Live Commentary + Race Summaries Week 7

Race 1:
Curragh Cup 1m 6f 3yo+ OPEN Group 3 Curragh:
Going: Soft to Heavy
It was a race, that featured only one horse, that had previously won a race, ISIS(DOC), and it was that horse, that should prevail,
in the end, but it was a hard piece of work, filly Ministrel Song from LIH made it a very tough race, for the Maiden winner,
both horses came from behind, and the unconsistent Nearenough Dropout and Lightening set a challenging pace
to begin the race. But with 4f out, it already became clear, that it would be a 2 horse race, ISIS just won the photo finish,
and could win the Group 3 event. Nearenough Dropout finished way behind in 3rd. The speed of 124 for the winner
was nothing special, but just enough to win this Group 3 event.

Race 2:
Pretty Polly Stakes 1m 2f 3yo+ Fillies Group 2 Curragh:
The race brought an enjoyable moment for JDA stables, the so far luckless and smiled upon stable won it's first race, and it was a great
Group 2 race, a lot of people thought that the race had a clear favourite in Itch, who really appreaciated the going, but it showed, that she didn't
have her best day, and just rode a steady race in 4th place. So it was Beattle Bum, taking advantage of the situation, and showed a great
performance, getting a 3 length lead ahead of both delamore fillies, with Go Slow in 2nd and Lenin in 3rd. Ballet Shoes, winner of the Musidora
Stakes was a big disapointment, not liking the ground and finishing 6th. Both Delamore horses and Ballet Shoes have entries in the Nassau Stakes, where
they could face Twix, who we will see later in the Eclipse Stakes.

Race 3:
Railway Stakes 6f 2yo OPEN Group 3 Curragh:
The race for 2yo should be a very interesting one, 5 horses, lined up, including one filly, none of the horses was a winner, with one making his debut, and
2 second place finishers. 4 horses went for the lead in the fast sprint, but it soon showed, that Desert Trooper was injured, and really couldn't run the race
to the end. Sinchronicity and Avelino got clear pretty early, and showed their strength, but in the final furlong Sinchrnicity drew clear and won the race
by 2+ lengths. The 118 was a great Speed Rating for a 2yo, and the horse should still get better. Thickgail finished a further 2 lengths back in 3rd.
The top 2 horses should be looked at as premium canidates for sprint prices still to come, but both are still very imature, and might need some
long recovery times.

Race 4:
Irish Derby 1m 4f 3yo OPEN Group 1 Curragh:
It was a Group 1 Race, with the label revenge, and only 7 horses at the start, Milky Way, Ocean Boulevard and Edmonton were the top 3 bet horses
for the Prix du Jockey-Club, but that day, only Milky Way showed it's usual performance, winning the race easily, Ocean Boulevard finished 4th and Edmonton
even worse, 6th. The race today further fielded 4 horses travelling from Germany, debut Mondragon(WHS), plus Sakhi(HEI), Prix Greffuhle 2nd Next Desert
and Zauberer(both ROL), but those 4 horses should have a tough day, it was the duell of Milky Way and Ocean Boulevard everyone expected,
just the level was a little bit below what we expected, none of the horses had a good day, or perhaps it was just a tactical race, but they both couldn't impress.
The early running was made by Sakhi, and after 4f, Zauberer got injured, Next desert and Sakhi also never got into the race, they had a bad time dealing with
the going. So it looked a 4 way race, coming into the final 4f, and it was clear, that Milky Way and Ocean Boulevard were damn close, both waited to show
full speed, and when they found it, with 2f to go, there was less than 1/2 length between them. In the end, it needed a photo, but it was pretty clear,
Milky Way would get it, and he did, it was less than 1/4 of a length, but a win is a win. Mondragon secured 3rd ahead of Edmonton. Milky way only ran a 126,
12 speed points slower than in the Prix du jockey Club, Ocean boulevard was only 1 point slower than in Chantilly, but this was enough for 2nd
place this time. Mondragon and Sakhi are in next weeks big races in ascot and Dusseldorf pre-entered, while Milky Way and Ocean boulevard hold
entries week 9 in the Private Banking Pokal.

Race 5:
1m 2yo Colts Maiden Curragh:
It was a maiden race with 7 colts making their debut, and wanting to show their skills at a mile. And it was recently traded Running Bear,
that came away with a 1 length plus victory, for Memos Stables, who struggled lately, but looks to have gotten a great 2yo in this one.
2nd was Xander for STR, with Double Reprisal in 3rd. Running Bear profited from a great planned race, where he was the only stalker
and was set up well, by the 2 lead horses, who tired each other, to make the room free with 2f to go.

Race 6:
1m 2yo Fillies Maiden Curragh:
The mile race for Fillies gave German Stable ROL a victory, with their filly Ronaldinha, who showed a great performance, GTS was once again unlucky,
and Magic Onyx finishing 2nd 2 1/2 lengths behind. Stars&Stripes was forced into the lead, by a very slow pace in the first 3f, then it was Ronaldinha to
give the race a speed boost, and travelling along for a well earned victory. She looks to be a top mile horse, but will now need a long rest period,
to come back and step up in class.

Race 7:
Angesey Stakes 6.5f 3yo OPEN Group 3 Curragh:
Going: Soft
There was less rain and the ground changed to Soft in the second part of the Curragh Derby meeting, which featured the Irish oaks later.
The 6.5f race was only a 2 horse heat, featuring maiden winner Florida and maiden 2nd Timbit, the colt should have the better day today,
it never was in question, he is the better horse, and the filly never showed her full potential, Timbit got an easy 2 length win, with a pretty slow
speed of 84 for a Group 3 race, but the circumstances and the 2 runner field didn't allow much more.

Race 8:
Goffs International Stakes 1m 3yo+ OPEN Curragh:
The race featured two mile stars, who already won group 1's and faced a 3kg penalty for it, Mars, winner of the French and Irish Guineas, needs soft
or heavy groun, and connections stated, they had to come here, as they didn't find other possibilities, and the colt needed a race. It is not sure, if Turbo Saints
Delamore stable felt the same, but the Racing Post trophy and Prix Jean Prat winner also took 3kg extra weight. The field was completed by 5 more colts and
one filly, from newly licensed BDS stable, but Tangledupinblue was simply overmatched, and never a factor. When the horses started, it showed, that the extra weight took a lot out of Mars, and especially Turbo Saint, who never was a factor, ran a bad race and finished 6th. The race was led by Winded early, but he soon was overmatched and surprise horse and stalker Kingston took over, but for just a furlong, he should finish 3rd, it then showed the class of so far
unlucky Triano, who took the race in his hand, and ran away with a 2 length triumph over Mars, who had a good day, but just couldn't compensate the 3 extra
kg, and finished 2nd. None of the horses is in next weeks Group 1 Sussex Stakes, but race winner Triano holds a pre-entry for the Bayrisches Zuchtrennen
in week 9.

Race 9:
Irish Oaks 1m 4f 3yo Fillies Group 1 Curragh:

Horses are parading:
Let's look at the runners:

2 Quebec(DER)
2:1-0-0, won Maiden
3 Alberta(DER)
3:1-2-0, 2nd Prix de Royamaunt
4 Rephrase(DUF)
2:0-1-0, 2nd Prix du Jockey-Club

3:1-0-0, won Maiden
7 Polar Star(GTS)
3:0-0-1, 3rd Maiden
8 Rhombus(CHI)
2:1-0-0, won Prix du Lys
9 Nearenough Slacker(NEA)
2:1-0-0, won Oaks
10 Escada(ROL)
2:0-1-0, 2nd Prestige Stakes

Horses are going down
A very interesting race, with a huge field of 10, favourites include Oaks 1st and 2nd Nearenough Slacker and Heart of Stars,
who are joined for their rematch by Prix du jockey Club 2nd Rephrase and Prix du lys winner Rhombus, further winners are
Aljaarif, Alberta and Quebec, which should round out the noteable horses in this race.

Horses arrive at the starting gates
they are put into the boxes

THEY ARE OFF!!!!!
Rhombus easily takes a huge lead, with the rest of the field fighting for places.

1m 3f to go
Aljariif bumps into Polar Star, as all horses look for good place.
Alberta and Quebec both representing DER look also for room.

1m 2f to go
On the other side Kate moss tangles with rephrase, and the fight for the places just gets uglier.
Nearenough Slacker seems the only horse, out of it, looking for more room than the others,
running from behind.

1m 1f to go
But something looks wrong with the NEA horse, she looks unsound, and really now looses lots of ground.
In front, Quebec gets 2nd, while Rhombus controls the pace and runs a lonely race.

1m to go
The figth for 2nd gets harder, with Heart of Stars, Aljaarif, Escada and Alberat pressuring Quebec.

7f to go
Nearenough Slacker looks injured, she has to stop the race.
Rephrase seems to have a bad day, the Prix du Jockey Club 2nd finds no rhythm and is looking lost in 7th.

6f to go
Quebec now looks to challenge Rhombus, who still controls the pace,
behind them it's still 4 or 5 horses looking for 3rd now.

5f to go
Quebec launches an attack, but Rhombus just quickens the pace and denies her the lead.
Behind them Alberta the 2nd DER horse looks in good position.

4f to go
Epsom Oaks 2nd Heart of Stars is looking to join the 3 in an attack at race leader Rhombus,
with Escada and Polar star also close.

3f to go
The field still only seperated by a few lengths, and almost every horse still in it,
even Kate Moss, who many thought not classy enough is close.
The attack is now launched by Alberta, she easily passes Rhombus, and no one looks to match her speed.

2f to go
Alberta now is 2 lenghts clear moving, this looks like a very fast pace, with Heart of Stars, Rhombus, Aljaarif, Polar Star
and Quebec still fighting for 3rd, Rephrase like said earlier back behind them in 8th, and Kate Moss now loosing contact.

1f to go
They come near the line, and Alberat just continues moving, she gets an easy 4 length triumph,
behind her it's Rhombus and Heart of Stars, this looks like a photo for 2nd, with Quebec in 4th.

The speed rating is a 157, what a smashing performance.

Official Result:
1. Alberta(DER)
2. Heart of Stars(SWR)
3. Rhombus(CHI)

Race 10:
5f 2yo Fillies Listed Curragh:
A walkover win for 2yo filly Baghdad.

Race 11:
1m 2f 3yo Colts Maiden Curragh:
It was a race for so far unlucky horses to show their class, plus two debut horses, but those didn't look too good, it was IRM Kirby, who
took the race into his hands, and got a convincing 4 lenght victory over JDA's Middle Emblem, who got 2nd in a photo with Silver Rabbitoh,
who debuted for RWS. the 127 for Kirby is a nice Speed Rating, with which he can now look at Listed or Group Company.

Race 12:
1m 2f 3yo Fillies Maiden Curragh:
The Maiden for 3yo fillies brought no surprise, as favoured horse Bitter Grapes from FLE got a 1 1/2 length win over WHS Macatea, both
horses had 3 unsuccessful starts before, and now got a victory, the 115 for the winner was nothing special, bot she showed, she might do better
with more experience.

Race 13:
Cherry Minton Stakes 6f 2yo Fillies Group 3 Newmarket:
Going: Firm
A sunny day in Newmarket, began with the Group 3 race for fillies, which included 2 debut horses, plus a second and a 3rd place finisher. Favored by
conditions was the HEI horse Anabelle, but also Strawberry Road was often mentioned, but she had a poor day, not only having a bad day,
but also picking up an injury forced her to abandon the race, and will put her on an extra week layoff. The race was then dominated by Annabelle,
who showed all her class, and got an easy 6 length victory, the other 2 fillies battled for 2nd, and it was Lady Nikita who beat Blue Crush
by 2 lengths, both horses made their debuts, and might develop more potential later, while Annabelle, who now will need some recovery, looked imature,
but already pretty quick, the 110 rating is outstanding for such a young filly.

Race 14:
Princess of Wales Stakes 1m 4f 3yo+ OPEN Group 2 Newmarket:
It was a race featuring Derby dissappointments and developing 3yos, the traditional race was for one horse to show he is a great classy horse, that just
wasn't ready Derby day, and that was LOKs Electrolyte, he really ran down the 1m 4f like it was his day to be called a star, he not only won by
5 lengths ahead of Kia Kaha, but also ran a great 156, putting him in a line with Derby winners and class horses, it has to be seen, if he can confirm
that time in the future, but it can be said without doubt, he is a great horse, with the stable not pre-entering him, he might need supplementation for the
big races. Kia Kaha confirmed his status of a very close horse, already finishing 3rd in the Italian Derby, but he was on the loosing side again.
3rd was Crime Fighter for FLE, who was shown he might be limited to Group 3's in the future. It should be noted, that Tarnished Silver was injured in the
race.

Race 15:
July Stakes 6f 2yo Colts Group 3 Newmarket:
3 Maiden horses took the start in the Group 3 July Stakes, and the 2yos showed, they still need a little bit of developing time, but it was once again
a 2yo of the HEI stable, that took the win, after Annabelle in the Cherry Minton, it was Sharp prod, who won the race with a 112, and got a 4 length victory,
the other 2 horses got in a photo, which was one by M&M, who denied Im Tired the 2nd place. All horses already looked consitent, and with a little bit
of development might be factors for the upcoming 2yo Sprint events.

Race 16:
Falmouth Stakes 1m 3yo+ Fillies Group 2 Newmarket:
A field of 7 talented fillies lined up for the Group 2 price, including 1000 Guineas 2nd Bonanova, Musidora Stakes 2nd Departure and English Sunset
all represented LIH, while Silver Star winner of the Diomed Stakes and AK Sunshine were among the fillies mentioned for the win.
In the race Urania and The Swamp Monster set the early pace, while it was Bonanova to launch the first attack, but she didn't have one of her best days,
and from behind, it was stablemate Departure who took the lead for good, getting a solid 3 length win in front of Silver Star and Ak Sunshine, who were
close for 2nd and 3rd. AK Sunshine is entered in the Bayrisches Zuchtrennen and the Nassau Stakes week 9, but the step up in class could mean trouble,
also both races are very thin concerning entries.

Race 17:
July Cup 6f 3yo+ OPEN Group 1 Newmarket:

Horses are going down
A great field including some of the very best sprinters, 2yo stars Wildfire and Thunder Road, this years 2nd best sprinter filly Tottenham Girl,
won already 2 Group 2's, unbeaten Desire's Gift, not yet proven against the best, journeyman and Group 1 winner last year Nearenough Cheeky,
there is the Lowther Stakes winner Bicuspid, plus Distant Thunder, last week 3rd in the King's Stand Stakes and stepping back in distance Twillight Time.

Horses arrive at the starting gates
they are put into the boxes

THEY ARE OFF!!!!!
Bicuspid takes the lead, Desire's Gift and Thunder Road close,
the rest of the field behind.

5f to go
It's Wildfire and Distant Thunder alongside Tottenham Girl behind them,
this looks to be a close race with some sprint superstars.
Nearenough Cheeky is the only one that comes from behind, but he looks overraced, and his
best days may already be behind him.

4f to go
Bicuspid has an uncontested lead, still it's Thunder Road and Desire's Gift behind.
Desire's Gift really has been held in lower ranks and is unbeaten, but today, she may find it one level too high.
Tottenham Girl and Wildfire still close behind.

3f to go
It's Twillight Time on the outside now attacking Thunder Road, Desire's Gift falls back,
as she can't keep the tempo. Behind them it's Wildfire and Tottenham Girl.

2f to go
Distant Thunder travelling well, and now it's Twillight Time with the lead, Thunder Road also can't keep,
the pace, it's Wildfire and Tottenham Girl still in contention, Bicuspid right behind the leader,
hasn't given up yet.

1f to go
On the inside Distant Thunder goes through, Wildfire next to her, still Twillight Time perhaps a head in front,
Bicuspid fighting, here comes Distant Thunder and next it's Wildfire, they are close,
but Distant Thunder and Wildfire go for the lead, they come near the line,
it's a photo, Distant thunder and Wildfire in a photo, Bicuspid and Twillight Time in a photo behind.

Official Result:
1. Distant Thunder(BRO)
2. Wildfire(RWS)
3. Bicuspid(DOC)

Race 18/19:
6f 2yo OPEN Maiden Newmarket:
A walkover win for Bainbridge National, breaking it's maiden without beating an opponent.

Race 20:
Deutscher Herold Preis 1m 3yo+ OPEN Group 3 Hamburg:
Going: Firm to Good
Only 4 horses went to the line for the Group 3 Mile prize, and before they went off, a lot of people thought Montreal
would just march through, and that's the way it was, but the speed and style he showed was simply unbelieveable, he won with
a near record speed of 147, a performance, no miler has produced so far, he appreciated the step up in distance,
and now connections might think again about the targets of the horse, now having won 3 Group 3 prizes, and perhaps looking
for a step up in class. A well beaten 2nd, 11 lengths back was Mary Place, the filly just beat another Filly Velvet Moon, who didn't
like the ground, but still beat one home.

Race 21:
Holsten Trophy 6f 3yo+ Group 3 Hamburg:
The sprint prize only saw a small field of 2, and it was Fred Darling Stakes 2nd Malaysia, getting her first Group win, when beating
Benazet rennen winner Goodbye, the young filly had the better day, and showed a good performance to win the Group 3 race
by 4 lengths. Malaysia is pre-entered for the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest, a race that should suit her, as she has proven to be
a pretty versatile sprinter easily getting an extra half furlong.

Race 22:
Deutsches Derby 1m 4f 3yo OPEN Group 1 Hamburg:
The German Derby only saw 4 horses travelling the long way, all horses were shipped to Germany, as no home horse attempted
to get the prestigious prize, the field consisted of Ihavehadworsethanbadluck, the Italian Derby 2nd, Golden Star, the Epsom Derby 2nd,
Adlem's Legacy, Prix Greffuhle 3rd and Epsom Derby disappointment, and Prix Penelope winner and only filly Nearenough Dreamer.
With the small field, all horses got a clear run, and it was Ihavehadworsethabadluck, to set the pace, but after 1m, he had to find out,
he just set the pace for excellent stalker and today great performing filly Nearenough Dreamer, the filly took off,
and the other horses didn't see her again until she crossed the line, she won by 6 lengths ahead of Golden Star.
Her 149 showed her great performance, and she remained unbeaten. Golden star, who might be seen alongside Adlem's Legacy, who ran another disappointing race in 4th and last, might be seen in the King George and QE Diamond Stakes next week again, the huge summer prize attracted a lot
of long distance horses, but both need to be a lot better than today. No future plans for Nearenough Dreamer are known, the still very fragile
looking filly might need her usual 3 weeks off after this race.

Race 23/24:
7f 2yo OPEN Maiden Hamburg:
Tigris got an easy 10 length win in the never contested Maiden race, the other two horses simply had no class or were misplaced,
Tigris looks like being worth an aiming at Group races, and never had to show her full class today, to destroy the two other horses.
We can expect to see a lot more by the young Filly.

Race 25:
Eclipse Stakes 1m 2f 3yo+ OPEN Group 1 Sandown

4:3-1-0, won Prix Saint Alary, 2nd Prix de Diane et Hermes
11 Statuette(LOK)
2:0-2-0, 2nd Dante Stakes

Horses are going down
As huge the 11 horse field looked, it is not as strong, as many think, on paper the G.P. de Paris last week saw the better horses,
but every race is different, the favourites today in the betting, were the two fillies, Kitty's Back, who was unbeaten until the Prix de Diane et
Hermes two weeks ago, and Twix, who finished 3rd in the Prix Saint Alary behind Kitty's Back. Other interesting forms are Teddy's Lad,
winner of the Prix la Force and 5th last week behind 4th last week Joe Millionaire, then you have to consider Statuette, 2nd in the Dante and
Corn Pitt, who is still unbeaten, after winning only one maiden so far.

Horses arrive at the starting gates
they are put into the boxes

THEY ARE OFF!!!!!
Novocaine sets the pace, then it's a fight for second,
with Nearenough Edson, Kitty's back and Statuette.

1m 1f to go
Twix is running a free race behind the 3 stalkers, she is unchallenged, and behind
her is a pretty lazy speed set by the backmarkers.
Novocaine is still easy in front setting a good pace.

1m to go
Novocaine is unchallenged, with Kitty's back and Statuette close.
In the fight behind Twix, it's Blind Faith, Teddy's Lad and Joe Millionaire.

7f to go
Novocaine with the pace, the field is moving smooth and at a pretty fast pace.
Corn Pitt doesn't like the ground and already struggles, also struggling is Statuette.

6f to go
The high pace takes it's victims, and Realization, Just a shot away and Nearenough Edson
are also looking bad. In front, still Novocaine sets the pace.

5f to go
A great run by Novocaine, Kitty's Back is right behind him, trying to find a good position,
but as Nearenough Edson and Statuette loose positions, Twix moves in 3rd.

4f to go
Joe Millionaire and Teddy's Lad now gaining positions, they move into 5th and 6th,
with Novocaine still ahead of Kitty's Back and Twix.

3f to go
Kitty's back now goes out of the running, and tries to attack, she goes alongside Novocaine,
but she seems not able to pass. From behind Joe Millionaire and Teddy's Lad approach quick,
moving in 4th and 5th, now Twix is launched.

2f to go
Twix going right next to Novocaine, with kitty's back still on the outside,
now Teddy's Lad approaches the three, with him is Joe Millionaire.

1f to go
It's a 5 horse race, the pace by Novocaine was very quick, and he has to pay tribute,
Twix goes in front, she opens a 1 length lead, can she hold it?

Yes, Twix wins, close behind it's a photo between Teddy's Lad and Joe Millionaire,
Novocaine in 4th, Kitty's back in 5th.

Official Result:
1. Twix(SHS)
2. Teddy's Lad(WHS)
3. Joe Millionaire(DEL)

Race 26:
1m 2f 3yo+ Fillies Listed Sandown:
The listed race saw a close contest between John ull, already placed 3rd twice in group Company this season against debut horse
GoodtoSeeyou, the two took the lead with the start, and battled for the win the whole race, in the end it was a photo that was necessary
and gave John Bull the close win, the speed rating of 104 was not impressive, but can be blamed on the tiring duell between the two horses.
More can be expected of both fillies in the right race.

Race 27:
6f 3yo Fillies Listed Sandown:
Autumns Aunt Flo already succesful in the Palace House Stakes at Group 3 level, seemed to use this race to build up on her form,
taking the 3kg Penalty weight and beating talented filly Tadley Girl by almost a length, she came from behind, and took the win in the
closing stages of the race. Tadley Girl already placed at group Level last season, showed her skills, but in the end couldn't match Autums Aunt Flo.
The 111 was not very impressive, but in relation to the penalty weight, can be seen as an average performance, which was enough today.

Race 28:
2m 3yo OPEN Listed Sandown:
The stayer Listed race only got 3 runners, and it was Queens Vase 2nd Romper Stomper, that left no doubts, he wants a Group win sooner or later,
a nice 129 in a 3 horse race, showed his skills, and left Dianes Ridge and Twix battling for the places, whcih was won by Dianes Ridge in a photo
finish. but both horses were more than 5 lengths behind.

Race 29/30:
1m 6f 3yo OPEN Maiden Sandown:
The last race of this weekend only had 3 runners, and brought no greatness, NIR Tomcat just beat Molar from DOC in a sub-par race,
with the winner only getting a 100 Speed rating, which is for a 3yo not very classy, and shows, that both horses might be best suited in Listed races
and not above.
