Best of the Best Preview
Best of the Best... a phrase that gets thrown around quite a bit in the sport of pro wrestling. Who really is the best? Hulk Hogan defined it as being the highest paid wrestler who traveled the fewest miles. That maybe true from a purely business standpoint, but how about the skill of it all? Hogan wouldn't know shit about that.
REBEL's "Best of the Best" event is the climax of a months worth of tag team wrestling, formatted in an eight team, single elimination tournament. Last year, eight teams entered the tournament. Of those men competing, several went on to win championships or high accolades in either REBEL or NAPW in the following 12 months.
KRENSHOV- NAPW World Champion Warren- REBEL World Tag Team Champion Celtic Assassins- Winners of the Extreme Alumni Battle Royal Chad Kurtis- Two REBEL World titles, and a REBEL Carolinas championship C.A.B.S- The first to win and hold belts in both promotions at the same time, holding both federations tag team titles Mike Trey- The winner of the tournament along with Dr. Tittylover is now a FOUR time REBEL World champion.
This years group consisted of Former NAPW Tag champions, former REBEL Tag champions, former NAPW and REBEL World champions, current NAPW tag Champions and the current REBEL World Tag Champs... and NONE OF THE MENTIONED ABOVE HAVE MADE IT TO THE FINALS!
The main event of the "Best of the Best" event will feature two teams with less mainstream press than any team in the tournament. The team of Hardcore Entertainment, (The Ragin Redneck & Vincent Black) originally forced to team together in the first place... versus a team who has wrestled together for years, but had little experience in this part of the country, The Great Alaskan Ninjas!
HARDCORE ENTERTAINMENT VS THE GREAT ALASKAN NINJAS!
This match is sure to be just as violent if not more violent than the Weapons match that takes place on the card as well. The tag team division is white hot right now, and these two teams are one win of way from a World Tag title shot. This maybe the finals of the tournament, but in reality, this is the equivalent to a Conference Championship game. The Super Bowl is the following week.
But these lesser known teams, are hardcore as can be, represent the very essence of what REBEL was built on... extreme characters, with hardcore attitudes, who don't mind bleeding or breaking bones to get the win. Just as the finals last year, no one would have guessed these two teams would make it this far... but you damn well better believe after this week, no one will ever second guess either team again. Expect a balls out, leave it all in the ring fight this Tuesday.
PAUL JARVIS DEFENDS THE WORLD TITLE VERSUS NICK EVERHARDT
Jarvis hand picked Everhardt. Everhardt knew before he entered the Extreme Battle Royal at "Prove Your Worth" that he didn't NEED to win it. But he went out, gave the fans 110 percent, and stole another show and this time a Number One Contenders Trophy. Two weeks after wrestling in what everyone has agreed is a Match of the Year Candidate, he went out and proved why REBEL fans love this man. Several title opportunities have come his way in six short months, and if you knock on the door long enough eventually you get let in, or you break the door down.
Paul Jarvis in the mean time has been fighting off protesters, out filming a movie, and has turned back the challenges of Jake Phoenix and Johnny the Mormon Love Machine. Paul is the most hated man in REBEL since the beginning days when the Crimes ran roughshod over the whole promotion. Jarvis is inciting riots, but despite it all, he is drawing crowds. The box office sells out and he is part of the huge success REBEL is seeing, even during an ownership change.
The two men are incredible athletes, as different as night and day personality wise, but deep down they respect one another. That respect will end as the bell sounds. This match has the makings of a classic, and regardless of who wins, you're almost guaranteed to see a round two at some point.
BROTHER VERSUS BROTHER... A TALE OF TWO KURTIS'
Chad... the cool, confident, fast, all American type.
Matthew... the snarly, big, mean, bully type.
Brothers.
What Matt lacks in speed, his brother was graced with. What Chad lacks in power, Matt has tenfold. What Matt lacks in singles success... Chad has been there, done that. Former tag champs who drifted a part, fighting in different circles. Then one day, Chad gets nailed by his brother. Jealousy? Or maybe Matt was tired of hearing about his brother. Maybe it was time that Matt got to headline shows. Who knows why it happened, but after a month and different things occuring, they fight for gold. They are polar opposites but they have one thing in common... a Kurtis Temper. You should see both men display those tempers with the Carolinas up for grabs this week.
But those two Kentuckians aren't the only ones going to be interested in who wins. Another Kentuckian will be on hand to watch the match. Cuzin Zeke has a title match the following week, and also has a beef with Matt Kurtis.
We shall finally see which Kurtis brother is truly.. BEST! And the following week we'll see which Kentuckian is.
A WEAPONED FILLED WAR!
Sick Billy Kryenik and "The Show" Chad Kurtis will take on The Foundation... former REBEL World tag champs. This match will take place AFTER Chad wages war with his on flesh and blood. That is the wild card in this match. The very first teaming between Billy and Chad will also be a big variable. How will they work as a unit? How will the chemistry be?
Their opponents are coming off a huge loss in the Best of the Best tag tournament. The Foundation, still trying to get back to the team who defended the REBEL tag titles for two months with a record successful four title defenses. They helped carve out the first era of REBEL as part of the notorious Crimes, but neither man has touched gold since then. The winner moves up the ranks of the very stacked tag team division.. the loser moves down, and thats a place neither team aspires to be.
MISFIT TOYS TWO?
Back last year, at the final Supershow of 2007, El Rey Corazones tagged with Stein and the Mystic Exposition to form one of the wackiest teams ever.
Well, since then I don't believe four more colorful personalities have been in the same ring. The Young Leons take on El Rey Corazones and JAGI! The countries of North Korea, Ireland and Mexico are all well represented in this match. So is four different styles. JAGI brings a MMA style to the ring, and his partner wrestles a big man Lucha style that has helped him become a two time REBEL World Tag champ. Flippy McHighspot is anything but a highspot machine, a very technical wrestler who will hit guys with suplexes and submissions. His partner is reckless and loves to go up top.
The contrast of these men will makes this match definitely a must see event. This is a match for the fans that will possibly steal the already stacked show.
A RETURN OF A KING... STON
Mark Kingston is known to REBEL Fans as the man who fell off a scaffold and damn near died. He is a former Carolinas champion and competed in the Feud of the Year last year with Dio Muerte. He is finally one hundred percent, and has to work his way back up to where he was last year. He also earned himself a lot of enemies with his heinous actions last week.
In his way is a muscular man who is just getting his REBEL career started. Wrestling in both REBEL and NAPW can be taxing, but the 'Prototype' hasn't slowed down yet. He is improving every week, and is looking for his first win in REBEL.
Will the returning former champ be victorious, or will Josh Markham get his first "W" in REBEL?
All of these matches are this Tuesday at the REBEL Arena. The World Tag Champions and Cuzin Zeke are all expected to be in the building as well. Undoubtedly Rex Caliber will also be on hand, trying to insure that everything runs smooth.
See ya at the matches.
