The following statement, recorded by ANCALAGON, was originally aired and discussed on Sirius/XM’s Rosenberg Radio and was later rebroadcast and re-discussed on Sirius/XM’s Busted Open Radio.
ANCALAGON: Unlike my colleague Zack, I do not like to talk about our immortality, for my own personal reasons. But I feel compelled to bring it up here, because it is a fitting backdrop to one of the things I have loved the most that have come from the realm of human imagination.
This very tool that I speak to you on today: the radio.
For many, many years before this invention humans had struggled to communicate over long distances. There was never a truly effective method to make ones thoughts known over great distances. Sure, humans could write things down on a piece of paper and send them off with another human, but that system was far from perfect.
There were early communication alternatives. of course, such as the telegraph. But using a telegraph required specialized equipment and knowledge not common to all people. For regular communication this method would not do.
Then we got radio.
I'm not going to bore you with the details of the history of radio, though I find it fascinating. What I will say is that radio has evolved into an easily accessible method of communication, so much so that it is still used today despite the inventions of television and the Internet.
It is, by far, one of my favorite human inventions, and I can think of no better way to break my silence than to use a radio broadcast.
For those of you who tuned in, I have been absent since BRAWL 71 due to the fact that Legion attacked me during the first encounter between the Chromatic Dragons and the Graverobbers. Even as an immortal, when you get to be a certain age, some things don't bounce back as well as they used to. Legion's attack was savage and came at a moment where I was truly focused on the matter of prying the EMT titles from the Black Market's grasp and thus was not able to defend myself properly. While I am loathe to give credit to the Black Market, Legion’s mind often walks the tightrope between tactician and insane man, and at that moment he erred on the side of tactician.
So congratulations, Legion. The first battle was won by you and your charges.
But if you think that has had a negative effect on us, then you have erred on the side of insanity.
The Chromatic Dragons have become galvanized, Legion. I have dedicated my focus and my energies into making sure that your influence falls apart sooner rather than later, and when I return to BRAWL 72, the fruits of my planning and both Zack and Zero's hard work will begin to bear. They exist now for one purpose...to conquer the Black Market and grasp hold of those EMT tag titles that the Graverobbers currently clutch onto. And there is no force on this planet, be it Ill Fortune, Dirty Deeds, or any other team that will stop us from coming for you and yours, Legion.
Wherever you go, whatever you do, your team will need to look to the skies. They will need to look for the Dragons swooping down, ready to lay waste to those who would defy us. This BRAWL, in Wichita, the Dragons will touch down to do battle with you, and we bring with us a man of great fury and great anger. And his anger, Legion, is what will keep him focused on the cause. His lust for your blood, while personally distasteful, will unite our team, if only for one night.
[A moment of dead air.]
ANCALAGON: Do you notice the pattern, Legion?
Do you notice the line of men lined up to get a piece of your Black Market? Not just the Fellowship...not just Teddy Alexander...but men like Dorchester Stratton and Blaine Hollywood...teams like Ill Fortune...the enemies, they are a growing in number, aren't they?
And here you are, burning bridges with one of the few allies you had left.
It will only be a matter of time before your attention becomes diverted, like mine did by turning away from you and focusing on the EMT tag title match at BRAWL 71. And when that happens, when your eye comes off the ball for a split second, that will be the moment of your fall.
And once you fall, so too will Bandit and Devastator.
Welcome to your Dying.
