[Jessica couldn't believe how quickly the past few weeks since her son Evan was born had gone by. What helped in the past few weeks was having Evan's father, Robbie Mitchell in the picture. Jess knew that Robbie would have loved to have started things up between them once again but she was very hesitant. It wasn't that she didn't love him it was just that she wasn't sure if she trusted them together as a couple. A lot of hurt went on between the two of them and if they went through that situation all over again it would kill Jess. She did however agree to moving back into Robbie's house so that father and son could be close plus it made Robbie feel better if Jessica and his baby boy weren't alone. Robbie had come up with this idea and after pleading his argument Jess had agreed that perhaps it was the best. They weren't going to be sleeping in the same room as Jessica had the guest bedroom which was just a few doors down from Evan's nursery. Jessica had decided to invite her good friend Jenna Biesen over along with Jenna's fiancee Jared to have dinner at the house. It had been a while since they had all been together and Jesse missed her friend. Jenna had also contacted Jessica because over the course of the past few days things between her and Jared had been very strained. Jessica hoped that in spending time with the two of them she might be able to find out what the problem is. So it was this evening close to Seven-Thirty when Jared and Jenna were due over that Jessica was downstairs in the living room with Evan in her arms feeding him his mid-evening bottle. Robbie came walking in and at seeing the two of them he smiled. Jess returned it as she focused her gaze back down at her son.]
Robert Mitchell: [He walked over to them and looked down at his son.] What time are they supposed to get here?
Jessica Hendrix: Any time actually. There's something I want to talk to you about before they get here. [She set the bottle down and positioned the baby on her shoulder so that she could burp him.] I was talking to Jenna earlier and she said that Jay has been acting distant toward her lately and she didn't know why. I just figured that maybe you and I could keep an eye on them and perhaps you could talk to him.
Robert Mitchell: Yeah I can do that. [He said as he slid his hands into his pant pockets.] Should we really be getting involved in other people's drama though? We just got done with our own and now we're throwing ourselves into other people's?
Jessica Hendrix: I'm just trying to help out my friend that's all. Jenna's worried that he might be rethinking the engagement. [She gently patted Evan's back.] When you and I were going through our own stuff it was Jenna who was there remember? I just think it's only fair if I return the favor. [She looked at Robbie.] You can understand that right?
Robert Mitchell: [He nodded] Yeah I can and if this is what you want to do then of course I'll help you. [She smiled at him.] I'm going to go and check on dinner and see how it's doing, that is unless you want me to take him and put him to bed.
Jessica Hendrix: Actually yeah, that would be fine. I just changed him so he should be fine to put to bed. [She handed Evan over to Robbie as she took the towel that was on her shoulder off and held it in her hands.] You know I think we are so lucky to have been given such a good little boy. He never cries unless he's hungry or needs a diaper change and even then he's just so calm. He definately has to take after your side because my side is anything but.
Robert Mitchell: Ah your side isn't so bad Jess. [He said as he held his son in his arms.] All right I'm going to go and put him down.
[Before he left he leaned in and placed a gentle kiss on Jessica's lips. She returned it as Robbie then left with Evan in his arms. She watched the two most important men in her life go upstairs as she couldn't help but smile to herself. Despite what had happened with Robbie, Jessica still loved him deeply and wanted them to be a family with Evan. So far the three of them living together had been working out. Jessica slid her hands into her jean pockets as she walked into the kitchen to check on the dinner she was making. As she was about to walk over to the stove, she heard the doorbell ring. Figuring that it was Jess and Jared, she quickly checked on her dinner and then walked to the front door. She opened it and standing before her was just Jenna who was obviously trying to force a happy smile.]
Jessica Hendrix: Hey you, it's great to have you. [She leaned in and hugged her and after pulling back looked around for Jared.] Where's Jay at? I thought he was coming.
Jenna Biesen: Oh he'll be over later. [She shrugged her shoulders as she walked in, shutting the door behind her.] He had something to take care of, he wouldn't go into details. He said to tell you guys that he'd be along later and to go ahead and start without him.
Jessica Hendrix: Oh well all right. [She said as she led Jenna into the living room where they could have themselves a drink.] I'd give you a tour of the house but you've seen it all ready so what's the point? [She laughed as she went to make Jenna her favorite drink which was a Screwdriver.] What's going on though with you and Jay? I know you're trying to hide it but you're scared Jenna, so out with it. What's going on?
Jenna Biesen: [She walked over and stood on the other side of the bar counter as Jessica made up the drink.] Honestly there's a lot going on. [Jess slid the drink over to her which had a small straw in it. Jenna began to stir it as she looked down at her glass.] I was so happy when Jay proposed to me because it seemed like everything was starting to fall in it's place. I mean my parents were accepting of it and even gave him their blessing but now it's like everything is falling apart. [She looked up at Jessica.] I went and spent some time in Malibu with my parents and it seemed like everything was going great. That was until my last day there that my father came in and said that I needed to get over this whole wedding planning thing.
Jessica Hendrix: Huh? [She asked as she looked at Jenna confused.] What did he mean by that?
Jenna Biesen: What he meant was that the only reason they have Jared their blessing was so that hopefully I would see how wrong he and I are for each other. [She said as she took a long drink of her Screwdriver and then set it down on the counter top.] What it came down to was that either I break off my engagement with Jared or my parents disown me, cancel the album, and cut any financial help they've been giving me. I chose Jared and now my parents have cut me out of their lives.
Jessica Hendrix: [Her eyes went wide as she could hardly believe what she was hearing.] Wait, what? Maybe they're just bluffing. I mean come on they aren't really that vindictive are they?
Jenna Biesen: Oh but they are. You know at first I thought that maybe they were just joking but they were bluffing but they weren't. In fact I got a letter in the mail today from school say that all payments to them have been cancelled and if I don't come up with the money then I am not longer attending there. [She exhaled as she took another drink.] I made my choice now and I have to live with it. [She laughed a little bitterly.] Wouldn't be ironic after I've gone through all of this with my mom and dad that Jay is now thinking he made a mistake in asking me to marry him?
Jessica Hendrix: [She walked over and placed a hand on Jenna's shoulder.] Yes it would be ironic but it isn't going to happen. Jared loves you and breaking off your engagement is the last thing he would ever do.
Jenna Biesen: [Before Jenna can respond her phone began to ring. She reached into her pocket and took it out. A hopeful smile crossed her face as she answered it.] Hey Baby, where are you at?...Oh really but...I see...Well you are still coming to din...You're not?...What if you came later on? [She turned her back to Jessica so that she couldn't see how upset she was getting.] Do you know what time you'll be back at the house?...Then I guess I'll see you in the morning? All right, I love you...[And with that she ended the call and hesitated before turning around. Finally she did and faked a smile.] Well something's come up and Jay isn't going to be able to make it.
Jessica Hendrix: Did he give you a reason?
Jenna Biesen: Just busy I guess. [She tried to keep faked smile on her face but it was no use.] Jess I hate to do this but I'm really not in the mood to hang out. I know I'm being a bitch but I think I'd just rather go home and wait for Jay.
Jessica Hendrix: Hey I understand completely, we'll just have to do this another night when things are going better. [She leaned in and hugged Jenna.] If you change your mind though you are more than welcome to come back over. And if you don't feel like being alone tonight I could come and stay with you until Jared gets back. I don't think Robbie would mind staying with the baby.
Jenna Biesen: No I'll be fine, I promise. I really would just like to be alone. [She hugged her back.] We'll get together soon though, I promise. Tell Robbie I'm sorry I couldn't stay...
Jessica Hendrix: I will Sweetie...[She said as the two walked to the front door. Jenna opened it and looked back at Jess.] Hey everything is going to be okay. Maybe Jared is just having some weird Male PMS bullshit. Don't let it discourage you.
Jenna Biesen: I won't. [She said as she pulled her keys out of her pocket.] All right I'm out of here.
Robert Mitchell: [Jessica watched her go and shut the door behind her. She turned and saw Robbie coming down the stairs. She offered him a smile as she walked toward the foot of the stairs.] Hey what's going on? I thought I heard Jenna down here.
Jessica Hendrix: Yeah you did, she ended up leaving. [She slid her hands back in her pockets.] Jay called and said he wasn't going to be able to make it. And that put her in a mood so she opted to just head on home.
Robert Mitchell: Oh well I guess it's just you and me tonight then. [He raised an eyebrow as he looked at her.] How do you feel about that?
Jessica Hendrix: This isn't the first night we've been alone Robbie. [She said as she leaned back against the wall.] Last night we were here alone together.
Robert Mitchell: Yeah but we were preoccupied with the baby and you went to bed early. [He took a step toward her so that he was standing right in front of her.] This is the first time we're really going to get to spend some one on one time together.
Jessica Hendrix: [She looked him directly in the eyes.] Yeah I guess it is, so ummm what do you want to do?
Robert Mitchell: Whatever your comfortable with. [He said as he took his hand and rested it on her cheek. He then trailed his fingers from her cheek down the side of her neck.] You know how much I love you Jess and I don't want to push you into anything you aren't ready for.
Jessica Hendrix: Maybe I am ready Robbie, I mean you only live once and you've really proven yourself to me since the baby was born. [She took her hands and put them around his neck.] I really do love you Robbie and I want things between us to work. [She exhaled as she leaned in and rested her head on his shoulder.] Let's go upstairs and see where things go. I'm not making any promises because I still think it's too soon after having the baby but there are other things we can try. All I know is that I don't want to sleep alone tonight. [Robbie nodded as Jessica took his hand and the two went upstairs. She didn't know where the night was going to lead but all she wanted was to just spend the night with him.And it looked as though that is exactly what she was going to get.]
