New horizons

Karl: A new beginning. Another chance to surpass myself. That’s what I’m here in NWL for. Not for titles, not for money, but for the honour of facing some of the best, the opportunity to surpass myself.
For those who don’t know me, I’m Karl Brown, aka “The Dragon.” I use that moniker because of the honour it holds in one of the schools in Japan I trained. I have so far had a short but largely successful career, competing in MCW until it’s closure, and currently compete in Empire Pro, where this week I go head to head with Christian Sands and Jonathan Marx in the first round of their championship tournament. And here in the NWL, I go one on one with Hacker, a man I know very little about. So how do I prepare?
By working on the assumption he’s bigger, stronger, quicker, and in every way better than me, the same I do for every opponent.
You see, for me, it’s not enough to think an opponent’s going to be my equal; to beat them, I have to train as if they’re a hundred times better than me. I have to surpass myself each and every time I set foot in that ring. It’s what makes me who I am; it’s what drives me.
Hacker, I won’t start saying how you have no chance of beating me, because you do. All it takes is one slip, one momentary loss of thought, one wrong move, and you find yourself looking up at the lights, your shoulders pinned for the one, two, three. One mistake, one lapse of judgment. It can be quite humbling to think of it that way.
So, what do I have planned for the NWL? Well, I intend to continue to surpass myself, each and every match. If I win a title, that’s good. If I don’t win any titles, then it’s not the end of the world, so long as I keep striving to be better than the best.
Hacker, I look forward to facing you. Best of luck, mate.
