[Fade in:
We find Sebastian Dodd sitting resting, after having watched the Super Bowl. He looks on having seen the Eagles fall in defeat (OOC: DAMN YOU EAGLES! WHY MUST MY TOWN BE FILLED WITH SORROW!?!?!
)...seemingly having enjoyed watching the game. He is dressed in his usual non-wrestling attire of sneakers, jeans, and a t-shirt bearing a catchy slogan, in this case "I think...therefore I am not 99% of the planet." He looks to his side at the Intercontintental Championship sitting beside him, and begins.]
Dodd
"You know, I really am very much against drawing parallels between
professional football, and our sport here, the true sport of kings...but
given the circumstances, I'd dare say that it is appropos...
We go into the big event, Russian Roulette...Champion vs. Challenger.
Two of the most technically efficient and proficient men ever to enter
the ring...
Similar to the teams that played last night. And much like that game,
The Super Bowl...Sebastian Dodd expects the champion to triumph. The
challenger will always...ALWAYS be forced into mistakes. It's common
knowledge, the mat game revolves around the challenger having to do more
than the Champion. The Champion is at a distinct advantage. So even
if John Marx is as good a WRESTLER as I am.
He goes into this contest at a SIGNIFICANT disadvantage. There's an
old saying that says the challenger has to beat the champion...and it's
very, very true. I do not have to beat John Marx.
He has to beat me.
And while I have no doubt that you will see alot of the two of us
sharing a mutual admiration for one another and what we bring to the table
technically...make no mistake about it, Sebastian Dodd will walk out of
this match triumphant."
[Dodd tosses the IC Title over his shoulder, looks at it, and taps it a couple of times...]
Dodd
"This match...for THIS title...is a long, long time in the making. This match really was
made months ago when I won an over the top rope battle royal...but
somehow it's taken until now for it to finally happen. Somewhere in
between the Intercontinental Championship made a detour into retardville with
JA, but has since been found, rescued, and returned to it's proper
placement as the title of a true WRESTLER.
And that's why it's a distinct pleasure to have the opportunity to make
my first title defense against John Marx.
And I say first, because that's what it is...the first. Not the only,
not the last...it's a start of the road...I will elevate this
Championship to heights it's never known, and in order to do that, I have to
beat the last REAL Intercontinental Champion...
ONE ON ONE.
Live at Russian Roulette.
Now I'm sure that there are many people out there thinking that my
having this title is a fluke, hell, the IC Championship match is the only
match I can remember winning in the last...well...the recent past.
It would be very easy for me to attribute that to a lack of importance
in matches...or a lack of credible partners, as I have. But in
reality, I think it's something more. I've been craving the chance to face
John Marx. I think that I've been waiting for this match. My career was
sidetracked the moment the stain on the IC Title legacy won the belt
with my errant chairshot. And only now has it truly come full circle,
have the stars aligned, and put the match that was supposed to happen all
along together. And I have every intention now, as I did then, of
beating Johnathan Marx. Make no mistake about it, I think he's a talented
wrestler, and clever enough to have coined the "Almighty Dodd" that so
many after him have pilfered in reference to the EPW Messiah. In
actuality, he was ahead of his time. He knew, even before I did, that I was
the savior, the Messiah, the Almighty god...errr...Dodd himself of this
federation, and as a result, I give credit where it's due, the man
jumpstarted the revolution...and now he finds himself face to face with the best that this, or any wrestling company has ever seen.
And do you know what's odd John...
If one of us should be salivating for this match, it SHOULD be you. It should be somewhere in your head that this is a chance to right a perceived wrong, you know, seeing as it was Seb Dodd's chair swing that took this title from you in the first place. I'm sure you understand by now that it WAS an errant, inadvertant shot.
But regardless, Sebastian Dodd certainly could be seen as the reason that you're not IC Champ anymore. And now you've got your chance to get some measure of revenge...
By taking the title back, by beating the best in all of EPW.
But surprisingly...I think that I want this match as much...if not MORE than you do. Because it was my destiny, it was my RIGHT to beat Johnathan Marx for this title. It wasn't supposed to be JA that I beat for this title.
It was supposed to be YOU.
I was supposed to be able to prove that I was the best technical wrestler by beating the best.
And instead I was robbed of that opportunity...not because *I* hit you with a chair...but because the opportunity was given to a man who didn't even deserve it, and WELL before it was given to me.
But now John...
Now it all changes.
Now the two best WRESTLERS in all of EPW will tie up and battle for the IC Title.
Good luck...you're going to need it."
[Fade.]
