Biography: Chuck Matthews started his in-ring career in an underground wrestling promotion known as the Revolution Wrestling Federation. He made his debut as a silent, mask wearing competitor known as CM Venom. He remained undefeated for nearly 5 months, before he lost a tables match with the stipulation that if he lost, he would be unmasked. He was saved, however, after the match, by another competitor, Sacrifice, who attacked the opponent before Venom lost his mask. The next week, Sacrifice was given a shot at the tag team titles, despite the recent split of his team. Sacrifice chose Venom as his partner. When it was pointed out that Venom was no longer allowed to wear his mask, he removed it, and was re-introduced as Sacrifice’s vampiric half-brother, Damien.
Damien and Sacrifice won the match and the belts, forming a stable alongside Sacrifice’s girlfriend, Lauren Taylor. They called themselves “The Sons of Malice.” For the next few months, they feuded with various teams, losing and reclaiming the titles in between. Later on, a problem arose when a man dressed in CM Venom’s original attire showed up in matches, causing Damien to become very angry and afraid. At these times, Damien would break down in the middle of the ring, or simply leave the ring altogether to chase down the imposter, leaving Sacrifice to fight alone. Sick of Damien walking out for a “loser in a ski mask,” Sacrifice demanded a match against his half-brother, in hopes that it would knoc some sense into Damien. On the noght of the match, a wrestler mockingly asked Damien what CM stood for in the first place. Damien knocked the man out before responding very simply, “Chuck Matthews.” This marked a long singles era. Chuck revealed that despite Sacrifice’s story, there was no relation between Sacrifice and Chuck. Chuck entered in a long rivalry with Sacrifice, picking up the Intercity title along the way. The feud ended in a new match, Anything Goes, a match Chuck designed specifically to hurt Sacrifice. After making a few minor tweaks, Sacrifice accepted a challenge to the match. Chuck won, and as stated by a previously stated stipulation, Chuck won the Intercity title and Lauren Taylor’s managerial services. Chuck lost the title later on, but he and Lauren grew very close. Lauren helped Chuck on his way to a second Intercity reign, before Sacrifice, who had aligned himself with a rising faction, returned to try and reclaim his girlfriend. Chuck won again in an Anything Goes rematch, this time earning Chuck a shot at the RWF Title. When RWF split into two sub-shows, Velocity and Anarchy, Chuck stayed away from his rivals, and remained with Velocity. He entered into a long losing streak, eventually losing a tables match which effectively sent him packing to Anarchy. Chuck won the Anarchy Tag Titles with a new partner, which later on earned him a spot in a Velocity vs. Anarchy winner-take-all match, where all the champions from both shows competed in an elimination tag match. Anarchy lost, and RWF became one show again, with Chuck being absorbed into the main roster. Chuck dumped his old teammate for a new partner, forming Generation Badass X. The team enjoyed two tag title reigns before they entered into a short rivalry with a rival team, ending in Anything Goes V, which GBX won before being assaulted by a newcomer to the federation. This put Chuck out with an injury, and he and his partner were forced to vacate the titles. Chuck returned to the ring with a vengeance, and a new gimmick as an enraged heel hellbent on winning the RWF Title. He finally did in a Hell Match, a series of five hardcore matches, where the loser of each match would be eliminated until one of the original six was left standing. Chuck lost the title quickly, but regained it a few months later in yet another Anything Goes match. He held the title for six months before losing it. He went into a slight slump for a while, dropping into the upper mid-card. He was entered into the Ring Royalty Tournament, a tournament that guaranteed the winner a shot at any title of his choosing, and the ability to schedule one match on every card until the title shot was used. Chuck won. He became the most hated wretler in the RWF as he abused his power, putting the champion in suicide matches week after week. He sold his girlfriend into prostitution for a week in exchange for an Anything Goes match for the belt, a move he made so he could get a title shot without using his tournament winnings. Chuck won the Anything Goes match, making him the main champion and the king of RWF at the same time. He held the title for 9 months, cheating to hold onto it for as long as he could. He defended it in a “Loser leaves RWF” match, where the winner would take everything: The title, the Ring Royalty crown, and the opponent’s RWF contract. In a controversial finish, Chuck lost, and his contract was shredded, forcing him to leave the RWF. |
