I can't wrap my heads around this one boys. 40. He was just 40! Couple this to the fact that he left the PPV to tend to a family emergency last night...something's not right here....but I just can't believe the Crippler is gone.

the whole family was killed. Tragic. Chris never misses a show ever in his life. I suspect he got word of his family over the weekend and took his own life. Tragic.

You will be miss Chris.

I haven't watched wrestling seriously in years, but even with that in mind I'm still totally thrown by this, having been a huge Benoit mark since I got into watching. Man. Not just Benoit, but his family - that can't be natural. Forty is far too young for a guy to die, but with his wife and kid too is just a low blow.

It's not often I get texted about something this time in the morning without it being a drunken one - but a friend of mine who's watching RAW just broke the news to me. I cannot believe it. I'm not going to share the first few thoughts that went through my head, but someone definitely needs to look into wrestling, especially in the WWE, and see what on earth is going on - not only people who were big in the 80s and early 90s who're dieing, but now there've been four people died on the active roster in ten years that I can name off the top of my head!

Brian Pillman, Owen Hart, Eddie Guerrero, and now Chris Benoit... this really, really sucks.

The latest word on this is that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and son over the weekend and killed himself earlier today.

If that's true, then... damn.

All this speculation (not here, but on other boards I read) is getting tiresome. Let the autopsies come back tomorrow and an official statement be made once that happens and then we can all go nuts about what did/didn't/could've/should've happened.

Regardless, this is all rather sad.

the autopsies will tell how they died. But, on the scene Forensics can tell if his wife and child were dead substantially longer than he was.

If so, then you can kind of figure that either he killed them then killed himself or he found them dead and killed himself.

This is just sad. I watched Raw w/ my wife, and two daughters and almost broke down. I mean ... Wow. Jerry Lawler said something along the lines of, if you're with your loved ones, tell them you love them, and my wife and I did just that. Without offending anyone with my speculation, I just can't understand how anyone could kill their wife and children. Especially not someone who appeared to be such a stand up guy. I don't think he killed them, but as they say, anything is possible. Being a married father, I just couldn't ever imagine something driving me that far over the edge. Judging by what the people that knew him best said, he was a man about his family.

I hope and pray that there's more to it. I hope that it was all an accident. I don't know, I'm just so confused right now.

WWE.com said:
According to lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, in Fayetteville, Ga., the deaths of WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, wife Nancy and son Daniel were the result of a double murder-suicide, WWE.com has learned.

Benoit failed to appear both at Saturday’s live event in Beaumont, Tx., and WWE’s Vengeance: Night of Champions in Houston Sunday night, after informing WWE of a family emergency. Several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning prompted concerned friends to alert Richard Hering, VP of Government Relations for WWE, Inc. Hering, in turn, spoke with Fayette County sheriffs Monday, and requested that they respond to the Benoit residence to check on him and his family.

Authorities representing the Sheriff’s Department initially had a difficult time entering Benoit’s new Fayetteville home Monday afternoon, which had been guarded by two large German Shepherds roaming freely around the property. Once authorities entered the residence, they quickly located the bodies of Benoit, Nancy and Daniel. WWE was notified of the discovery at approximately 4 p.m.

At 10 p.m. Monday night, Lt. Pope held a press conference in conjunction with Scott Ballard, the district attorney for Fayette County. The press conference officially ruled authorities’ findings as a double murder-suicide from within the home.

WAGA, a FOX-owned and operated television station in Atlanta, reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son over the weekend, then himself on Monday.

The three bodies have been received by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab, in Decatur, Ga., where autopsies will be performed Tuesday morning. Toxicology reports will not become available for at least two weeks.

WWE.com has further information relating to both the investigation and the cause of death, but the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department has requested that WWE.com not release any additional details at this time.

As of right now, that's the story being touted around. I'm not sure what evidence there is, but if they're putting it out officially, then I'm pretty sure they're confident in their findings thusfar.

There was actually a press conference held last night - it was covered by CNN, and I saw it this morning covered on the news where the Atlanta Police confirmed it as a double murder suicide originating from within the home.

I'm still kinda numbed about this. I can't believe any of it, much less the turn that's taking place now.

So crazy...

So.. What do we think of Chris Benoit now?

I can seperate his wrestling career from his personal life.

Incredible wrestler. One of the greatest of all time.

Chris Benoit the person... I don't know yet. I went through a battle with depression and it literally kicked my butt. If you add that into the past steroids and whatever else he had taken throughout the years as well as the long years of work with WCW and WWE. His mental view could be easily distorted and worn away. Paranoia... self esteem... thoughts of losing his family... He just snapped. But, killing his son a day or so AFTER he killed his wife.

I'm speechless. I think I need a day or two to let it settle in. The parent in me wants to call him a piece of sh*t. The wrestling fan wants to believe that the inner demons that he had just took over and he lost any control of himself.

I don't think we will ever know what happened with the Benoits. Just a lot of stories and speculation like we are getting now. I'm literally sick.:(

I think one thing people should remember, is Eddie Guerrero actually did go through a period, whilst battling his own demons, where he beat his wife, and Vickie was so scared for her and her children's lives she took them and left Eddie. And we remember Eddie for his in-ring work.

I've been battling depression longer than I enjoy thinking about, and I also have a so-called "hidden disability." I know that the two things combined can very easily lead to other mental health problems; paranoia, low self-esteem, ultra-perfectionist tendencies, extreme stress. I've snapped a couple of times and not been able to remember what happened in the days that followed, as you go up and down quicker than a rollercoaster - one minute you can be homocidal, then five minutes later, completely suicidal and grief stricken, then back to homocidal, until, eventually, your system calms itself down.

Throw in recreational drugs (and that includes alcohol), steriods, and even prescription drugs (the first three anti-depressants I took made me very aggressive) and you've got a very dangerous mix, that something seemingly trivial could just make a person snap. I like to compare it to a dam - the dam is your grip on things, and everything is building up behind it, whilst something's attacking the front, trying to weaken it. Once a deep enough crack appears, the dam just bursts, and everything gets let out at once.

I think that may be what happened here. I'm probably going to be in the minority, but, as well as feeling sorry for Nancy and Daniel, I feel very sorry for Chris, if my assumptions are right. He lived a very stressful life as a professional wrestler, travelling all the time, always somewhere new, somewhere different, and he didn't let many people get too close to him - then his best friend died, and everything else just built.

Actually, I told my dad about it when it was only suspected as a murder/suicide, and his response was "given the drugs (prescribed and otherwise) etc I am surprised there is not a lot more of this."

I agree with him - someone needs to look into the wrestler's lifestyles, ESPECIALLY in the WWE with their heavy schedule.

This is just incredibly rediculous to me, to even have to come to terms with this.

RIP Chris Benoit.

Most people have Eddy Guerrero T-Shirts that say he's their favorite wrestler.

Most people have their own favorites just for the simple reason that their being put over for a storyline that has them beating Triple H for the title.

Chris Benoit was my favorite Wrestler simply for the fact that he busted his ass when he stepped into the ring and demanded respect no matter who you were.

People said that Pound for Pound, he was one of the best EVER.

They weren't lying.

RIP Chris Benoit.

You'll be missed.

Not by me.

I admired Chris Benoit, and now he's killed his wife and son in a sickening ritual-style fashion and taken the coward's way out after the fact. Blame it on insanity or stress if you want, but were he such a great guy he could have taken time off the road, or seen a doctor when the signs began to appear, or even said something to his friends. Blame it on his son's illness, but it is not an act of compassion to kill a kid because he's unwell. As it stands I'll never watch another Benoit match the same way, because no amount of good wrestling can erase the fact that he choked the life out of a seven-year-old boy who never even had a chance to live.

Nothing can justify murder, but killing a kid is even worse - and killing your own blood is the lowest of the low. If insanity turns out to be the problem we can pity him, but I can't forgive or forget the fact that someone I considered one of my wrestling heroes ritually killed his own family. Worse yet, he apparently killed his son with a wrestling chokehold. There's your great wrestling for you. How can I ever look at another Crippler Crossface or any submission hold from Benoit without thinking about him killing his own son with a hold like that?

I've settled on being sad for Nancy and Daniel, but Benoit deserves nothing better than damnatio memoriae.

I agree mostly with Karl's POV. Eventually, there's only so much a person can take... and usually it hits them so hard, they can't see the "signs" that lead up to a typical breakdown. That, or maybe when you're going through some tough times, you just refuse to accept the fact that you may be cracking, until finally it happens.

I'm going to remember Benoit as the man he was up until Eddie's death. I think that's the man most knew him as, and after long, the lifestlye just finally started rubbing him the wrong way. It wouldn't be hard for me to watch an earlier match of Benoit, cause I'll know that (possibly) at that time, he wasn't as troubled as he was in his final days.

That's pure speculation that goes against the evidence. The only sign of a struggle was the blood under Nancy's head (I haven't seen anywhere it say it was her blood as yet). I know there would've been signs of a struggle evident if Chris had used something like the Crossface, or anything that might cover Daniel's mouth - he would have bitten Chris. It's a natural instinct for a child - if something's covering your mouth and you can't shake it off, you bite. Also, there were, from police reports, no indications of heavy bruising consistent with the kind of submission holds that could have asphixiated or smothered Daniel. That he was found in his bed, suggests to me, a pillow was used. There would be no signs of a struggle there, and no wounds on Chris from Daniel, because Daniel wouldn't have been able to lash out enough to hurt someone as strong as Benoit, and no way to bite him through a pillow.

I have read the rumours which say he used the crossface to kill Daniel, but they're not journalistically sound. They've all started "Someone I know who knows someone who knows someone said..." and those kinds of rumours are crap. I'm sure there would've been something in an autopsy report that would've been officially reported by now if it had been the case.

I've been following the dirt sheets and news resources. The distrinct attorney is now saying Daniel was killed by a wrestling chokehold. There's never been any mention of a pillow; the speculation before now was that he used a garbage bag.

The only hold I can think that'd be would be the sleeper-hold. The Million Dollar Dream would leave bruising, as would most others, plus a dinstinctly noticable amount of damage to the wind-pipe (I've been put in most of them at some point in my life, lol. A lot of them have a bone in the arm pressing back into the wind-pipe, whereas a sleeperhold done properly would have muscle tissue against the throat and not bone). I don't think it could've been a choke hold using the legs - Benoit's legs are too thick to work on a child without heavy bruising, which is normally reported as a sign of a struggle.

I'm still going to wait for the toxicology reports before I make comments on Daniel's cause of death. I'm actually slightly worried Benoit sounded "groggy" on the phone.
