I didn't know where to post this, so I figured this FW sub-forum would be the best bet.

For those of you not-in-the-know, I am embarking on a multi-year, multi-state, multi-national journey starting on Wednesday, June 4. Well, maybe that's a little bit vague, so let me fill you all in on what I'm doing.

About a year ago I purchased a Mini-DVD camcorder from Sony, and started recording various things. One of these things became "Dove's Dime" for TEAM events that Kin Hiroshi participated in. Other things have included wedding testimonials for friends (that I edit and give as a wedding gift instead of crystal stemware that will only be used once or twice), weight loss vlogs on YouTube, random thoughts and friendly conversations with friends in other parts of the world. All the while, video has been my medium of choice.

It's been like that since I was a child. Film has always excited me. Even the new Indiana Jones movie holds something special for me. One of my closest childhood friends, Cory, knows how much I am into films, and a glance at my 500+ DVD, Blue-Ray, HD-DVD and VHS collection would prove to anyone I like every thing from "Akira" to "Zorro". Cory, the truest of friends, also knows how much I have hated having to live back in my home town and not experience the world for the past three years.

After graduating with a B.A. in Business Administration and Management Information Systems with a minor study in Mathematics, I moved back into my parents' basement at 24-years old, and proceeded to be unemployed for a year. Not by my choosing either, but life wanted me to do something that I wasn't ready to do. I then lived with a cancer patient, and helped care for him for a month before getting hired and fired from a school district. I finally found a job working for my dad (his desk is less than 10 feet from mine) in the accounting department of a paper mill in Hoquiam, WA.

I've been here two years, and it's been the most unhappy time of my life. Hate is a strong word, so I will say that I understand why a young Kurt Cobain dropped out of my high school alma mater to leave this cesspool. I guess that Grays Harbor County can hold the title of being the first place to invent flavored meth. Strawberry, if memory serves me.

Anyways, this past February, fresh off another broken relationship and with my 27th birthday fast approaching I decided to do something drastic. I knew that Cory and his wife had given me an open invitation to stay with them when they purchased a house in Las Vegas, so I gave my old buddy a call. We chatted for a bit, and then I brought up "business." We decided that when he, and his wife, bought a house I would be able to live with them and look to find work in Las Vegas.

Today, as I type this, is my last day of work at the paper mill. I quit my job, am selling everything that won't fit in my car (keeping those movies and video games though), and embarking on a three-day road trip to Las Vegas. All the while, I will be filming with my camcorder and making frequent stops to visit with locals in cities like Portland, Eugene, Reno and Las Vegas. I'm kind of stealing the idea from Roadtrip Nation, but I'm tired of chasing after what I SHOULD be doing and am finally starting to chase after what I WANT to do.

As of this Friday I will be a resident of Las Vegas, NV. I don't know if I'll have the internet, or how long I will be there. I do know that this time next year I've signed a contract to go to the island of Crete, in the Mediterranean Sea, and teach english for 6-months with an option to extend my stay to a year (or possibly indefinitely). I still plan on doing the e-wrestling thing, so don't worry.

In short, I'm living in my car again. This time it's by choice, and NOT circumstance. If you don't hear from me again, Siegel and Lindz have my phone number and I might give them periodic updates from the road.

In case you're wondering, I drive a 2004 Jetta. It's a small car and has enough room for my clothes, my toiletries, my important documents, my movies, my video games and consoles, a flat panel TV, workout equipment and a few kitchen supplies. I have no furniture, at all, and don't even have any money budgeted at this time to buy furniture. I'm living by the seat of my pants, and plan on selling my car and buying a motorcycle once I get to Las Vegas.

When it's time to move on, I'll know and only the necessities will come with me as I ride out of Sin City.

Live for what you want, people. People are happier when they go after what they want instead of what they should have.

Experience life!

Cheers,

Mike Dove

That's awesome, Mike.

Little does anyone know that when I first moved to Cali, I lived out of my car for 4 months by choice as well. Granted it was summertime, I still cannot describe the experiences I had by choosing to become a nomad for a little bit....I just know that they were awesome at times, scary at others...but something that helped me grow immensely.

Keep in touch bro...and try and give us a shout-out when you get out the Crazy Horse.

Mikey,

You truly are one of the few people that I HAVEN'T met that really do impress me.

Good luck and I'll try to give you a ring every now and again just by sheer interest of knowing that you're doing well.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone! I appreciate it, and will definitely make sure to keep you updated on how the move goes, and where I ultimately end up.

Assuming I don't J-O-B to the Grim Reaper.

P.S. I heard you can get by him with a well placed Melvin.

Good luck man. Seriously, good luck.

And when/if you do come back here remember where your unfinished business rests. :)

You damned right, Roach Coach. You're a smart man. ;)

You see that, Russo? You almost got yourself stabbed. You're lucky we go way back, man. SO lucky!

Now that I've got those jerks outta the way. Dove, I recently relocated after living my whole life in the MD/DC/VA area, and I will say that it's the most refreshing thing I could've done. Work is still hard - that'll never change, I suppose - but there's something about being where you want to be, that makes it easier. I come home every single day with a smile on my face. My wife and kids enjoy it out here, and we've all agreed(well, not the kids, they're babies) that everyday feels like a vacation.

With that being said, if I could change anything about my life, I would've traveled more when I was single, and able to do so without affecting the lives of others. That's the only thing I would've changed. Luckily, my wife is cool with the thought of us living a couple of places for the next few years, before the children get into school, and I will be transferring to my company's California property in March of next year.

I say all that to say, kudos to you for being brave enough to take this journey on. Good luck to you, and I hope that you find a place where you're comfortable, happy, and successful. And, please, please, plllleeeeeeaaaasssse keep us updated, especially me because these stories continue to inspire me to follow my dreams.

Be safe, buddy. :)

I lived in Cali for six years around the Bay Area. Wasn't too bad, but way too expensive.

If I go back, I'm going to San Diego for sure.

Welp,

I made it to Vegas in a two-day drive (eight hours the first day, 13 hours the second day). So much for an 18 hour trip, according to MapQuest (the bastards).

Anywho, I'm slowly getting set up after a week of living in Vegas, and will be FINALLY buying a bed this weekend. I, obviously, have internet access and am loving the area.

If you swing through Sin City, let me know! I'd love to grab a beer and chit-chat (I know Siegel is talking about making a weekend trip from the mighty city of Modesto; I don't know why...I don't really like him :D )

So, I'm up and running. Ready to cause hell, and interviewing for Adult Entertainment jobs.

Lindz, do you have a connection?

The rest of us here in Cali apparently see what you mean, Scotty...

I don't! California is the shizzznit. The pot out here is re-DONK-ulous. I'm sure it's causing me brain damage and that's why I've never once noticed in my 26 years that LA turned me in a cynical lazy shallow prick...but **** that man. 420 4 LIFE SMOKE WEED EVERYDAY!

Vegas Update:

Been here 5 weeks now, and I finally got a job! Of course, I don't have enough money to even make my car payment next month. So until that first paycheck comes in, I'm going to scrapping by.

The job, in case your wondering, is working security for a brand new nightclub that's opening on the strip. More or less, I'm a bouncer. The pay is alright, but I'm sure it will grow. The new club is owned by the company that owns the nightclub/restaurant that had the highest gross income of any restaurant in the United States last year. If they continue that trend in the club I'm working in, I can expect to move fast!

Oh, and I might be on Who Wants to be a Millionaire. I find out within a week.

Toodles!
