- When viewing the FWC forums with the max (40 I think) posts per page, all eight participants in the Quarterfinals are on the first page.

- Kendall Codine vs. Eli Flair is the only Quarterfinal match where both wrestlers (not necessarily handlers) were both fully retired before the tournament, and will likely be fully retired after the tournament.

- The average age of all participants in the Quarterfinals is 35.75 years old.

- The oldest participant is Joey Melton at 48.

- The youngest is Freddie Sagawa at 24, exactly 1/2 the age of Melton.

Age is an interesting thing in FW, at least to me. Even though Deacon started in 1998, I don't see him as having a (nearly) 15 year career. Given that CSWA shows weren't exactly like clockwork, and NFW is kinda the same, I see time as adjusted. No one could make a living doing the number of shows most of these feds put on, so I feel that time is shrunk. Even the MWC, when I ran it, only had a show every other week. Given even TNA has a weekly show, that cuts the aging down to 1/2.

Comics addressed this also, saying that even though Supes was around in comics for 50 or 60 years, he hadn't aged that much because time slowed, even if some real world events impact comic continuity (WWII, various presidents, 9/11, etc.). I see fantasy wrestling as much the same.

The only time I consider "real time" for Deacon was the fWo which did 2 shows a week, real time. That was the hardest of 2-3 years of Deacon's career (because it was also mine).

The only problem is that the leagues in question (at least NFW and CSWA) do in fact attribute a year date to their events that basically follows real life, with a small lag. Otherwise in the case of NFW, the last 10 years could probably be summed up in 2, and every one would still be in their early 20's. Castor Strife would be 21 instead of 31, etc.

And thanks Joey Melton, for driving up that average age and making us all look like geezers. :)

Yep. Comics had the same problem. But it exists in a different world, much like fw does. It would work better if you read Stephen Hawkings famous analogy of the ball being thrown on the train (Brief History of Time). We're just on the outside of the train watching the train whir by and the train's world appears different.

Did you know it is a fact that everyone in the quarter final has wrestled a match before.

Josh really should have used this analogy when we gave him sh*t for making Anarky 32 years old. Though I'm still not sure how a character only ages a year when the promotion he wrestles for ages one, two, three years. Unless Deacon exists in a separate universe from NFW and merely visits from his home dimension...but then shouldn't the fed talk about that? "Look fans, we know Deacon wrestled here in 2004, but he did not age 8 years from that time, because on his home planet in Dimension X, only two years have passed." Doesn't that make things really complicated?

People said the same thing about the comic universes... but they learned to accept it. It's just as weird to read an old comic w/ 1970's slang and the character now using the same slang 30 years later. We do know that even if Peter Parker was 15 in the 60's when he started, he'd be OVER SIXTY! They aged him some, but he doesn't look much like Uncle Ben!

And Superman and Batman? OK, Superman would be excused for being an alien, but Lois Lane would be... what? Jimmy Olsen would be...? And in each case, they've used modern references that are timely for that moment.

Leaving comics, I would imagine we could find other entertainment venues with a similar situation - James Bond (not counting the reimagining) and I'm sure others exist - just slipping my mind right now.

Personally, I've aged Deac in one of my novels so he's retired, but like to keep him current while writing in fw. To me, he's at that legend age where they can still go and carry a match, but they do it less frequently.

That is a certainty for Codine, as there is really nowhere else left to go with him. In addition, I've factored in the age, as I've aged him accordingly year by year. I've handled other characters, but never been as successful with any of them as I have with him.

Initially, planning on retiring Codine down the road is what made me implement his son into his storyline. That's why I'm testing the ropes with him over in EPW. We'll see how things go, but Codine will always be my favorite character to handle.

Like a fine wine Billy, Melton's like a fine wine.

It's interesting to find out how everyone views the inner workings of FW. From what's seen and not seen to whether or not our characters age properly.

I've always just imagined feds put on shows that aren't seen. Sure EPW of NFW may only run 16-18 times a year, but i think its fine to imagine, write, they're working much more often than that. I've only written one World Junior match between Adrian and Melton, but in my writing they've toured the world and have wrestled against each hundreds of times.

I can see Warren's point though. It's an interesting thought to view the FW world on a line with the comic industry. But for me, it'd be a bit of a joke to try and ignore Melton's 48 years old since he was created on a rainy afternoon at Chad's house in 1988.

We all know Craig Miles was deaged years ago :) Or I'm sorry, broke into the business when he was ten.

Like a lot of things in this hobby, its all subjective. For me, again back in 1988 we made a point of slipping birthdate in our profile sheets. That's hard to get away from. Would it be fun to not mention Melton's age and keep him going, sure. But I just can't do that.

I think that's one difficult aspect of following a comic book universe, as sh*t tends to get really abstruse. Probably why I never got heavy into comic books, but enjoyed cartoons and movies based on comics that cherry picked some of the stronger narratives.

All you people did with this conversation is give Billy a forum to finally use the word "abstruse" in a sentence.

Nice.

I hope you're all happy with yourselves.

Craig Miles is nearly 40 and hasn't wrestled in 2 years. Steve's on crack as usual...or still mad all my young whippersnappers beat up Hornet in 1995. Didnt Anarky debut in CSWA in 1996?

I knew you guys were more evil than China when it came to labor laws.

I don't normally give a BOO, but...

THREE out of our ELITE eight gave the minimum amount this round. Are we really going to let this tournament end on a whimper?
