Stern Shamrock, former play by play announcer for the Mid-South Wrestling Association and various CAL events, who is the current director of talent relations and the public face of burning river wrestling; the new promotion based out of Cleveland, OH was recently interviewed on the Wrestling World Weekly pod cast and talked about a number of topics.
Here are snippets from the recent interview,
When asked about burning river’s ownership situation, this is what he had to say:
“It’s not me. I am the play-by-play announcer and I am the director of talent relations, and the marketing guy, but I am not the owner. The ownership group of burning river has a vast history of experience in all facest of the sport, but for this venture they have decided to remain behind the scenes and keep the spot light on the competitors.”
On the prospects of burning river becoming part of an umbrella federation such as the WfWA or the NeWA:
“Short answer, no. Long answer, still no.”
When pressed further on the issue, he conceded:
“I will never say never, never. But the odds are very unlikely that burning river would seek to join a larger sanctioning body. That is not to say that we may not seek out close working relationships with such an organization, be it the NeWA or WfWA, the big player on the scene. But burning river at this point would rather keep its independence, to allow itself to do things that would otherwise be harder to do in the confines of a sanctioning body.”
On the rumors that burning river was attempting to sweep in and snatch up talent from WCWA, following the recent ownership shake-up of that promotion.:
“No, we have made no overtures of any kind to anybody affiliated with the WCWA. If any WCWA competitor would like to come to burning river and step into the Asylum, that would be great. If they are a great fit we would welcome them, we have a non-exclusive contract policy anyways. But we have not, nor will we try to steal any talent from the WCWA or any other promotion for that matter. We wish the new ownership group of Whiskey River nothing but the best.
On reports that burning river would seek legal action against Hudson River Wrestling for announcing an upcoming tour that would see it swing by Cleveland.:
“Well even though the Hudson River is a long way from the Cuyahoga, we welcome them to come down. The Gray’s Armory is a venue that has hosted independent shows with the burning river banner, most recently this past July with a card headlined by Summer Games finalist Joe Drago, but we do not have exclusivity with that venue. Circle of Pride, of the NeWA also makes its headquarters in Cleveland, so there is a lot of room for some great wrestling action. We are not concerned, we believe that the fans of Cleveland and the Great Lakes area in general know where the best action is and that’s burning river wrestling.”
On any possible concerns of problems stemming from the signing of controversial wrestler Jeff Andrews:
“While it’s true that Jeff Andrews has a history of being somewhat of a ‘loose cannon,’ its also true that the man is one enormously talented competitor, who puts asses in the seats. We don’t have any concerns or worry’s at all. After all, burning river contracts are open-ended and you know what they say, ‘controversy creates cash.’”
