scene one, setting up to showdown
My eyes drifted across the marble floors, they danced off the golden walls and looks towards that ever massive logo which hung over the front desk of this magnificent building. The logo which proudly displayed the acronym of our corporation... the NLCW.
"If you'll just step this way, we can begin your interview."
I took a deep breath as I followed the staff member down the hollowed halls of NLCW Headquarters, my eyes taking in everything that they possibly could. I held a high respect for this place that was making me into it's top teir star... and higher respect for those people in the staff that truly believed in me, and my ability to finally acheive my dreams. I've came so far in life just to get to Sunday... and it was they who granted me this right.
It took the people upstairs to decide I was worthy to participate in that Road 2 Slamfest tournament against all those other well-known names, it took the people upstairs to thrust me higher up the ladder each week despite my relative 'newness', for lack of better term, to the federation.
They believed in my abilities, they believed I could beat whoever they brought before me...
They believed in me.
They're not the first.
My family, my friends, my loved ones... all throughout my life the people who were supporting me never faltered. It was those people who looked at me and didn't see the downfalls I'd experienced, didn't see the flaws that I had... that truly believed I could get the job done.
"Please don't fall behind, Mr. Pericolo! Today is a busy day for us here at No Limits Championship Wrestling Headquarters, what with preparing for Slamfest and all. If you keep up at that pace then the event will have alrady passed by the time we finish this interview!" called the staff member over his shoulder, hurrying along down the hallways like a chicken with its head cut off. I allowed a sigh to escape my lips as I continued forward at a faster pace, still trying to take in all I could of this place.
"I'm sorry... it's just that this is only the second time I've been here, and already so much has changed since the first." I said softly, looking around. There were posters proudly displaying events of NLCW's past-- several of which were the posters of the historical Slamfest pay-per-views. Every year this event occurs... and every year it got bigger and bigger.
It was this year, however... that would top every year behind it combined. At least, that was my opinion. Win or lose... Slamfest was a night I would never forget.
"Well, we do try to keep things looking nice around here. Keep up the corporate image and all... aha! Here's the door, Mr. Pericolo... Michelle Davis should be waiting for you on the other side." said the man, turning to me and offering his hand to me, "It's been a pleasure."
"Thank you very much, keep up the good work." I smiled, shaking his hand and then stepping by him to open the door. The room was an incredible one-- the ceiling hovered high overhead and the floors were finely waxed and polished, pillars supporting the ceiling with pictures of some of the greatest of NLCW stars hung in frames on their sides. Media equipment surrounded a white area where two seats were carefully placed facing each other. The camera crew was frantic in getting good placement of the shots for the upcoming interview, as Michelle Davis and her assistant performed the finishing touches on her makeup.
"Is my hair okay?" asked Michelle, trying to see through the hands in front of her face into a small pocket mirror in her hand, as her assistant applied a light blush to her cheeks.
"Of course, darling! You look beautiful!" smiled the assistant, her own looks not fairing as well as the NLCW's prized interviewer. Davis smiled at her reflection in the small mirror before pocketing it and turning, catching sight of me with a startled look before offering an even broader smile and a wave. I waved back to her and she turned to speak with a cameraman, perhaps making sure all was ready for this big, final interview before Slamfest would begin... and I made my way through the mass of working people to reach that white stage before me.
"Are we all set?" I heard one man speak from behind a swarm of staff members, their clipboards occasionally clacking together as they flipped through their schedules for the coming day. The thought that next entered my mind was a pretty logical one, based off of all that I was seeing... why didn't they ask me later in the day? It was relatively early, and everyone was dead set on getting all the important things done for Slamfest... why not just call me in when that all was finished?
'Well... I guess they probably have their reasons.' I thought to myself, absentmindedly watching with a small smirk on my face as two of the staff members ran into each other, dropping their clipboards with loud 'clacks' on the ground. Suddenly the voice of a female beside me cut through my absentmided daze and I focused my attention towards her with a smile-- Michelle Davis was ready to begin.
"Alright everyone, I want complete silence in this room! The interview'll be starting shortly, and I don't want either of our voices to be overshadowed by anything! If you have other work to get done, leave this room within a minute's time, otherwise we ask that you don't say a word, and don't make a sound!" she called out, as the cameramen began counting down the seconds left until go-time, so that their filming could be perfectly synchronized with each other's.
Michelle turned her attention towards me as many members of the staff began to file out of the room, which had very suddenly become painfully quiet. With a smile, she asked, "You ready for this Dominic?"
My eyes locked with hers and I nodded my head, taking a deep breath and offering a smile and my words, "Of course I am... just a bit nervous is all. Getting down to the final wire here... I really don't know what to expect."
"Not many do with this match... going to be one for the ages." Michelle said softly, turning her head to face the cameras as we both awaited that red light to come on.
"Alright everyone... here we go. We're on in three... two... one... go!"
