuck. The description of him adjusting his chair with the 2001 theme playing made me roffle all over the place.

Welcome to the Show
I absolutely love Angus and I love the absurdity of someone opening-up a major wrestling promotion’s first broadcast of a new show with “what’s up, McFuckos?”. Glorious. Just a really good introduction to what to expect from this show with some snotty humour thrown-in for good measure. Not sure I get the “MOAR” thing though.

The Cool Kids Club
It’s kind of tough to review this show several weeks after it went out, when several things that I was looking to learn about have already been revealed. I wanted a little follow-up on LT after the Box beatdown, and I got it. Then I got some fun super cool nice sweet banter with the other big faces on the roster. Good stuff. Sharp’s “Who knew you’d be here… in your office” was funny.

The Following Preview is Rated R (for REALLY Awesome)
Nice little character expose with Bronson and Stanley. I love stuff like that, when writers deliberately go out of the way to give the supporting cast some new wrinkles. Good shit. These guys are awesome and I love Elise’s revulsion towards all things common, and The D’s flaunting of his absolutely atrocious filmography. Shitty heels trying to shmooze their way into the building is pretty much a guaranteed hit. Great work.

Charity Work
I wrote this with Mikkel Unlickable.

Two Scotsmen Walk Into a Wrestling Arena
I wrote this with Jonno.

Second Verse, Same as the First
Cool seg. Reminds me of the Gracie Breakdown videos on YouTube, but the hosts aren’t as irritating. It’s pretty cool to see someone dive deep into the technical aspects of what we do an explain exactly why this goofy-looking shit actually hurts.

The Keyes to Research
It’s a natural progression in the Van Claudio/Keyes storyline in a short, sweet snap. Totally fine for what it is.

A Look Back
Cool thing about this show is getting guys like Cappy, who I’m semi-familiar with after my previous run with, involved in proceedings. Starts well with the initial three-way conversation, gets super-good when Booya and Alex show-up and Booya tells Keeling to give him some skin. Really great segment. The idea of using Booya as an example for Angel to follow is just kinda funny though.

Old Habits
Love it. Two of the biggest bastards on the planet shooting shit at each other. I love sentences like “my little vacation in Utah” from Dane, because he was pretty much the biggest and baddest through his run there, and him referring to it as a “vacation” just totally devalues the whole thing. Great heeling. Dane talking about stepping in if shit starts to hit the fan makes me worried for Kelly’s position long-term and that’s a great new wrinkle for the powerbitch here. Love Penn’s ongoing paranoia too.

Meanwhile, at the La Quina Inn (and Suites)!
‘Sup with the formatting here? Entertaining ACX segment. Funny and disgusting in equal measure.

Job Interview
Kinda hard to take this one objectively because I had a little insight into what was gonna go from this, but (I understand) has now been cancelled. Pretty cool to see Greer back on the scene though: hoping for a follow-up soon.

Earn my Spot
Wrote this with Jonno, but his face promo to start with was super good. Introduced a new character very well indeed. Nice to have another Scotch person man around.

Harm-O-Knee
Completely inconsequential fluff and I’ve nothing bad to say about it whatsoever, because that’s what this show is for. Frank comes-off like an awestruck little schoolboy here which is a pretty interesting fuckin’ contrast to the big bruiser I’m accustomed to. Then again, he doesn’t exactly seem like the kinda guy who comes in-contact with hot athletic women too often, so his bashfulness is pretty much spot-on.

Bodybags
Fuck yeah. Note perfect introduction to the Box/Van Claudio/Katze mini-story that’s been going-on. Love Van’s intro storyline of having all the tools but not really knowing how to put them together yet: gonna be interesting to follow as he molds himself into a stone cold killer. The confrontation with Box was very well-played and helped me get into what they’ve been doing, especially when the match rolled around.

Prohibition
Dan Ryan bullying the fuck out of our goofy little airship pilot man. Loved the hell out of it. Builds-on Ryan’s overbearing, domineering personality and makes me sympathetic towards Keyes. Job done.

UNCUT 2

Welcome to the Show
What I said earlier.

Best Idea All Night
Wrote this with Jimbo.

Don’t be a Hero v1.2
Wrote this with Justin.

First Impressions
Van Carver has been very well-developed since joining DEFIANCE, and I already feel like I know him better than the majority of the roster. Dude just appears every show and sheds some new light on his character. Here we get his youthful arrogance and sense of entitlement in full-flow, before Juicy Jane shows-up and makes with the verbals. Makes perfect sense that Jane and Box would be impressed by the brutality Van’s shown he can withstand (and dish-out) thus far. Really excited about this one.

Finding What You’re Looking For
Also excited about this story. What the fuck does Omega know, man? It’s really intriguing at the moment and the ending was kinda obvious, but it makes perfect sense. Good.

I Wasn’t Ready
FUCK THIS GUY. I fucking hate him. He’s a no-good, disgusting, piece-of-shit motherfucker and I hope he melts. Mikey has really come-on leaps and bounds. I’ve been championing this character for a long time and I’m really glad how well he’s going over in DEFIANCE. We workshopped the Merchandise idea a few weeks ago but like 99% of it came from mikey. Dude’s got so many heelish ideas that haven’t been spoiled on ready yet. “The loss doesn’t count because I wasn’t ready.” SO GOOD.

Taking the Fight to Them
About time those pretty motherfuckers took a couple licks. Satisfying.

From the DEFIANCE Audition Archives
I really like this method of introducing a couple new characters. Can’t say I’ve ever seen someone roll with the audition tape angle, so props for that. Really like the way the action was written, which bodes well for future matches. I’m into these guys already.

Shit Talk - Episode 1
I wrote this with Bobo.

Lake Placid VI2: The Kickstarter Account
Look at that bloody title. Amazing. Hilarious. Already the two funniest characters on the roster, IMO. I’m still not sure I understand why Klein has a box on his head but it’s funny as hell regardless. D running into a tree, LOL. I can tell that these are gonna be an amazing foil for Mikey.

Don’t Mess With the Superbest
I wrote this with Pete.

Make it Happen
Kelly and Angus come across like a brother and sister in segments like this. It’s like they really do like and care about each other, but Angus’ troll gene is too strong for him not to be really annoying all the time, and Kelly’s bitch reflex is too big for her not to bite. Nice little set-up for the DOC stuff, which I’m super-excited about.

Why Are They Here?
Colour me excited for Mike Bell’s inevitable debut. Big-ups to Marshall and Vanessa.
