Telephone Call To Thank A Hero

Ring... Ring... Ring.

The tone of the telephone ringing was all Dominic could hear for several moments, taking off his jacket and closing the door behind him as he began to wonder if his father was even awake at this hour. Then again, where they were at it should only be about 9:30 or so, which shouldn't be too late. Finally, he heard a click and the ringing stopped. Dominic's breath caught in his throat before he heard a voice on the other end, it souned somewhat tired... but strong as ever. It was his father.

"Hello?" his voice sounded across the telephone. Dominic smiled and leaned back in his chair lightly, sighing a bit and speaking.

"Hey dad... it's me, Dominic. How you been?" he asked, before hearing a laugh on the other end of the phone. The laugh was a happy one, and for a few moments Dominic shared the laugh, before the both of them quieted down and his father responded.

"Hot damn son, it's about time you called! I was wondering if you'd forgotten what a damn telephone was! I've been doing fine, old age has gone easy on me ya' know. So how the hell have you been?" he asked, no doubt beaming on the other line.

"I've been doing good, dad... I've been doing good. I was just calling to ask you for some advice... " he began, but he heard his father on the other line chuckle lightly and stopped, quirking his eyebrow.

"I was wondering if you'd forgotten that I was your father, and that I'd always be here for you, too. Go ahead son... .I'm all ears." he said.

Dominic smiled, making his way over to the nearby couch and plopping down on it. Before he spoke, he sat up slightly and rested his free elbow on the coffee table in front of him, thinking of different ways to conjur up what he wanted to ask. Finally, having settled on what he truly wanted to say, he opened his mouth and began speaking.

"I did it, dad... I actually won the title. I still remember that night when you guys called me, mom was so excited and you were so proud... yet even with this title, I still feel incomplete, you know? I still look to give these fans a hero they'll never forget... to give the world a wrestler they'll always remember. In some ways, it still feels like an impossibility... yet in others it feels so close it actually kind of scares me. My question is this... where... where do I go if I finally do accomplish my dreams? What will I have left to do, dad? I mean... how will I know when it's finally happened, that if I ever decide to finally take off my boots... they won't just fade in time? I just... well, will my life finally have been complete, if that actually happens?" He asked. Dominic heard his dad chuckle softly at that last line. After all... it was rather odd to say such a thing.

"Son... the day our lives reach completion is the day we die on our own terms, not on the terms of another. Die from old age or natural cause, and you've found completion. Die from a bullet to the head or a disease and your life was stolen from you, but you have all the time in the world in the afterlife to find completion on your own. If you do accomplish your dreams... that doesn't mean it's time to stop then. When you've grabbed ahold of your dreams there's only one thing you can do, son." he said, going silent for a bit.

Curious, Dominic responded slowly, eyebrow quirked slightly. "What's that, dad?" he asked. His father chuckled on the other end of the line again.

"Hold on like hell and never let go. Ride out your dreams until the very end, son. You're a Pericolo, and Pericolo's never give up. Remember that." he said. Dominic chuckled as well.

'No need to worry, dad... ' he thought, 'I've never forgotten, and I always will remember that. Always.'

"So... anymore questions you need to have answered, kiddo?" Dominic's father asked, "Or do you just wanna talk about the weather?"

"Actually... " Dominic began, a smirk growing on his features. "I do have one question... "

"Fire away, my boy." his father responded. Dominic paused on the line, a grin slowly spreading across his features as he looks over at the NLCW title, sitting on his lamp stand. The light glinted off the gold lightly, as he couldn't help but grin wider before softly speaking into the phone.

"Do you know how DAMN good it feels to be me right now?" he said, trying to keep all the seriousness in the world before breaking out into laughter. His father laughed as well, realizing just how out of character that was for Dominic to say, yet how amazingly beautiful it was that his son could finally say such a thing.

'That's my boy... ' his father thought, smiling proudly as tears formed in his eyes.

'That's my boy... '
