The show is finally posted and can be found by clicking on this link.

I'll assume for now that there are no major screwups in editing as I am tired of sifting through 114 pages in Word of Aggression. It was THAT LONG.

Thanks to everyone who picked up a match, and of course as always -- feedback would be most appreciated. :)

Brunk you very much... about a third of the way through my formal review of the card, and I'll hopefully have it wrapped up by tomorrow. For now, I shall commend you and the federation as a whole on a very excellent card.

Okay, here we go... bit by bit. Trying to be less nitpicky about personal styles. Consider my criticisms to be observations.

The Opening
...okay, so actually, there IS no opening. No highlight reel? No crappy White Stripes song? A minor gripe, I suppose, but having that show intro often gives me feeling that I’m reading a TV show transcript. Seemed like a simple copy and paste from a previous show would have been all that was needed... but whatever, you all pretty much know me by now as the nefarious Strawsma, He who Passive-Aggressively Bitches Too Much About the Contributions of Others in His Show Reviews. Anyway, decent show run-down by the commentary. Really liked Neely questioning the definition of a Wolf of the Sea and likening it to tunafish.

The First Intro Segment
I always dig a World Champion that comes out and addresses his fans at the start of a show. Always dig when he just comes out and throws a title shot to the presumed next contender. But anyway, it seemed like a good build to what I presume is the next title program. Only thing I didn’t really grab into was the vague mention of Rosie getting her skull broken. Did this happen on an earlier show, and I just glossed over it? Is this something only cool kids that aren’t me would know about? I even did a quick search on FWC and couldn’t find any reference of this taking place. It felt like a missing gap leading up to the blood money bit, and I just wasn’t catching it, sorry.

Team VIAGRA vs. Los Luchas Frescas
Good to see comedy matches haven’t gone to the wayside. That’s the first time I’ve seen (err, read) a flying salad tosser in a match since I wrote JA vs. Beau Michaels. I’ll give you a nickel if any of you can remember either of them. Anyway, a good, quick match that I enjoyed reading, with Neely’s commentary being gold. I definitely liked the cage match mechanics that were used, with one guy leaving and the other being left to fend for himself. Happy to see Flyer/Harmen and Davis advance, but I also felt that Los Luchas Frescas made a pretty strong and memorable showing.

“Triple X” Sean Stevens DVD Spot
To be honest, I was originally planning on throwing a Rocko Daymon segment onto this show recapping his EPW career... something to address what Colin mentioned on the last show, giving the character a bit of background for people who weren’t around in his prime. Kinda glad I didn’t get around to doing that, though, because it would have fallen short to this segment. By the same token, I still feel entirely in the dark to much of Trip’s legacy. Like, ALL of it. Stevens himself pretty much summed up my feelings in one line -- “If you haven’t competed in Greensboro, for that particular promotion, you really miss out on seeing if you really do have what it takes to be somebody in this industry.” Yeah, no shit... eight years in EPW, and I still feel like an inconsequential outsider in this community because I wasn’t in CSWA. This is coming from the guy who wrote Mark Windham vs. Dan Ryan II. Who the fuck is this Hornet guy, anyway? That is a serious question. Back on topic... really thought this was a unique bit, and I liked the inclusion of people from Stevens’ past giving commentary. Having a legendary character shilling a DVD gives a bit of depth to the inner FW Universe that really isn’t tapped as often as it could be. Somebody really should dig up all of Stevens’ past matches and make a compilation.

Dirk Dickwood Presents vs. The Dreamstealers
Wow... it actually feels like it’s been a long time since I’ve seen a beatdown occur during an entrance. Another decent, quick read with some comedic value... although it seemed to go by too fast. I felt that there was a lot of untapped potential here, especially with schemers like Dickwood and Mylde involved. Anyway, I guess you do what you gotta do in a no-show squash sort of situation. Disappointed to see the Dreamstealers ousted, but at the same time, happy to see DDP making the best of their second chance in this tournament.

Audition Commercial
I was expecting a Japanse girl cutting off some guy’s feet, but... this was a lot more hilarious than that.

Boogie Smallz vs. Christian Light
Boogie’s a fuckin’ beast... plain and simple. Loved the opening trash talk monologue on the part of Smallz, and equally loved the interruption by Light. The match itself was a good and competitive battle between powerhouses, and it felt like an appropriate length. Neely’s commentary really sold it for me. I’m glad Light hung in there and made a pretty good offensive showing -- I actually dig the character. EPW needs more face powerhouses, like Adrian Willard (speaking of... what happened to him?). It was disappointing seeing him get completely ravaged after the match, although I guess that’s an indication of my emotional attachment to the character. It did well to put over Boogie’s extreme habits and brutal determination. The post-match confrontation between Smallz and Ryan was also done really well. Despite the circumstances, I don’t think this is the last we’ll see of Boogie... and I sincerely hope this isn’t the last we see of Light.

Tarako Commercial
Umm... so this noodle food has an army of dicks for a mascot?

Rich Mahogany vs. Paladin
Another quick and easy match, befitting an RP squash. Highlight was Matthews suggesting that Paladin respec to Retribution -- something only us World of Warcraft players would catch onto. Mike’s reaction was appropriate. I actually don’t mind Mahogany as a face now, although I feel he’d be one of the few faces a guy like Neely would probably root for, as is the case with Stevens. The dichotomy between the smart-mouthed sex-machine that I’m used to and the emergence of a determined kind of wrath is a really interesting development for the character. Happier than ever to have Rich back in the Empire. Hopefully, this isn’t the last we see of the Codine Jr. character, as I felt it had a lot of potential.

“Triple X” Sean Stevens DVD Spot Part 2
My gut reaction is to say this is redundant... but then, kinda like WWE does with it’s DVDs, it almost makes sense that the company would be shoving this down the viewers’ throats. Lindsay’s annual on-camera appearance was a good mark-out moment. What does she do these days for money, anyway?

Teddy Alexander & Sam Turner, Jr. vs. Larry Tact & Steven Shane
Good match... though it probably could have gone on longer, or done a bit more to put over Alexander as a neck crushing beast, but it’s not a big deal... especially given the length of this card, and given there were something like twenty matches to write for this entire thing to come together. Shane comes out of this one with the real rub, being the uncooperative partner playing up his injuries and costing his partner the match. So far, every cage match has done a good job of not overusing the same antics... which is surprising, given the abundance of teams with partners that don’t get along. I was hoping to see the EPW veterans in Tact and Shane advance, but hopefully this elimination paves the way to a rivalry, possibly one that could carry over into the IC Title division. Good to see that Alexander and Turner, Jr. found partners they can rely upon.

Doing Business Commercial
These two look like Kenny Lombardo and Lesbian Siegel... only, you know, Japanese. Since it wasn’t really specified what they were selling, or if this was even a commercial at all, I’ll just assume it was Kenny passing a not letting that lesbo ho know that he’s still the top reporter in the company.

Teddy Alexander Segment
Whoever wrote the title to this segment deserves a medal... delivered in person by Tom Waits. Anyway, Alexander’s crush on the intern Matilda is a really interesting dimension to the character. It’s one thing to have super killface guy out in the ring all the time, but when you introduce the aspect of romance in his behind-the-scenes persona. I can dig it. I just hope he doesn’t end up crippling the poor girl while necking with her...

Rezin & Anarky © vs. MJ2 & Aaron Jones
HOLY SHIT... I have to give a huge sludge-filled salute to Brusch and Garth for putting out some tough ass promos during the RP week. A belated salute to Mad Dog from the last card, for that matter. All of you guys serious kicked my ass. As for the match, it was a pretty satisfying read. Seemed strange to have Anarky pretty much leave the competition halfway through the battle, but it really says something about the character’s endurance to come back from a sickening spot like that and make the killing the strike when the time was needed. Jones seemed to come across as being more competent on his own... signs that he’s beginning to come into his own. Maybe some of Joseph-Jones is rubbing off on him. I think Malcolm could have used a bit more of a rub, like maybe nailing a finisher right before Anarky made the return and the save. He DID chuck Anarky over the cage wall though... and that’s pretty badass. Really interested to see where these characters will go beyond the tournament -- I’d have a mind to think the TV Anti-Champion would have a big target on his back once he got back to defending his stake.

Dawn Commercial
Yes... AFTER you use this Dawn to do the fucking dishes, bitch!

Animezing Dragons © vs. Wolves of the Sea
Forget the Straw epic... not enough people are aware of the awesomeness that is the Brown epic. Look up Karl Brown vs. Foxx from years back. Sometimes the style of writing makes the action hard to follow, but remembering Karl’s voice acting background, when you put into your minds this dialogue being spoken through the imaginary voices of the commentators, it actually makes things fast-paced, dramatic, and a bit more compelling. It’s like what real televised commentary would be transcribed too. This match was long and epic... as it well should have been, with the Tag Team Titles on the line. The interruption of a commercial break only helped to hammer that point. Both teams showed off some really dynamic maneuvers, and the storytelling was present. The spot of a person falling through the announce table was unfortunately repeated... though I suppose nobody can fault two writers independently coming up with the same idea for their matches. The finish was the most interesting bit for me. Brown using a fireball seemed like a borderline heel move. I almost wonder if this is a sign of how desperation the Dragon is to keep his Tag Team legacy going.

“Triple X” Sean Stevens Segment
Quick and powerful. Fuckin’ loved it. Seemed to cap off the two earlier DVD spots where he was getting heaps of praise, and strangely, the simplicity of the delivery is a great contrast to the First’s opening segment. Unlike Stevens, who just wants to get to action, the First seemed eager to speak his mind and send his message, to the point where it almost came off as a maniacal rant with some symbolism thrown into it.

“Triple X” Sean Stevens & Impulse vs. The First © & Cameron Cruise
So, this was my match... and looking back, I’d say probably not one of my best. I seriously underestimated how difficult it is to write ongoing action between two sets of two. Been a while since I tackled the frontier of cage clusterfuckery. Making the matter even more difficult was trying to put everybody over in a decent way. I still feel like I didn’t do enough to give the Champ a rub, especially considering Cruise’s performance. I hope nobody minds the artistic liberties I took in tagging Cam with the title Mr. Grand Slam, and the mash-up name-job of X-Impact for the stereo superkick tandem finisher. Sudden Factor didn’t quite have the same pep. I also realized I didn’t really have much top-of-the-cage action... which probably isn’t so bad, given the two broken announcer tables from earlier in the night. I think I originally planned to have the First at the top of the cage, ready to finish off either of his opponents with a Cut the Threat from fifteen feet up... only to have Cam ruin his moment once again by peeling the guy off the mat and trying to finish things with a Reality Check. This would be the straw to break the camel’s back, sending the First down the cage in disgust as whomever blocks the Check and turns the tables on the now abandoned Cam. By that point, though, I was pretty much rushing through everything out of anxiety that I was holding up the card.

Now for the award ceremony...

Match of the Night: Animezing Dragons vs. Wolves of the Sea
Karl put it all out there for us. Funny thing is, with all the teams and storylines involved thus far in the King of the Cage tournament, the Tag Team Champions have quietly flown under the radar. I think this match should serve as a reminder that Brown and Otaku are the guys to look out for.

Face of the Night: Christian Light
Yeah, that's right... this guy basically came back from a disappointing debut for a chance to redeem himself in another man's ego-maniacal challenge to the entire world. Of everybody who could have come out and challenged Boogie, Light was the guy to do it. He fought clean up until the end, and had a tragic finish at the hands of a twisted madman. I seriously want to see Light vs. Smallz II at Unleashed in an old-school extreme rules match, with Light keeping it clean and sticking to his guns in spite of Smallz having the extra advantage. I would have given the Animezing Dragons this consideration had it not been for Brown going for a fireball and Otaku going for an escape at the end of their match.

Heel of the Night: Steven Shane
For pulling a total Alceo Dentari on his tag partner, Larry Tact, and letting him get double teamed into a pulp until he was ultimately finished off. The First feeding Cruise to the wolves is one thing... but it only came at the culmination of Cruise constantly trying to steal his thunder. Shane just plain threw Tact under the bus, when all Tact wanted to do was go into the cage and win the match as best he could.

Moment of the Night: Dan Ryan telling Boogie Smallz to get the fuck out of his ring
The animosity between these men is really reaching its boiling point. Dan Ryan, besides being the Humility Bombing Buster of Egos that we all know and love (and fear), is also really unique as a fed owner. A physically imposing boss who doesn't put up with any shit... for me, personally, it makes for a great personality for my own character to interact with. Then you put a guy like that face to face with Smallz, who is practically his doppleganger. This Insubordinate Talent Vs. Boss angle has me hooked.

Open Ended Comments:
I think Stanton said something on EFG a while back after Aggression 69 hit, along the lines of the team tournament detracting from the advancement of singles storylines. Hopefully now with more people out of the tournament, we can see more of that happening. The World Title picture has a few paths it could go into at this point, and with the champ out of the tournament, he's free to go wherever he chooses. I'm glad there's been an update on what's happening with the IC Title, and hopefully the guys announced in participating in that match will get around to building toward that monster match. Six teams left in the King of the Cage tournament... and it's up to those of us remaining in it to keep the momentum escalating, reminding everybody that this is THE event going on in the FW community right now. Good card, everybody. Keep up the good work.

Rosie got her skull broken in NFW. I forget which show. It led to an Impulse storyline rp where she miscarried. On my iPad now so I'll find the show when I get home.

I'm still trying to find time to read the whole card as I've been working something like every waking hour of my life for the past week. I did read through my match and I enjoyed it. I've been bugging Jeff and Justin to use the Joey Bomb, so to see it executed on a 6'9 300 lb (if I read his Ultratitle bio correctly) guy was a cool spot. Both guys got over, and I was happy with the end result; hopefully Boogie is as well.

Thanks a lot Straw. :)

Re: Light in EPW, I'd enjoy it, but my next month to six weeks is loaded with RL shit. We'll have to see if things calm down with my office's move and the next Raw Deal set's release, but if I find myself with free time and my Defiance commitments are met, I could definitely see Christian wanting to work EPW in the near future.

Holy shit is right...that was a REALLY intense RP battle. Huge props to you and Anarky, a well-deserved victory between a really cool tag team that I just flat-out enjoy reading. It would have been an upset of epic proportions if a team comprised of "zero televised matches ever" and "scrawny kid who's still incredibly green" went over, but I'm happy we were able to have that big a battle. It's not the Bracket of Death for nothing, folks. Whoever emerges will have earned the hell out of it. Will not be shocked one bit if Rezin/Anarky vs. Impulse/Stevens hits 20 RPs. Seriously. And Garth, you were a lot of fun to work with, and I look forward to the next time our paths cross in EPW. Aaron Jones may still be learning ropes, but we all know what happens when Magikarp hits level 20.

I've read some of the full matches but not all of them, so my review is pending, but glad this got up. Hopefully we can regain some of the momentum that may have been lost from the wait!

Ah, groovy... now that I know that, it gives the segment some context.

I guess my revised observation then is that it probably could have been mentioned within the seg that it what he's talking about happened in another company. Just something to give us uncool guys who don't follow New Frontier a point of reference, so it doesn't seem as completely random.

Let me just preface this by saying that these comments will help no one. My feedback sucks and my words should be taken with no validity. Now that I have discredited myself…on with the thoughts. These are not as helpful or well thought out like Strawsma…so here it goes. I will try to re-read my comments after I post, in case I missed placing a word to complete a thought.

You have been warned…

Opening Segment: I agree with Straw…what’s up with no montage at the open to a lame song? Don’t you just cut and paste it from old shows? :) Maybe you were trying something different…who knows. Either way…I enjoy an opening montage and think one narrated by Daniel Stern from The Wonder Years would work (Morgan Freeman gets too many of those gigs). Anyway…moving on past my preferences…a solid opener reviewing the card. Loved The First coming out and doing the weasel-ly deal on the mic giving Impulse a title shot and him not being there. Scumbag heels are the bomb and First is the best at it.

Los Luchas Frescas vs. Team Viagra: I had the unenviable task of writing up this masterpiece. That is sarcasm if no one noticed. Anyway…for a team that didn’t RP, LLF got a great showing I think. I remember back in the day when a non-RPer would get totally squashed…but we now live in a different age in FW. I don’t mean to gripe too much, but no-showing for a booked match really ticks me off. I, of course, will come out of this sounding like a jerk because there is probably a legit reason why the guy didn’t RP. Anyway…Viagra moves on with minimal effort again. I don’t mean to bust balls, but Ford has had an easy route thru the tournament thus far. And I think he may be facing Colin next round…so that will be a monster thread of RP there. (More sarcasm.) I wonder who will flinch first and write RP. Honestly, I have lost track of who is in what bracket. Anyway, I like Team Viagra and would like to see more out of them to know them better. If that makes sense.

Sean Stevens Infomercial: It lacked something…like a little British dude saying if you order now…they will throw in a Ninja Chopper or something.

Dreamstealers vs. Dirk Dickwood Presents: BOO! Another no-show. Why Billy, why? I know it wasn’t because of Hurricane Sandy, that was after the deadline. I had high hopes for the Dreamstealers and they keep disappointing me. Dirk Dickwood is good. I enjoyed reading them in Round One. And how can you hate on a team that uses Billy Ocean as their ring entrance song?

Christian Light vs. Boogie Smallz: I really dig Christian Light. I had no idea what I was getting into by doing an open challenge for Boogie. Light was the only one to take it and I didn’t know what to expect until his first promo. Come to find out, this guy won the big tournament season deal in Defiance, so it’s safe to say he kicks ass. Light had a good showing here and seemed to rock Boogie most of the match. Boogie snaps and goes psycho with a hammer…something he hasn’t done before. I really would like Christian Light to stay around. I have even considered going to Defiance for a run, but I don’t think Boogie would mesh well there. Who knows now that Boogie is a free agent. The post-match was cool because for a second I thought Dan Ryan had changed his mind and was going to re-sign Smallz. I was wrong. :-(

Rich Mahogany vs. Paladin: Alright…what the hell happened to Kent? Paladin was getting a good push and I thought he was going to stay around for a while. I was wrong. I think he even abandoned his fantasy football team in the EPW league. WTF? Well, he is now the EPW JTTS it seems. I did not know much about Mahogany. I know he was around before I came back…and now I guess he is sticking around after the King of the Cage tourney. I can’t wait to see what he can do.

Sean Stevens Infomercial #2: Dude…we get it. You are hocking your merchandise. Maybe this should’ve been combined with the 1st infomercial. Use Lindsay Troy as a hand model…holding up the DVD and then demonstrating the free Sham-wow for the first 100 orders. I don’t know. I think this was the first time Troy has done a promo since Joey Melton serenaded her in a mall in the Final Four of Ultratitle. Just adds more speculation to when/if she will return.

Teddy Alexander/Sam Turner Jr. vs. Larry Tact/Steven Shane: I really like Teddy Alexander, glad he got a reliable tag partner AND a good spot in the bracketing. Am I hating? Not at all…just jealous because my KOTC experience blew. I know that Tact and Shane have been around a while, but I haven’t really seen much of anything from them since my return. I guess some real life stuff is going on there. And Sam Turner Jr. gets mad respect from me because the dude RPed from a hospital bed with his life hanging in the balance…from a smart phone! That is dedication (I know it was in round one, but damn...that leaves an impression). Hopefully he is doing well now. Anyway…this is my dark horse team to win the tournament.

Teddy Alexander Romance: Dude is a pimp. I guess Matilda is hot, but with a name like that…I can’t help but think of the mascot for the British Bulldogs. Another layer to Teddy to add some complexity to the character. Curious to see where things go with this. Also wondering what’s going on with Alexander and First. Nothing with those guys for this card.

MJ2/Aaron Jones vs. Anarky and Rezin: This was a good RP battle and I dig MJ2. He reminds me of Boogie back in ’02 without the marijuana usage and bottle-poppin’. Anarky and Rezin eliminated me on the last show…so part of me was pulling for them. You always want to see the team that beats you advance and go on to good things. Well, in some cases at least. It was a good match and I think it reflected the effort of all involved. Curious to see where MJ2 goes after this…I smell a match with Aaron Jones on the horizon. Anarky and Rezin move on to the final match in the Bracket of Death. You gotta figure whoever they face in the next round is gonna be a tough battle.

Wolves of the Sea vs. Animezing Dragons: No wonder this match took a while to get in. It got both teams over and lots of drama. Good match here. I got nothing else to add, sorry.

Sean Stevens Promo: I am disappointed that Stevens didn’t pull out a copy of his DVD at the end of this. Solid work to open up the match.

Sean Stevens/Impulse vs. First/Cameron Cruise: They certainly deserved the main event on the show. All parties worked hard on RP. As for he match writing, I need to take a few tips from this match and learn to add sound effects and whatnot. The last time I wrote matches in FW was before Y2K. I have been doing so since I came back and it’s been rough for me. Anyway…I don’t mean to sound like I am adding on to what I read in NFW, but if you read the RP thread…it just seems like heel versus heel. The faceness doesn’t shine through to me. The only way I know who the faces are is by the crowd reaction and the selling by First. I can definitely see tweener. Everyone in this match is a great writer and I don’t mean to sound disrespectful to any of you. Maybe I have just been away too long and this is how FW is now. I shrug my shoulders on that. So back to the match. Stevens and Impulse move on to the last match in the Bracket of Death and face Anarky/Rezin. This will be a good RP battle and I am guessing will be the main event on the next show.

Alright…now to the awards for the show…

Match of the Night: Wolves of the Sea vs. Animezing Dragons

Face of the Night: Christian Light. (Am I saying that to bite off of Straw? No. Am I saying that because Boogie was a strong heel and made him a better face? :) No. Am I saying that so he sticks around and becomes a regular in a role that is needed here? Absolutely.)

Heel of the Night: Sean Stevens with the segment overload. :)

Moment of the Night: First challenging Impulse at the open of the show.

And that about wraps it up for me. I don’t usually post these because my comments help no one, but feedback was lacking…so I thought I would spew out my random thoughts. Sorry to waste everyone’s time.

Seriously though…we need more feedback…so get to writing people.

And feel free to comment on my comments.

Opening Segment: I don’t really read the cards for the opening segs, so it isn’t a big deal to me that there wasn’t an over-the-top intro to Aggression 70. A quick rundown of each match, small storyline points from the commentators, that’s all I need if it’s not PPV-level.

The First challenges Impulse: The First is such a baiting dick, and it’s great. His references to Impulse/Rose stuff were brought up in the RP battle (I think), so it was a good continuation of that storyline. I dug it.

Los Luchas Frescas v. Team VIAGRA: Viagra wins in a match that is just as absurd as you’d hope for out of these types of teams. You rarely see the “Flying Asshole” called in a match, but it made me laugh. There was a lot of potential for more hijinks, but they go missing if you don’t RP in a match. A good, quick opener.

Triple X DVD Commercial #1: I’ll be honest, when I read this first one, I was (stupidly) thinking it would be foreshadowing for First and Cruise to go over Impulse and Stevens. A silly thought in hindsight. Brings up lots of history, which is always cool to see from the perspective of someone relatively new to these parts (except for maybe CSWA, who has been set to return “This month!” for about four months now).

Dreamstealers v. Dirk Dickwood Presents: Another no-show occurred, and this could have been one of the longer and more unique matches had that not been the case. Good to see the opening ramp beatdown, shows that Farthington and Hank recognize the opportunity they’ve been given as Lucky Losers and wouldn’t take any chances. A cage escape win, and Colin advances. Here’s to hoping he gets more to work against next round - I think we all saw in his first round match against Cruise and The First that he can do some cool things when given more to work with.

Audition: *gyrates hips*

Boogie Smallz v. Christian Light: Holy brutality, but I loved it. It’s always great to see two hosses go at it, and then holy balls, Smallz goes all out on Light. Dan Ryan’s exchange with him at the end of the match is an awesome highlight, and exactly what should have happened considering the barbs thrown at each other throughout the last couple cards. Something tells me this isn’t the last of Smallz, though…but I may be wrong. And the Intercontinental title match gets announced - but that fifth slot is still open. Room for INTRIGUE~

Tarako: My facial expression matched the kid’s at 0:15. Because wow.

Rich Mahogany v. Paladin: I ended up writing this one, and I hope it was alright. Hard for me to justify giving Paladin too much to work with after back-to-back no-shows, but that’s my personal thought. Glad Straw got the WoW joke :)

Triple X DVD Commercial #2: I would have loved to work with Lindsay Troy from all the things I’ve read about her.

Alexander/Turner Jr. v. Tact/Shane: Really happy for Alexander/Turner Jr., as they’re a team that really works for me as far as thrown-together hosses. Not at all surprised to see Shane abandon Tact after the first round tension and the RP battle - it definitely perpetuates an important theme in this tournament that it takes TEAMS to win this thing. Could have been fleshed out a little more, but an entertaining read.

Doing Business: I don’t get why this is weird - how do YOU hand pieces of paper to women seated at your table?

Subtly Waltzing Matilda: Why can’t I shake the feeling that Matilda is going to reveal herself as the Big Bad?

MJ2/Aaron Jones v. Rezin/Anarky: I touched on it a bit before, but holy balls this match. Aaron and I put up a fight, but in the end, couldn’t overcome the stronger personal bond between Rezin and Anarky. I enjoyed it, and I enjoyed getting to throw Anarky off a cage through a table. I am excited to continue MJ2 going forward - you can never have enough giant beasts in a company.

Dawn Commercial:

Wolves of the Sea v. Animezing Dragons: Well holy crap, Karl! No wonder this took a while, but it was worth it. It’s probably a little easier to write these Herculean epics when you’re so familiar with all characters involved, but it makes for some special moments. The Wolves of the Sea are great, but it really continues showing how important these titles are that the Dragons pulled out this level of intensity.

Triple X segment: Way better than the commercials to me. Dug it.

Main event: The winner of Bracket 2 has one of two possible outcomes: either they are the prohibitive favorite to take it all down, or they will be so exhausted to get through their bracket that it’ll cost them the titles in the end. Either way, holy crap this RP battle. Just, holy crap. Stevens/Impulse v. Rezin/Anarky is going to be nuts.

Match of the Night: Wolves/Dragons, followed closely by the main event.

Face of the Night: Stevens for his work throughout the card, Mahogany for his turn, or Matilda for getting Alexander to blush. Take your pick.

Heel of the Night: Boogie Smallz. Hammering away and just generally being over-the-top violent, followed by Ryan getting comeuppance at the end.

Moment of the Night: Dan Ryan teases Boogie with a contract then slams the door on him.

Open Ended Comments: The goal for the next card is no no-shows from teams still in the tournament, and also for it to get put together a little quicker this time (though there were many reasons for that). Good work, you guys.

Thanks for the feedback so far, guys.

Once I get a sufficient amount of feedback, I'll post the next show's lineup.

Just so ya know. :)

Match of the Night: I'd love to go against the grain and say something else, but the Main Event was where it was at. Plenty of tension between the combatants. Back and forth action. People kicking out of gunshot wounds. Lots of capital letters. What else can you ask for?

Face of the Night: Man. I don't even know. There wasn't a ton of face-ing in the card. Even Karl Brown seemed to be throwing fireballs, and Otaku kill someone? Christian Light was also almost murdered with a hammer, which is... heroic I guess? Maybe Impulse. I dunno. Hard to say, really.

Heel of the Night: Boogie with an honorable mention to Steven Shane for screwing Tact. But at least that was understandable. Boogie nearly killing someone with a hammer for no reason was pretty uncalled for, though. When will the violence end?

Moment of the Night: I thoroughly enjoyed Brunk telling Boogie to f*ck off. I also personally marked for Anarky getting thrown off the top of the cage and fighting off EMT's later, but I'm not what you'd called an "unbiased observer."

Open Ended Comments: I'm starting to think these shows are just a way for Brunk to sell Triple X DVD's and force us all to watch bizarre Japanese "commercials." Nah but seriously, this was overall worth the wait. A great show with a ton of highlights and I really think the tournament is building up to something great.

On that note, I am terrified of having to RP against Pete and Jay. I am hoping maybe someone becomes violently ill. But, you know... just temporarily and it turns out everything is fine.

First off - thank you to everyone who's said good things about the match! I'm a hugely harsh critic of myself, and truth be told I cut a lot of what I'd originally planned to make sure I got it in, but it's really humbling and a huge plus to read that people enjoyed the match :) Hopefully I get the time to write another one soon, I enjoyed writing a match again :)

Now onto my shortened review - a full one will come in if I get the time this week :)

Match of the Night: Main event. Hands down for me. There was a huge amount going on and it's difficult to keep track of it all as a writer, but man, that was so much fun. Given the characters involved it told such an amazing story and showed precisely why that's the "Bracket of Death", as well as how much the tournament means to the participants.

Face of the Night: Does Dan Ryan count? Actually, I'd say Christian Light. Taking that beating made me get behind him, and having the guts to accept Boogie's challenge is huge. I hope he sticks around and we get to see his development here!

Heel of the Night: Boogie Smallz. Next!

Moment of the Night: A moment's egotism for me, but I still get shivers from the end sequence to the tag team title match. It was one of a few moments when I've been dreaming a match up as a writer where I've gone "I NEED to put that in!" and I've thought through all the physics to make sure it's believable. The whole thing for me, from Brown giving Otaku the plan to Otaku throwing Syd off the cage, Jameson thinking about throwing away the prize they crave to check on his partner, to the visual of a fireball at speed, suplex from the cage to a 450 splash from the top just... *sigh*

I also LOVED Cruise pulling First off the cage wall. Really strong moment that told us a lot about both characters.

Open Ended Comments: This tournament has been a lot of fun. I also think that, overall, this is one of the strongest cards Empire Pro's put out in a while - they're usually very good, but this one was up there with the best. Exciting action, a Strawsma EPIC up with his best, innovative offence and a huge emphasis on tag team wrestling, I loved reading every part of this card the 5 times I've read it so far. Even if I've gotten funny looks in the office wincing from some of the bumps!

Now to start getting ready for the next one!

Very reminiscent of one of my all time favorite WWF matches, Taker/Mankind HIAC. All that was missing was MJ2 dropping Anarky on thumbtacks ;)

OK, let's take it from the top.

INTRO/FIRST PROMO: Sorry I didn't get the highlight package in, my mistake there, First had called out Impulse over the stuff that happened to Rose in the thread for this match my fault for not bringing it up again in the segment. I am thankful people liked First's grandstand challenge he knew wouldn't be answered.

NO SHOW MATCH UNO: Did what it needed to do for a no-show, slackers.

TRIPLE X SEGMENT: I liked the build through the show for Stevens, the lack of Impulse on the show was kind of weird, since theRp for the main event had a sort of 'Impulse and First are going to fight" kind of flavor to it, and now Stevens is openly declaring himself as still being the man, I'd love to see it shake out that Stevens tells Impulse it's not his time yet and that Triple X is looking to be the first to get a legit three title runs in EPW.

NO-SHOW MATCH DOS: Damn you Billy. If anyone knows how I look at booking they would know the Dreamstealers were the perfect winners for KotC and he dropped the ball, maybe DDP can rally and carry the torch, I'd be a fan of Colin doing it since I like the characters and the Rp.

BOOGIE SMALLZ Vs CHRISTIAN LIGHT: Mad Dog you really need to ease off the self loathing, seriously man, read this friggin' feedback, people loved your match and they loved Boogie, chill out already. Great match that told the story well with Boogie looking like a monster and the blow off with Ryan. I am sure this will continue to play out between the two of them.

NO-SHOW MATCH TRES: I liked Paladin so it sucks he's vanished. I also love Rich Mahogany and hope Justin sticks around and runs with the ball cause he was doing good last time and if he goes again it'll be great.

TRIP SEGMENT #2: Lindsay Troy shows up, that's pretty cool, that was the big blow off match that never happened but having her give the seal of approval to Stevens is good times. Again this card felt like a coming out party for Stevens in his return.

TEDDY/TURNER VS TACT/SHANE: Sorry I didn't write a longer match, this was given to me in the 11th hour and I tried to get it back to Brunk ASAP so the show would go up. Just tried to tell the story of Shane being a jerk who screwed Tact over, I could have given it a few more pages but at this point it was the missing piece to the card so I just wanted it done so the league could move on.

TEDDY MACKS ON A LADY: Character development from Teddy. I hope Voss sticks to it because I enjoy working with him and I like Teddy Alexander a lot.

REZIN/ANARKY VS JONES/MJ2

This was hard to write since I was told to make Rezin look really good and make Aaron Jones look really good, and that was just a tough road to go down because Jones is pretty much in the early stages of the Mikey Whipwreck "Guy who shouldn't be a wrestler but is now starting to get it." storyarc, and how do you look good against him? If you beat him you're supposed to and if you make him look good, now you kind of suck cause he's not supposed to be good. I decided to have Jones get some offense early and to take out Anarky to make Rezin have to carry the match for his team so he'd look strong that he held off both opponents until Anarky made the return, glad Josh liked the Anarky return for the finish.

KARL BROWN FIGHTS HIMSELF: This was a crazy match and Karl busted his ass on it, but because I knew it was him fighting himself I never really got totally engaged in it because really there is no drama in it, it's not Karl's fault for that just that the pairings worked out as they did.

TRIP SEGMENT #3: Again this segment just felt like Stevens was claiming the alpha dog mantle from Impulse over who was going to take the shot at First. Stevens is coming for blood.

MAIN EVENT: A great read that told a great story, the only issue I had with it is that Muse is now roughly 5 months pregnant and shouldn't have been out there, Teddy should have been First's cornerman for the match, but besides the intro she didn't factor into things so that was good. The First/Cruise tension was what it should have been and the result was about what I expected it to be, all in all it was excellent.

MATCH OF THE NIGHT: Main Event

FACE OF THE NIGHT: Stevens. Stepped up to the plate, came through in the main event.

HEEL OF THE NIGHT: Boogie, We like you Mad Dog, we really like you!

MOMENT OF THE NIGHT: Cruise enduring a horrible beating at First ditched out on him/Boogie going apeshit on Light.

COMMENTS: I feel like the main event of Unleashed is now really up in the air, with Cruise/Stevens/Impulse all having legit claims at getting a shot at the title, the Boogie/Ryan storyline is also heating up and the IC Title needs a holder so how that all plays out will be interesting. The build to the PPV has started and hopefully will get stronger on the next two shows.

To all of the people that felt like those DVD segments seemed a bit redundant? Good. Now go and buy the damned DVD. ;)

No, seriously... thanks for the feedback guys. I have a vision in mind with where I'm taking the character, and everything that I've done(or haven't done) thus far, has been well thought out. There's an end to the means, if you will.

Ryan Robert Strawsma, you are way too hard on yourself. FANTASTIC match that was action paced, told a story, and made Cameron Cruise come out looking like Denzel on Training Day when the Russians shot him. They unloaded God knows how many rounds in him, and he still manages to get up, and get out of the car, until they did the same thing twice.

The First is The First. As much shit as I talk in character, I think The First is a phenomenal character that wasn't necessarily created to make the big time. So, it's fitting that now that he's made it there, his attitude shifts. I'm not even sure if any of what I'm saying is making sense, but dammit, I understand it.

Pete? You are the King, my friend, and it's been a pleasure RPing beside you. I remember back in 98 when we all were our characters, and how deathly afraid of you I was, because I thought you actually wore trench coats and hung out on roof tops. You've taken me under your wing more than anyone else, and I am eternally grateful to be in the same fed as you, let alone being able to RP beside you.

Sidebar: No bullshit. Pete and I were texting each other, trying to get the other not to post because it was "my" turn. I am having the time of my life.

Cameron looked like a million bucks to me. I fucking love Rezin and Anarky, and there's something about the Anarky character that causes me to attempt to show up whenever we're in a thread together, and I am afraid of any and all Strawsma characters, so next round should be fun.

In closing...

BUY THE DAMNED DVD!

Great card, team.

BUY THE DAMNED DVD!

It would be pretty funny if you could buy it from Brunk and he just sends you back a DVD-R with Karl Brown's handler basically doing an audio book of the "greatest of" matches. Especially if there were different voices for the announcers.

I enjoyed my match, and appreciate that even though it was a no-show match that could have easily been one-lined, some effort was put in to get Rich over. I also appreciate that whoever wrote it has obviously been paying attention to Rich as a character, I can't say enough about how good this was for a glorified squash match.

It hurts me to see Christian Light get beat up, but then I've been marking for that guy for fifteen years. I'd love to see him work in EPW more, BUT ONLY AFTER HIS DEFIANCE COMMITMENTS HAVE BEEN MET~!

because I thought you actually wore trench coats and hung out on roof tops.

I don't do that anymore, because it's too hot to wear my black leather trenchcoat in SC, and they don't really have rooftops down south. Two stories, what's the point?

Seriously, my $500 coat cost me $15 since I got it at a thrift store, and it was in perfect condition. Go me.

Anyways, I thought this was a top to bottom awesome card. I really can't go into as much detail on face or heel of the card since every win and loss was a group effort, but the dynamic between First and Cruise is one of my favorite current happenings in the Empire. First and Pulse may be heating up but First and Cruise is still boiling over.

Calling it: Wrestleverse 2013 main event is a four way elimination match: First vs. Cruise vs. Pulse vs. Trip. No idea who will come in with the belt.

Team of the night: Nark/Rezin. I said this on EFG a few weeks ago, I think Anarky has become infinitely more interesting since losing the World Title and hooking up with Rezin, and I daresay he's the most interesting character on the roster right now.

Match of the night: Main event, because Strawbot is... a Strawbot.

Echoing what Justin said about paying attention to character, the matchwriters top to bottom really hit it out of the park.

Oh good, Black Dawn all over again with Impulse replacing Hart. I'll have to take a week off of work.
