Seriously, GOD DAMN. Amazing we managed to put out such a good 12 match card so quickly, especially with so much story tied together in it.

Again, just writing this stuff up as I go through the card so it jumps around a bit as I forget to put stuff down :)

- Get my little self indulgence away off the bat. First off, just from my own story front, I ended up being assigned my two matches with the basic story of Atken trying not to get involved in the matches until Alexander had enough - all the while Atken being very much terrified of everything Alexander does in the ring. I was really hyped to find out where me and Voss got to in this tournament. My gut tells me we won't get any further but to make it that deep in was a really cool thing to see. In a way, I wish I didn't write my own stuff so I could've been surprised to see it on the card but swings and roundabouts. Looking back, I do wish I'd given a little more meat to Deacon/Cruise vs. Atken/Alexander but such is life.

- Shove in my bog standard praise for the show intros here. Again, always do the job, always on point and just a pleasure to see every time I open an NFW card.

- Poor Calvin, screwed over immediately. His master plan for the whole tournament scuppered due to the endless infighting that Dynasty now suffers. I was quite surprised to see what happened with Dorchester, certainly a big development there. Interested to see where Blaine goes from here though - a Blaine solo run without Carlton or does he calm down and accept him back into his life. We don't really have a Dynasty in NFW anymore and while I suppose that is what it has been building too recently, it's a big difference for the landscape, especially in the tag division.

- A few squash matches in the first round, not too surprising considering they deal with a few of the teams who no-showed but really, after the first round, you're already in to hyper-competitive territory.

- There is something I oddly love about the Z/Impala team. Sad to see them go out in the first round but it was certainly a deserved win for Cruise/Deacon. I was really surprised when I got my booking to see we picked up the win over them in round two. Cruise really had a strong showing in the RP thread and this win was well deserved. I just hope to see more of Z and Impala, it's a team so ridiculous but it works.

- Mayfield showing himself to be a wily bastard of a President, forcing a brawl to better his own chances in his bracket. Odd in a way when you have a big ole brawl in round 1 of a tournament but makes sense given the storyline and really, all things considered Superfly/DRS is a major first round bout. Superfly deserved to progress here, since Nova and Harmen decided to go it as a team, there has been some real fun stuff out of the guys and it is a credit to them to be doing so well in this little tournament shindig.

- Great pick up with CLB/Sagawa, there's already an in-built storyline from Ultratitle and the gimmick fits NFW well. Always nice to see someone else I can job to.

- Forgot to mention Anderson/Bryant. My feeling right now is we're looking at a Superfly Express vs. Anderson/Bryant final. I think it was right for the commentary to address that the team is still in a feeling out process. I had said previously on EFG, I feel that Anderson/Bryant was one of the strongest combinations throughout the whole RP period. Would be interesting to see if you had Bryant as TV and EMT champ but that's still to come.

- Funny to see Biron up against himself in a way for OSS v. Anderson/Bryant. Poor OSS, still trying to claw there was to tag success since their return. One of these days guys. One of these days. Good dynamic of seeing how Anderson/Bryant actually deal with an experienced tag team as opposed to the make-shift arranged they faced in Round 1. Again I add - Poor Calvin. Dude just needs a tag team to embrace him and all he gets are more concussions - enjoyed that spot. Really, I think the story of this match was his desperation to have the EMT's and it was an enjoyable story. Fun match.

- The next Hollywood's on Fire should be an interesting one. I've never been the best at "getting" Legion but I think this segment done a good job building up what should be a rather interesting segment on Reloaded.

- Again, another storyline that is getting crossed thanks to the tag draws, this time with Nova and Cojones/Mayfield. It's the little touches that really helped this show build, allowing a lot of randomly drawn together matches actually have points of interest to them. Really another match with a great story. I think overall the four second round matches really built on from each other, the one I wrote was quite low profile, they OSS/Anderson&Bryant really fleshed out and adding an interesting story dynamic to it. This match then added more story and history to it, as well as being a great match. In a way this was really a hidden Nova/Eddie match but it still had great stuff going on. Don't know who was assigned this one but I loved it.

- Cute to see Rice and Wildstar in the booth by the by.

- Much like Nova/Eddie, I appreciate the background lessons in the match. I did sort of remember the history with Nova and Eddie but not so much with Wildstar/Hoshi/Stratton/Randalls.

- Almost a Reloaded preview with this match. I feel like this match was the peak of the sort of big build stories from the tournament drawings. A whole lot of history in this match and I enjoyed learning about it as the match went on. Certainly a well deserved closing spot.

Interesting bit of commentary about Hoshi: "It’s because of this – giving Stratton an ass-kissing is one thing..." which is a lovely thought.

- Loved the dismissal of Dorchester as we really get a Reloaded preview. Using each other spots is such a "big match" type move. Very sneaky tag leading to the finish. Dorchester then of course decides to go Patrick Bateman on us. I think we all know what kind of videos Rumsfeld is into then. Most of them imported from Germany no doubt.

Loved the first night of this and I'm incredibly excited for night 2, seems like I now have two big matches coming up on night two (POSSIBLY THREE! althoughidoubthat). Can't complain about that though, it's been probably my best showing in NFW in the five years I've been here.

My guess for the finals would be Superfly Express up against Anderson and Bryant. If I had to take a stab at the winners, which is really quite tough - I looked over the thread against today and my feeling is the Express edge that match. Shall be interesting to see if I'm right. Although suppose it all depends on if Troy can find himself a partner :D

Look, just because you merge into my brain as one terrifying super handler...

Edit: Just to say because I feel bad about it now you've brought it up. I didn't mean anything bad by it, it was more to do with you the Gregg both being NFW main-stays with a great range of entertaining characters that cross wires a lot. I'm sorry because I can totally see how that can be taken insultingly.

Wait, we can say goddamn on the forums now? This is a great day in FWC history...

Also...it's OK Colin, I've known JN and GG since Prodigy, and I only found out they weren't the split personality of a madman last week.

It's cool Colin! GG is the man and that's a compliment.

It's funny that you said mainstays, since Katz and I came up with NFW and I play the background REALLLLL FAR as Shadowboss, but I've been around since the beginning since the birth of NFW in story is largely rising from the ashes of my UWA. GG is the third piece of the triforce.

Thus the Avery Everette stuff somebody didn't understand, as he is/was the deceased original in-story President and owner of UWA. I think a lot of that gets covered around Ultratitle Season One and the SDS invasion.

But no one asked for any of this! :)

Justin:

This helps: Title Histories. Billy may be the (only) person who could tackle a history archive!

What kind of info were you looking for? I told Katz a while ago I wanted to add liner notes to the NFW Card archives, so that could help as well - being able to see major feuds, debuts and cataclysmic shifts as they happened.

PTCpedia was really good in that we were starting to get a rough wiki history of NFW going, until the site shutdown and the douches didn't even keep the wiki pages up. Now that stuff isn't even accesible.

At some point, I think a few of us should pen a brief history of the major angles of NFW, and try to piece it together in an easy to read narrative. I don't think it's as hard as it sounds, and for as much as I remember, Katz, GG, and JN have recollections of things that I completely forgot as well. I think between us, a proper history can be made. I will definitely volunteer to draft something at some point, and go to some of the major players of different periods for info. Some of the old handlers can really help too, i.e. if there was an angle involving Montezuma and Bloodhunt, Stanton probably has an exact memory, and McNichols could probably tell me things I forgot about Manson too.

Does none of the PTCpedia stuff survive on the web archive? Sucks that hard work could disappear like that.

I actually had all the NFW stuff (and what I wrote for my own characters) saved in a folder. That is...until I accidentally deleted everything in the folder like an idiot. Nothing like watching all your important files from the last few years vanish into the ether.

Everyone except Colin in this thread already has administrative rights to the backstage panel. If you like, I can give a walkthrough on how to maintain the above for NFW. I can also give Colin access as well.

I think I done did good already. My only question is about the Attributes. Since you don't use a simulator ... is that kind of null and void?

Thanks for the kind words on the card! Me, JK and JN are beyond excited for the next few shows.

The Troy/Dorchester vs. Randalls/Akita match announced by WildStar was something I loved writing because there's so much backstory and I also handled four of the aforementioned guys.

I'm not as well-versed in NFW history as others will be. Even though I'm sort of the #3 around here, I missed some large chunks of time for various reasons. But here's the run-down on some of my characters and their histories.

TROY WINDHAM -- He's the guy I'm best known for handling. He never had much of a run in NFW. He was involved in the "Season" format of NFW (that I sold) but mostly for me to do a lot of dumb, ridiculous stuff with. The Windham Clan angle is his biggest angle in NFW. His motivation was that the NFW never rolled out the red carpet for him. He brought with him a bunch of flunkies to help with his takeover -- JJ DeVille, Bobby Jack Windham, August De La Rossi and The Bandit.

JJ DEVILLE -- JJ started in the CSWA as a clueless henchman/suck-up to The Playboys -- Eddy Love and Troy Windham. He started to grow up and realize he was being exploited and stood up for himself and ended up beating Troy Windham in his breakout match. However, JJ's ego got the best out of him. When the CSWA went under, he looked to join other leagues but held out for absurdly high contracts. He became regarded as an untouchable headcase. He enrolled at North Carolina State University where he majored in pre-law and also worked in the school's gymnasium. He simmered for years while out of the sport. Since The Windham Clan invaded, JJ has wormed his way into power. Troy, being a superstar, decided to hand off the day-to-day affairs of The Windham Clan to JJ. JJ has used this power to try and poison the rest of the locker room and is a petty, vindictive beauracratic power broker jerkoff.

WILDSTAR -- WildStar is The Five Star Athlete. I've used him for a really long time. He was originally made by Chad and Steve in the CSWA and was Hornet's (their version of Sting and the icon of icons in the CSWA's history) first protege. He started off as a singles wrestler in NFW and hired Calvin Carlton to be his manager. He was soon jettisoned by Calvin Carlton and took time off to heal from the many injuries he suffered over the years. His best friend is Tsunami (now known as Akita Hoshi). They've teamed up together for years under a host of monickers -- The Suicide Squad, Dawn of a New Day, NC-17, The Foreign Exchange. He lost in a retirement match to Dorchester Stratton.

DORCHESTER STRATTON -- Dorchester was a guy JN created that we always used as a background/jobber guy. He was originally known as DC Stratton. His backstory is that he was a backyard wrestler who ended up in the big leagues, like a Hardy Boy type. He ended up tagging with Tsunami -- his childhood hero -- as The Suicide Kingz, with their manager as Rayne. Rayne debuted early on in the NFW's history and was Michael Manson's mistress but emotionally scarred. DC and Rayne quickly fell in love. Rayne was also revealed to be WildStar's niece. The Suicide Kingz had a lengthy battle with The Hollywood Wrecking Crew for the tag straps. Dorchester beat Blaine Hollywood in a singles match where, if he lost, the Kingz would not get another shot at the belts. But along the way, he broke his arm. Tsunami reunited with WildStar and they beat The HWC to regain the belts. DC simmered with rage and was secretly recruited by Calvin Carlton and his new secretary Veronica Abrams Rumsfeld to join their ranks. DC turned on WildStar and Tsunami and cost them the titles to the HWC. Then, the next show, he dumped Rayne publicly and nearly snapped her neck while The HWC jumped WildStar and Tsunami from behind. He renamed himself Dorchester Stratton and shed his emo-kid roots in order to become The Country Club Assassin.

Since then, Dorchester beat WildStar in a retirement match, blinded Joe The Plumber and later broke his ankle, turned on All The President's Men which helped The Windham Clan claim power and recently ran Jack Bryant over with a car.

AKITA HOSHI -- Hoshi was originally known as Tsunami. At the age of 19, Tsunami came over from Japan and brought with him a new style to America. Even though he stood at 5'10" and weighed roughly 190 pounds, 'Nami's aerial assault and brawling methods gave him the label of "The Posterboy of the Hardcore Generation". He ended up having a match with Mike Randalls in 1995 that was seen as a transformational match in pro wrestling history -- a brawl that lasted for nearly an hour and went all over the arena. That formed a bond between the two men that has never been broken, even when they had the occasional rematch. Tsunami took DC Stratton under his wing and they became known as The Suicide Kingz. When DC turned on them to become Dorchester, Tsunami suffered a major concussion from the attack -- the eighth of his career. During his injuries, a devastating earthquake destroyed Tsunami's hometown. He decided to shed his name of Tsunami and became Akita Hoshi and was brought back by Eddie Mayfield to help quell The Windham Clan with Mike Randalls. They dubbed themselves Dark Storm.

THE OSS -- In the early days of NFW, a tag team known as The Showstoppers debuted. Young, dynamic and physically attractive, the two quickly became stars and helped send The Oblivion Express -- the first tag-team Calvin Carlton managed -- back to Japan. Calvin swore revenge and brought in with him The Original ShowStoppers -- "Fabulous" Frankie Fargo and "The New American Stud" Brandon Mueller. A successful tag team in the 80s in various Southern promotions, The OSS were out of the sport as Fargo served a variety of jail sentences for crimes he claims he did not commit. They returned and feuded with The Showstoppers over rights to the name, claiming The Showstoppers were plagirists. Eventually, their relationship with Calvin started to fray. Calvin soon dumped them to manage The Hollywood Wrecking Crew of Blaine Hollywood and Malik Anderson.

Those are my "canon" guys here.

GODDAMN!

AWESOME show. Because so many of our roster members were involved in BRAWLAPALOOZA, it felt much less isolated than previous tag events where it seemed like the division existed in its own world separate from the other goings-on of the fed. I loved that storylines like Atkin/Strife and Troy/Randalls were pushed so that while all the matches were tag tournament matches, the show really felt like a Reloaded-type affair.

Kudos to the play-calling throughout. Natrone Rice & Co. add more to the BRAWL shows than the actual written action, in my opinion, and this show was an A+ example of that. WildStar coming in for the assist was great, since he's in the Pantheon of Frontier tag greats, and I'm a big fan of bringing in "retired" characters to spice things up the way WWE relies on their Legends folks at events like WrestleMania. I hope when Nova's done (if NFW is still around) that he's used in the same way.

Man, a lot happened on this show. Totally appropriate that some early matches featured solid action and storyline developments but didn't take up a lot of space, whereas the quarterfinals progressed into some Reloaded-worthy action. Thoughts on character developments:

Dorchester Stratton had a huge night, and I'm happy about that. Stratton's kind of seen in NFW as the penultimate Almost-Was, yet at the same time he's been responsible for many of the biggest moments in the fed over the last four years. This one is up there with his involvement in the WHC Tournament. Hints all throughout the show led up to a HUGE play at the end, and now SUPERFLY EXPRESS is left scratching their heads over who/what is waiting for them on Night Two. LOVE IT.

Speaking of my own team, I had a ball reading the Eddie/Cojones vs. SUPERFLY match. The history with Eddie, Cojones, and Nova is something I've tried to keep relevant since Nova's original ejection from NFW following his loss to JTP, and it was great to see these characters mix it up in the ring and also make reference to that fateful night at SUPERCRASH II. That was a huge turning point for Nova, a huge part of his return at SUPERCRASH III (though I've switched gears somewhat), and Eddie/Nova is an angle, like Randalls/Nova, that I hope to continue to develop over the long-term.

On the RP-side, this was one of the most robust outings we've seen in a while for a show, so good job to everyone, congrats to the winners, commiserations to the losers, and I'll toss out special props to Siegel, who didn't advance with Deacon but who let it all hang out in the RP thread after bringing a surplus of Funk and Noise to his ULTRATITLE match-up with Joey Melton (a thread worth a read for those who haven't followed the tournament). Keep up the good work, Tommy Boy.

Can't wait for Night Two! WHOOO~!!

GG - I love all of this exposition. We should add this stuff to the character bios as it fits perfectly!
