How did you find out about DEFIANCE
I have seen the organization on the FWrestling.com website, and it came highly recommended by Pete.

Are you willing to write matches?
Absolutely

Character Information

Team Name: The Big Game Hunters
Total Combined Weight: 413 lbs.

Theme Song: The Sound of Madness by Shinedown
Ring Entrance: Typically included in match strats, as I use it as part of my storytelling.
Alignment: Heel Tactics with a Cult-like appeal

Tag Team Finisher: The Trophy Kill
Description: After completing the tag, WILDBOY Ningenku traps the opponents arm in position for a Straight Jacket Suplex. As he does this, Freddie Sagawa comes charging out of the corner with a fast and furious running knee strike (Busaiku Knee Kick). As Sagawa connects with the teeth of the opponent, Ningenku hurls them back in the Straight Jacket Suplex and holds the position for the bridge.

Tag Team MDK Finisher: The Aokigahara Avalanche
Description: WILDBOY Ningenku scissors the legs of his opponent around his body as if he were going for a wheelbarrow suplex and pulls himself up into a seated position on the top rope at which point Freddie Sagawa tags himself in and mounts the top rope in the same corner. At this point Ningenku lifts the poor unfortunate soul until they are parallel to the mat and drops for a sitout face first powerbomb. But as this is happening, Sagawa leaps from the top with a double stomp to the back of the opponent’s head.

Note: Because this is an MDK Finisher, it really should be used as a be all end all of matches, when every single other option has been exhausted. Additionally, I ask that we protect this move as much as humanly possible. If it is completed, it better be for a three count and/or injury.

Team History:
The pairing of WILDBOY Ningenku and Freddie Sagawa has been an on again / off again relationship since their rookie year in the sport of professional wrestling – when they were paired as part of Team Animalize. It was also during this time that Freddie Sagawa worked under his old gimmick of SAFARI Jones, a more comedic “safari guide” type of character.

While working together, they have competed in a few “MOTY” candidates as well as winning a number of titles both stateside and abroad. Freddie Sagawa (as a solo competitor) also took part in the UltraTitle Tournament back in 2012, faring pretty well for himself. Now after a few years away – they are returning to the US to see if they can rekindle that connection they had with fans of modern day professional wrestling.

Team Member 1: "The Kochi Cannibal" Freddie Sagawa

Character's Name: “The Kochi Cannibal” Freddie Sagawa
Hometown: Tosa in the Kochi Prefecture, Japan
Height: 5'10 Weight: 193lbs
Hair: Black & Blood Red Eyes: Pale Gray

Appearance:
While it is unknown where Freddie Sagawa hails from, it is obvious that he is of some sort of Asian descent - having very recognizable Japanese-esque features.

Standing 5'10 and weighing a hair under 200lbs, Freddie Sagawa has never been the biggest dog in the fight. He appears to be in solid shape none-the-less, with toned muscles and a somewhat prevalent six pack. Unfortunately, any would-be modeling career is ruined by the countless scars and marks that litter his body thanks to a rather eventful run in a Japanese based jisatsu company.

Facially he has a very slender and almost cartoon like face that is accentuated by well emphasized cheek bones, a pronounced brow, and a strong jaw line. His eyes are almost non-existent in their pale gray tone and at times go distant as he disappears inside the madness that is his mind. His lips are relatively unpronounced, but are framed by a well-trimmed pointed goatee that extends a good 4 to 5 inches below his chin.

Sagawa's scalp is shaven clean with the exception of a long singular ponytail that juts out of the top of his skull and extends midway down his back. While the style will switch from loose to braided to multiple braids it is generally jet black with stripes of deep red throughout. He has no piercings or tattoos - although he may don war paint from time to time.

In Ring Attire:
When plying his trade in the ring, Sagawa dresses in an old beaten up pair of safari-like khaki cargo pants. What distinguishes them the most is the fact that they do not appear to have ever been washed - having countless stains of sweat, blood, and dirt that they have amassed from past battles. One of his legs, though tattered, is always tucked into the top of his boots. The other leg of his pants is more severely damaged as it appears to have been shredded with tears that stretch up past his knee. The remnants of that leg hang loosely down to his mid-calf. Beneath the pants there is a pair of leopard print wrestling tights that can be seen tucked into his kneepads.

On his feet he wears a pair of faded black full length wrestling boots, with matching black laces. They are as abused as the cargo pants as they have holes in the toes which are loosely taped up with beaten athletic tape.

Sagawa also wears the battered athletic tape snuggly around his hands, wrists, and forearms - but as the tape moves further up his arm, he haphazardly wraps it until it reaches his mid bicep. On his left arm, Sagawa wears a white elastic sleeve.

Personality:

"I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me." - Hunter S. Thompson

It's scary how one quote can truly sum up an individual, but this quote from the famed American Journalist, Hunter S. Thompson, seems to capture Freddie Sagawa in a nutshell. If you are wondering just how in touch with his "insanity" one man can be, you need look no further than the origins of his ring name (which thankfully was not his birth name)

Freddie - Was taken from the grapplers fondness for American horror movies, and was plucked straight out of the Nightmare on Elm Street Franchise. Although he took some liberties with the spelling of the name, it seems to capture the fine line that Freddie Sagawa walks between character and caricature. Between cartoon-y and frighteningly realistic.

Sagawa - His in-ring surname was taken from famed Japanese murderer and pseudo-celebrity Issei Sagawa, who had proudly referred to himself as the “Godfather of Cannibals.”

Anyone that knows the personality of Sagawa knows that it waaay over the top, but to the point that it actually becomes a bit endearing. His antics have earned him quite the cult following in the underground wrestling scene of Japan and made him a must-see attraction during his tours with various promotions. Why?

It could be his spastic actions inside the ring that seem to mix smoothly with a cold, calculating, and at times picture-perfect textbook style of wrestling.

It could be his unrelenting will to survive and return from obscene amounts of damage, much like the many horror movie icons that he idolizes.

It could be his willingness to put his own well-being on the line by taking to the air in dazzling displays of aerial artistry that bathe arenas both near and far in a sea of flashbulbs.

It could be his theater of the bizarre way of speaking to the fans in an indistinguishable dialect that only seems to be understood by his close confidant, J.J. Cardiff.

Why does it work? Nobody knows for sure. But there is no doubt that violence and insanity has definitely worked for him.

Strengths:

Ring Psychology - One of the greatest assets that Sagawa has going for him is that he appears to be a master at ring psychology. When in battle, he always appears to be off kilter enough to seem unpredictable - but very rarely does he act without reason. He has a solid grasp of the sport of professional wrestling and its various styles that he can execute maneuvers flawlessly, while still baffling an opponent to leave them saying “Where the hell did that come from?”

Resiliency - When you complete is as many hardcore wards as Freddie Sagawa has in his short career, you learn how to battle through intense amounts of pain and agony. This resiliency, in addition to allowing him to outlast many an opponent, adds a surreal-ness to his character and many times will lead to frustrating a less than level-headed opponent.

Weaknesses:

Showboating - Freddie Sagawa is without question an extension of the man behind the personality, who is also at heart an entertainer. As a result, he can lose focus from time to time and become more determined on putting on a good show than on capitalizing on a downed adversary. While this is great for the fan paying money out of his pocket to see The King of Cannibals” it is not always the greatest thing for a win / loss record.

Devil May Care Attitude - Freddie Sagawa has traveled the world a bit and has had his share of big match experiences. He has seen barbed wire, pits of fire, fallen off of scaffolds and so on. And knowing that he has gotten up from this hurdles time and time again has made him more likely to take risks when they aren’t always appropriate or even necessary. As a result, he can end up doing more damage to himself just to pop a crowd, than he needs to.

Finishers:

Aerial Finisher:
Move Name: Love Letters to Baba Yaga
Description: Shooting Star Senton Splash
Common Setup: Rolling Samoan Drop (Smaller Opponents)
Inverted Stomp Facebreaker (Larger Opponents)

Submission Finisher:
Move Name: Sulawesi Strangle
Description: Guillotine Choke w/ Body Vice
Common Setup: None

MDK Finisher: (Only good on agile opponents)
Move Name: Pitagora Sochi
Description: Gory Special into Sitout Power bomb (Smaller Opponents)
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esmrVKOxD18
Common Setup: Boot to Gut or an unseen Low Blow

Trademark Moves:

  • DDT - Sagawa takes great pride in his ability to deliver a DDT from just about any position - and with such pinpoint accuracy that he commonly plants his opponent on the top of their skull.
  • Poison Rana - A reverse hurricanrana that Sagawa performs with lightning fast speed, snapping his opponent to the mat.
  • Rana Driver - As an opponent is starting to get up and is on his knees, Sagawa will charge in with a hurricanrana. Unfortunately, because they are not yet to their feet - Sagawa will spike them on the top of the head.
  • Corner Evading Lung Blower - Whipped into the corner, Sagawa will slingshot himself up and over his opponent as they charge from behind. As they pass beneath them though, Sagawa will plant his knees into the back, hook their jaw with both hands and drive them back into a Lungblower.
  • Double Knee Drop - This is another one of those moves that Sagawa can hit from just about anywhere - from a springboard position to a leap off the top rope. It is also not uncommon for Freddie to use upward momentum caused by his opponent to drive his knees into their upper chest, and down to the canvas.

Ring Style: As you can see, Sagawa’s ring style is very aerial and speed based. Throw in some savage cheats such as biting, choking, and back raking and you have the man known as The Kochi Cannibal.

Team Member 2: WILDBOY Ningenku

Character's Name: WILDBOY Ningenku
Real Name: Tobito Ningenku
Hometown: Shimada in the Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan
Height: 5'7 Weight: 220lbs
Hair: Black Eyes: Brown

Appearance:
WILDBOY Ningenku is a start contrast when standing next to his tag team partner, “The Kochi Cannibal” Freddie Sagawa.

While Sagawa has a physical that is all about the six packs and well defined abs that one might get from working out in the gym, WILDBOY has the build of someone that might instead be lifting rocks and logs in their back yard. He has a barrel chest, thick arms and legs, and a rock solid stomach that could break a man’s fist.

While Freddie Sagawa has the wild hair, crazy eyes and facial hair, WILDBOY has an extremely closely trimmed buzz cut, standard chocolate brown eyes, and a well-kept goatee. His face is rounded, and his looks alternate between lack of emotion and a sinister snarl when he is worked up.

His body has a few various tattoos on it, but nothing colorful or flashy – mostly line an ink work, but it is well done. The tattoos are also symmetrical in that he has matching work on both the left and the right side of his body. Both shoulder blades feature claw marks as though some type of big cat tore through his flesh. Both arms have a motif of a full tiger that wraps around them, his face twisted into a snarl. They are accentuated by some vine work that wraps down into the forearms, which frames the only differences in his two sides – the inside of one forearm says “WILD” while the other says “BOY”

In Ring Attire:
When competing in the squared circle, WILDBOY Ningenku wears a pair of spandex wrestling tights that fall to the mid-calf – similar to what The Wild Samoans would wear back in the day. They are primarily black with a patterned stripe down the left leg in some sort of animal print (zebra, tiger, cheetah, giraffe) and the word WILDBOY printed down the right leg.

He competes in bare feet, that are heavily taped to provide support to his ankles. He also wraps up his wrists in tape. The coloring of the tape is usually complimentary to whatever animal print he decides to wear to the ring on that given night.

When making his entrance to the ring, WILDBOY Ningenku wears a satin kimono style robe that he leaves open. The robe has a thick banded lapel that also is in a matching animal print to go with his tights. Finally, around his head he wears a headband that ties in the back. You guessed it, much like everything else .. it matches.

Personality:
WILDBOY Ningenku is a second generation wrestler, that was born and bred to fight. Son of the Japanese wrestling legend WILDMAN Ningenku, his son Tobito has been watching and crafting his skill in the ring since his age was in single digits. He even lied about his age, to gather a few matches under his belt before turning the legal age to become a professional grappler.

When it comes to the sport, he takes himself and the competition extremely seriously – to the point that some people find him to be a bit of a dick. However, this same attitude has garnered him quite a few fans as he is a bad ass once the bell rings. He knows the skill he has, he knows that he has what it takes to win, and no amount of antics from an opponent (or his partner) is going to deter him on his path to the top.

Strengths:

Confidence – As mentioned above, WILDBOY Ningenku knows that he is a certain pedigree of wrestler, having been trained by both his father and his circle of friends. As a result, he has seen and through the years experienced a lot. As a result, trash talking is not something that easily gets under his skin and in desperate situations he knows that he can usually find a way out of it.

Tough as Nails – In addition to time spent competing the grapping and the hardcore wrestling scene, WILDBOY Ningenku has also spent more than a few hours in MMA Dojos. As a result, the man can certainly take a beating and deal with a tremendous amount of pain. While we never say never, a submission is not something you find on his record and a knockout is unheard of.

Weaknesses:

Ego – One of WILDBOY’s biggest strengths is also a weakness, as he can sometimes take an opponent for granted especially if it is someone that he considers to be “beneath him.” While this attitude may not last for long once he realizes the circumstances he is in, there have been occasions that it was too late for him to regroup and he became frazzled.

Injuries – Because of his vast experience in the world of professional wrestling, WILDBOY Ningenku has amassed a bit of a list of injuries – whether they be from accidents in the ring or his hardcore stylings. They have a tendency to flare up from time to time and can become a tremendous obstacle in the ring.

Finishers

Primary Finisher: Daitengu Deathtrap
Description: Hoisting an opponent up onto his shoulders into a fireman’s carry position. He then begins to turn them over as if he were going for a Death Valley Driver. However, at the last moment he shifts the opponent so that their head and neck comes down across his knee.

Note: While WILDBOY Ningenku can follow this up with a pin, he also has commonly transitioned the mover in a basic crossface submission hold for the win.

MDK Finisher: Avalanche Daitengu Deathtrap
Description: Same move as mentioned above, however it is done when his opponent is caught on the top rope, and delivered from the second strand.

Trademark Moves:

  • Headbutts – And these headbutts are a lot more reckless than stylish. He will catch an opponent on the top of the head, the back of the head, in the face, and on a larger opponent he will jump up with the headbutt to catch them underneath the jaw.
  • Rolling Elbow
  • Spinning Backfist
  • Backdrop Driver and Assorted Suplexes
  • Lariats – He likes to deliver them from a short distance, so that it hits more like the thud of a punch and shoulders the opponent to the canvas.
  • Sliding Lariats

Note: A lot of these moves are delivered with substance over style, to the point that his ring technique doesn’t appear to be safe. All that being said, he has one hell of a bridge, and commonly displays then when deliveris his barrage of suplxes.

Re: Team Member 2: WILDBOY Ningenku

Are you willing to write matches?
In a pinch, I may be able to – so feel free to ask. Though, I would prefer to be excluded from the regular rotation of writers so that I can focus on my own character development.

There is no such thing as a "rotation." We're an angled fed, handlers are responsible for everything their characters are involved with, including the matches being written.

Not an issue. The question made it appear to be an option, which apperently is not the case. I have no problems match writing.

Re: Team Member 2: WILDBOY Ningenku

Just to kind of reaffirm James' post: I think it's important to view the matches as tools to further develop your stories and characters. The comment on "wanting to focus on developing my characters" caught me a little off-guard in this sense. I'm sure it was innocuous enough, but I feel like a well-written match is just as important a storytelling tool than any segment, perhaps even more-so.

I think a lot of people see them as an inconvenience, or feel like they exist merely as a framework to tell stories around. I think they're actually one of the most important mediums that we have, but I do understand the reluctance.

Anyway, that's almost moot now as you've confirmed you're willingness to write matches. Should you be accepted, I'd be more than happy to share a few ideas on writing matches and using them to sell your stories.

I'm happy to slap a yes vote down. The characters sound interesting and the sample was solid. You've clearly put a lot of work into these guys and you've gone into a lot of detail, which bodes very well.

Re: Team Member 2: WILDBOY Ningenku

I applied based on a recommendation and never gave the Google Doc about what us expected a read. I actually just did and have no issues.

This is a new way of doing a fed for me, and alot of past feds have had a rotation of writers that they went through. It helped with quality control as not everybody always had the required voice for the announcers - if that makes any sense.

I actually did a bit of writing during the UltraTitle, plus have fedhead experience. So no worries here.

That's one "yay."

I'm good with the characters, not a big man team, which is nice (we got a couplafew already).

Re: Team Member 2: WILDBOY Ningenku

From what I can see, now that the match writing thing has been clarified, I don't see why not.

A yes vote from the English team.
