The Galaxy-class starship is one of the most powerful ships the Federation has ever designed. It is intended to serve as an exploration vessel, but in addition to a variety of different specialized research laboratories, it contains an impressive amount of firepower and excellent shielding. During the Dominion War, the Galaxy-class was one of the most successful fighting ships.

USS Odyssey NCC-98610-A is a new build Galaxy Class ship built to 25th Century Specs she is named in honor of the USS Odyssey destroyed by the Jem Hadar while rescuing Captain Sisko. While she may appear to be an aging workhorse exploration cruiser that is just her shell. Inside she is one of the most advanced vessels in existence equipped with all top of the line systems and technology. A similar approach was taken during the construction of Odyssey's Galaxy-X Class cousin USS Challenger NCC-98612.
