Jessica felt sick to her stomach as she held her cell phone in hand, it was her own fault though. She should have done a better job of covering her tracks and coming back to one of her hometowns, probably wasn't the best way to go about it. Someone from her past had found her, someone who had meant the world to her but in the end had been just like the rest of the men to come through her life. Back then she would have given anything to see him again, but he had left. He had left her to deal with the downfall of the decisions they both made and now he was back? It was difficult to wrap her mind around and the fact that she would be seeing him again in just a little while was screwing with her as well. As she stood in the kitchen of her apartment getting her purse organized, something she did when she was a nervous wreck, she heard the door swing open and then shut.
Jayson Owen Hendrix:
I've been trying to call you, text you; you send me a message like Damon getting in touch with you and then you don't reply? What the fuck Jess?
She turned and saw her twin brother standing before her; his fists were clenched which was something he did when he was anxious. Biting down on her lower lip, she shrugged shoulders and to steady herself, placed her hand on the back of a nearby kitchen chair. It was no surprise to her that he was agitated with the news she had laid before him. Jessica hated putting her brother through yet another wave of worry when it came to her, but he was all she had left, the only man she could ever depend on.
Jessica Madison Hendrix:
I guess I had a bit of a freak out there, I'm going to handle it though. He wants to meet me in about thirty minutes and I am going to. [Jayson started to protest, but she held a hand up to stop him.] No Jase, don't even try to reason with me into not doing this. [Deep breath in, deep exhale out.] He knows about the money, I don't know how he found out but that was the first thing he called me on.
Jayson Owen Hendrix:
Let me go with you; that way if this is some sort of trap set up by Nick you won't be a lamb in the lion's den.
Jessica Madison Hendrix:
I apprieciate you being the protective brother, but I have to take care of this on my own. [Her eyes glanced up toward the wall clock and then back at Jayson.] I have to go, it'll take me at least fifteen minutes to get there.
Jayson Owen Hendrix:
I still think this is a really bad idea.
His worry for her was all too familiar, it had always been that way and it meant more to her than anything. She grabbed her now organized person and slung it over her shoulder. She walked toward Jayson and gave him a hug. He returned it but the concerned look on his face did not soften. It didn't how often she reassured him that she could take care of herself, he still tried to fix all of her problems for her.
Jessica Madison Hendrix:
If things do get out of hand, I promise to call or text you. That way if I absolutely have no choice, you can come save me. [She broke the hug and walked toward the door. Turning back to look at him once more, she offered him a small smile.] I'm a big girl Jase and whether you believe it or not, I can take care of myself.
She didn't even give him the chance to protest before walking out of her apartment. Time was going way too fast for her and her stomach was in severe knots. She had never thought she would see Damon again and as much as she said she despised him, it just wasn't so. She couldn't ever, but she had to pretend; not for his sake but for her own. He had abandoned her, leaving her to clean up the mess they had created together and for that she might not be able to ever forgive him for.
