The Sergeant
"Closing Statements"
(The scene opens to a small gym at yet another undisclosed location... A wrestling ring is positioned in the middle of the gym, but the crowd is gathered off in one of the corners away from it... The camera moves through the crowd of about fifty individuals until it reaches what has drawn this small crowd: The Sergeant, decked out in full ring attire... No shirt, desert combat pants and boots... He is in the middle of speaking...)
The Sergeant: ... and that's what I've been saying since day one. I needed to do something else with my life. Wrestling seemed like the thing to do. Now I'm hooked. I've been training with some very qualified people over the past month and I already have extensive experience in fighting. I just need to bring that focus that I've always been known for and I feel like I have a very promising career in professional wrestling.
Reporter 1: Since joining Empire Pro Wrestling last month, you seem to have focused on another wrestler with a promising future. Tariq Ismail. Care to comment?
TS: You know I'd love to sit and chat with you about that whole issue, but the management here at EPW has put another challenge in front of me that I need to keep my focus on. "Phenomenal" Frankie Scott. I'm sure you've heard of our upcoming match...
(Nods from the crowd...)
TS: Well, I know that it's just a house show and that doesn't draw the big media coverage that these larger televised shows bring. But, I think everyone will be missing out with this match. You have two of the most determined newcomers in the business today going at it at a house show and we're both treating it like it's a match for the EPW World Heavyweight Title. That's the future of this organization. I know we've both exchanged some rough words between each other... but think about it. We're both new here. Both dying to make a name for ourselves. Both competitive as all hell. You'll be witnessing the start of a brand new future. It's all because the powers to be in this organization gave us a chance.
(Camera flashes pop as a few of the reporters in te crowd write notes...)
Reporter 2: It seems that the two of you don't really have respect for each other. Is this the case?
TS: Not at all. Like I just said, we'll talk alot but in the end neither one of us is stupid. This is a house show. Either way it goes our paths will cross again. More than likely our next match would be even more important. We've got bright futures. Our disagreements stem from the fact that we come from very different backgrounds. It's hard for someone who has returned home from war to think a wrestling match could ever be as important and intense. On the other hand, a hardened veteran of the squared circle finds it difficult to understand that anything else in the world could be as personally competitive as one-on-one competition in the ring. So, we have our disagreements. Wouldn't be the first time for Frankie Scott. Wouldn't be the first time for The Sergeant.
(More writing... More camera flashes... Another reporter pipes up with a question...)
Reporter 3: So then, if you were a fan of Pro Wrestling sitting at home, who would you pick. You or "Phenomenal"?
TS: (laughing...) Now that's a trick question! Unfortunately, this is the last question that I'm going to take as I really need to work in the ring a little.
(pauses...)
TS: This will surprise you, but if I was the thinking man's wrestling fan, I would choose "Phenomenal" without a hint of hesitation. The guy is a ring veteran, and a successful one at that. He's not old. He's still in his prime. He's focused. If I were a fan looking at me, I'd think that the Ol' Sarge was a long shot. I've not been seen in ring action. I come from a completely different world where team play is smiled upon and essential for survival. Here in the world of professional wrestling that isn't always the case. In fact, it can be seen as more of a liability than a credit. But, thank God I'm not a thinking man's wrestling fan. All of my money is on The Sergeant. He's:
Combat Tested
Mother Approved
And I hear he makes a mean batch of chocolate chip cookies!
(He signals that the interview is over, moves toward the ring, and the scene fades to black...)
