act eight: a day in the life

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

Well, this is it. Just got out of the short meeting with the board, looks like I won't be needed for anything else tonight but the match, so it's about time I start preparing for that. I've got my tapes prepared, got my equipment all set up in my locker-room... all that's left is to train and prepare.

One of the hardest things about a hardcore match and preparing for it is the unpredictability of how things will go down. York doesn't seem like the type to go ultra-violent on a guy he has no grudge against, he's probably just going to throw everything into the match and do what he has to to win, but I doubt he's out to kill me. Still, never hurts to prepare for the unexpected, so I'll be on the lookout for any tells of his in the ring for when he comes at me with a weapon, be it his fist or a 2x4 or what have you.

I'm not sure what his motivation's going to be coming into this match, either. Is he out to recapture former glory, or is he just back in the ring because he legitimately missed it? Does he really want this title, or did it just so happen that he wanted to face me and I needed to defend it at the pay-per-view? Eh, so many unanswered questions going into this thing... I'm not exactly used to that, but I suppose I'll have to make due with what I have. No matter, though, my fate in this new run with the NLCW is already sealed, and I know exactly the direction I'm headed in. I don't expect to lose tonight, that's not my chief concern, what is is how I'll make it out of there with my bones still in-tact.

Way I figure it is, so long as I've breath in me to spare, York won't be able to keep me down for the three seconds he'll have to to win. I just have to stay focused and work with my environment, do what I can to use his momentum against him.

Such a shame though, really... it's just going to be me and York tonight for the title. I'd sent out an invitational to everyone participating in the NLCW to join in on the match since I'd wanted to defend the damn thing and he was the only one to take me up on the offer. I guess everyone else was too busy or something, or they just didn't want to bother with the Hardcore title. Doesn't matter too much to me though, to be honest... if anyone DID ignore the invitation just because they perceive the thing to be a "lower tier title" then they won't know what hit them by the time I work my way back up to where they've perched themselves. Fact is, I could actually do that at any moment, I'm just biding my time.

After all, why do I need to rush? The World Title scene isn't anything new to me, I don't need to be there right now... what I need to be doing is trying to spark some life back into these other divisions that are lacking because everyone has their eyes on the highest prize. Fact is if we don't have activity going on in these other areas, the "highest prize" will turn into the only prize. I just wish more people would actually be able to realize that.

Anyway, enough writing... gotta get to reviewing the tapes. Should be a hell of a night.

Oh, and if Paul York happens to somehow read this thing (God knows why he would, fucker better not be stalking me... you reading this, York?! I hope you're not, but if you are, cut it out!), then I guess all I've really got to say is the same thing that's been said before, and the same thing that always seems ever so relevant to the outcome of these matches: York? Not even the Messiah can save you now.

See you tonight, kid.

Provided you read this anyway.

Otherwise that was a bit pointless.

... erm, yeah.
