Match of the Night
Anarky vs. Heir of Wrestling. Very solid commentary throughout, good action and psychology, and a fantastic finish. I also like that the "Mick Foley gets thrown off the cage" spot has only been used this one time, as opposed to every match. It retains it's effect when used only once.
I wrote the main event, so I'll avoid sucking my own dick as much as possible. However, I will say that I'm proud of it and the finish (which was Brunk's idea) was very innovative. Justin, I hope my commentary did Stalker justice.
Face of the Night
I would say The First is "wrestler of the night" but as for who got the most face heat and/or sympathy, probably Anarky. He's been heel for so long, and his run through this tournament has had a physical story to it that would definitely win the fans over. In the main event, I wanted to get across the point that The First is desperate, chasing the belt like it's the One Ring. He kind of straddled the line between sympathetic challenger and greedy fly. Thankfully Stalker and Stevens both did a bunch of heel sh*t that allowed First to retain sympathy, but without a doubt Anarky earned more sympathy and respect tonight.
Heel of the Night
Being that he attacked everybody under the sun and cost Stevens the belt...Stalker. By far, Stalker has the most heat in EPW.
Line of the Night
"Jones: I have no idea! He's taking summer classes at college, so he isn't living at home with his mother and me."
It's the little things like this that make me laugh. I dunno, Siegel was bragging about the 'A' he got in class, so this reminded me of him.
Segment of the Night
The final segment, where Pat Jones' son was being carried off. Both Omega/Copycat segments were good. I'm a stickler for teleplay format on shows, so I wasn't a huge fan of the Omega narrative. I also think Copycat could be a little less longwinded and get to the point quicker; his dialogue can be hard to follow at times.
Surprise of the Night
Losing.
Nah, I had a feeling Black was going to beat Winters- Straw worked hard and deserved the win. What did surprise me, in a good way, was how he won, i.e. Winters clotheslining him out of the broken cage door. If I had to lose, this was the best way for it to go down. Winters is already a bitter man, losing makes it worse, and losing in this fashion is going to drive him nuts. I live to torture my characters, haha.
Moment of the Night
The First winning the EPW World Heavyweight Title. Well deserved, a long time coming. Congrats man.
Final Thoughts
Solid show. Everything had a purpose, and it sets up a lot of storyline drama going forward. If we stay at this pace, the PPV is going to have some of the best buildup of any major show in a long time.
