Welcome to my world
[Kayla glanced down at her schedule for her new school and bit down on her lower lip. It was her first day at Echo Park and she was nervous to say the least. Being around new people always made her nervous and starting a new school was definitely no exception. Biting down on her lower lip, she walked into the classroom, the place was disruptive with the teacher not in the room and Kayla glanced around for an empty seat. Finally she found one in a back corner and shyly made her way to it. She slipped into her seat and placed her bookbag down at her feet. She looked around the room and brushed some hair behind her ear. She turned and looked at the student sitting next to her.]

Kayla Knix:

Excuse me, I'm sorry to bother you but is this Calculous?

Alexander Knightly:

Yeah, you're in the right place.

Kayla Knix:

[She breathed a sigh of relief and sat back.] Good because it's my first day and the last thing I need is to be in the wrong class at the wrong time. [She looked over at him.] How embarassing would that be? [She realized how stupid she sounded and turned her attention back to the front of the room.] Probably not as embarassing as rambling onto a guy I don't even know.

Alexander Knightly:

Probably not.. [He smirked a bit as he looked at her.] Could be worse though. You have to admit that.

Kayla Knix:

I'm not sure that it could. [She said as she shook her head and looked at him.] I'm rambling on like some kind of idiot to say the least on my first day in a new school. [She rubbed her forehead.] And to top it off you probably don't care about anything I have to say.

Alexander Knightly:

Well, not really, but it's kind of funny watching you get all flustered. [He laughed softly.] I'm Alex.

Kayla Knix:

[She laughed as well and smiled at him, extending her hand.] I'm Kayla and I'm this school's new meat I guess you could say.

Alexander Knightly:

Been there, done that. [He took her hand and shook it gently.] It's not so bad. In about a week, most everyone will forget who you are.

Kayla Knix:

I'm not sure if that's all together a good or bad thing. On the plus side if they forget who I am then, I don't have to worry about being singled out. But then on the negative side of things, I could become just a wallflower and fade into the darkness. Then my senior year will completely suck as I go through it alone.

Alexander Knightly:

It's really best not to think about any of that. Surviving is the key.

Kayla Knix:

Isn't that what high school mostly is, survival of the fitest?

Alexander Knightly:

Pretty much, yes. Even more so when you're new and in your final year, wouldn't you say so?

Kayla Knix:

Ughhh, yes I would. [She shook her head.] I moved from a small town in Indiana, out here to this huge school. This is freaking culture shock for me. [She rolled her eyes, annoyed with herself.] Here I go again, you're probably just praying that I lose my voice all of a sudden so you don't have to hear my incessant talking,

Alexander Knightly:

Not really, though that would make this conversation even funnier. [He grinned at her.] This place isn't too bad once you get used to it. I know being new isn't easy, but your instant popularity fades once they figure out where you fit in.

Kayla Knix:

And since you seem to be such an expert on the topic, where would you say that I fit in?

Alexander Knightly:

[He looked her over carefully, taking in her appearance and body.] Cheerleader... or gymnast. You've got a bit of a turnout, but too many muscles for a dancer.. Am I right?

Kayla Knix:

Pretty dead on. [She smirked to herself and bit down on her lower lip.] I have to say, you know the cheerleader body type quite well, any reason for that?

Alexander Knightly:

Yes, but there's no reason to discuss that. [He smirked a bit as he turned his chair towards her. It was clear the teacher wasn't going to be showing up anytime soon.] How are you enjoying your first day?

Kayla Knix:

It's moving really slow to say the least. [She turned her body toward him.] I mean what's not to love? I get lost everywhere I go and show up late. [In a mocking voice.] It's like the best first day ever!

Alexander Knightly:

Well, I could show you around. I don't know this place as well as others but I've figured my way around.

Kayla Knix:

Won't that make some of the girls around here just a teeny bit jealous?

Alexander Knightly:

They can handle it. [He laughed slightly.] Besides, wouldn't want you to get lost again, would we?

[Kayla shook her head and laughed as well. The rest of the day up until lunch went quite smoothly. Alex had invited Kayla to sit with him and that is where the two of them were. They each had their lunch trays and were getting to know one another. Kayla reached over and grabbed her iced tea, taking a long sip of it. Finally she set it down and looked Alex.]

Kayla Knix:

Thank you so much for being so nice to me today. I gotta tell you, I was really nervous about my first day.

Alexander Knightly:

Well, my first day here wasn't that long ago and someone reached out to me so I know how it can help.

Kayla Knix:

I just... [She looked down at her lunch tray.] I really didn't want to move here. The only reason I did is because my mom got married. [She looked up at Alex.] Moving in the middle of your senior year isn't really ideal.

Alexander Knightly:

Trust me, I know. My family moved here and I didn't have much of a choice but to come with them.

Kayla Knix:

It sounds to me like we're kind of in the same boat then. [She took another sip from her iced tea.] So tell me about yourself Alex, I feel like I'm the one who's done all of the talking here about themselves. Seeing as how you're my new friend and all I would like to know at least a little dirt on you. [She smiled at him.]

Alexander Knightly:

There's really not much to tell. I moved here from England just after Christmas and I've been trying to survive ever since. The school systems are a little different. My little sister is young enough that the difference doesn't really affect her, but I hate it here. I nearly begged my parents to send me to boarding school back in England.

Kayla Knix:

I can understand that. But I'm glad your parents wouldn't let you because then I wouldn't have anyone to keep me company on my first day.

Alexander Knightly:

Oh, I'm sure you wouldn't have too much trouble finding someone to show you around. I think some of the other guys would love to volunteer.

Kayla Knix:

Yeah but I don't think any of them would have been as charming as you. [She bit down on her lower lip and looked down at her tray before looking up at him.] So I have to ask...Do you have a girlfriend Alex?

Alexander Knightly:

Well... no, but that whole area of my life is a bloody mess. I may have it sorted by graduation, if I'm lucky. [He smiled a bit.]

Kayla Knix:

[She smiled back.] That aspect of my life was actually the one thing I was glad to get away from by moving here. Mine as well was a huge mess to say the least.

Alexander Knightly:

Well, I think I'd like to hear about that. Why was it such a mess?

Kayla Knix:

I guess you can say I have this crazy ex who would not leave me alone. [She shook her head.] We were together for about two years and he just continued to get more and more posessive. Finally I had to put an end to things and when I did he just lost it. Would not leave me alone.

Alexander Knightly:

Wow, that's more messed up than mine. Mine is filled with drama, not stalking. [He laughed a bit.] Well, at least you're safe here.

Kayla Knix:

Yeah, thank God for that. [She looked at him.] Well now that I've opened up to you about mine, I want to hear all about your drama.

Alexander Knightly:

Alright. I suppose it's only fair. It started about two summers ago when I met this girl. We were both vacationing in the south of France. I'd just broken up with my girlfriend at the time and she was single. We had a great time together and I completely fell for her. She went home and so did I. Then, I move here this year and who do I run into? She was sitting there in a coffee shop. I never thought I'd see her again. She's here, I'm still crazy about her and she's in love with someone else. Now, to complicate things even more, I became sort of friends with one of the cheerleaders here. It's one of those love-hate things where we get on each other's nerves but at the end of the day, we're alright. Things got hot and heavy one day. She's not interested in a relationship but she wants me to teach her things so she can please future boyfriends, which as much as that sounds like every guy's dream, it's really not. Especially because I feel guilty for what happened when I care so much about Bella. That's the basics. There's a lot more to the story but I think I've given you the main idea.

Kayla Knix:

[Her eyes were wide as she looked at him. Finally after a few moments of silence she spoke.] Wow, I really don't even know what to say...[She shook her head.] That was a little more than I bargained for but you definitely have the drama market cornered. I think you need someone you can talk to though, you know get all of this off of your chest so it doesn't just build up.

Alexander Knightly:

I do have one friend I talk to about it, but she's got her own problems and I don't want to add to it all.

Kayla Knix:

Well I am virtually problemless so you can add to mine.

Alexander Knightly:

[He laughed softly.] Well, I appreciate that. I may take you up on that offer.

Kayla Knix:

Well I hope you do because when I finally have a few problems, I'm going to need someone to talk to.

Alexander Knightly:

Sounds like a deal to me. [He reached forward, grabbed a french fry off her plate and ate it with a grin.]

Kayla Knix:

Hey! [She said with a smile.] We aren't that good of friends yet but I suppose I'll let it slide this time. [She sat back and pushed her tray away.] I better head back to my locker, the bell's going to ring any minute.

Alexander Knightly:

If you need any help finding your next class, just let me know and I will be there.

[Kayla smiled and nodded. So far her first day had gone really well, thanks to the new friend she had in her British Comrad, Alex Knightly.]
