While I haven't been a part of Defiance very long, I enjoy the fact that you guys do a lot of discussion backstage about non-ewrestling topics. One of my passions is scripted television, and I want to have a forum to speak to like minded individuals about the state of entertainment!

Now, I'm having a hard time finding my next series to watch, and am open to suggestions. The most likely candidates for me to start on are Boardwalk Empire, Justified, or True Detective. But I actually really want to find a good 30 minute comedy. My options are picking Suburgatory up for it's final season, or starting on the Goldbergs.

As an aside, I'm watching the Season finale to Friday Night Dinner, a show from the UK that was almost adapted in the US with Tony Shaloub and Allison Jenney. It's been pretty fantastic.

So, what are you watching right now? What's your favorite shows? What do you love about broadcast TV?

Watching right now: Friday Night Dinner (Just ended season), True Blood(I'm a glutton for punishment and small perky tits), Last Week Tonight w/ John Oliver (Fucking awesome), Impractical Jokers (Fun show), and I had recently gone through Deadbeat (Hulu starring Tyler Labine) & Avengers Assemble(Cause, well, Marvel's pretty bad ass these days, even if the show is eh on the side of good).

Favorites: Breaking Bad, The Wire, Battlestar Galactica, Venture Bros, Rick & Morty, Community, Buffy, Angel, Arrested Development, Chuck, Fringe, Archer, Eastbound and Down, the Shield, Boy Meets World, Simpsons, Home Movies... I'm sure I'm missing quite a few shows I've thoroughly enjoyed.

I watch Arrow, Elementary, I want to see Gotham, got behind on Walking Dead - might pick it up again, spoiled myself on a few shows that I'm trying to forget before diving into them again. I don't watch Game of thrones, I read the book(s) so I don't get too attached to a story that isn't finished... Although I'm already attached to the story because it isn't finished. I also read a lot of manga, anime, American comics when they catch my fancy.

Boardwalk Empire - as a fan I recommend watching it, but don't bother with the last season (if you have HBO) unless you've got some backing in previous seasons. As far as I can tell it's going to be a culmination of all things prior, and some of it will not make sense unless you know some of the history. Also Michael Pitt as Jimmy Darmondy was one of the better character choices they've made.
Last Week Tonight
Game of Thrones
Breaking Bad
Once Upon A Time
Agents of SHIELD
Anything on ID
Anything on History Channel

I'm starting Defiance soon, too. I've had Magic City in my hands for a while, but I can't get motivated to watch it.

Also want to add the binge - watching for Suits recently and now have to wait for weekly episodes like a savage. I don't think I've ever gone from hating to liking a character as fast as Louis Litt.

Blue, you gotta watch Chicago PD with Fire. It crosses over nicely and reminds me, I need to add them to my ridiculous list that shows how much of a loser that I am, lulz.

Loved the first season. I'm waiting for Season 2 to finish. That episode where he has the stunt where he's going to expose himself to kids if he can't break the handcuffs by the end of the show was great theater / parody! I love that show.

You know they originally wanted to have sketch elements in that show but dropped 'em when they realized the gold mine they had? They were worried Comedy Central were going to have it be more like Amy Schumer / Key and Peele, but they were game and as such, BRILLIANCE. Way better than the Ben Show, which while solid, was not special.

I think the Goldbergs' will be my next show, cause Jeff Garlin is awesome and he used to do a dollar show every Sunday at UCB in LA - and he'd just give away random shit, old scripts, power cord extensions, just whatever his agent / fans gave him that he didn't give a shit for.

I have a friend who worked on Fire - was not a fun experience, and the show seems so formulaic. Is it better than just a regular ol' procedural? Don't get me wrong, I watch my fair share (House, Franklin & Bash, Psych, etc), but I usually like them to have strong leads or a strong comedic tone.

Weird shows that aren't well known that I'd highly recommend include: Pilot Season, Kitchen Confidential, The Jake Effect, Don't Trust the B In Apartment 23, Life & Times of Tim, anything Chris Lilly (Summer Heights High and Jonah from Tonga esp), Enlightened, Bored to Death, the College Humor Show, Hiccups, Human Giant, the Inbetweeners.

Pretty much ever television show HBO has ever done is worth watching. Even if it doesn't feel "up your ally" fuck it, watch it. Sopranos, True Blood, Game of Thrones, Deadwood, Girls... ALL top fucking quality television. I just binge watched The Leftovers and holy shit, emotionally brutal, depressing, fantastic. HBO is literally what keeps me sucking on Dish Network's tit. The SECOND HBO Go goes pay to play I'm ditching satellite. That's how great / important / fantastic HBO is.

As far as non-HBO...

Watch Arrested Development, Parks and Rec, 30 Rock and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia... four of the greatest comedies of the last couple decades.

EDIT

Also the 2004 Battlestar Galactica reboot... my favorite television show of all time.

30 Rock and Boston Legal are among my all-time faves.

I watched the first season of Orange is the New Black and didn't love it as much as everyone else I know did. I didn't love the book either. I'm told the second season is much better but I haven't felt compelled to watch it yet.

Watched Agents of SHIELD up until the mid-winter break. Watched one ep after they came back and gave up, even though I love Clark Gregg. Then I heard the end run was amazing so I may try and watch the rest of the season to see for myself.

OITNB season 1 was good, but too much focus on the main characters (who suck). Season 2 fixed that and delved into the whole prison, so it felt more like a toned down version of Oz.

For Agents of Shield, that first 15 episodes or so were shit (exemption: Ep with Lady Sif cause she's gorgeous) -- the end of the series makes the season better, and probably puts the first "shitty" 15 episodes into a new light so they aren't as shitty as the first time.
