WEEDBACK:
Start to finish, I thought this was a pretty solid show. The opening matches were short and to the point, the title matches that followed stepped it up, and it went home with the main event. In other words, it felt like watching an actual PPV event. There were also a decent number of segments breaking up the action, although I still feel like anything more than two per character is overexposure. I'll get more into that later.
MATCH OF THE NIGHT:
The main event is probably going to get the most recognition for this, but I feel the TV Title contest was a decent contender. Whoever wrote the action between Cruise and Astros did a great job. It was, perhaps, the most dominant Cameron Cruise has been in some time. After being the butt of everyone's jokes for so long, it's good to see a veteran character can still go into the ring and wrestle a truly amazing match, coming out with a win, a belt, and some bragging rights.
BEST SEGMENT:
The Hall of Fame induction was the highlight of non-match segments, in my opinion. Ivy was an appropriate presenter (kudos for the Greensboro reaction, whoever wrote it), and Stevens' speech was great. The Dis segment was also good for being direct, although someone inappropriately timed as it immediately followed the beat-down of the person he/she was addressing. Of all of the Stalker segments, the last one was probably the best; I feel Caitlyn's getting a bit too melodramatic in her mission. The Impulse speech was also good, though maybe I'm just weaned on script format, but it felt more like a Lebron James commercial than an interview.
FACE OF THE NIGHT:
ANIMEIZING DRAGON I felt got this. Anarky and Impulse's wins were huge face moments as well, though Brown and Otaku got extra points by scoring a win over the federation's current top heel.
HEEL OF THE NIGHT:
Since Stalker kinda walked away from this worse for wear, I think Cruise became the Heel of the Night for his TV Title win. Since it was a hard-fought, clean victory, he didn't come off as very heelish, but then this wasn't a card that many heel antics.
BEST MOMENT:
The reveal as Tact as the special guest referee was pretty surprising for me, and I liked how the commentators quickly explaining its significance by recalling his history with both competitors. Stevens accepting his Hall of Fame induction was also a highlight.
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE BETTER:
Not to knock Justin for his contributions, but four segments is perhaps too many for one character on a single card. In this instance, I felt like Stalker was getting overexposed over the course of the entire show, to the point where it started eclipsing the presence of other characters. This is especially apparent when those segments give more references to Rocko Daymon than Stalker's opponents later on in the night. Caitlyn's revenge role is good, but Stalker's never going to truly get over until he can move on from bragging about one opponent he's beaten over a year ago.
I also don't know how I feel about Steven Shane being cut out of the tag title match. Granted, while his absence brought a good dynamic and story to the match, Shane provides an interesting dynamic to the team itself. Not having him out there I feel didn't do the character any credit, given how he's defined himself over the shows building up to this point by demonstrating an uncanny wrestling skill against his opponents in the ring. It felt like he should have made an appearance at least at some point, but that never came, making the tag match feel someone anti-climactic, and really damaging to the reputation of characters like Otaku and Brown by making it seem like it requires their combined efforts to beat a single opponent.
I only criticize the way this angle plays out due to the fact that it's one of the only major angles happening right now, as far as I can see. There could be a problem with that as well. It could just be that Stalker's not over-exposed, but other talents are being under-exposed right now. There wasn't very much mention or build toward the main event as it came along. As a standalone match, it was perfect in storytelling, but I felt there could have been one segment earlier in the show with Copycat, Anarky, or even Aaron Jones just to remind everybody of what's at stake. But WV4 didn't really feed that story until the main event came. It was a great series of matches... but lacked an epic quality you'd expect from a major PPV event.
So I guess overall... less from Justin, more from everybody else. Sorry to be an overly critical asshole, once again.
MISC. THOUGHTS:
Good, consistent writing throughout all of the matches. I almost had the impression one person did the entire thing.
