Rumored Return to TV?
The once-vaunted giant in the sport, the CSWA almost disappeared from public view earlier this year with the loss of their television deal with U-62. Rumors are surfacing that the nineteen-year old company may have a final deal in the works to return to television.
The CSWA's distribution deal with U-62 came to an end following the CSWA ANNIVERSARY: Coming of Age event last year which celebrated the league's eighteenth anniversary and featured the five-ring GOLD RUSH spectacle. Normally a pay-per-view, U-62 accepted the ANNIVERSARY event as payment for several missed deadlines for original content. Word within the CSWA at the time blamed the missed deadlines on the events held on the PRIMETIME POOLJAM tour held aboard a cruise liner -- instead of taping five shows for air, significant edits only allowed for two new shows.
The CSWA ran into considerable financial pressure following the Tour. In addition to the pressure from U-62, the CSWA was financially responsible for the apparent hijacking of the cruise liner itself, resulting in lawsuits and red ink. While the ANNIVERSARY event was a ratings success, much of the revenue went to pay back U-62 and sponsors. The CSWA scaled back its house shows, opting to tape more content at fewer dates.
Shortly after, U-62 cancelled its contract with the CSWA, leaving the behemoth without a television deal. Rumor has it that the CSWA has continued to tape house shows and has content ready for distribution, if it can find a television source willing to take a gamble.
