Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #63 IS LIVE!

Sound the Alarm

This is how to handle an authority figure. The heel boss is played out, the babyface boss is boring. Give me a Kelly Evans any day of the week who has one interest - the continued prosperity of the company. If I'm ever in a position to work a program with Eugene Dewey, however, I may need to refer to him as Princess Peach every time.

Welcome to the Show

As always, a good breakdown of the show and the things that are happening, complete with snide comments from Angus. He's totally the star of the show.

The Green Midget vs. Walter Levy

I loved the transitions in this match - how the normal 'rules' for wrestling get tossed out when your opponent is only 4 foot 7. Props to Levy for working around them. Little disappointed at the finish; a somewhat inept interference from JACK HUNTER might push a story forward but I was actually a little pissed that we were robbed of a finish. Success, right? :)

Collecting Receipts

Love the need to stay professional with co-workers you hate, but as always happens, it devolves into shit throwing. The edge was taken off by DDK and Angus discussing DEFspy at the end, which makes the edge that much more effective. At the same time, I think there might have been a little too much exposition for a private conversation.

Omega vs. Van Carver

Certainly brutal. I think this got Omega over as a beast, got Carver over as as never - say - die gutsy motherfucker, but at the same time I was reading it and found myself losing interest a few times: the words used sounded like a transcript read after the fact where we knew the finish and knew that neither athlete was in any real danger. I hope that makes sense - the intercut commentary did not sound like there was any sense of urgency to it.

Plotting & Scheming

Great babyface moment. The Murrray brothers rule. My only real comment is the commentators at the beginning of the piece. Backstage vignettes that are accepted as being 'on camera' are usually done like a 'slice of life' where we all agree that the participants don't know the camera is there. Angus and Keebler's commentary during the scene tells us that there is a camera there, which means the Murrr's should've acknowledged it. You can lift Angus and DDK out without changing anything about the rest of the segment and I think it would work just as well.

Sam Horry vs. FDJ

I think what I like best about JACK HUNTER (interesting way to start this match review) is that he's a ridiculous character who has to interact with a real world situation. Nobody just accepts him as being the way he is. "Sam manages to mouth the words, "the...fuck?" was the only thing to say. Beyond JACK HUNTER, it was a quick one, but it gets over the power of Sam's kick like nothing else. A little uneven with the JACK HUNTER cameo, but enjoyable.

JACK HUNTER tries to DDT a flight case

I love how he refers to Trebol as a cactus. It fits, but it's so ridiculous it's awesome.

AD: Clash of the Defiants

Glorious promo piece.

PCP vs. Barrio Boys

I like the idea and existence of BRAZEN - it's a good storytelling tool. Speaking of tools, the Pop Culture Phenoms... I kid. But these two teams are total opposites, which I love. The D, dedicating the match to Mikey Unlikely was a great cheap heat comment - and that's a good thing. Highly entertaining sports entertainment wrestling match, I think we should see this one again and again.

It's not you, it's me

It's always sad when a divorce happens. Will they have joint custody of THEIRBOYTAI? It might not be exciting but it's far more realistic that a team that doesn't get along just splits instead of doing the "I'll stab you in the back during our match" route. Besides Dan Ryan has the FIST - what's one title belt or another? I really just wish I was further indulged, instead of Ryan making a comment about a barber shop window, if he asked LT if he should put her in a bamboo cage and blow it up, instead. You know what I'm talking about. :)

Dusty Griffith vs. Johnny Booya

Love Angus calling Dusty 'Mayberry' throughout. It's the little things that sell the story. Beyond that, this one felt less like a wrestling match and more like a straight up brawl. Add the interference and Dusty getting the win against all odds, my pick for match of the night.

Defying the Standards of Greatiness

Intro for Rocko and Kuroyama. Would love to do a little program between Impulse and Rocko - they're very similar but never really got to match up in EPW. Big fan of both these guys.

Cayle Murray vs. Jake Donovan

Heh. Calamurray. That's gonna stick. Speaking of sticks, Eric Dane is pretty much just poking him with one now. Jake Donovan gets a win and another step closer to a shot at Harmony's SOHER championship, but that's amost an afterthought between the continued war, the Murrray boys on one side and DeanDane on the other. But that gets swept up even more when you feel it coming

In The Air

tonight. That's a teaser, and shit just got even more real than real.

The Defiant Road

Awesome.

Impulse vs. Curtis Penn

As this was an intro match, and, in storyline, a 'tryout' match, I tried to include a little bit of everything. Might've been a bit crowded, but I think it contained a good mix of wrestling and sports entertainment. Curtis Penn is a great shitheel to play spoiler for Impulse, and going up against a man as hated as Penn will get Pulse started off on the right foot. Not sure where the confusion came in - Pulse is clearly a ring veteran, but Curtis Penn doesn't respect him enough to know that, so if he's new to Defiance he's new to him. Going to enjoy tormenting Angus with Cally for the forseeable future.

Role Reversal

Glorious. Love seeing Mikey get the other end of it for once. Andy Sharp is going to feel the Bruvs before long, though.

Trios match

Everything's better with vikings. Brutally brutal with interference and fighting from underneath - Lindz and Ty were pretty high up there now but I'd put them at the top of the babyface food chain after that one, and while Eugene Dewey is in line for a FIST rematch, I'm pretty sure Lindz is coming for Dan Ryan.

Victory

Post - debut, we get the intro to the Viking War Cult, and we get a good idea of what they're going to do. Like I said - everything is better with vikings.

Invitation

Not sure I like the opening - Angus is too forgiving of Ryan leaving HISBOYTAI high and dry. He might be 'understanding' about leaving Lindz behind, but if you wrong Ty, Angus should neither forgive nor forget. Loved the continuity - this was set up at the end of the previous Ryan segment, called back to the Curtis Penn mic spot where he insulted Impulse by calling him a rookie. Also a great callback to Curtis Penn demanding a shot at Ryan at 64, only to see his opponent get it.

Harmony vs. Andy Sharp

Echoing the others - short match, sudden finish, but the quick pace and extracurriculars made it worth it. Can't wait to see Harmony get some revenge on Mikey.

Aces on this one, we're rolling now. And I feel like everyone's pretty much intergrated themselves really fucking quickly - faster than I thought and that was pretty fast.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #63 IS LIVE!

Sound The Alarm:
Princess Peach, err...Eugene Dewey was just showing his identification. Can't fault him for that. Oh wait, this involved Kelly Evans. Yep, all Eugene's fault. Nicely done.

The Rundown-Welcome To The Show:
Signs, signs, everywhere there's signs. Love this aspect of the show, the rundown of the card, the feel from the fans, the announcers setting the tone.

El Trebol Jr. vs Walter Levy:
LOL, wasn't the finish I was looking for, but comedy gold strikes once again with Jack Hunter. A nicely written match, went back and forth between the two before Hunter comes out and costs Levy the match. Weed killer, you gotta love that Jack Hunter.

Collecting Receipts:
You could cut the tension with a knife. There is obviously some bad blood between LindsayTroy and Jane Katze which almost has another chapter during DEFtv #63. But you have to give Katze some credit, she doesn't show fear to the woman, even when threatened to be put in another knee brace. Something tells me this is about to get serious.

Omega vs Van Carter:
Van gives it his all against this monster, but had little to no effect. After using everything in his arsenal, he just couldn't slow Omega down. After beating the newcomer, Omega partakes in a little after match activity which draws the attention of Tyrone Walker. That Omega is one awesome individual and one wonders if even Walker can stop him.

Plotting and Scheming:
Andy showing concern for his brother Cayle, especially with that bandage on his head. However, Cayle just wants to wrestle which prompts Andy to say that he'll be in his brother's corner during his match. Nah, Eric Dane would never get involved in someone elses match, never.

Sam Horry vs Frank Dylan James:
Big time win for Horry. FDJ is no slouch and to knock him out with a single roundhouse kick is big time. Now the question is, can Sam do it again with Mushigihara? Also, another comedic appearance by Jack Hunter. A good match.

Jack Hunter Tries To DDT A Flight Case:
LOL, clearly the segment of the night. This is pure comedy gold. Nuff said.

Advertisement: Clash Of The Defiants:
Hyping the PPV and the Onslaught Championship.

Pop Culture Phenoms vs The Barrio Boys:
Okay, I will admit that I wasn't really into this match. For some reason, not really too familiar with either of these teams...but hey, PCP did win. So that was good, right?

It's Not You, It's Me:
Wow, talk about your shockers. But isn't this a case of Dan Ryan doing what's best for Dan Ryan? Plus, I wonder who he wants to defend the FIST against?

Dusty Griffith vs Jonny Booya:
A very well written match, with all the elements involved. A singles match influenced by the numbers game on both sides. One side doing all it can to interfere, and the other acting as the counter balance. Dusty gets the win after Booya eats a boot from Angel, who was trying to punt Dusty into the middle of next week. Then Dusty finishes up with a challenge for Team HOSS.

Defying The Standards Of Greatness:
A new team in Defiance. The Rain City Ronin. Can't wait to see what they bring to the mix.

Cayle Murray vs Jake Donovan:
Cayle has the match won, but cue Eric Dane and Bobby Dean. While Dane distracts Andy, Bobby gets enough of Cayle's attention so Jake can get the cheap win.

In The Air:
After costing Cayle the match, Bobby Dean finds a mic and begins the verbal run down on Cayle. His intent is to propose a tag team match between himself and Eric Dane versus the Murray Brothers. It causes Andy to turn his attention just enough for Dane to begin sneaking up on Andy when all the sudden....

"Can you feel it, Defiance?"

The lights come back on and the ringside area is filled with Defiance security. Yes people, you know who is close...REALLY close.

Advertisement: The Defiant Road:
Love that poster image. Whomever did it, nicely done.

Impulse vs Curtis Penn:
Wow, wicked match. From dislocating hips to twisted knee kips, Impulse gets the win and a shot in the back for his troubles from Penn.

Role Reversal:
LOL, now this was another golden segment. Andy Sharp turning the tables on Mikey Unlikely by interrupting HIS interview time. A challenge is thrown down by Sharp and before Mikey can respond, Warner gets in on the deal and there's no more time. Now the SOHER match later in the show has an even greater meaning.

Defiance World Trios Championship:
A very, VERY brutal match. You have to give Ty and Lindsay credit, even being a man down, they still went to the ring and took a gawd awful amount of punishment. Then you put Omega into the mix, followed by Jane Katze and Bronson Box...this now becomes a frightening situation for Ty and Lindsay as the Viking trio are now the World Trios Champions and seemingly with more to worry about than lost belts.

Victory:
Damn you History Channel, damn you to hell.

Invitation:
Wow, what a way to find out you blew an opportunity at the FIST? sheesh.

Southern Heritage Title Match:
Andy Sharp gives it his all, but comes up just short against Harmony. It was a well written match and an even better written double attack afterwards. Sharp is jumped from behind by Mikey Unlikely and Harmony is almost fire-balled by Jake Donovan. She escapes the fire-ball, but not the Canadian Destroyer.

Overall:
A great overall read.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #63 IS LIVE!

Sound the AlarmFeels like a pretty effective way to write a guy off for the night, though I will miss Eugene’s presence throughout the show. Eugene is just such a flaming rageball at the moment and this was another small release, but I’m *really* looking forward to the moment when he just flips and goes full apeshit on someone. Good stuff here. Kelly comes across very strong by just straight-up throwing him out for the night.
The RundownSigns! Angus! Another perfect intro.
ETJ vs. Walter LevyGood match, Greg. I think I would have liked to have seen ETJ pick-up a clean win at this point in his career, but the Hunter interruption was more important for the story.
Collecting ReceiptsLindsay Troy AKA Top Heel 2016 AKA #MomCharacter and UTA Hall-of-Famer Jane Katze in the same segment. Oh boy. Nice little explanation of why Jane’s got a brace: as a semi-new reader, I appreciate little things like that. Flowed a little slow in the initial stages, this one: I think there was a smidge too much action between dialogue, particularly at the point that LT got “DEAD serious.” Hurt the flow a little. It was golden after that though. Love Jane’s Trios Championships power play and Troy’s typically headstrong response.
Omega vs. Van CarverIt’s as brutal and hard-hitting as I expected, but I had considerable trouble getting into this one for technical reasons. It very much felt like a bullet-point list of actions rearranged into paragraphs, split-up with commentary. Puts Omega over as a savage and Big Marie over as a girl who sure can take a lot of punishment before being put down, which is the main thing. Good post-match stuff to further both stories, too: I’m deeply invested in both of them at this point.
Plotting & SchemingI wrote this.
Sam Horry vs. FDJLike that Sam is rolling with the “King of the Streets” thing, and not just because it led to use writing a cool little ditty with Jacky H. This really put Sam over as a dangerous striker, though I’d be weary of overusing KO finishes in wrestling. I believe in it if it happens every now and then, but concussion issues are nothing to fuck with and realistically anyone who gets KO’d is probably looking at 2-3 months on the sidelines these days. Good match though.
Jack Hunter Tries to DDT a Flight CaseI wrote this.
AdvertisementGlad the ball’s finally rolling with Clash. I’m giddy with excitement for this show, friends. You have no idea. Looking forward to the roll-out of names for this here thinger.
PCP vs. The Barrio BoysFUCK YES, PCP. The Barrio Boys shit pre-match was gold. Billy told me he was gonna write them like an hispanic New Day, and he knocked it out of the park. “Don’t be a playa, STAY IN ESCUELA!” Hell yes. I also love it when people go out of their way to give the supporting cast something to do other than eat a loss. Big props for taking the initiative and helping to flesh these guys out a little. Excellent match. Highlights were the “you can’t wrestle” chant for Elise and The D’s “FOR MIKEY!”
It’s Not You, It’s MeLike the dynamic between Cool Mom and Cool Dad here. Great little awkward moment when Dan arrives. Glorious assertiveness from Dan as he completely bypasses the babyfaces in addressing Jane, which makes me like the good guys more and… like Dan Ryan more too, honestly. Not exactly rooting for him though. Glad to get some LT/DR face-to-face after what went down at the PPV as well.
Dusty Griffifth vs. Jonny BooyaGood little intro to meld the previous segment in with this one: that’s the kinda thing I’m looking for when I go on about someone reading the show before posting. Love Frank and Jason coming-out at Dusty’s side after weeks and weeks of HOSSMB fuckery, but I think it’s a pretty huge continuity fart to have Frank reappear so soon after being knocked clean out by Sam Horry. It’s no fault of the matchwriter’s, but if Frank was gonna come-out here (and it was a good story moment, so he should’ve), then there’s no way he should’ve been KO’d earlier in the show. Great match other than that. My favourite of the card so far.
Defying the Standards of GreatnessReally enjoyed this. Love the student/teacher dynamic between these two and they’ve been worked into DEFIANCE very well so far. It’s a classic format that sheds plenty light on these men, their histories and their motivations going forward. Looking forward to more. I love strong-willed, noble types and it’ll be interesting to see these two run into the PCP.
Cayle Murray vs. Jake DonovanI wrote this.
In the AirI helped Justin and Bobo with this.
AdvertisementLoving this ads -- they’re a really nice way to break the super srs wrestlestuff that’s going on.
Impulse vs. Curtis PennReally good match. It’s long in word-count, but I feel the pre/post match shenanigans make it seem a lot longer than it actually is. Loved the spot with Cally and Angus at the beginning: her and Pulse are immediately likeable. Pete writes strong, flowing action interspersed with vital nuggets of commentary and wrestler dialogue: great TV match from one of the best in the biz.
Role ReversalLOL. Sharp interrupting Mikey was absolutely glorious and Mikey’s reaction really illustrates his deep-rooted hypocrisy. I don’t know how Seth does it: any other writer would’ve made Sharp come across as an unlikeable snarky bastard here, but he does the opposite. Confrontational without making the guy any harder to get behind at all. Would’ve been a nice little easter egg if Andy had called Mikey “bruv” instead of “bro” here, but hey-ho. Great seg, especially with Mikey’s incredulity at the end. GO TEAM.
Trios MatchGreat match. Classic babyface sympathy with the numerical disadvantage, but you know, Lindsay Troy is a heel etc. Omega had to come down and fuck Ty up after all that went on earlier, too. Salt in the wound from Jane and Box at the end there, too. Not a good night for the babyfaces, and that’s exactly the kind of stuff I expect at this stage in the arc. Faces have to take more licks than they give out, IMO: this show for LT and Ty is a classic example of how to do that.
VictoryFuck yeah, face-time with the new champs. These guys are pretty terrifying already. These guys are pretty heavily gimmicked, but the imagery works very very well in a pro-wrestling context. Like, it’s absolutely seamless. Battle, brotherhood, fires of hell, etc. This is how to write gimmicked characters without turning them into caricatures. Good.
InvitationDan is always on-point with the verbals, obviously, but this one did feel overlong to me. It might’ve been the wordcount, the level of detail, or the formatting with minimal action to break-up the huge bits of dialogue. He ticks all the boxes, though: Dewey, the next title shot, etc. I love that Impulse won the shot, and the way Ryan phrased Penn’s missing-out is gonna drive Curtis up the wall in a way that I want to read immediately.
SOHERHarmony is having a pretty good run thus far and I like Sharp as a challenger. Good mix of styles, well-written action. Everything is on-point. We had some long-ass matches on this show so I’m actually quite glad that this one was a little shorter. Post-match was solid with Mikey fucking Sharp up and Jake fucking Harm up. Harmony needed this: she’s come-off a little cold to me in recent shows, but this gets me right back on the sympathy train. Good stuff, and I’m looking forward to her wrath.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #61 IS LIVE!

UNCUT #3 is posted.

We may or may not be doing a DEFcast this Friday with Murr being away. Will let everyone know soon.

BUT... Murr and I have been discussing the idea of doing a special DEFcast that discusses the entire WrestleMania Weekend from NXT DALLAS, WrestleMania 32, and the Post-WrestleMania RAW. Just something different than the usual efed specific stuff. If you're interested in listening or participating, let us know. It'll probably be a mid-week episode after Murr's had a chance to watch everything since he'll be away and avoiding spoilers.

I will listen for sure. If it's a midweek show and you need people on, I'll participate. I'd also gladly defer to others who may not have had a chance to be on a DEFcast yet and would really like to be on this one.

DEFUNCUT3SHOWREVIEWBEEFYDAX

Welcome to the show - Wrote this with James, hope you enjoy.

Backstage Scruffle- Henry Keyes and Van JaeBae run into one another backstage. Carver wants nothing to do with him, despite the help he got earlier in DEFTV 63. Nice quick segment. Keeps the heat turned up.

Its all about the Mikey Bucks Baby! - Hahahahahaha PCP is stealing MikeyMoney™ from the fans and trading them for faux merch. Amazing. Love this. These guys are doing all this without my input which is making it all the better. They give me a loose idea of what's going on then BOOM… magic. Fantastic. Loved this one.

Drinking Buddies - The Mirelurks and Lindsey Troy going to the bar together. I loved this seg for realz. The banter came off as super genuine which was a surprise. Anytime you get this many peeps in one seg someone always comes off as “not themselves”. Not the case here. Liked everyone from Troy and the Mirelurks all the way to FDJ,DUSTY, and Natas. I hope this keeps building and more friendly stuff happens. Andy Murray is growing on me hard. (thats not what it sounds like).

ACX GET FLEXXXXED- Rich Mahogany and Don Hollywood meet ACX in what is truly an epic comedy seg. Loved this “THIS IS WHY I ALWAYS STAY HIGH!” I lost it. Amazing description painted this one perfect, no hitches, no real mess. Hilariousness.

KKKKRANG - HAHAHAHAHA @ INSIDE JOKES! Why do i love every segment? I dont know, but I do. This one was especially important for Carver for me. He FINALLY feels like a heel in this one, where as in the others he can be misconstrued at an angry face vs heel. Good stuff. Like to see these lock it up.

The Adventures of Sam and Jeanie- This was a lot of fun. Once again realism feels good. Sam is a normal dude doing normal dude things. Bringing back someone who apparently played a role in his upcoming, and showing a human element to the bad ass MMA fighter. Good shit.

The Lone Star - OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! He called himself the ONLY STAR! OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Shits about to get real! SEAN JACKSON IS HERE DAMMIT! WOOOOOOOOOOO!

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #61 IS LIVE!

Who's ready for some queefbacks?!

Welcome to the Show
I was prepping my usual "yup, it was an intro" feedback until Mickel Unlickable showed-up. I like Mikey's revulsion towards the HAWSFITE division. He's the money-motivated pretty guy who lives for the spotlight, so of course he's gonna hate on the old warhorses. Nice little easter egg with Angus dropping "fuckboy" and "bukkake" in the same sentence, too. My big take-away from this is that I really want to see Mikey get in the ring with one of those "punch drunk losers" just to see what happens :p.

Backstage Scuffle
No shade, but this felt very much like "we needed to do something but didn't have that much time, so here it is." Keyes came off a little colourless in his two lines. I mean, it's two lines, but "may I suggest less rap music" felt kinda un-Keyes, but I liked Marie Van Carver here. Simple but effective.

It's All About the Mikey Bucks, Baby!
This is packed with gold. "Why hello, I'm Elise Ares. I'm famous." was probably my favourite though. I love how fame-thirsty these two are. Their stupidity is through the roof, and it's getting to a point where I'm actually worried about their health and safety when not under adult supervision. Funny segment and they can do no wrong for me at the moment. Klein might actually be my favourite character in the group and all he does is scurry around uselessly.

Drinking Buddies
I wrote this with people.

ACX Get Flexxxed
Still loving these ACX development segments and I'm really glad Evan and Justin have decided to pick these characters up again. Funny shit. MOAR PLZ.

KKKRANG
I wrote this with a person.

The Adventures of Sam and Jeanie
Jeanie's been super sporadic, but I'm okay with that. UNCUT means characters don't need to be appearing on every single show any more. Stuff like this adds a level of depth to Horry and elevates him above "confident MMA guy." Nice little explanation of why Jeanie isn't around all that much any more and good to see a different side to Sam.

The Lone Star of Texas is Coming to DEFIANCE

This was a very Eric Dane segment to me. I'm pretty sure that was done on purpose. Flaunting the mansion, the money and the suit is so Dane, and that's really hammered home when Sean calls himself "The Only Star." I like it. As an aside, I'm glad Jackson's rolling with a new nickname here in DEFIANCE too. Good seg to continue the hype train.

UPDATE: DEFtv #64 IS LIVE.

http://defiancewrestling.com/results/115
http://defiancewrestling.com/bs3_pdfexport_results.php?id=115

# Some segments and a match were left out in the cold. This is going to become a thing in the future. I want things done on time, not at the last minute.

# Anyway.

# UNCUT #4 is next this weekend. I will post the show when I wake up on Monday morning, so you got all through Sunday to get any bits and pieces you'd like to add to it. I'd also super duper love it if people used this episode for any sort of final hype for DEFIANCE ROAD. You can still do other fun stuff, just try to remember we got an arc ending PPV coming up.

# Speaking of which. Was thinking of adding an extra week to allow for people to get their stuff done. Meh, not gonna delay things. You got two weeks to write your stuff for DEFROAD, nobody has an excuse to not get their work done.

# REMINDER: Andy and I will be doing a post Mania-weekend "DEFcast" tomorrow. If you wanna call in and give your thoughts on everything from NXT to Mania to the RAW after, we'll jump you in.

# DEFcast on Friday Night as well. We'll go over #64, probably talk about UNCUT, and we'll rundown DEFIANCE ROAD.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #64 IS LIVE!

Of all The Guys: Dane is pissed. Evans doesn’t care. A good exploration, albeit a quick one, of the relationship between Kelly and Eric. Like to see this. Gives us a look into the TD dynamic, as well as the employee/employer relationship between these two.
Rundown: Well done per usual. Signs were good. Liked the Mikey Bucks one. Announcers put over everything.
Hunter vs. Fisherman: Jack Hunter manages to get a win over Fisherman for his first DEF victory. Good Jack Hunter stuff here. Decently entertaining read, as far as Jack stuff goes especially. Good job whomever wrote this, guessing Murr.
Sharp/Harmony: Good little promo to put over the Tag Team match, as well as the competitors history but the ending felt a little weird to me. Just kind of trailed off.
1[SUP]st[/SUP] Trios: Good writing, quick and to the point. Like the Natas story a lot – especially now that I’m involved. Can’t wait for more out of that.
Dahkness: Ty Walker searching out trouble. Ty, be smarter!
Final Audition: SOOOOO good. Pretty funny, over the top without being over the top. Comedy done right. Hats off.
Rain City Ronin: Good win for the new tag team. Looking forward to seeing more from them as we surge forward.
Signed Sealed Delivered: Good hype for the PPV here.
Professionals: Good little interview. Don’t really like the whole Dane looking past them angle, but I get why it is being introduced – because it’s ya know true. Little editing snafu there at the end but we are all human.
Tag Team Match of Harmon/Sharp vs. Donovan/Unlikely: SOOOOOO much text. A few announcer lines help break that stuff up. Good ending, liked the heels going over – 90% of this card. Should be before the PPV. Kendrix is herrrrrre.
Empire Strikes First: Good segment to push the ME tonight, which I still think is a bit of an insane transformation. “I don’t care where I start. I’m not here to win titles” to “Oh here’s a title shot” just seems a bit much. Also didn’t care for the Fourth Wall breaking stuff at the end.
Hollywood Bruvs: Good segment. Glad these two are back together. Let’s get this tag division going!
Dean and Dane vs. Rebel Yell: Wrote this one. Hope all enjoyed.
Shit Goes Sideways: Good segment. Jackson vs. Dane – one more time. I can deal with that. Like the Murray brothers coming out and getting involved too.
The Pain Game: How strong do we need to make Omega look? Like seriously. Undertaker style strong?
2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Trios Match: Hard as hell to write this one as I didn’t really know much about anyone’s character yey or really how they wrestle. Hope everyone enjoyed this.
Warchamber: Good promo from Boxer to Troy, and then the challenge. BOOM stick.
ME: Dan Ryan looks strong heading into the PPV but no Eugene? None at all. Would’ve been nice to have him waiting for DR behind the curtain. Just to have a good moment heading into the PPV.

Go home show could’ve been better, I assume it would’ve been had people gotten their shit that they had TWO WEEKS to do in on time. Uncut should be good and we’ll kill it at the PPV. Don’t fret.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv #64 IS LIVE!

Of all the guys

Continuity is awesome, and I'm glad Dane vs. Jackson isn't over yet. But I wonder if Dane is biting off more than he can chew because, like Kels said - he's got the Murray boys in the wings, too.

The Rundown

'Action packed with issues' is a great phrase. Good rundown as always.

The Little Bruiser vs. Fishboy

Literally the only thing I found fault with in this match was the placement. High comedy such as this should be higher up on the card. Or low comedy. Whichever, dropping the elbow on the bottom rope before getting the win with the Cow DDT is the only way it could've ended.

The Sharp/Harmony Power Hour

Interesting dynamic - Harmony and Sharp wrestled for the SOHER and now they're teaming up. I see them cooperating but can see a fallout down the road. Like the story.

Clash of the Defiants - nice image.

Six Man Tag

I only know one story going into this match but while I enjoyed it, I think LAR getting the win should've been the story going into his PPV match against Curtis Penn. Apologies to the Super Muscle Bros, Natas, and FDJ.

The Dahkness

Tyrone Walker on a somewhat comical toned search for Omega works on two levels - it keeps him in character as a slightly less serious guy facing a serious opponent in Omega. It's a dual toned situation but the levity works here.

Final Audition

The little details are what sell this. The S7, the need for 12 seats - are there even 12 people who like Mikey? :) The PCP intrusion finally visibly annoys Mikey, this will eventually blow up in his face. BUT... BUT - Mikey Ren name drop? Segment of the year, done and sold.

Rain City Ronin vs. Nightmare Express

I'm a fan of everything Rocko Daymon (and Straw by proxy) does, this was a great match. A little long winded compared to everything else on the show, but Strawsma does that, and it's always quality so I can look past. They're poised for a really good spot, I think - and can branch out into singles matches, or the Trios titles if they get one more partner. What's Rezin up to these days? :)

Signed, Sealed, Delivered

Works well as a press conference flashback. I don't think the press conference is used enough. I like Sam Horry as a character, and the staredown with Mushighiara has a 'big fight' dynamic that sells the match pretty well.

Professionals

Great title, personally. The Murrray brothers have an appropriate sense of humor and sense of determination against Dane and Blobert at the PPV. Sells Bobby as a serious opponent, which is always good for business, even when Blobby isn't serious. :)

Harmony and Andy Sharp vs. Mikey and Jake Donovan

I liked the flow of this one, and am looking forward to seeing where Harmony and her belt goes from here but KENDRIX KENDRIX KENDRIX. The Hollywood Bruvs are together again, and all is right with the world.

The Empire Strikes First

Co-wrote with Lindz. Lotso fun. If the majority decide they don't like the fourth wall break I won't do it again, but Cally is decidedly non-pro and always wonders why there are people with cameras in the room.

Hollywood Bruvs

Totally honest, I skipped this segment completely but am calling it the best segment of the entire fed arc. Except for Kendrix asking "if that even is your real name?" Combat flashbacks, PTSD... don't do that again. But this is going to be the most fun tag team to hate, ever.

Eric Dean vs. Rebel Yell

Quick and dirty. Just as much of a preview to the PPV as the Murrray boys earlier in the night. But it was all just a setup to the air tonight.

When Shit Goes Sideways

I love this. Eric Dane is the heel against the Murrray boys but the babyface against Sean Jackson. My only real criticism is that the fans didn't reflect this. With Jackson, Dane, and then Murrray showing up at the end of it, I can see how the fans would be conflicted - but they should still be loud. The back and forth is quick and dirty, though, and even though it's a feud that started with the mormons, they got every one of the Defiance Faithful caught up in about twenty seconds.

The Pain Game

Omega being like JAWS when the shark isn't onscreen works perfectly.

Box, Angel, Carver vs. Lindz, Dusty, Keyes

Good match, well written - my only suggestion would be a little more emotional movement in the description. I know it was really loaded with hype for the PPV so it was probably the best it could've been getting everyone's stuff in. Personal preference, that's all.

Warchamber Challenge

This was what the previous match was leading to - love the hype for the match. Am I wrong in thinking that the past four shows have more heat for Box vs. Troy than Ryan vs. Dewey's rematch?

Dan Ryan vs. Impulse

Mine. I don't believe Brunk had any changes to make. Hope everyone enjoyed.

Overall

This PPV is going to be awesome.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - UNCUT #4 IS LIVE. DEFIANCE ROAD IS NEXT!

Instead of doing feedback on every show (fuck you, I'm lazy as shit) I'm going to "feedback" the PPV line-up.

Jack Hunter vs El Trebol Jr. - What can I say? Shit's been brilliantly funny. I'm a comedy nerd (like easily 65% of my sizable vinyl record collection is spoken word, improve and stand-up stuff, so I can back up that statement #hipsterasfuck) and for a looooong time I handled my self-named character and "BRAZEN talent" Walter Levy as a comedy tag team in WfWA way back when. Well written/consistent comedy is the hardest thing to do in this game. Can't wait to read the culmination of all this craziness on the show.

Henry Keyes vs Van Carver - Not much else I can say, Jason kicked the door (back) in this arc. When I sat back and looked at the field of new writers Jason... even while having a tenured DEF character in his back pocket... decided to start from scratch. Something I absolutely always appreciate. I knew immediately making THAT Van's story would be a great road for this character to walk, and knowing what quality writing Jason puts out I figured he'd be a perfect sort to associate Jane with. I like this story so far, Jason's really done well on the prop boards. I'd REALLY like to see more from Keyes side of things leading up to the PPV. I'm begging to see some Keyes RP's on the prop board, there's so much world there to explore and as I've always said, with minimal effort Keyes could easily be higher up the card considering how over he is as a character with the group. Should be a good match.

Sam Horry vs Mushigihara - Like the last match, this angle is one of those that really represents the "competitive" aspect of an angled fed... write bigger better stuff, scramble each arc to get your shit over, it might not be "RP for RP" but "creativity vs. creativity" over not just one show but a whole arc. I think it manages to make the "stakes" even higher, personally. Horry has been slow to get over with me, but since he's turned the "fight team / MMA" schtik up a few notches I'm feeling it a lot more. Mushi, much like Keyes, with just a little more consistency could be top of the card. This one could be a wild read if they're really spending some time on the match.

Curtis Penn vs LAR - Can't ask for a better heel opponent for your first arc than Curtis Penn. LAR is another character I think some news/prop board work could do wonders for. UNCUT too, obvs. Just want more character, more looks at who this guy is and what he wants. Once look at his bio and there's a mountain of background waiting to be peppered into your arcs. We need more pure tough guy babyfaces like LAR, make it happen cap'n.

Omega vs MABOITY
- Make it short and bloody, boys. lol Omega is one of those characters I want to see handled so carefully, with the right series of storylines and smart booking Omega could be endless amounts of fun as DEF's big bad top of the card boogeyman.

Mikey Unlikely vs Andy Sharp - I want Mikey's PPV entrance to be... something. I don't know what, but there's opportunity here to milk his sports entertainment fueled fame and fortune in wonderful over the top ways. Really really focus on how much the fans loath Mikey, that's where the money is. Never forget the "fourth man" in any DEF match... the Faithful. Considering Unlikely's sports entertainment style I'm really interested to see how this one will read. I love old school cheatery heel shenanigans. This arc has been so consistent with so many top notch segs. Really good job guys. If this match ends up being as good as what you two have done so far you're both golden.

SOHER - Harmony is another one that could us a little character work on the news/prop boards now and again. IMO no character should live exclusively on DEFtv cards. Uncut obviously helps that, but little short news bites about something they're doing or "looks behind the scenes" with a short RP can do wonders to building your characters "world" a little bit. Donovan is another one, I'd love to read a Jake Donovan RP. See the characters thought process as he's "evolving."

The Brothers Murray vs "Eric Dean" - I'll refrain from blowing Justin, Murr and Bobbert as we all know how great they all are. So I'll just say, can't wait to see how this one wraps up.

Team HOSS vs Dusty Griffith, Frank Dylan James & Jason Natas - This match shows how goddamn deep our roster is, I mean my God. We've all told James how sad we are he's "retiring Dusty" but honestly... he can without reservation, just due to how many top flight writers and characters we've amassed the last couple months. This should be a fun read.

WARCHAMBER- *lightning, thunder, widows wailing, glass breaking, fingers on chalkboard, babies crying*

FIST - It sucks donkey balls Damien got caught full in the face with adulthood the last number of months. I've emailed back and forth with him and he's SUPER down for the next arc (for those in the know, yay right?! for those not, keep watching) and he apologizes for being a shadow ninja lately. A temporary code read situation at work, something like that, really took him away from everything apparently. Brunk's done an admirable job keeping this puppy moving forward. I think with a blow it out both pants legs match will make up for any perceived "missing time/pieces" this arc might have ended up with. A slick news piece, maybe a UFC style press conference might be in order? Slash, if D can swing it I'd love to see a RP from Eugene addressing... well, everything. Either on card or before on the prop board or something.

Looking forward to the show!

Are you Damien's representative or something? Because I haven't heard a peep out of him since mid-March. Nice to hear he's been in touch with you, though.

I'm gonna offer up a primer for people in the future when they get busy.

"Hey, work is kicking my ass even worse than expected. I know it’s tough, but can you cover the rest of the arc for me?"

That took me thirty seconds to compose, as I stand here at the baseball field before my son's game.

Also, express your apologies to the person you flaked on before someone else decides to be your advocate and do it for you.

That is the absolute nicest way I can manage to say what I really want to say right now.

Exactly three sentences of my post were addressed to you, Evan. And, I accused you of doing something wrong in exactly zero of them.

While we're on the subject though, next time you feel the urge to apologize for someone who didn't ask you to apologize for them, don't. Because it makes that person look bad, and makes you look like a clueless dolt.

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - UNCUT #4 IS LIVE. DEFIANCE ROAD IS NEXT!

Ok, back to the Feedback.

This is for DEFtv #64:

Of all the guys

I realize what the point of this is. It's a little flat for me just because I don't know if I care about UTA shit. BUT -- I'm generally big fan of anything Justin writes, so I'm on board.

The Rundown

This rundown truly ran things down. Like.... DOWN.

The Little Bruiser vs. Fishboy

Not sure this should have been the opening match. It was enjoyable and great writing, but it feels more like a change of pace mid-show comedy match than an opener.

The Sharp/Harmony Power Hour

World building. I feel you. Sharp is good times. Seems like a big deal. Harmony is Harmony. She's plateauing a bit for me, but I'm still with her.

Six Man Tag

Good stuff. Really concise writing, in my opinion. I'm still getting into the storyline, through no fault of the characters involved. I just need to dig into it more. But I really like pretty much everyone here.

The Dahkness

Ha. Ty is another guy I'm a mark for. When he's not on the show, I miss him. Like that this story is getting some run on this show.

Final Audition

Mikey Unlikely is by far the greatest character in the history of e-fedding. Maybe even the greatest character in the history of gaming of any kind. Seriously, he makes the rest of us look like a hobo.

YOU HAPPY???

Rain City Ronin vs. Nightmare Express

My man, Strawsma. Reading a long Strawsma match is like mom's home cooking. So glad he's here. Super big fan, obviously. A tad too long for a summary style, but look, when it's good, it's good. So... it's good.

Signed, Sealed, Delivered

I heard the criticism on the podcast about this segment. It didn't really bother me as much as it did those guys, but I see the point. I do wonder how much character development the Sam Horry character has gone through and how much Sam the handler has worked on this to make sure it makes sense in a logical way regarding how a real human being goes through these life progressions. That seems to be the most criticized part of the characterization, although I'm not as down on it as some seem to be. I think it just needs some tweaking.

Professionals

Who thought Miles and Mayfield here? Anyone? Beuller? Fan of the Murrays and Blobby, too for that matter. The fun of this is just in reading it, because I'm invested in the characters.

Harmony and Andy Sharp vs. Mikey and Jake Donovan

I have no idea who Kendrix is. A partner in crime for Mikey I suppose. I am clueless to these newbies and their past-fed alliances. Still, MIKEY IS THE GREATEST CHARACTER OF ALL TIME.

So there's that.

The Empire Strikes First

Two of my favorite handlers ever doing some world building. So important for later events. This kind of thing is vital, and it was well done.

Hollywood Bruvs

Why is there another segment with Mikey Unlikely?

OH YEAH. BECAUSE HE IS THE GREATEST CHARACTER OF ALL TIME. THAT'S WHY.

Dane and Dean vs. Rebel Yell

Good job on the writeup, Jason. Enjoyable for what it was, setting up future events. Good stuff.

When Shit Goes Sideways

Hmm, UTA stuff I guess. Well, I like the people in it.

The Pain Game

Like Harley Quinn says in Suicide Squad. "Are you the devil?"

Yep.

Box, Angel, Carver vs. Lindz, Dusty, Keyes

Shenanigans and ballyhoo!!! I don't envy the writer. The job was done, but this looked like a challenge to get complete.

Warchamber Challenge

If you don't think this match will deliever, you don't know these characters/handlers.

Dan Ryan vs. Impulse

Pete asked to write this and I didn't change a thing. I almost always have something to change in matches I didn't write that involve my character, but not this one. Goes to show you that as long as Pete and I have known each other, he has a really good grasp on what Dan Ryan is all about. Told the story we wanted and leads to good things later, not to mention world building between Ryan and Impulse themselves. Thanks, Peter. :)

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - UNCUT #4 IS LIVE. DEFIANCE ROAD IS NEXT!

Brunk brings up a good point in this... Mikey is the best character ever! (jk)

The Utah stuff tho - I love how the Murrays and Justin/Bobby have transitioned from UTAH to DEF. the feud is fluid and constant and hasnt wavered despite changing "venues". A stellar way to transition if you ask me! The model even? That said, we have all been here for over a month (right?) Mikey has now been here for an entire arc. We should probably stop mentioning the UTAH. We get it... (Insert random wrestler here) came from Utah! YAY! you should be bringing that up in your intro piece, and maybe for a couple weeks but eventually... the references dont mean shit. youve been in DEF for an Arc. you're now a DEF star, why we still talking UTAH?

(This message does not apply to Kendrix (Steven) or S. Jackson (Mike) as they both are just making their debuts.)

Re: DEFIANCE ROAD ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - UNCUT #4 IS LIVE. DEFIANCE ROAD IS NEXT!

# Want to thank everyone for busting their collective asses to get this show done.

# I tried my best to make sure everything flows together. If I missed anything, I apologize, my eyes started going cross. Hopefully it all works out!

# Alright. We're taking a week off starting now.

# So I expect some goddamned FEEDBACK!

# There will be an UNCUT this weekend. I would like for as many people as possible to submit a segment for this next episode. I would also like for all submissions to be direct responses to what went down during DEFIANCE ROAD. The UNCUT after can return to the more open ended format.

# After the week has concluded, we're going to start diving into setting up the DEFCON arc. This is our big "year ended" (in terms of the DEFIANCE calendar). So I want to make sure that things run as smoothly as possible for this arc.

# Anyway. I'm sure there's more, but for now, relax for a spell. Read the show, hopefully enjoy the show, FEEDBACK THE SHOW, and we'll be getting things up and running SOONER THAN LATER.
