National Novel Writing Month is a big annual event where writers from all over the world sit down and crank out the first draft of a 50,000 word novel in November. It averages out to be roughly 1,667 words per day (which is a lot, especially if you ever miss a day).

I've attempted it for a couple years now, and last year was my first victory (fueled largely by late nights and Jim Beam). I'm going for it again this year, with the novel as an attempt to combine wrestling and noir. WrestleNoir. Think Sin City meets The Wrestler, but with a lot less polish and in need of heavy editing.

Anyway, this is also a segue to another point: this upcoming month, I may not be able to crank out my usual fwrestling output as a result of this addition to my writing workload. I'll do my best, but apologies in advance if my stuff is less frequent/has a bit of a quality dropoff.

I completed NaNo one time, and it was fun. But I'm not sure I'll do it again - not in November!!!

I always intend to do it, get distracted days 1 through 5, go "fuck" and lose my interest.

It's tough, dudes. I'm already a bit behind - I need to hit 10,000 words by the end of today (in theory), and I'm a shade under 7K. But I'll catch up.

The most productive day I had, I think I did around 6-7k to catch up after being sick (likely due to actually trying Nano). But, the catch up day I tried a tactic that was helpful - instead of writing in a consistent style (just sitting at the keyboard and writing), I would write for about 15-30 minutes and then stop for about 15 minutes, then back at it. I cranked out a bunch!

So holy crap there's no way in hell I'm getting to 50K by the end of the month. New goal is to complete at 30,000 word novella. Even THAT may be tricky.

Roughly 16000...kind of fortunate that fwrestling is in a bit of a slow period at the moment, because if I haven't had time to write for this, I don't think I'd have time to write for much of anything!

NaNoWriMo is easier when you don't have a full time job or a bachelor party to plan or 500 other things going on.
