Drunken Tiger

One year prior
Seoul, South Korea
Ssireum (Korean Traditional Wrestling) Championship Tournament

* All dialogue translated from Korean to English.

Announcer 1: It has been eight rounds of great action, and now only two competitors remain. On one side we have the great Kim Tae Jun. On the other, it’s the two-time winner of Top Honor from 2003 and 2004 trying to repeat for the third straight year. Choi Hong Man, the pride of Korea, has already made the announcement that he plans to move past Ssireum and on to other things if he is able to win again this year.

Announcer 2: There is no doubt in my mind that he is more than capable of doing just that. Mister Choi is a freak of nature. He stands six feet and eight inches tall and weighs three hundred and fifty pounds (converted from metric...). He has been labeled the “Drunken Tiger” for his ability to drink ungodly amounts of alcohol after even the toughest of matches.

A1: It makes no difference. Drunken Tiger has told the world he wants to represent our great country on the world stage. The real question is not whether or not he will win, but where he will go after this.

(Drunken Tiger continues his unbeaten ways, just as the announcer proclaimed he would, by defeating a skilled but smaller opponent in the final round of the tournament... For the third straight year he has obtained the Chonha Chongsa, or Top Honors...)

(Two hours later he attends a press conference so that he can give his special announcement... He is in an all black sweat suit with the hood kicked back off of his head... )

Drunken Tiger: As you all should know by now, I plan on moving past our great sport of Ssireum and taking my fighting and grappling skills to the world stage. I have achieved great success at home in my country’s traditional sport, but I feel that I have so much more to offer to the Korean people. Everyone calls me the “Pride of Korea”, and I feel that I should live up to that title. My plans are unselfish in nature, as selfishness is not becoming of a Korean Wrestling Champion. My desire is to bring great honor and respect from all of the countries of the world to Korea.

Notice that I didn’t say North or South Korea. We are one. The Korean people must unify behind a common front if we are to ever obtain what the Western World has held from us for over fifty years: Reunification!

After much deliberation, I have decided that my ultimate goal is to be a professional wrestler.

(The crowd at the press conference starts buzzing about the announcement... Drunken Tiger holds his hand up as if to show the crowd that his is unfinished...)

DT: However... before I become a professional wrestler, I need to know I am truly ready for that big step. So, without any further ado I announce that for the next year I will tour with the K-1 Mixed Martial Arts Circuit.

(Once again the press conference crowd explodes into buzzing and murmurs... A few reporters hold out their hands, attempting to get Korean behemoth to answer their questions...Drunken Tiger doesn’t acknowledge any of them...)

DT: Wish me luck.

To my Korean brothers and sisters, I humbly ask you to support my decision. I promise that I will not fail you.

Dae Han Mingook Mansai! (Long Live Korea!)

(Reporters continue to try obtaining his attention as the Pride of Korea gets up, entourage in tow, and leaves the conference... Fade to black...)

Who is Blade?

Blade grapples with one of trainers and quickly throws him against the ropes. Blade slaps on the crossface as the trainer returns making the trainer tap out in a few minutes. He quickly wave in another trainer who soon gets in the ring. Blade quickly locks up with him and quickly starts to work on his leg. A few moments later Blade has him in the sharpshooter and then Blade breaks the hold.

Blade then exits the ring and sits down on a bench grabbing a water bottle and starts to drink it looking at the camera as he wipes the sweat from his brow.

Blade: Now let me get this straight I am supposed to wrestle a drunk who thinks he can wrestle. Son, let me tell you who I am my name is Blade and I was trained by some of the most legendary wrestlers of all time. Of course I'm not going to mentioned them but let's just say I can go toe to toe with anyone in this business. Now I respect that you are from Korea and you won a ton of tourneys over there. But over here in the good old USA it all comes down to two things and that is if you are tough enough and if you are skilled enough. You see,Tiger, where I come from they called me the toughest and best submission wrestler in the game and trust me it's a name that I earned because I can make anyone tapped. The two moves I showed in the ring is only the tip of the iceberg. I can do far more then those two moves. Check the resume, son, I am the best at what I do.

Blade drops the bottle and walks off toward the shower as the camera turns off.

Here I Am”
Drunken Tiger

(Present day... The man who was just recently introduced as Drunken Tiger is in front of a Major Championship Wrestling backdrop... He’s enormous... An amazing physique is coupled with massive size... He’s wearing an all black jumpsuit and silver colored amateur wrestling shoes... The “Pride of Korea” is ready to give his first words since being accepted into MCW... Strangely enough, his English is really good...)

Drunken Tiger: After a year of fighting on the K-1 Mixed Martial Arts Circuit, I have arrived at my ultimate goal... Professional Wrestling. I have completed in the course of a year what my fellow countrymen have not been able to do over the course of our three thousand year history...

I’ve invaded both Japan and the United States of America.

It’s upsetting that Korea doesn’t have it’s own organization for which I can rise to the top... but when I think about it, it’s only fitting that I hit the ground fighting in these two countries. I invaded Japan, the country who for years oppressed my people and attempted to wipe out our language, traditions, history, and culture. Now I am in the USA, the country that currently occupies my nation’s capital even though we are a sovereign and democratic people.

Where I have punished the Japanese on the K-1 circuit, I will do the same with the Americans here in professional wrestling...

(He points back to the MCW backdrop behind him...)

... and I start with Major Championship Wrestling.

Do not be confused. This is not an attempt to belittle your people and destroy anything you stand for, although I honestly don’t agree for much of it. This is me bringing honor and respect to my people who count on me, as their pride, to represent them. To bring their issues and concerns to the forefront.

No longer are the democratic people of Korea willing to be viewed as a diminutive people who speak through funny Asian accents and confuse R’s with L’s.

Listen to my English... does it seem like I am flawed? I learned English in Korea, where I have spent my entire life until a year ago.

No longer will the democratic people of Korea tolerate jokes about eating dog, as if our culture should be something to be ashamed of. We are proud of our heritage and all of our culture and traditions. It’s time you people moved on to something a little more original.

(He pauses a moment before making his last point...)

No longer will the democratic people of Korea be content with the dividing of our country along the 38th parallel. We are a unified nation that will dictate our own future. We are not happy any longer with the Demilitarized Zone... the most heavily guarded border on the face of the planet. We want to be reunified!

When you look at me and my impressive size and strength, think about Korea. Remember the great nation that has been the brunt of jokes and stereotypes for years. It will serve you well, because after a match with me each and every one of those stereotypes will be obliterated!

(Promo ends... Scene fades...)
