March 30th, 2000 - The controversy surrounding the finish of the SGW World Title bout at Heartbreaker was so strong and damaging to the company's reputation and legitimacy that Arn Anderson contemplates quitting and shutting down the company. When wind of Anderson's mindset reaches Ted Turner, who owns TBS where SGW Mayhem is broadcasted, Turner offers Anderson more money in return for an active role behind the scenes in order to take some of the weight off of Anderson's shoulders. Anderson jumped at the opportunity but Turner's ego would not allow him to stay behind the camera for long as he soon debuted on-screen, naming himself the commissioner of Solid Gold Wrestling and immediately made his power known by stripping all champions of their belts. Ted Turner announced a tournament to crown the new SGW World Heavyweight Champion. |

November 3rd, 2000 - With Solid Gold Wrestling fading further and further into the past, Shane McMahon comes to the rescue and buys half of the company. Working side by side with Arn Anderson, Shane funds the company out of his own pocket, promising to make the company bigger and better than ever before. Shane McMahon booked an Eight Man Survivor Match to determine the new SGW World Heavyweight Champion. |
"BIG POPPA PUMP" SCOTT STEINER (2) Handler Date Won Length of Title Reign | |
The Eight Man Survival Match saw Scott Steiner and Taz (Matt Emerson) as the last two men standing. November 15th, 2000 - "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner was attacked and horribly injured by "The Franchise" Shane Douglas and his new Four Horsemen. When Scott Steiner decided that he had done all he could do and beaten everyone SGW had to offer, he took an extended vacation and left the championship belt in the care of Flair. February 17th, 2002 - Arn Anderson's revelation that he was behind The Apokolips the whole time spurred a mass talent walk-out that effectively ended any chance of the company continuing past that date. September 24th, 2005 - Val Venis (Brett Albers) broke into the vault located in the League of Champions headquarters where all of the Solid Gold Wrestling archives were contained, including all championship belts and other artifacts from SGW's history. There, he stole the SGW World Heavyweight Championship and the New Era Wrestling World Heavyweight Championship and proclaimed himself the champion of both long-dead companies. "The Six-String Samurai" Jeff Jarrett (Josh Smith), the last remaining representative of both companies on the League of Champions roster, demanded a match to regain the championships from the undeserving Val Venis and Steamboat allowed the match to occur under Ladder Match rules on October 8th, 2005. |
