Damon Harrison was born in a Durham Hospital the week of Thanksgiving. Growing up as a kid he excelled in many sports. He was a solid first baseman, an outstanding linebacker, pretty good wrestler, and a decent forward. He did this all in high school. He was just searching for himself. He loved playing sports but couldn't narrow it down. He was always told how great Duke and UNC were. He had nothing to do with it. A man with an opinion. He enjoyed watching Wake Forest. Not as celebrated as the other two schools but more academically prevalent. The man who made up his mind about Wake Forest was Ray Childress. He lived in a basketball focused community. He saw Rodney Rogers thought he was pretty good but this point guard was gutsy. He liked the intangibles. That was about the 8th grade. His love for that team grew stronger. He worked on his basketball game all the the time. This is how he became explosive, and quick. However, this is not the sport where he was so gifted Division 1 schools were looking at him. He also played football. The scouts soon impressed with his size and strength. His senior year he was heavily recruited by North Carolina, Wake Forest, Louville, and South Carolina. Only one school however said he would get an opportunity to play basketball for them. That was South Carolina. Damon's love for Wake Forest prevailed as eventually got a scholarship and headed to a place not currently playing great in football. He tried to walk on to their basketball team but got cut before any games could be played. He was disappointed but, he knew of this possibility.
