{Fade into Adam Benjamin exiting Maelstrom’s office inside the NWL offices. Adam looks back at the door with a huge smile. He slowly exits looking at the newly fired secretary giving her a fake hug and a pat on the back as he exits the door. }

Benjamin:

“You would think he would thank me? I mean if I did not accidentally (ADAM LOOKS INTO THE CAMERA WITH A SMILE) hit Karl with the Shining wizard he would not be champ. But no he gets all upset with me, the nerve of the champion to yell at me. I mean he even said I am a pain in his ass, he even went so far to say that at the PPV he was going to knock my smile straight off my face. Fans your champion is a mean and darn right rude individual. Yours Truly gives you his word on the queens honor, that at the PPV I will not only teach Maelstrom respect, I will take his title that I handed to him by a missed placed shining wizard, again Karl I am sorry…

(Adam looks into the camera with a grin. As Adam makes his way towards his car he notices the VIP parking spot with the title “El Jefe”, he smiles and goes into his car and pulls out a paper. Adam quickly writes something down and tapes it over the nameplate. The camera zooms in to the note.)

“Yours Darkest night will soon reveal my brightest day.”

Yours truly

(Adam takes a seat on the Maelstroms bike and begins talking)

Benjamin:

“If I take a ride back in the career so to speak one name stands out that just had good old “Yours Truly” Adam Benjamin’s number. Stephen Waltz, we meet again.”

(Adam looks down the back into the camera)

Benjamin:

“Our first meeting I do believe was little over a year ago, you at the time were the GXW TV champ, a title you owned, a title that forever will be yours mate, I could not at the time, nor can I now ever take that away from you.”

(Adam claps)

Benjamin:

“This week we meet inside the ring no title this time hangs in the balance, no this go around all that hangs is the doubt in my mind. You see beat a man once it might as well have been a fluke, but to do it twice, you can call that having someone’s number. Waltz this week its not about revenge, it’s all about finally proving to myself that my number is not owned by no man. I always wanted this match to happen again in my career, Hell I think good old Maelstrom did his homework and is trying to do some sort of mental game with me, but hey this is a match I am not afraid of, I actually am ready for it. You know Waltz a lot has happen to lead to this point, however this week the past matters not, and the present dictates the future. Prepare Waltz because this week I plain of defeating you in the middle of the ring. Because I am the New Age Technician, I am the man that is slowly bring the word wrestling back into the world, and I am at the moment the guy sitting on the big bad Maelstroms Bike looking cooler than Eric Estrada on chips. Waltz good luck this week, I respect your ability and look forward to the challenge of my career.”

(Adam gets off the bike touching and acting as if it was “hot”)

Benjamin:

“Maelstrom I gave you life, a reborn career, soon I will take it away, until that day, smile mate you are the champ!

SCENE BEGINS

(To a screen on black, we open up with moans of euphoria from a single male voice...)

(Cut to a close-up of Terry "The Idol" Anderson, his face pressed up against a padded surface, and his expression being a painted picture of extreme pleasure and relaxation, almost orgasmic, with his mouth stretched into an ear-to-ear grin and his eyes rolled back into his head. The camera slowly tracks back, revealing more of the scene. Terry lies face down on a masseuse's table, nude except for the towel drapped over his hind end. A young Asian woman is using her delicate and masterful hands to rub into the hardened back muscles of the professional wrestling legend, and by the look on his face, you can really see that he's soaking it up.)

(The camera comes back even further, and into the frame comes Stephen Waltz, walking in place on a stationary treadmill. Clad in gray gym shorts and a tanktop and with his hair tied back into a ponytail, much of the young wrestler's attention is being taken by a television which hangs from the ceiling in the corner of this room. On the screen, we see another repeat of the Maelstrom bit in "El Jefe's" office. Terry lets out another relaxed groan, which only momentarily diverts Stephen's attention from the TV, and then his focus returns to the man in charge of the federation he had only recently become a part of.)

Terry "The Idol" Anderson
Ming Wo, I've gotta tell ya, babe... you are a GODDESS!

(Terry chuckles to himself momentarily as the masseuse moves down to his lower back muscles, and he looks over to his student, busy working away on his cardiovasculary training and scoffs.)

Terry "The Idol" Anderson
You sure you don't want a massage later, kid? My cousin Larry gave us this place for the day... for absolutely FREE! We're in New York, kid! We've made it to the big time! Why don't you kick back and relax?

(Stephen offers him another brief glance and shakes his head. Terry grimaces.)

Terry "The Idol" Anderson
You've been up and down this place all day testing out the exercise equipment... I mean, it's a Fitness AND RELAXATION club, so why don't you try the latter part?

Stephen Waltz
I don't have time, Terry... didn't you watch this?

Terry "The Idol" Anderson
Huh?

(He looks up, noticing the TV.)

Terry "The Idol" Anderson
Oh, that... well, yeah, I did watch it. We watched it together last night, remember?

Stephen Waltz
Did you listen to anything he had to say?

Terry "The Idol" Anderson
He's putting you up against Adam Benjamin... big deal!

Stephen Waltz
Did you happen to watch Benjamin's promo that followed?

Terry "The Idol" Anderson
Oh hell... what does he have to say that's important?

Stephen Waltz
It's not what he says that's important, Terry... it's what's going up on his head. In two matches, I've beaten Adam Benjamin two times. Know what that means?

Terry "The Idol" Anderson
Yeah... it means you have proven yourself the better man on two occassions. And with that info, it's pretty obvious to understand that we'll turn that number into three following Combat.

Stephen Waltz
Maybe, but this match has to be approached seriously. I can't let my ego get ahead of me--I'm NEVER going to allow that to happen, even against a man who I confidently know I can beat. What it REALLY means, Terry, is that Benjamin has something to prove in this match. He's going to go to any lengths to win, because there's just no way for a guy like that to accept THREE consecutive losses to the same man.

I know Benjamin pretty well... and I gotta say, there isn't any other man in this industry who earns more of my respect. Probably one of the best opponents I've ever competed against in the ring. If I knew him as well as I think do, then I would say that he's busting his ass in his OWN gym this very minute... pumping iron, running laps, you name it. He's doing everything in his power to make himself stronger, so he will be prepared...

But not prepared to compete, Terry--he's preparing to WIN. And as much as I would admire the passion and dedication he's putting forth for this match, I'm not going to see that happen. Not as long as I have any say in it.

Hence, the reason why I've been busting my ass instead of sitting on it all the while. If I'm going to beat Benjamin, I need to be at two different levels. First, I need to be equally if not more determined to win... and second, I need to be equally if not more physically and mentally equipped to win.

Terry "The Idol" Anderson
...hm, well, I can see your point. But you aren't going to win a match against Adam Benjamin by walking a treadmill all week.

Stephen Waltz
I know...

(Waltz checks his watch and figures he's been going at it for long enough. He stops the machine and pulls up a seat near the head of the masseuse's table, where Terry can see him.)

Stephen Waltz
Tonight, we're going to dig up the old GXW videos... everything we have available on Adam Benjamin, and particularly those matches where he competed against me. Later this week, I want to meet a few local indy wrestlers at the gym for some sparring sessions... the technical-based wrestlers. I don't think anybody who isn't relatively well-known would be up to par with Benjamin's wrestling level, but it would be a good way to get me ready for his wrestling style.

There's a lot we're going to do, Terry, leading up to this match. I want the cameras to be following us at all times, so Benjamin can see that I'm just as serious about this match as he is. If he wants to win--if he really, REALLY wants to win--then he's going to have to become something that's miles beyond what he says he is now.

Benjamin makes a plan for victory... but I make a plan of attack.

Terry "The Idol" Anderson
Sounds good. Then what are you going to do now?

Stephen Waltz
...well, I suppose I'll take a breather, then hit the weight room.

Terry "The Idol" Anderson
And you're sure you don't want a massage?

Stephen Waltz
I'm sure, Terry. I don't want a massage.

Terry "The Idol" Anderson
Well, then, hop to it, kid! Dalight's burning.

(With a smile, Waltz lightly slaps his trainer on his bare shoulder, stands up, begins to walk away. As he does so, he turns over his shoulder to give the television a final look, noticing that at the end of the segment that was playing through this time, the very man on his mind steps into the office of "El Jefe".)

Stephen Waltz
You know, I just noticed something.

Terry "The Idol" Anderson
What?

Stephen Waltz
At the end of this tape, Benjamin steps into the office of Maelstrom. What business did he have in there? I thought the two of them hated each other...

Terry "The Idol" Anderson
Meh... Mael's been on a power-trip as of late... making a bunch of ridiculous demands. Probably called him in there to yell at him a whole bunch, and nothing more. People get a little crazy when they have power, ya know?

Stephen Waltz
...maybe.

(With that, the young athlete turns and exits the room, leaving Terry by himself with the masseues, now working on his shoulders.)

Terry "The Idol" Anderson
...geez, that kid's paranoid. Thank God he's gone, cause he was ruining my feng shui. Keep it comin', Ming Wo!

{Fade into Adam Benjamin sitting moments after his daily workout at his local gym, Adam is seen talking on his cell phone}

Benjamin:

“Typical egomaniac never answers his phone. Just calling to say hi champ, hope you have a nice day walking around like you are the king. Soon very soon your highs will come cashing down into lows, and your brightest moments will become a mere blackout. Talk to you later mate, Yours Truly out!”

(Adam hangs his phone up and turns to notice the camera)

Benjamin:

“You look a man through a crystal ball you see everything and anything. If I were placed in that very ball one would see a great deal of highs. However a piece of me, a hole in my armor so to speak lies in the hands of you Waltz. You see losing to you two times has indeed left a great deal of question in regards to my slowly rising legacy. Now to be honest in each of the losses I battled my heart out and simply could not get the job done. I was at the time less experienced, a bit over matched, and by far a bit too cocky. Yes it takes a man to say that he was too cocky. It takes a man to learn from his past failures and transcend them into a positive. I have taken my losses against you Waltz and I have surly moved on. I have found success since our last meeting, I have built my name up in the business of egomaniacs, and I have proven to the one who really matters, Yours Truly of course, that I can get the job done.”

(Adam looks down, the back towards the camera with a stone cold look)

Benjamin:

“But now I get to face a man such as yourself that inside the ring woke me up, told me to my face that I am not the greatest thing walking the planet. The past cannot be corrected, but the present can be defined my good man. This go around you do not have a title on your shoulders, this time around at the same time I am not trying to become a champion. No belts just pride Waltz that is what this match is all about. Our past meetings performed inside a company that closed its door, now we battle in a fed that is slowly rising.

(Adam takes a moment to think)

Benjamin:

“You know that feeling when you wake up from a deep sleep, you lay there fighting the reality of waking up, yet you know you have to face it, you have to get up. That is the feeling in the back of my mind Stephen, even as I was MCW world champ, or the EPW IC champ, you face still peaked out from the back of my mind. Like I have said two me have had my numbed, one called himself a Messiah, the other is your Waltz. This week I am more determined then ever, because too me all the gold in the world does not matter, it’s my pride that wakes me up in the morning, its my pride that propels me out of my bed with a smile. It’s all about my pride Waltz, and this week I get a chance to stamp my pride and to be honest kill the doubt that lays waist in my head.

(Adam taps his head)

Benjamin:

“Waltz I have waited for this moment for a long time, this week is going to be special. You spoke of preparation, all week I will be in this very same gym, and come bell time my mind, body, and soul will be prepared to avenge my losses to you. I respect you, hey even you Idol friend as well, but in reality I need this match, not for anyone except myself. Good luck mate for this week I am going to test your every ability inside the ring. Good luck…

Jason Grant
Remind me to ask you to never talk again.

Gary McFarland
Too laaaaaaaate!

Jason Grant
Bah. Waltz to his feet now... Benjamin goes for a superkick, but Waltz BLOCKS it and gets a dragon screw!

Gary McFarland
Heh heh! Dragon screw!

(We fade into a dimly lit room. Dim, because not far away, in a secluded corner, Stephen Waltz sits on a folding chair, leaving forward as he concentrates heavily on a 14" TV flickering in front of him. We see footage from a wrestling event... and the camera slowly tracks forward.)

Gary McFarland
Dreams seems to approve...

Jason Grant
Terry Anderson with a smile on his face as he looks over at his hero... Now Benjamin on his feet--Waltz body slams him with au-THOR-ity...

(The camera comes to a stop over Waltz's shoulder. Nearby, we can see a stack of video cassettes with varying labels - GXW Revolution, GXW Onslaught, and others with different dates. On the screen, we see past footage of the man himself... deeply involved in a match against his very upcoming opponent, Adam Benjamin. The momentum is explosive as thousands of cheering fans all vocally support the man in control of the match... and by the very vibe resonating through the entire arena--even off this small TV--you get the sensation that the match is about to come to its climax.)

Jason Grant
...up top now--IDOLIZER!!! THE BIG ELBOW OFF THE TOP CONNECTS!!!

Gary McFarland
He just SLAM-danced all over Adam Benjamin!

Jason Grant
Now Waltz brings Benjamin up--BOOM!!! INVERTED POWERBOMB!!! BENJAMIN JUST GOT DRILLED!!!

(A nod from Waltz, wearing khaki dockers and a navy polo shirt.)

Jason Grant
WALTZ COVERS... ONE!! TWO!! THREE!!! WALTZ RETAINS THE TELEVISION TITLE!!!

Gary McFarland
Time for a victory dance! WOO!

(The fans come to their feet cheering wildly as the bell rings. The referee raises the arm of the champion and hands him the GXW Television Title. Waltz stands proudly in the center of the ring, the spectacle of the moment.)

(Stephen only lets this scene linger for a moment longer as the announcer calls his name, and then he stops the video. The monitor immediately goes to painfully bright blue screen one would see on his or her own home VCR. He turns to the camera for a moment.)

Stephen Waltz
Seems like that night was only yesterday... only my bruises from that match have long since healed, and those fans have all moved on to other federations. Global Wrestling Evolution may be dead... but I'm still alive, and moving on. I'm paving the way to better things.

(He ejects the tape from the nearby VCR, showing the label for a moment - "GXW Global Warfare 2003".)

Stephen Waltz
I bet there isn't a day that goes by when you don't think of that match, Adam. I think every time you're there in the gym, and every time you step into the ring, I'm there in the back of your head... standing as a faint reminder that you aren't the best in this business, and you've still got a ways to go before you ever get there.

I've watched this video every night since I discovered that you would be my opponent at Combat... along with other videos from other federations, such as GXW and Empire Pro. And every night, I learn something new. I see an obvious mistake I've made... I see the ways you leave yourself open, and spot your weaknesses... I memorize every single detail involved in a man of your European-technical style pitted against the traditional American powerhousing of my own. I have a fairly accurate idea of how this match will turn out, and I'd be lying if I said it didn't come close...

I knew this would come... Benjamin/Waltz III. But not for the Television Title, and not in GWE. And I knew that compared to our previous two meetings, this would be the most challenging encounter, on both our parts. You have two losses riding against you... and those can't be easy to deal with, but you'd be a fool to think you'd be at the level you are now had you won either of those matches. The defeat caused you to push yourself more... and now, you're prepped to make up for you mistakes, and overcome in what may be our ultimate showdown...

But Adam... I'm not ready to lose. Not to you, and not now.

(Waltz comes out of his seat and cross the room. Motion sensors cue the lights, which slowly fade in, illumination more of his New York penthouse. He goes to the bar, which looks empty, the most part, as Stephen doesn't drink. Nevertheless, he goes behind the bar and puts a glass on the counter, pouring himself a drink from a 2-liter bottle of Cherry Coke.)

Stephen Waltz
Ya see, Adam... every time you go on camera, you talk about your undying determination... about how you don't want me to have your "number" any longer. But what makes you think I don't know that? There's a man out there who currently has THREE wins against me, and there isn't a day that goes by when I'm not thinking about having one more match... just another chance to prove myself. I know exactly how you feel, Adam...

But it isn't enough, nor will it ever be. I get the feeling that as determined as you say you are, you aren't fully focused on this match...

I mean, what is there to gain from winning? No titles are on the line, as you've pointed out... whether you win or lose, you'll still be the man fighting Maelstrom at WrestleFest... what could you POSSIBLY gain from winning this match? Pride? Like I said, it's not enough. Pride will only get you so far in this industry...

The better question is, what have you to LOSE from this match? For you, Adam... the answer is nothing. The people already know from those previous matches that I'm the better man. There have been others in this sport who have beaten you. Another loss would be NOTHING against your reputation, as you're already one of the most established men presently competing in the NWL. Most established... and you've only wrestled one match!

The case is different when it comes to yours truly, though...

(He flashes a grin.)

Stephen Waltz
Heh... I'm talking about myself of course.

Here I am in a new federation... my reputation from GWE is kaput, now that the federation is closed, and the title I once held now means nothing. I'm back to square one, and the only thing I have riding beneath me are a couple of squash victories against Nick Savage and Aodhan Lorigan.

Losing at this point... to a man who much of the world knows I can BEAT... would just be devastating for my status as a professional wrestler. Losing this match would set me back quite a ways from where I'm trying to get to.

...you want to talk about being determined to win? I see your point, Adam, but I don't think you see mine. You want to win... but for me, if I have any hope of being something legendary, something that at least STANDS OUT from the rest of the every day generic professional wrestler... I NEED to win.

(He takes a quick sip of his Cherry Coke, smacks his lips at the taste, and continues.)

Stephen Waltz
You know the bit, Adam... mentally, physically, and emotionally, I'm at the max. I'm totally ready for this match, in spite of my qualms about your feud with Maelstrom possibly getting involved with our own battle. The point is, Adam... I'm on a roll here, in NWL. It's not much of a start, but it's a GOOD start, nonetheless. I can't let my momentum be stopped now... not while my opponent has a garunteed spot on what promises to be one of the highest billed matches on the upcoming Pay Per View...

Adam Benjamin... versus the World Champion, "El Jefe", Maelstrom. Think, Adam... where do you see Stephen Waltz at WrestleFest if I win this match? Where do you see me if I lose?

(Silent for a moment, as though to give his viewer time to think.)

Stephen Waltz
I've worked very hard to be what I am today... and to lose this match would be the total rebuttal to all that I've done. Our previous matches, that I've won... my reign as GXW's Television Champion... hell, EVERYTHING I've done in GXW... everything would mean NOTHING if I were to suddenly allow myself to be beaten!

But none of that is going to happen. Not while there's a breathing bone in my body, Adam. Come Combat, expect everything you didn't expect, and expect even more than that. Train hard and stay focused. And may the best man when...

(A small toast with his drink.)

Stephen Waltz
Cheers, mate.

(Downs the rest of his Cherry Coke, and we fade to black.)
