TOP 10 IWC FEUDS
As the IWC closes in on it's fifth year of operation, we decided it was time to actually use this spotlight section for something other than just the biased ramblings of Billy Mayne. Therefore we're going to look back at the feuds that trascend the ring, issues that have boiled over into every facet of the lives of those involved in them, rivalries that know no ends, and blood feuds that helped to establish the IWC. So prepare yourselves for a painful stroll down memory lane as IWC counts down the top 10 greatest rivalries.
10. Desolation vs. Jon Rich
In a feud that changed the face of 2007, two individuals with a very personal rivalry waged war all throughout the summer and fall months. No one would be prepared for the levels of violence that were witnessed as part of this long, intense blood feud, including the individuals involved. Perhaps the greates feud of 2007, this rivalry included a number of disturbing moments that would certainly change the two competitors who were out to destroy their competition for good. Moments such as Jon Rich being stapled in his eyeball, his girlfriend, Roxas Knoxx, being Curb Stomped viciously by Desolation, and the Dark Man being sent crashing from the stage through a collection of tables below. These two individuals would collide twice over the No Holds Barred Championship, in two of the most memorable matches in IWC's/ULW's long term history. It started because of a turf war waged between those loyal to the roster and the fanatics amongst the ranks of the Alpha Generation, but would soon become so much more personal, transforming into a vendetta. In their first singles meeting for the title, Desolation emerged victorious and took the N.H.B Championship from Rich, only to lose it back to Jon a month later in an even more grizzly Last Man Standing encounter that will not be soon forgotten. These two have absolutely ripped one another apart with barbwire, tables, staplers, and railroad spikes, in an issue that will possibly never be resolved.
9. Johnny Kingdom vs. AWOL
There were numerous issues building into Paranoia III, a true plethora of violent, and dramatic rivalries that threatened to steal the show. However, the main event held it's own against all comers, as the IWC fans were treated to one of the greatest title bouts in our increasingly short term memories. The build to this match was almost a year in the making, and saw a number of twists and turns that helped to escalate the violence the fans would behold when these two clashed over the World Heavyweight title. Not only had Johnny Kingdom participated in getting AWOL incarcerated for his physical displays of hostility, but in order for him to drop his suit against the Big Crazy Bastard, the former World Champion had to become the Team Leader's hired gun, his slave of sorts. Despite all that, after months of teaming together it seemed as if both men had actually developed some respect and commroderie. Unfortunately, in this case, appearences were quite decieving. The two would always be united ironically by their passion for the same woman, Vivian Fox, a lovely temptress who Kingdom would later trick AWOL into savagly mauling to the point where she'll never be able to step foot in a ring again. This feud was beyond personal, and saw Kingdom not only turn against AWOL by savagly assaulting him with a steel chair while he was handcuffed to a cage wall, but also kick his former teammate down a flight of stairs. The feud ended not only with AWOL ending one of the greatest World title reigns in IWC history, but also concluding Kingdom's illustrious career. For those reasons it just etched out the competition to make it to the coveted number 9 spot on our countdown.
8. Psycho vs. Hurse
You'd be hard pressed to try and forget the moment that Psycho's face was lit a blaze at the hands of Hurse, a moment indelible etched in the mind of the Sadistic One. After being horribly disfigured within the confines of an Asylum match, Psycho went on a personal campaign against Hurse, a vicious vendetta which would consume the majority of both men's ULW/IWC careers. The rivalry would build up over an entire year after the infamous face torching incident, and when it was slated to conclude at Paranoia III the issue only became more heated. The hatred both these men have for one another will never end it seems, and every time they've tried to bury it, the animosity resurfaces yet again. Even after putting Hurse into retirement by spitting green mist into his eyes and costing him a World title match against Johnny Kingdom, the Master of Control couldn't keep away from the now disfigured Psycho, finding a loophole to return several months later and pick up where the two men had left off. These two have squared off on numerous occassions with many different titles on the line, yet every battle fails to end the war between them, as hostilities only continue to develop. Who knows what it will take for the war waged between these two men to finally end.
7. Nathan Creed vs. Orlando Cruze
If you want a feud that has seen it all, this is the one you should fondly recall. Never before has there been a rivalry quite like this one in the annals of ULW/IWC history, a feud that seemingly knows no ends. Every time both men have buried the hatchet, they pick it up and once again lodge it directly into the backs of their so called allies. But unlike the rivalries listed previously, this one is based almost solely on respect, as displayed by their epic, unbelievable fan favorite fight as part of 2007's Born Again, where this feud may have finally ended. For how long; nobody knows. For it's insatiable ability to never truly conclude, the feud between Nathan Creed and Orlando Cruze finds itself number 7 on our list of the greatest rivalries in IWC and ULW history. The beginning of this issue between the two world class athletes was sparked by an accidental chair shot to Nathan Creed's cranium by, at the time, tag team partner Orlando Cruze. Several weeks later, Orlando would recieve a similar shot to the cranium from a chair at the hands of Nathan Creed, but this time it was anything but accidental. The two men would set the world ablaze with their feud, which featured some incredible technical based wrestling, as well as some of the finest, bloodiest brawls of all times. They've met in 2 out of 3 falls encounters and numerous straight up wrestling clinics that had the fans salivating for more. It began many years ago, almost at the very beginning of the ULW, and after countless displays of trechery, it just now reached it's end at Born Again, or did it? Is the issue truly buried, will this tag team ever be able to coexist, or will their need to prove their superiority put them into competition yet again?
6. Johnny Kingdom vs. Hurse
Much like the war that has waged between Orlando Cruze and Nathan Creed, this feud also arose out of the ashes of a seemingly unstoppable tag team. Hurse and Johnny Kingdom came into the ULW together and almost immediately made an impact as Creative Control. They threatened to shake up the establishment and would not be stopped until they reached the very top of the roster, obtaining that coveted World Heavyweight Championship. Unfortunately, there was only one prized title, and there were two of them. In an effort to cement himself as the new top contender and out of petty jealousy, Hurse attempted to screw a man who had almost become his mentor in the form of Johnny Kingdom out of the World Championship in the Glass Chamber match at New Beginnings. This certainly didn't set well with Kingdom, who despite his former tag team partner's greatest attempts was able to emerge victorious with the World title, a championship he would hold for an unpresedented year and a half. His first championship reign would ultimately be ended at the hands of Hurse, who despite numerous title opportunities before was unable to take the belt off Kingdom's waist. These two men have tried and tried again to coexist, but the World Championship always had a way of driving them apart. As thus they've encountered each other in perhaps more World title matches than any other duo, with the title changing hands on numerous occassions. They've fought in Last Man Standing, a ladder match, one on one competition, steel cages, and even the infamous Weapon's Lair. Despite their numerous battles, strangely nothing has been resolved between them, and perhaps never will as long as there's a World Heavyweight Championship, making it number 6 on our countdown.
5. Lethal Weapon vs. Orlando Cruze
Where were you when Lethal Weapon officially accepted the challenge of Orlando Cruze? Well, if you had a brain, and you found the outside world too frightening, you were probably sitting at home, watching television with your mouth full of Cheetos and your jaw dropped in astonishment. No one will ever be able to forget 2006's match of the year winner, a bout contested between Orlando Cruze and Lethal Weapon at Paranoia III, that had the entire arena out of breath and on an emotional rollercoaster throughout. The build into this match involved a great deal of manipulation spawned from Lethal Weapon's mind control of perhaps his biggest fan Orlando. To Cruze, Weapon was an icon, his idol, his hero as a child, which made it all the more monumental for him when Lethal accepted his one on one challenge. However, the vibe and excitement on Orlando's part was quickly killed when it became apparent that Weapon would do everything in his power to tip the scales in his favor going into Paranoia III. Lethal tried whatever underhanded means he could think of to put an end to Cruze, including spearing him through the set. Yet nothing was enough as Orlando emerged victorious against his hero at the biggest show of them all, and in the end, even after all they had put each other through, they still shook one another's hands in a true display of class. Their encounter was truly epic and the friendship it spakred continues to be seen till this very day, in the form of the fledgling alliance between Weapon's son Scott Gray-Harris and "The Icon" Orlando Cruze. No one will ever be able to forget the moments that were spawned from this legendary feud.
4. Killjoy vs. Psycho
If there was ever a feud that transcended time itself, it would have to be the rivalry that consumed the very lives of Killjoy and Psycho. Known throughout the world as perhaps the most diaoblical, the most deviant, and the most sadistic wrestlers to ever step foot in the ring, it would only be a matter of time before their paths crossed and the rest would be a bloody history. Not only did this rivalry consume much of their ULW careers, but it dates back even further than this company's five year history, spanning multiple other federations, before finally culminating at Paranoia II in Survival of the Fittest. There may be no match that was more bloody, more violent, more grotesque than their Paranoia II encounter, that saw both men plummet from a suspended cage through a sea of chairs in the center of the ring. By the time their match was over, both men required dozens of stitches and blood transfusions to keep them alive. Of course death was never a fear or even a thought on either of these two men's minds, their hatred for one another was what kept them going and kept them blinded to everything else. Killjoy would utilize his mind games whenever he got the chance to get the psychological advantage against Psycho, who always was able to rise above it and keep coming back for more. Even after faking his own suicide, Killjoy couldn't get the better of Psycho. No matter what trick or weapon was used to put Psycho down he got right back up and continued to fight. Every time we thought that we'd see these two finally face each other one on one some new issue would arise to ruin the possibility and keep their hostilities flaring for a future fight. But finally, after Killjoy shocked the world by returning at the Rumble Bash and eliminating Psycho from the match, although he wasn't a legal participant, no amount of backstage tomfoolery would be able to keep them apart. When they finally met one on one at Paranoia II the fans were privy to perhaps the greatest hardcore battle they had ever witnessed, and ever will witness. Shockingly the two now seem capable of getting along for the greater good, but will their sadistic sides once again take over, and will we see a repeat of perhaps the bloodiest match in IWC/ULW history? For their Paranoia II match alone, this feud just slips in at number 4.
3. Chapel vs. AWOL
There have been a number of feuds in the IWC and the ULW that were generated due to some implosion of factions, but non so were more brutal than the issue that was spawned between former teammates, Chapel and AWOL. Being two of the all time greats in the annals of IWC history, they initially got their start as part of the Holy War faction, a force that took the ULW by storm, and was only shortly revived a few months ago as a result of both men's common hatred for the Alpha Generation. Yet, no matter how united they may be in their animosity for others, they'll always be divided by their hatred for one another. Ironically both men share a lot in common; they both demand respect, they're both unstoppable monsters, they never shy away from saying what's on their mind, they're controversial, and of course, who can forget that they both have a propensity for violence. This feud has featured many bloodbaths and literally dozens of verbal beratements, yet despite the best efforts of both individuals, it will never end. This battle of brutes began due to Chapel's lust for power, leading him to turn against AWOL and join the at the time political faction known as the High Rollers, and since that inciting moment this rivalry has escalated to gory proportions. They've fought each other on several occassions and attacked one another on many more. Before AWOL's retirement, almost every time they crossed paths with one another, blood was spilled, rather it was when they were on opposing sides of the FUF vs. Annihilation conflict, or in their street fight, or their 2 out of three falls match. Every time they clashed the level of violence was escalated, and if it hadn't been for AWOL's retirement, who knows how much further this would have gone. It seems a shame that in the history of the ULW and IWC, that every major faction eventually crumbles when facing success and find themselves at odds with each other, which was the case here as well. However, I'm sure the fans were saddened to see the split of the Holy War, they were more than eager to watch the physical campaigns that these two men waged against one another. A campaign that will live on through the countless years to come, and serve as a constant reminder that power trumps friendship.
2. Daemon Frost vs. Johnny Kingdom
Only two men made this list on three seperate occassions, and it's certainly no surprise that Johnny Kingdom would be one of them, considering his insatiable need to steal the spotlight. Believe it or not that's a compliment. But amongst his many landmark feuds, he's had perhaps no greater rival than the deranged S.O.B himself, Daemon Frost. The second that the Team Leader set foot in the ULW, World title contender Frost took notice, and knew it would only be a matter of time before they would find themselves in one on one competition. He wouldn't have to wait long for this, but of course to Kingdom, it felt like an eternity before he'd finally get his hands on the freaky Frost. In their first encounter, the World title was on the line, but they wouldn't get each other one on one, instead they'd square off in a triple threat format with Hellkat rounding out the fray. At Retribution, Frost would emerge victorious with the World Championship in his possession, but much like he'd endure in future encounters with Kingdom, he was left lying by the Team Leader at the end of the night. As their hatred for one another grew so did the insanity of their matches. They fought in an epic glass tables bout that saw Kingdom emerge victorious by the skin of his teeth. Later on the violence would be upped in the form of bout that now lives in lore, the Glass Chamber match. After spending the majority of the year chasing Frost for the World Championship, Kingdom would finally get his first one on one match against him in the Glass Chamber, and no one would soon be able to forget what both men put their bodies through for the sake of walking way with the title. Despite run ins and numerous other shennanigens, Kingdom would finally reach his dream of becoming World Heavyweight Champion. In all the previously listed feuds there is perhaps no greater contrast in personalities than you see between these two men. While Frost was deadly serious, borderline psychotic but loyal, Johnny Kingdom was brash, arrogant, and would sell his grandmother for the chance to be on a Wheeties Box. Their contrasting personalities is just one of the reasons these two would come into competition with each other, and tear the ULW landscape apart to prove they were the better man.
1. Desolation vs. Orlando Cruze
And now we've made it to number one on our countdown of the feuds that spanned the five year history of the ULW/IWC, and boy is it ever deserving of this top nod. Although it initially followed a very simple story, two men vying for the honor of calling themselves the Annihilation World Champion, it progressed onto become perhaps the single greatest feud in the company's long standing history. The issues between Orlando and Desolation know no ends, and there's numerous reasons why that is the case. After they both collided with one another as the two top stars on Annihilation, their relationship took an unusual turn, as Orlando Cruze actually became the Dark Man's pupil. After emerging victorious from their war for the Championship, Desolation agreed to take the Icon under his wing and train him in the art of not sucking. He would bestow upon him the knowledge and the traits that he required to reclaim the Championship from fluke title holder Alexander Fayt at Paranoia II. He would then go on to get revenge on behalf of his mentor by taking on the man who injured Desolation's arm, Shinzan Valfane. However, the story is far from over, and if it had concluded there it certainly wouldn't find itself at the top of this list. After doing everything in his power to avenge Desolation, Orlando went on a downward spiral. He lost his World title to Silencer, and upon concluding his rivalry with Lethal Weapon he began to question his reasons for remaining in the IWC. He only had one thing left to do, one honor remaining, and that was once again calling himself the World Champion. Unfortunately, when he came to this realization, Desolation was the one holding the title. Therefore, to make his intentions known, Orlando betrayed his mentor and turned to the dark side by Rock Bottoming Desolation in the center of the ring, a moment that will live on in the memories of fans around the world. As a result they went on to have an absolute classic at War of the Worlds for the Heavyweight title, in what has been dubbed one of the greatest matches in ULW/IWC history. In the end Desolation retained his title, but the issue was still far from over, as both men would meet again, this time in a triple threat match at Paranoia IV, within the confines of the Weapon's Lair. After all three participants tore each other limb from limb, Desolation shocked the world by betraying the fans and knocking Orlando out so that Hurse could emerge victorious with the World Championship. Now Desolation has a new pupil, a man that Cruze cannot stand in Hurse. In many people's minds this issue is still not resolved, and there's no telling what spark could ignite another classic Desolation vs. Orlando bout in the future. Due to everything these men have put each other through, the numerous trials and tribulations they've endured against one another, and the fans' enjoyment throughout it all, this rivalry stands at number 1 as the all time greatest rivalry in this company's history.
