act five: prepare to be educated

It's well established that Christopher Champion isn't going into this Sunday's When Worlds Collide at the prime of his career. Here is a man that, quite literally, fell from grace harder than any could have imagined him to be capable of doing when he retired.

A man who had absolutely everything going for him and let it all slide into the shadows out of selfishness and self-doubt... and then hides under the guise of a change that never truly took place beyond the fact that he is, in fact, dying.

Christopher Champion is the author of his story, a story that could have lead to an amazing ending were it not for the fact that he simply could not let himself be satisfied with how things were happening. Always the alcoholic, Champion fell into the embrace of his eldest friend Jack as a means of escaping the ill-comfort and insecurities of a life left without participating in the sport he loves so much.

Champion had a future, a very bright future with the prospect of world tours and returns to the ring something not out of his grasp; however, rather than take such a future into his hands and pursue it... he ran to the familiar embrace of his addictions, and lost everything in his diligence to follow a darker path.

He alienated his friends, he abandoned his family... and though he regrets doing such things, he continues to do so even now, even now when he claims to be a changed man. He sees no other alternative to his situation because his pride and stubborness blinds him, and in the end... he neglects his health to a point of sheer insanity.

He has simply given up caring... he will do whatever it takes to defeat Dominic Pericolo for the NLCW Heavyweight Title, because he knows that with it around his waist he'll have the power to control his fate in the NLCW and, in turn, potentially control the NLCW's fate as well... a stark contrast to the lack of control he has over his own.

He is 6'2". He is 228 lbs. He is dying, and yet fights forward... and though he claims to do it all for the glory of the NLCW, and all for the chance to revitalize the dying company he's returned to... he's holding back the truth.

It's not just for the NLCW... no, because such an agenda would not be befitting Christopher Champion. Everything he does, the sacrifice and the ill-will towards his own personal being? He does it for more than just the future of this company...

He does it to ensure that his name might live on forever, alongside of the company that saw him make that name in the first place.

He does it just as much for himself as he does for anyone else.

He is all the same as he has ever been.
