Re: MAXIMUM DEFIANCE ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv 69 IS LIVE! FEED THE BACKS!

The Rundown

Evan did this literally while installing a crematorium. His hair is only slightly singed.

DEFMAX Round Three: Kendrix v. Pastore

Good job here by a handler who kinda got stood up by his writing partner. And, he put the other guy over. So that’s a thing I definitely noticed.

I’ma Keel You

This was your basic well delivered dressing room jumping scene. Solid and it pushed the story forward. Had a grammar issue at the beginning that probably should have been caught in proofreading, but nothing major.

Focus

Mikey tries to life Kendrix’s spirits. Good entertainment, set to the music of Wham! At least, that’s the music I was hearing in my head as I read it.

Pop Culture Phenoms v. The Barrio Boys

I love Angus’ reaction to all of this. Always makes me laugh. And there’s nothing like a little light racism to brighten up everyone’s day.

Crushproof

One thing I want to say right here before I go much further. More than once in this show I’ve seen dialogue written to hit us over the head with pointing out that something happened earlier in the show. This is a little clumsy and too obvious for me. Continuity is important, but don’t have the announcers be so obvious with it. I don’t need you to tell me what a guy did earlier in the show. I want you to describe what’s happening now as a result. Just a small point.

That said, other than that very very minor gripe it was good dialogue leading to a little physicality tease. I like it. Good progression.

Fashionably Late

Lots of attacks this week. Not that this is a bad thing. Everyone is pushing their stories forward with these attack segs though, and I feel like we need to think outside the box a little on how to tell our stories. Think about other ways than this to get to where you’re going. I like this segment in a bubble, but after two other attack segs already, I’m getting a little weary of the same thing. Think about it.

DEFMAX Round Three: Mikey Unlikely v. Levi Cole

Solid TV match. I liked all of the action in the text blocks. I don’t mind these blocks at all, especially on TV cards. On a PPV/Supershow I would want it to be cut up a little more but it was good here. Strong effort.

Loss of Control

Nice nutso segment here. I like the character a lot, and I’m enjoying getting to know this character week to week after knowing Justin’s work so well over the years.

The Heart of the Matter

A simply great babyface promo. It hit all the right notes.

Oh No, They Say He’s Got to Go, Go Go Gigantor

I writed these.

Perfection v. CODENAME: Reaper

It’s a little weird for me that Reaper attacked Perfection and then was allowed a forfeit win without repercussions here. Kelly usually steps in to make changes in a situation like this, makes the attacker jump through some hoops instead of letting this sort of thing stand on its own. But – I’ll wait and see how the story plays out.

Your DEFMAX Champion

Great. Excellent exchange here. And you trademarked the water bottle. Smart.

DEFMAX Round Three: Cayle Murray v. Impulse

Excellent main event worthy match. The celebration was corny, but it fits Cayle perfectly, so it was perfectly corny. I like good babyfaces. There aren’t many left.

Wait Wut!?

Setting up a title match with some more Mikey goodness. What else is there to say? Good storytelling.

Special Delivery

Lindsay wrote theees. So good.

Parking Lot Purgatory

Lindsay wrote 90% of this. I wrote the end.

DEFMAX Round Three: Bronson Box v. Curtis Penn

And this is how we do a main event. Just an excellent job, Evan. I know you were really busy this week, but this is excellent. I’m not sure how much Jon wrote, so I’ll commend him too. It was a great match and a great ending.

Re: MAXIMUM DEFIANCE ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv 69 IS LIVE! FEED THE BACKS!

Not gonna go line by line, but I think this show set us up nicely for Maximum Defiance. The top three programs all moved forward towards a boiling point (LT/DR, DEFMAX finals, Mikey vs Impulse), we got more FDJ/Natas fire happening, Perfection and (I assume) Reaper.

The bounty on the PCP was a nice touch, but I would've liked to have seen someone try to cash in on it at this show already, maybe a Jack Hunter or Lil Bruises cameo failure? But that's the only thing I think we were lacking.

So... let's get moving on MAXDEF and get back to doing what we do.

Re: MAXIMUM DEFIANCE ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv 69 IS LIVE! FEED THE BACKS!

KENDRIX VS. FRANK PASTORE

Good match, both come off strong and Pastore goes into the PPV looking good. SEG is always good for the funnies so good to see some classic heel brutality out of them as well. And I'm sure this sets up more moving forward for the HollyBruv tandum moving foward. #Innit.

IM'A KEEL YOU

Good quick seg. Solid banter between Natas and the Brothers Murray. Frank's inclusion make for a good burst in and booking. Assumed since the post DEFCON but it was played nice and slow.

FOCUS

HollyBruvWood! I love that JFK isn't only mad he lost, but ALSO that he lost in a Boring fashion. That ... that's BRAND identity. I may be reading to much into it but this is the second (maybe third? I forget) that its seems like there might be some descension in the SEG. It aways clears up by the end of the segement, but seems like it might be there.

FRAPPPPPS!

POP CULTURE PHENOMS © VS. THE BARRIO BOYS

No douche quotes after labor day, got it. Great classic heel heat as usual. Ravishing Rick would be proud. Taking shots at Marshalls? Damn, that cuts a bit too deep. Didn't dig the microphone time going over into the next team but overall entertaining match and PCP continues to look as horrible and infectious as the drug they share an acronym with.

CRUSHPROOF

Writes it.

FASHIONABLY LATE

I feel bad that Douglas/Pastore was the second attack of the night and went back to back with this one. Although I felt D/F was structured a touch different ... so far this seems to be my only criticism with angle fedding. Too keep it
interesting everyone can't know what everyone is doing and therefor sometimes we'll have double up... or triple up. This certainly served it's purpose though. Ratcheted up the angst between Jimbo and Reapy. And as an attack seg it was quick with I like being that it is leading into a later match.

MIKEY UNLIKELY VS. LEVI COLE [BLOCK A]

Big mark for Mikey and the SEG in general. Good match, I like the big parenthetical action. Makes a match go by faster and feel more real time in the reading, I think. Good match though. Mikey seems to be trying to lean more toward wrestling, with the training segs and his preformances... will this be the undoing of the SEG??

LOSS OF CONTROL
Reaper is crazy, b! Good addendum to the previous attack. Gives the full show more continuity. And reminds anyone who forgot Reaper is a man possessed!

THE HEART OF THE MATTER

Great Cayle segment. I think the last paragraph really nails it and makes it a super passionate face appeal to the
crowd.

OH NO, THEY SAY HE'S GOT TO GO, GO GO GIGANTOR

Good humor and a great turn for an interview segment. Clearly Ryan and Troy are going to have a knock drag out at

MAXDEF.

PERFECTION VS. CODENAME: REAPER

I like the odd start. Watching it live would give off the feeling of not sure whats going on and in a predetermined
sport would certainly add some reality to the precedings. And given these two have taken up three slots, counting this one, its nice and quick. Looking forward to a PPV blowout of a rematch!

YOUR DEFMAX CHAMPION!
Love Mikey's huborous here. Impluse stoic as ever but direct. Good quick segment clearly setting up future doings!

CAYLE MURRAY VS. IMPULSE

Great match. Really enjoyable read. The ending was labored but cool. Reminded me of the Eugene Dewey deal at DEFCON if I am remembering correctly, if not forgive me DEFCON was post just prior to my arrival.

WAIT WUT!?

"Haven’t we seen this guy enough for one night"! Perfect. Match set, more Mikey the better. LEGO.

SPECIAL DELIVERY

Great set up and tease. "Someone's" medical has clearance to land. What comes next should be crazy.

PARKING LOT PURGATORY

Long set up to get Dan outside but read well.. and once he did; Bong! Great action and as intense as the marathon
brawling from last show.

BOX VS. PENN
Main event, I really settled in for a long read... but holy shit this breazed by. Scanning it afterward seems short anyway but read like it. Only question, Box "used his 5 count," I always thought this rule to be a release BEFORE the count of five rather than after and you have carte blance to choke a muthaf--ka for 5 semi-unadulerated seconds.. or maybe I read the dialouge line wrong. Or I've misunderstood a super loose arbitray rule in a "sport" with little to no rules... Not sure. Come on, we have a newsletter! The old tried and true Blood Stiletto finish, eh? No but this was a really awesome match, the false finish on the Curtis plex and the aforementioned stiletto, the clutch, the arm drop. Good shit. Only thing minor gripe I have is wasn't there a very similar finish last week... or maybe the week before? That might be completly off base and or a null point with all the attack situations on this card, but all in all I dug this.

Maybe next arc, all shows will be one line descriptions of winners and losers, except for matches/segments involving someone who posted feedback for the previous show.

I'm looking for evidence you read the show. That's all. Really, that's not asking much.

I apologize for my lack of feedback on this Arc. All the crap that went on with me this past month and a half has sapped my motivation. I have to commend Jay for posting the stuff I wrote prior to what happened because I wasn't even able to do that. I'm trying to get my act together on here, but it's hard. I'm hoping soon the switch will hit back on for me.

Re: MAXIMUM DEFIANCE ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv 69 IS LIVE! FEED THE BACKS!

Beef - Something is better than nothing edition.
Note = In the future my beef may not be as detailed as prior weeks. I have taken on more responsibility lately and have a little less time, but still think beef is important part of this game. Makes me sad that not everyone agrees.

Lets get this out of the way.
Focus - Wrote it with Stevie. Enjoy

Mikey Unlikely vs Levi Cole- I wrote it. Enjoy (went back to the way DEFtv matches were written when I joined, will probably be my style moving forward aside from PPVs.)

Your Defmax Champion - Wrote it with Peta. Enjoy

Wait Wut? - Wrote it, Enjoy!

The Rest
Really enjoyed JFK/Pastore match. Steven did a great job writing this whole thing. Loved the inclusion of Mikey and his antics. The finish is great, and bleeds into a later seg. Let me go over that one too. “Focus” was awesome to write with Stevie. I loved that Kendrix was so mad about being made to be a bore. The boring finish was an excellent in character gripe.

The early Murrrdom was lit. Like the Drunk bros friendship continuing on TV, until Frank ruins it that is. Nice build up for the PPV.

PCP vs The Barrio Boys, was actually an excellent match up. Very entertaining on the comedy front as well as the wrestling front. STAY IN ESCUELA! Will anyone take the belts from PCP?

The Reaper vs Perfection was ever present here too. Good way to close out the arc heading into the PPV. 2 segs plus a “match” way to go guys. Really dug it and am into the angle.

Later Cayledom interview with Zaney was good too. Liked the way he talked about the multiple scenarios and the multiple ways this could go tonight. Even calling Mikey technical! What!? And Squid shout outs. That one had me rolling.

Dan Ryan seg.
Ive enjoyed Dan Ryan this arc. Although the feud is really hurting in my eyes without Lindsey Troy on TV much. Dan Ryan has been battling NPCs and the story makes sense, but its just missing something. This promo was fire tho, and I hope we see a hell of a clash at DEFMAX.

Impulse vs Cayle
This was a great match, and Angus was on his A Game on commentary. Great way to write a match between two faces where both men get extended periods of highlights to their style. Lots of close finishes, and a great moment for Cayle to enjoy winning the A Bracket at the end. Until Mikeys music hits anyway.

Glad to see Troy back in the saddle, and coming back with ninja stars! Christie Zane that little HARLOT! Shes on the payroll! UNBIASED MUCH!?

Main Event - Fucking awesome finish. I dont want to overshadow the match because it was really good, but that finish was spectacular. Katze taking up sides with Penn! WTF!? WOW. Never saw that shit coming. Awesome!

Re: MAXIMUM DEFIANCE ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv 69 IS LIVE! FEED THE BACKS!

Ok, I'mma do something a little different. I'm going to go through the Maximum DEFIANCE card and sort of comment on each angle leading up to the show to avoid repeating myself over and over giving atta boys to each segment on each card.

DOUGLAS VS. PASTORE
Both guys have produced good work and did well to hit the ground running, debuting their characters in well written memorable ways. Pastore with the big splash booked into DEF+MAX, the classic "rookie spoiler" in a tournament like this. Had a lot of fun writing the character, especially the triple threat with Penn. Came together really well in the end. Can't wait for the match, but I'm also curious where they each go from here.

S.E.G. vs. The VWC

The eternal DEF struggle with booking out tag/trios titles. This is the sort of booking I love see come together sort of "organically"... all the OOC trials and tribulations, my sort of random spastic developmental booking, etc we end up with this killer six man that could easily be a jumping off point for future feuds / stories to carry the tag division(s)... FYI, if anyone has any solid ideas for tag/trios angles this whooooole division is wide open.

PERFECTION vs. REAPER
So much good storytelling and characterization despite a lot of IRL shenanigans. It happens. Should be a really entertaining / unique match considering the participants. Really hope the match writer(s) dip into both characters deep wells of uniqueness and give us something that really stands out from the rest of the ADRENALINE/SUPER SERIAL matchups on the card. Two more DEFnewbs that for the most part killed it since their entrance onto the roster. Really hope to see more from Reaper going forward, there so much potential there.

JASON NATAS vs. FDJ
Ahhhhhh the poor Onslaught title. Such a good idea that, a lot like our tag title attempts, sort of stumbled out of the gate. But thankfully we have incredible characters like Frank to carry the load when it comes to our hair-brained ideas. I think the general "plan" for the D.O.C. is set... but I'll say this, if ANYONE has a really good idea for the Onslaught title / division... speak up. There's several opportunities on the proverbial table for new writers right now to help their character(s) stand out. Just gotta' take 'em.

ANDY MURRAY vs. BRONSON BOX
Mama said knock you out.

MIKEY UNLIKELY vs. IMPULSE
Few writers have impressed me like Mikey has. Having been exposed to Unlikely for my cup of coffee writing for UTA I had my initial doubts but got-DAMN has this character exceeded expectation. I love the feel of this SOHER feud, very old school. Classic self-absorbed shit-heel vs. fiery veteran babyface. The utilization of the propaganda board by Mikey, couldn't make me happier. Love when people still have it in them to drop some hot RP fiyah. Can make a world of difference in getting people to read and look forward to your on card stuff. The stuff on Twitter from both camps too, really proof of what we've been saying... you have more than just on card to get you and your character/angle over. News, propaganda, Twitter. Excellent story guys.

PENN vs. SQUIDBOY - (DEF*MAX as a whole)
What a grind, right? Yoof... worth it, the way it shakes things up a little at the "start of the year" but goddamn is it nice to get it over with and move back into regular arcs. I thought, even with the hectic re-re-booking that the tourney was rock solid. Got over new guys, weaved into several different characters arcs, provided unique match-ups we haven't seen before (Box/Kendrix, the triple threat and Box/Penn were so much fun to write up) Andy and Jon both absolutely deserve the two top spots this year after the work they've produced this year. This one should be a lot of fun to read.

DAN RYAN vs. LINDSAY TROY
How much pud pulling do these two need, honestly? You two produce brilliant work over and over again without any drams or arm flailing or crying or anxiety... something I haven't quite mastered. lol Obviously can't wait to read the next chapter of this bloodfeud. Each PPV main it's like waiting for the next Song of Ice and Fire book this shit is so well written. Is Troy the mother of dragons? Is Ryan REALLY the god of tits and wine? TUNE INTO MAXIMUM DEFIANCE TO FIND OUT!

I've been under a lot of work stress the last few months, so public apologies to everyone for being more disappeary and unavailable than usual. You're all patience and overall coolness is much appreciated. <3

Full disclosure: this is the very first Defiance show I have read from start to finish. Painfully unaware of history, who is who, inside jokes, etc. Oh but boy, shall I learn!

rundown:

Informative and fun! Mission accomplished!

Scott Douglas vs Frank Pastore
enjoyed the match! Size and style difference was well-highlighted and conveyed. Midorikawa's run-in and surprise turn on Douglas WAS a surprise! Loved the midori-sour pun. Will be interesting to see where Pastore goes from here as it seems Midorikawa and Douglas are now on collision course.

PCP & Kendrix vs Viking War Cult
SEG are clearly a ton of fun. Match was solid. Some really original moments. I will say, only bc it really stood out in this particular segment, I was surprised to see how heavily the F-bomb seems to be leaned on on these events, especially after reading the "this is defiance" doc. I'm no prude (I'm actually really a potty mouth, lol). And I get that you can't censor the crowd... I dunno. Seemed excessive and distracting in spots to me. The team I expected to win won! A lot of momentum!

In the end
Always dug Impulse, mostly from afar. Excited to have a ringside seat!

Perfection vs Reaper
Classic story of the ref who can be "bought"... but some creative moments in there! Liked when he leaned into the ropes to keep them out of reach. Reaper is screwed and Perfection bucks the system once more!

Good guy island
This being my first exposure to the some of this group, forgive me but the chatter here moved quickly and my brain was working to keep straight who was who - but again, I chalk that up to my innate and slightly adorable noobness. By the time it wrapped up, I wanted to hang in that locker room - even if I didn't understand half of the references. I'd say that means it was good!

Jason Natas vs Frank Dylan James
hossfiiiight! Love a good brawl! The backstage, earlier-tonight brawl sold to me the grudge that really exists here and this had the feel of the brawl to end it all. When Frank ate the German suplex, quick-kicked-out, sprang up and dropped I had an image of an over-sized ric flair flop and couldn't suppress my grin. This was, to this point, the match I enjoyed the most. Good stuff.

Reaper(s)?
Ohhhh boy. Reaper is looking for someone... and isn't done w Perfection yet? Hmm... got me wondering.

Andy Murray vs Bronson Box
Geeeeez... geeeeeeez. I loved this match too. Hung on every word. There was NO WAY someone could misconstrue the depth of animosity here. Great, great stuff. Even knowing so little about the characters, I was invested. And clearly this isn't over. And I'm glad.

Risky Business
Bronson TERRIFIES me. Carry on.

Mikey Unlikely vs Impulse
Dug Mikey's special entrance. Again - new to the character - but intrigued as all hell. Fantastic match. Emotionally palpable finish that screams "nothing is finished". Loved it.

Locked in
Cayle's focus in the face of his brother being hurt, health hanging in the balance, is impressive - But I read it and wondered if that focus was bravado and if that focus could last...

Cayle vs Penn
This was another solid match. Wasn't sure who would come out with the win. Liked Penn's pre match promo and the fire throughout the match. Handful of tights but a win is a win and a tourney win is a bigger win. Not a good night for the Murray brothers!

Dan Ryan vs Lindsay Troy
Don't know why, but I kind of felt the Troy win coming. But man... great read. I certainly didn't see a Ryan submission coming. Nope. Not me. Humility, indeed.

Really enjoyed it, start to finish. Excited for Jamar and I to stir our mix into the drink.

Rundown:
BE DEF-I-ANT! Love it. Great rundown, provided me with a good amount of background for what's coming up on the PPV and why. I enjoyed it.

SCOTT DOUGLAS vs. FRANK PASTORE

I enjoyed the breakdown of the past few weeks of fighting between Douglas and Gamble, which caused this match to happen. Angus cutting at Douglas was perfect, gave me a good laugh. The obvious thing in this match was the size difference, which I thought well was written. The appearance of MDK was a nice touch to introduce a new wrestler to the scene and obviously spark some things up for the upcoming arc. Enjoyed the match.

SHADY
Some shady business going on, brought to you by none other than Perfection. Obviously this is foreshadowing something to happen later in the evening.

THE POP CULTURE PHENOMS & KENDRIX vs. THE VIKING WAR CULT
Love JFK, love PCP. I'm excited about the potential future of the tag team division and possible new opponents in that divison. As for this match, usual antics by the SEG crew always brings a smile to the face.

YOU CAN'T WRESTLE YOU CAN'T WRESTLE. Ever since I have read cards in DEFIANCE the people that come up with the chants are sometimes funnier than the jokes they write up during the match or segments.

Angus asking someone to cut out the lights I hope that was in reference to the previous Reaper/JFK/Mikey segment. I loved that reference. I knew they were going to win but the overall match flow was great as usual.

IN THE END
Because we're the good guys, and the good guys have to win in the end. Couldn't have said it better, and that's true unless it's Stalker's World.

GRUDGE MATCH: PERFECTION VS. CODENAME: REAPER

Stuff.

GOOD GUY ISLAND
Avengers Assemble. Go good guys?

JASON NATAS (C) VS. FRANK DYLAN JAMES
Good back and forth match. Since i've been in DEF, I've been rooting for Natas. I like the character a lot. Hopefully I get the chance to work with him one day and I am also glad to see he is a title holder. With me missing out on the results for the past few weeks I didn't even realize he was a champ until reading the card. Good match.

REAPER(S)?
More stuff.

ANDY MURRAY vs. BRONSON BOX
The ending of this match, made the story. I knew from previous cards that Box was crazy, but him continuing to keep the submission (the camel clutch to full nelson transition was sick). Box gives no fucks. That was until the Squid showed him and made him scatter. I for see something more coming all of this. Well done bout.

RISKY BUSINESS

Agent/Superstar business relationships are always risky. Good segment here.

MIKEY UNLIKELY © vs. IMPULSE

Not sure who I really want to win in this one. I would be happy with either. I enjoy both characters A LOT and for completely different reasons. WTF Crow's Alley?... Angus' response to the trailer was spot on. Now the match...

As usual you guys always impress, the close pin fall Mikey had with Roll Credits then the foot on the ropes by Impulse was a nice touch. Impulse moving out of the way while Mikey destroys the timekeeper table, also nice. The fact that Impulse won by DQ in the exact manner that he did... Man it was great but also frustrating. I'm looking forward to more between these two.

LOCKED IN
Cayle Murray's statement, now it's time....

DEF*MAX FINALS: CURTIS PENN vs. CAYLE MURRAY
Full disclaimer I've been out of touch with the tournament and the previous DEFtv's due to IRL situations so I had no clue how we got to these two in the finals. But, Penn vs. Murray couldn't be a better Finalist match up. Both are great characters.

I loved Penn talking on the mic before Murray coming to the ring and the fact that Murray interrupted him made it all even better.

A lot of matches tonight had bull shit finishes and this continues that trend, Penn with a fistful of tights, ref doesn't see it and he becomes the DEF*MAX Winner. Great for him. Awesome character.

DAN RYAN © vs. LINDSAY TROY
Ninja stars!! Who's walking out as champ? This is a rematch from last PPV, I thought Troy was going to win last time but I was wrong. And the ending of that match was brutal. I am thinking Troy again on this one simply because it would be satisfying.

Troy making Dan Ryan tap out, that is more satisfying than anything. Great match. Great ending... I can't wait to see what comes up next ARC. Personally excited for my own progression and hope I can participate even more this go around, including feedback. You guys are a great group and glad to be a part of it.

Gonna do my usual longer PPV feedback here. I obviously haven’t done any feedback this arc, and I have my reasons for that, but I’ll likely drift into some general arc comments throughout this. It’s nitpicky, but it’s a DEFIANCE PPV: it’s worth being nitpicky about.

Probably laden with typos but I couldn’t be faffed proofreading a silly feedback doc :).

THE RUNDOWN
  • Don’t usually do these, but Evan deserves a little shout-out for doing these every week. I don’t think it was ever officially delegated: it just kinda became his role, but he does a good job with ‘em.
  • Little extra flavour in this one too, seeing as it’s the PPV and all. Jurassic Park, man. Tremendous.

SHADY
  • I thought this was a dope idea. Like seeing people explore the staff characters’ personalities a little bit. Shields is supposed to be a shady little nugget, so of course he’s gonna listen to Paz here.
  • A little bit of announcer speculation would be good to really sell the intrigue.
  • All in all, it does a really good job of adding an extra wrinkle to the match. After Reaper and Perfection’s previous interactions, I’m now excited to see how the feud ends.

SCOTT DOUGLAS VS. FRANK PASTORE
  • Pastrami’s handler, we hardly knew ye. Always sucks when this happens, but credit to Brian for pulling through.
  • This match is easy to read right off the bat. Shorter action paragraphs with a good blend of action: pretty much my preferred match format right thurr. Readability is super important, particularly on shows of this length. Can’t stress that enough.
  • Angus comes-off really strongly here. He’s being pretty obnoxious throughout, and already has some well-formed opinions on both guys. A lot of newer people really struggle with Angus at first, but there’s nothing to complain about here. Generally, I think a lot of people try to overcomplicate the guy. I’ve always just tried to write him as a loudmouth prick with consistent opinions, nothing more.
  • Textbook start. Makes sense to have the smaller man work patiently for an opening, throwing some offence at the big man, learning what works and what doesn’t work. This did a good job of setting up the giant task ahead of Scott, who was presented well as an underdog.
  • Midway through, and I really don’t have anything to complain about. Solid opening match.
  • It’s just classic stuff. Big guy vs. smaller guy, heel vs. face. Heel distracts the ref, allows his manager to interfere. This stuff always works.
  • If anything, maybe a little context from the announcers would’ve helped. Nothing major, but some brief mentions to previous interactions between the two, some exposition on their motivations, etc. It doesn’t have to dominate the commentary, but a little bit here and there makes everything just that little bit more immersive.
  • I’m cool with MDK’s debut. Kinda came out of nowhere, but sometimes that’s the best way to do it. The swerve makes things interesting, because I have absolutely no idea what his motivations are, and I’m really looking forward to finding out. It’s a shame to see the match end without a decisive finish, but it’s clearly setting-up something bigger, so I can’t complain about it too much.
  • Things do get a little messy towards the end. I think DDK’s reaction to MDK’s appearance is a little flat, and I would’ve liked some more emotion from him there. The final paragraph of action in the post-match could use some breaking-up, too. There’s a lot of things happening without any announcer selling. It’s good stuff, it just needs to be broken-up a little bit.

PCP & KENDRIX VS. VIKING WAR CULT
  • I can already tell that this is going to be zany as fuck. SEG ruled the last PPV, let’s see how they do this time around.
  • What an absolutely fucking stupid entrance from the PCP. I love it, of course. Utter cunts.
  • … and then the crowd telling them to STFU before they even open their mouths. GAWDAYUMIT.
  • The promo is pretty much PCP by numbers, not that that’s a bad thing. Their dedication to sports entertaining is certainly relentless, Elise’s “totally obviously” is still funny, as is her insistence that she and The D are somehow above BRAZEN, when they’re probably the two wrestlers who’d most benefit from a stint down there. Building Kendrix up like he’s Godzilla was pretty incredible too.
  • Whoever used #SWAGS as a verb is a genius.
  • LOL @ the fan throwing the PCP t-shirt back over the rail.
  • Anyway, whatever. This was a fun introduction.
  • The Vikings have the best piece of entrance music ever. My god, that song just fucking rips. Absolutely perfect.
  • I’ve liked this arc from PCP. Thought the open challenges were a great way to fill the gaps given the paucity of tag teams around this spot, and it was cool to see PCP up against a bunch of different teams with different styles. The Vikings are a great set of final bosses, too.
  • That said, I thought the Vikings were woefully undersold here. I didn’t get any kind of threat from them through the announcers’ or the SEG’s reactions. They just kinda come down the ring like a bunch of random wrestler blokes, rather than a band of murderous, Nordic psychopaths. Aside from the optics, it could’ve been anyone coming to the ring.
  • Like the opening exchanges. Lots of fast, fluid action. Great tag fodder. The STOMPSTOMPSTOMP went on entirely too long which makes it glorious, because SEG.
  • It’s good that the match was so quick-fire with its momentum changes. With heels vs. heels, you don’t necessary want to work extended heat segments because who are you supposed to feel sympathetic towards? The Vikings? Could argue that everyone is a de facto face against these SEG dorks, but that’s obviously not true to the Vikings’ characters.
  • Commentary. Me harping on about a lack of commentary is probably becoming a meme at this point, it was really, really thin here. It was patchy in the early stages, but it got sparser as the match progressed, so effectively there are 1-2 minute spells of action where DDK and Angus don’t say a word. There was one point where I think I was reading for a good 5 minutes without a word from the announcers. They’re just as important as the action, and literally everything is diminished without them: story, selling, readability, etc. As a result, I struggled to enjoy this thing anywhere near as much as I would’ve had it been accompanied with robust commentary. A shame.
  • “A clusterfuck of bullshit,” indeed. Good action throughout. I like how Kendrix is being portrayed as the group’s token “wrestler,” and having him take the win was the right decision. I’d like to see him grow gradually more and more frustrated with his stablemates’ complete lack of wrestling acumen and develop a colossal chip on his shoulder because of it. Would make for some fun interactions within the group.
  • All in all, barring my one major critique, I thought this was a solid match all-round and it keeps the SEG train rolling.

IN THE END
  • This segment was clearly put together to provide a buffer between two matches, so it’d be kind of pointless to go into any kind of analysis. Besides, it was like 150 words long. Absolutely fine. Did what it was needed to.
  • Fuck Pete though.

PERFECTION VS. CODENAME: REAPER
  • I’ve enjoyed both characters this arc. I know Justin had some stuff to deal with mid-arc, but Reaper continues to intrigue me, and I think that Lil’ Jimmy Witherhold is a good foil for him. Perfection is a wonderfully despicable cunt: I like having him in DEFIANCE and I’m really interested in what shit he has up his sleeve after the Paz/Shields segment earlier. Good build all-round.
  • Reaper’s entrance was very, very thin. Not everyone has to do the epic PPV entrance, of course, but this felt really unsubstantial. The music hits, and he’s in the ring 50 words later.
  • The balance between action and commentary is strong. The action is crisp and very readable, which I appreciate. Not Big Text Blocks ‘O Doom~! to be found here, which is a good way to earn brownie points with me.
  • The commentary could use some extra juice, though. It’s typically DDK calling the PBP shots, followed up by Angus shitting on Perfection. These are both fine, because that’s what they should really be doing, but a little storytelling, a little selling, and a little analysis would really pad this thing out a bit. I think it’s a good implementation of the announcers, particularly for two newer handlers, but it does get quite samey towards the end.
  • Perfection is an absolute dickhead. Jay has a very strong grasp of his character, and the guy was dripping with cuntery throughout this match. From delaying on his ring entrance to chatting-up a girl at ringside, this guy’s a wanker.
  • I love the Shields stuff slowly creeping in with the slow count, then him not reacting to the uppercut low blow. Drip, drip, drip...
  • I was really rooting for another referee to come down the ramp after Shields was wiped out, if only to even the score and see Perfection take a like. Instead, I think the KO/10-count spot worked well. It’s a little harder for a referee to mask his crookedness in such a scenario, and I’m not entirely sure on the rules for restarting the third fall, but Shields’ refusal played into his crookedness well.
  • Great call-back with Perfection attacking the knee he worked a few weeks ago. Love stuff like that. Psychology, two thumbs up.
  • This match had a lot of really cool stuff in it. The Shields angle was great: I’ve never seen anyone do that in an efed before, and it came off very well. It’s nice to see people injecting personality into NPC characters like this, and this was a great way to screw ol’ Reaper out of the win. Going to be very interested to see how Kelly reacts to this. Maybe Shields is done? Either way, good match. Enjoyed it.

GOOD GUY ISLAND
  • Just us good guys doing a goofy little filler segment. Was fun.

JASON NATAS VS. FRANK DYLAN JAMES
  • The finish is probably a risk. Some of you will likely hate it, but I’m okay with that. I thought it should take something brutal to finish the loser off, and this felt apt.
  • These are my favourite types of match to watch in real-life. Love writing them. Hope the brutality came through as intended.

REAPER(S)
  • I thought Reaper was going to murder Terry here. No idea why, but I’m glad it didn’t happen.
  • I’m always interested in their dynamic. Terry’s strong enough to not take any shit from Reaper, but not so strong that he comes-off as the alpha. I think that’s important, particularly with the vengeance Reaper is trying to… reap. Terry knows some shit, but even he struggles with Reaper’s more complex machinations. Their interactions are always fun.
  • No real clue what Terry’s talking about at the start, but in a good way. I’m not bewildered, I’m intrigued.
  • Good to see Reaper using the screwy Perfection loss to realign and get angrier. That closing rant was quite foreboding, and I’m looking forward to seeing who he targets next. Judging by the promo, however, it might be half the damn fed.

ANDY MURRAY VS. BRONSON BOX

  • I’m satisfied with how it came out. We tried to start off in a slow-building, NJPW main event style but neither wrestler taking any big chances, before slowly unravelling into some Box-infused mania. Ultimately, the only goal was to write a pure wrestling match. Neither of us thought we needed to go overboard, and I’m glad we didn’t.
  • This was real easy to put together. Me and Evan approach PPV matches in much the same way: get a solid blueprint down, then power through the writing. I reckon I save a great deal of time by employing this method. If you’re someone who struggles with matchwriting, I recommend it. Writing the damn thing is a heck of a lot easier when you only have to concentrate on getting the words out, and don’t need to worry about engaging the creative side of your brain. Trust me, you’ll fly through it.
  • Little shout-out to Evan, too. A joy to work with. Very creative, easy to talk to: the type of handler who compels me to step my game up. Certainly among the best handlers I’ve ever worked with in my 16 years playing this dumb game.

RISKY BUSINESS
  • All kiiiiiiiiinds of buffer segments going on tonight. Good storytelling from Evan here, following-up on the Penn/Katze issue and building on the wee blurb he posted on the website prior to the PPV. Always enjoy it when guys develop story threads away from their main feud, and Box threatening anyone - let alone his long-time manager - is always chilling.

MIKEY UNLIKELY VS. IMPULSE
  • Good lead-in from the announcers. A strong summary of the events that brought us to this point without running overlong. Exactly what I look for from the first few paras.
  • I wasn’t particularly into Mikey’s intro. It was a decent way to broadcast his next big move in his “other” career and the transition from the commercial to the ring entrance was slick, I was just looking for a little more detestability. Not saying everything he does should drip with obnoxiousness, but I’m so accustomed to his gloriously cunty PPV ring entrances that this one kinda fell flat for me.
  • He atoned by having Quimbey correct him with the title name, however.
  • “Unlikely holding his face now, remember he opted NOT to wear that protective mask, but he is DEFINITELY still hurting from that shot a few weeks ago from Andy Murray.” Cayle, you sillymen.
  • Mikey’s growth as a wrestler, particularly against Impulse. Impulse is probably the purest technician in the promotion, so it’s naturally that Mikey would pick-up a thing or two while tangling with him. Like how his gameplan kind of goes to shit when Impulse takes control, and he’s reduced to throwing “lazy lariats” and so forth. That’s what happens when you’re outclassed in something: you panic and get sloppy.
  • Early on, the announcer/action balance is strong, and a lot more in-line with what I like to read than previous Impulse PPV offerings. The action blended into Keebs’ dialogue nicely, Angus was himself, they told the story, etc. I’m not arrogant enough to think that these changes were made to appease a dork like me, but I like reading them.
  • I wasn’t into the early finisher spot. I think for such a thing to come so early, it needs to be a flash finisher: something you can hit in an instant (a superkick, and RKO, etc.). Roll Credits, to me, requires a little too much set-up to be convincingly pulled-off so early in a match, and the announcer selling was a tad flat, too. I didn’t buy Keebs’ explanation of the “Marathon Man” nickname after just 4-5 minutes of wrestling.
  • The Impulse/table spot was good. I enjoy little touches like this, and the table not breaking makes things infinitely more brutal. Confused by the announcers teasing the match’s end so early, though.
  • What’s up with the count-out spot? Why does the referee restart the count when Impulse gets back inside? Impulse didn’t go back outside again, so I believe the count should’ve continued where it had left off.
  • Mikey losing twice but still winning is a good sympathy-getter for Impulse. I sometimes eyeroll at ref bump spots, but this one was particularly well done. The match, in general, had a very good flow throughout, and the action escalated logically all the way to the finish. The finish is good, but it is technically the right call, so I’m not really sure how much right anyone has to be outraged by it. Still, a good match on the whole.

LOCKED IN
  • I just kind of threw this together as a buffer. Not much thought went into it.
  • Aside from the buffering, this was ultimately designed to address Andy’s potential injury, as it wasn’t covered in the Cayle/Penn commentary. Continuity, etc. I didn’t want it clouding Cayle’s judgement, nor the match, so I covered it here.

CAYLE MURRAY VS. CURTIS PENN
  • This was so easy to do. Jon came through with a great little plan and all I had to do was follow it. It’s moderately long, but I really only spent a couple of hours on it. Jon clearly understands psychology and how to pace a match very well, which I admire.
  • I think the conclusion works well for both participants. There’s protection for the loser, and the means of victory plays to the winner’s character.
  • Again, I didn’t feel this really needed to fall into the “epic match” bracket. All it needed to be was a highly competitive clash between two great wrestlers with similar styles, but vastly differing mindset. I think the story of Penn only resorting to blatant cheating after all his other methods failed worked nicely.

DAN RYAN VS. LINDSAY TROY
  • This feud went a way that I didn’t expect at all, which is neither criticism nor praise. Given the years of history, the depth of their relationship, and the way Ryan tossed said relationship aside for his own gain, I was expecting Dan Ryan in monstrous, megalomaniacal form vs. an uber-sympathetic Lindsay Troy. Instead, I read it as monstros megalomaniac Dan Ryan vs. uber-badass Lindsay Troy, which amplified the action and made for a more visceral arc, but curtailed the emotion.
  • I think this came from the Elliott/Rayne stuff. Great action, but they chose to walk into Dan Ryans turf and essentially jump him, and both know what he’s capable of. This made it impossible to feel bad for their plight, as they both brought it on themselves. The slight exception here is when Ryan went nuts on Rayne’s leg.
  • So rather than going into this one super-invested in the babyface’s struggle to overcome the heel’s crimes, I’m not really “behind” either character particularly strongly, and just want to see a good fight. I’m sure this was intended, though.
  • I completely misread Lindsay Troy’s entrance at first and somehow thought she was doing a Goldberg-style backstage entrance with two actualy drones accompanying her down the hall. Best visual of the whole PPV.
  • The actual entrance was a tremendous display of steel and the best on the show.
  • Troy going right after Ryan was a great start. I think that’s almost what you have to do with such a size/power discrepancy, particularly when he’s this worked-up, knee injury or no knee injury. Again, this sells LT’s badassery.
  • It slows to a more methodical pace after that. That caught me by surprise, given the level of animosity. This pacing was a little jarring and I felt like the knee-focused attacks could’ve used a little more build. It just felt to me like the match slowed down too quickly, and that such a hot start deserved a longer spell of frantic, fast-think action where nobody has much time to pick their spots.
  • Definitely would’ve liked some more commentary exchanges, but my thoughts on this topic have been repeated enough already.
  • This is, so far, an incredibly one-sided match. It reminds me of Lesnar vs. Cena at SummerSlam ‘14, except Lesnar’s the one taking the pounding. LT is absolutely brutal on the assault, which ties in with what I was saying at the top of the segment.
  • Dan Ryan looks really, really weak here, IMO. His offence is almost entirely restricted to hope spots, including the Humility Bomb, and I think that softens the impact of Troy’s eventually victory. She systematically takes him apart without spending a prolonged period of the match on the backfoot, and yes, it makes her look dominant, but victory tastes sweeter after a long struggle. It’s natural that she’d eventually use the knee to immobilise him, but I think it would’ve came off better had she been chipping away at it, rather than all-out blitzkrieg.
  • It’s very short. I know there are reasons for that, but caveats, etc. I’ll be honest: for a PPV main event, and the end to a gigantic feud, I felt a little shortchanged. Everything felt hurried, and nothing really had a chance to escalate. This diminished the impact, drama and emotion of each individual phase.
  • LT tapping-out Dan Ryan is a fantastic visual. The moment was flat, though. I feel like LT becoming the FIST of DEFIANCE is a gigantic moment, but the outro was just so sparse. A couple of acknowledgements from the announcers and nothing more. Ultimately, this detracted from a historic moment in DEFIANCE history and a defining moment in both wrestlers’ careers.

IN GENERAL

  • This was a pretty good show. It was some flaws, but it was enjoyable enough throughout. A clear step down from DEFCON for me, but DEFCON’s the biggest show of the year, so there’s always going to be some drop-off.
  • Compared to the fantastic DEFCON arc, I think we slumped this arc. It was fine, it was okay, but it wasn’t up to the world-class standards I expect from DEFIANCE. A lot of disjointedness, and I think there are a few reasons for that.
  • We had a few people flakebail, which never helps. That’s gonna happen. I’m glad to see the likes of Justin, Jay, and Brian coming through as handlers, though. Brian’s had to deal with a feud partner vanishing into thin air halfway through the arc, and that’s never fun.
  • The tournament was a grind. A really, really big grind. I loved the concept, but about halfway through the arc I realised that I was really struggling to get amped for it. I can only speculate as to how other people felt about it, but now that we’re through it, I think I probably would’ve preferred a standard arc.
  • I think that DEF*MAX largely derailed us as a fed. As I say, I was completely in favour of it at the start, but things often don’t go the way you expect. The lack of cohesive storylines was noticeable throughout the arc, because it’s really, really tough to tell a good story when you have a tournament framework to fit it around. I’m very fortunate to have had the pleasure of working with Evan this arc. Without that, I would’ve likely pulled what’s left of my hair out.
  • Just something to consider for the future, I guess. Perhaps a one night only tournament would suit us better in the future.
  • Despite all this, I’m super excited for the next arc. It’ll be good to escape this mud, knuckle-down, and work on some quality stuff with my next feud partners. Should be a fun one.
  • As a group, I think we got into a few bad habits this arc. There’s definitely been a “funk” creeping-in over us, and I’d like to see a concentrated effort to shake that away. I’ve been just as swayed by it as anyone else, but I’m raring to go for the next round.

THE RUNDOWN
Jurassic Park line is great. What can you really say? This provides all the pertinent set up needed rolling into the card. Evan always does an outstanding job and this is no exception.
The attack was a nice touch. As if Natas/FDJ needed anymore heat, for what is clearly going to be a knock drag out fight.

SCOTT DOUGLAS VS. FRANK PASTORE
Wrote this with Jerald.

SHADY
If Jimmy is involved there must be some fuckery afoot. This came off as a good tease to the very type of business the title implies. Paz comes off a little more commanding and in the way I remember her being written years ago, but Perfection wasn’t in the room. Around him she definitely plays different. Intrigued on how this will play into the match.

PCP & KENDRIX VS. VIKING WAR CULT
“Hollywood McFuckwits trios of losers.” “...goddamn cream-in-your-pants jizztastic.”
PCP and the SEG in general, fantastic delusional heels. The Klein bit was great. JFK build up was fantastic. Only complaint, not one “innit,” yeah. The VWC entrance made them look strong to say the least. After a long intro I expected their entrance and the jump off of the match to be rushed but it was still paced well.

Opening was good tag action. Double team moves and such. The Stomp Tags were entertaining. Seems like something that would really piss off a wrestling based crowd. Nuclear option call back was nice. JFK comes off super strong. VWC all the look physically strong seem to get a little bit of the little brother treatment which I suppose is apropos being BRAZEN. Match was a little tough to follow at times, and I had to double back. That may be more of ineptitude rather than the writing. Or just the fact it’s a 6 man tag. All I can say for sure is some of the action seemed long in fast moving points that made it tough to keep straight in my head what was going on. Still a good match though and a logical to this arc. JFK sticks out the most, through this entire arc, and in this match that maybe there is some growth there and although his ideals are still well rooted in Sports Entertaining, he is gradually leaning more toward actual wrestling.

IN THE END
Love the dry wit or Spock like answer, “win.” Good guys have to win. In the movies sure, in pro wrestling this hints at some possible implications of the opposite.

PERFECTION VS. CODENAME: REAPER
Entrances were short and sweet. I think further into the card I would have really appreciated that, but this early in they came off a little shy even for TV. With that being said, Reaper making a normal entrance rather than his normal black out entrance, it seems like he wouldn’t waste much time getting down to the ring.
Now, this is more of a question and not a judgment but because maybe I’m doing it wrong.. But Angus calling technical wrestling a borefest, and not long after droppings the “obvs” seems a little out of character for me, being that he hates SEG. I guess the wrestling thing could be explained that he is more into the HOSSFITE and maybe the “obvs” was satirical. Maybe I just explained that away. Who am I to judge I called Jack Hunter, SUPERBEAST in my match.

Anyway, I do love Angus’ utter and unrelenting hatred for Perfection. The Shields stuff played well and started subtle but ratchets up quickly. Perfection was super heel as he should be. The match itself played out well and I think both come off well in the action. Perfection gets his just do but in classic heel fashion figures out a way to snake his way into a win. The whole Shields thing adds an extra dimension to it but it leaves a lot of questions as to what will happen in the fall out of such fuckery.

GOOD GUY ISLAND
So, it’s lemonade? Good clean fun here. A hope spot for a card that has been all heel thus far. Great placement.

JASON NATAS VS. FRANK DYLAN JAMES
HOSSSSSSSFFFFFFIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEE! From the first bar fight to the match and even the opening of the show, this has been a fast building but well laid out beef. Not so much a feud as a beef that looks a little like a wrestling feud simply because a title is involved. I expect brutality in the first degree. Also I feel like the commentary laid all this out perfectly and even walking into this card cold there would be no mistaking this was a hardcrore street beef. Great match, very entertaining and held my attention the entire way through. Also, being a Natas fan walks in, I’m glad to see him retain the title.

REAPER(S)
Much like Paz, Terry Anderson is no longer the man he used to be. Ran down a bit by the doings of assisting Reaper. This segment raises a lot of questions about Reapers future, who is the true target, will he continue with the detour of Jimmy Johns and who the hell is Terry looking for? Good stuffs.

ANDY MURRAY VS. BRONSON BOX
Much like Natas/FDJ this was an amazing build up and expected nothing less from this. The backstory was laid out and built up so perfectly. Backstory faked or not , it was laid out and played out immaculately. War Drums link, amazing. After listening to Radio its tough to say anything about this that wasn’t already said, but … I will say personally I enjoyed this match and though it is the sum of all pages … ever. It’s highly readable. I never got lost and only break I needed was based on shitty eyes and bright screens. I honestly expected the AM to go over and was surprised to see the reign of the hell continue. The post match fall out was well written and played well. HOT Squid!

RISKY BUSINESS
Quick seg. If I haven’t said it before I love phonetic spelling for Box. Box is clearly pissed but is it really over betrayal or the fact she’s right? Good seg, ties in Box/Katze and Penn/Katze.

MIKEY UNLIKELY VS. IMPULSE
“DDK:
Is that totally obvs?
Angus:
… I’m not above slapping you”

Possibly lending credence to my above comments about the Perfection/Reaper match. I think also there was a DDK mention of BRUVs somewhere and a negative response from Angus.

Anyway, The Cally bit with Angus and DDK was nice. Is it bad I would 100% watch Crow’s Alley? God, I love Westerns. Westerns and Quantum Leap. But especially Westerns. Mikey has definitely stepped up his wrestling chops as of late, must be all the stunt training and FRAPPES! Really expect Impulse to have this one in the bag and take the title. But Mikey and the Hollywood Heritage title lives to piss off the Faithful another day. Can’t wait to see how he spins this one to save face.

LOCKED IN
Cayle’s mindstate and continuity here. Not much to say except it plays well and leads into the match.

CAYLE MURRAY VS. CURTIS PENN
I liked the opening salvo from Penn and for it to be cut short by Cayle should give this match a little more anger from Penn who seems to have enough for no reason, but being strictly a competitive finish to a tournament without any real heat … that at least gives Penn an extra little chip on his shoulder. I enjoyed this match, and again it just seems to be the night of the fuck over … why stop now… Penn with the tights seems to be as appropriate as possible. After Cayle has risen so far since DEFCON, I honestly thought he may take this one, so it will be interesting to see how he emerges from this loss. Actually all of Good Guy Island as it were, with the exception of Natas, who maybe be damaged but came out on tippy.

DAN RYAN VS. LINDSAY TROY
“Goddamn CURTIS PENN... “ Love the continuity leading into this one. Ninja stars. Like a muthfucka. That last match would be hard to live up to and I don’t know if I can say this did but after a long night of every heel getting over this was a great and satisfying pay off. And at the hand of submission at that! That being said this was super short in comparison to some of the earlier matches. Granted, I just view it as a PPV that ran long and producers in the back are calling for the early finish and then it works for me. But for Troy to take the title it does seem like something bigger should happen… Like the Good Guy crew limping and bruised coming down to the ring to champion their nearly one and only victor of the night they toasted previously. But I’d imagine there is something of the sort in store for Uncut.
GENERAL
Good card. As stated above some things felt long and others too short. Certainly felt like a heel night and my input didn’t do much to change that. This felt less of a blow off show and more of a keep watching shit … just … got … crazy, show. Which I can’t say is a bad thing. Enjoyed it overall. I give it 7 out of 10 Dan Ryan copyright symbols.

Re: MAXIMUM DEFIANCE ARC DISCUSSION THREAD - DEFtv 69 IS LIVE! FEED THE BACKS!

This is my first show. I'm going in blind so excuse my ignorance to everyone's stories. It was also football Sunday, so you know...

Maybe Douglas just maybe should have carried his bags? Good match, I enjoyed the ending which will definitely be the beginning of a very entertaining arch.

SHADY:
Nice behind the scenes action here. Not too familiar with the background to this story, but it's nice PPV filler material. Is Mark Shields a Nick Patrick?

PCP and the Viking War Cult (Great name BTW) was interesting. Reaper appears to be all over the place except the win column, I see. Tag matches are always fun to read and in the end Floki couldn't handle the D. Maybe tag team wrestling is back? It appears relevant again here in Defiance.

DDK and Angus thoroughly entertained me during the Reaper / Perfection match up. Reminded me of the good ole days in commentary, where one commentator was a complete ass but you can't help but love him. Reaper appears to be even creepier than I originally expected.

Natas and FDJ was a fun read. Crazy ending with both superstars going through the ring and Natas narrowly escaping, but still successfully defending his Onslaught championship. Can't wait to see what's next for these two.

“Action” (Had to do it…) Bronson Box’s brutal Full Nelson was just too much for Murray as he was forced to say “Uncle.” I don't see this story being over by a long shot. Not with the way BB tried to injury Murray. There will be vindication!

Make sure you watch Crow’s Alley.

Mikey Unlikely and Impulse was a classic title match with an all too familiar ending. Unlikely undoubtedly saved his championship by blasting the referee, Hector with his title belt. I'm pretty sure he felt a changing of the strap coming. The way Angus fluffed for Impulse it was as if he took that loss hard. There will definitely be a part duex.

Penn and Murray, unfortunately another epic fail for a man named Murray. Reminiscent of another bout, Murray's kick out was just a hair too late and Penn is your tournament champion. I'm not even sure what this tournament was for but kudos to Penn for winning it all.

Dan Ryan and Lindsay Troy stole the show and rightfully so. The back and forth was incredible, I definitely did not see Dan Ryan being completely emasculated coming at all. The Queen begins her reign, what will be in store for the rest of Defiance?

All in all it was a great card. Hopefully I did this right and I look forward to more action.
