ESW
ESW Legacy - Tommy showed up in the ESW when the CWA was invited to participate Soul Survivor and ended up winning the one night tournament which than guaranteed him a shot at any title in the ESW. Tommy was quickly excepted in the ESW locker room and became one of the guys even though he picked fights with Brian Karagias, Rocky Hernandez and Kid Krazy to name a few. Tommy picked up the Survivor title and the 2009 Tag titles with Malk. Tommy rolled through the ESW towards the end of 09 racking up victory after victory but his biggest claim to fame is that he became Co Owner of the ESW and reopened it with help from Raven for 2010.

Bio

If all the world is a stage, then Tommy Purr is certainly the star.

Like the fictional Batman villain, The Joker, Tommy’s past has constantly been tweaked and changed, leading many to question the validity of Tommy’s backstories. Does he suffer from selective-memory loss … or is his constant change in his own backstory his attempt at guarding his private life from the various amount of people in his rogues gallery?

All we know for sure, after several background checks, is this:

Born and raised in Los Angeles, California … it was only normal that the future Man-Diva would one day become a star in his own right, birthed into a wrestling family that would one day become a dynasty. Tommy was born the youngest of a set of twins; his sister, Leda-Sophia, was born two minutes before him. The twins were the byproduct of wrestling legend Sumiko Watanabe and the notorious ring manager Jonathan Starsmore. The couple were never married, mostly due to the fact that Sumiko’s career always came first. As a result, Jonathan’s eyes began wandering (sometimes in different directions) due to the lack of attention from his lover. In fact, Jonathan’s eyes began wandering long before the twins had been born, as Sumiko could be cold and distant, leading to Jonathan having multiple affairs.

When the pair finally split, Jonathan stayed in the States while Sumiko opted to return to her native Japan full-time to continue her upward climb to legendary status. The twins were separated, Sumiko taking custody of Leda while Jonathan retained his son, in an effort to eventually groom him into the perfect wrestler.

From there … the story gets murky. We do know, from police reports, that Tommy Purr, at the age of sixteen, was the victim of a violent gay-bashing … his attackers were never caught, and this sparked Jonathan and his friend, Roberto De Lucas, to teach Tommy Purr how to fight. And by fight … we mean wrestle. Gerard Angelo was a trainee of Jonathan’s at the time … the brightest of all of his pupils, but eyewitness testimonials claim that while Gerard was considered a “surrogate brother” to Tommy, the two were highly competitive with one another and their training sessions would often result in them shoot-fighting.

We also know that Tommy suffered through two eating disorders and a very low self-esteem. How this came to be hasn’t ever been clearly outlined, and it’s something that Tommy Purr generally doesn’t like talking about as he is not proud of what he did to his own body. From all accounts, it would appear that Jonathan was actually a very supportive father, and that the only times he was not present for his son was due to his hectic work schedule … dispelling the kayfabe storylines that Jonathan was an abusive alcoholic who had nothing but disdain for his gay son.

Tommy Purr moved to Las Vegas with high school friends Precious Fairchild and Yvonne Peterson-Darkholme (the woman later known as Bombshell) to attend UNLV with a major in Public Relations and a minor in Advertising. Tommy wrestled the independent circuit in Nevada, and in his freshman year of college, Daniel Carney of the WWA spotted him and offered him a lucrative contract for his fledgling promotion. The signing of two legends’ son definitely garnered attention and Tommy Purr instantly became a fan favorite amongst the WWA’s audience. Tommy debuted on television in the summer of 2000, and once Carney showed his true colors as the owner of the company, it was the brash eighteen-year-old who decided to put his employer in his place.

Teaming with Bombshell (another trainee of Jonathan’s) in a Mixed Tag Team Match against Carney and his lackey, “The Showstopper” Jake Young, Tommy picked up the win for his team … and due to the pre-match stipulation, became the company’s new Commissioner as a result, leveling the balance of power. Tommy never abused his power and went on to have memorable feuds with many members of the roster, a trend that would continue through his career for the next decade and up. Two people, however, stood out from the pact. One was Wolfe Ballie, real name Jayson Keller, who would terrorize and humiliate Tommy throughout every promotion the two found themselves in. How this hatred for Tommy came to be is still a mystery to this day, even to Tommy, who hadn’t crossed Jayson’s path in any way … at least intentionally.

The other person to stand out was the vixen Amber LeBeau, who crossed paths with Tommy when she began hunting down Bombshell and her WWA Women’s Championship. Many people watched on television as it was revealed that Jonathan Starsmore was Amber’s biological father, unknown to even her. Backstage, however, it was a chance meeting between Amber’s visiting mother and Tommy’s father that revealed Amber and Tommy as brother and sister. Irritated with Tommy Purr thwarting his power-hungry ways, Carney decided to air all of the dirty laundry on-screen for everyone to see …

Jonathan was then hired on and renamed Big Poppa Power and brought in as a heel, Carney’s manipulative way of trying to tear the fragile family apart. The storyline was so successful, Carney brought in Alexander Conger and repackaged him as Max Power … the older half-brother to Tommy and Amber. From there, the family name was thrashed as “more family members” were brought; Carney’s vain attempt to make as much money as possible off of the highly profitable names of Jonathan, Amber, and Tommy.

When Carney eventually disappeared (rumor has it he went into hiding after the IRS came after him), Purr attempted to keep the company afloat … losing the final match in the WWA to Amber in the first-ever Stairway to Heaven Match for the vacant WWA World Championship. Had Tommy won the title, he would’ve been the only person to have held every belt in the promotion.

From there, Tommy, Amber, and their friends traveled from promotion to promotion, only for each to fold like a deck of cards. There were many classic feuds that Tommy had and many memorable matches, many involving Jayson Keller, who was on a mission to destroy his sworn nemesis. One person who also set out to defame and demoralize Tommy Purr was “The Real Deal” Gary Mac. He was considered the next big thing in wrestling … and when he joined the XHWF in 2001, he somehow received a shot at Tommy’s World Championship in the second week of his being in the company. Tommy won a grueling Best Two-Out-of-Three Falls Match in order to retain the title … and he seemed on top of the world.

Tommy’s family life was back in order and with the collapse of the WWA, Tommy was freed from the ridiculous amount of “siblings and cousins,” he had and was able to portray himself freely (in the WWA, Tommy and Bombshell were marketed as a romantic couple and details of Tommy’s true sexual identity were ever mentioned or were carefully hidden on-screen). Gary Mac sought to ruin Purr behind the scenes as well as in front of the camera. Wrestling media outlets reported that Tommy had demanded that Gary Mac take a dive during the match, rumors that were started by Gary Mac himself. To make things even worse, Gary Mac seduced and charmed Tommy’s manager, Catherine Robinson. The two married swiftly, catching the Man-Diva off-guard.

From there, it was one mind-game after another.

When the XHWF closed down, Tommy joined the EWF at the urging of Catherine … a promotion headed by Gary Mac. Even though it was Gary Mac’s home turf, Purr still managed to outshine him, which infuriated Mac to no end, resulting in him driving Catherine through a commentating table with a Powerbomb. This rivalry kicked up a notch as both parties joined the hWo. However, what Tommy Purr wasn’t expecting was that he’d make one more enemy in the process … and a third would join the fray.

Jayson Keller joined the hWo, corrupting Tommy’s sister Amber LeBeau into turning against him … a move that earned Amber her brother’s International Championship. The two went their separate ways for years, with Tommy carrying a grudge against his sister, who had aligned with his worst enemy. With Tommy virtually devastated, Gary Mac hammered in the final nail in the coffin … and Tommy was fired from the hWo under accusations of discrimination and hateful bigotry. Falling from grace and without a job, Tommy turned to self-medication, relying solely on anti-depressants in an attempt to get through his emotional pain.

Tommy began taking as many bookings as possible in an attempt to stay relevant. Catherine’s marriage to Gary Mac had soured the two’s relationship, and even as Catherine married Jonathan and became Tommy’s stepmother, he still had no desire to have her in his life. Tommy went through a change, going by his birth name of Tommy Watanabe and doing everything to shed his Tommy Purr image … all at the suggestion of his psychiatrist, Dr. Merci Jackson. Joining IW, Tommy found himself in the company of both Jayson Keller and Gary Mac … AGAIN. Merci convinced him that if he couldn’t beat them … to join them. Tommy became one-third of the Acts of God trio, and was treated as a pet and as a goon. When it came to the group, Mac and Keller looked out for one another and would feed Purr to the lions. To Tommy, it was a paycheck … and he was going to suck it up. Finally, when Keller was on sabbatical, leaving Mac in charge of the group, Tommy found himself ousted from the Acts of God and eventually left IW … this actually led to Keller and Mac’s falling-out, with Keller furious that Mac had driven Purr out of the company.

In the BCW, the wildcat and the wolf finally ended their long-standing feud … and Purr and Keller joined forces as manager and wrestler, respectively, dominating the company with their combined abilities before the promotion eventually closed.

Tommy continued to rove around the independent circuit until Gerard Angelo contacted him, urging him to come to the GWO.

This proved to be the move that changed everything for Tommy Purr. Entering a new company with a new outlook on life, Tommy Watanabe took back the name of Tommy Purr and embraced his inner-asshole, having learned from the tactics of Mac, Keller, and his sister Amber. Joining the most dominant stable in the GWO/CWA – Youthful Aggression – Tommy learned from another rule breaker in Rated-R. To some degree, Tommy was completely infatuated with the phenomenal wrestler … his admiration knowing no limits … to the point where when Gerry and Rated-R. began feuding, Tommy sided with his new mentor. However, this was a wise move perpetrated by Tommy’s new manager, the stepmother he made amends with, Mrs. Robinson. Attempting to fix the damage Merci had done to Tommy’s career, Catherine advised Tommy to get close to Rated-R., the promotion’s top star … and that the brief betrayal of Gerry and Bombshell would pay off. Ryan, in order to gain Tommy’s trust, helped break him of his reliance on his anti-depressants, claiming Purr was indebted to him.

Tommy proved, however, in a long-standing feud with Ryan, that he was not the emotional lapdog that everyone thought him to be and eventually bested the manipulative Superstar on several occasions, usurping his mentor at every turn.

What Tommy and company didn’t know was that Sumiko Watanabe was furious that Jonathan had strayed so many times during their relationship (resulting in Amber’s existence). She was also not amused that Catherine Robinson doted on Tommy as if she were his real mother. Sumiko returned to the States to exact vengeance against the family … and used Hoshi Yakamoto as a pawn while going to war with her own son. After that was finished, Sumiko devised another plan on breaking up the father/son duo … and there came the claim that Jonathan wasn’t Tommy and Leda’s father.

In the midst of a feud with up-and-coming CWA star, Eli Ryder, it was revealed that Eli’s legendary father, Japhy Ryder, could very well be the father of Tommy and Leda … as Sumiko had been carrying on her own affair behind Jonathan’s back. A fake paternity test convinced Eli and Tommy they were brothers for a long time, before Tommy found out the truth of the false test and demanded a new one in the summer of 2010.

In late 2009, Tommy Purr bought Steve Sinclair’s shares in ESW from “Double J.” Joe Jones, teaming up with Raven Sinclair to reopen the once-prominent promotion as Shannon Skanes relaunched the CWA. Since then, Tommy Purr has also gone through a bitter divorce from ex-husband Damien Shaw … and has also made amends with sister Amber, bringing her into the ESW to bolster his amazing roster of talent. Tommy Purr also reconciled and reunited with former tag team partner and lover Daniel McCoy, seemingly getting his personal life back in order.

Learning from past mistakes and experiences, one can be guaranteed that Tommy Purr is more than capable and ready to lead his merry bad of misfits into another golden era of Empire State Wrestling.

There has never been a more exciting time to be a wrestling fan than now.

And the same can be said for being … the Sexcellent One.
