Lian Ting Li

Everyone in her family always said that Lian is lucky. Lucky to be born in a year that the harvest was plentiful. Lucky the missionaries arrived and opened a church/school so near her family's farm. And now the best luck of all, to have Uncle Chin send for her to come to a new land.

It had been hard for the little farm girl to travel so far all alone. The long sea voyage had tested her faith. As rough seas and terrible storms seemed to rage daily.

But that was nothing compared to finding herself alone on the docks in San Francisco. Holding open a carefully lettered scroll and hoping someone would come to claim her. Then send her to Uncle Chin.
