The Gold Standard:
This segment tickled me because during the final runup to this show airing, I watched Smackdown and they had a segment that began with an inring interview(MizTV) with Orton and Big Show being interviewed. Then Jack Swagger came out to talk shit and be a heel. Then Alberto del Rio came out to talk shit. Then Mark Henry. Then Sheamus. It turned into an 8-man tag as booked by Teddy Long(Playa!).
Sure, this Gold Standard segment didn't end that way, but when I mentioned that WWE segment to Justin, he went "Uh, maybe I should rebook." Then didn't bother because that'd be silly. We're not competing with the WWE or anything, fuck that. But this is a tried-and-true formula for pro wrestling, and I liked that it ended with setting up the overall main event angle leading into the next payperview. Ladder War was awesome and established one of my favorite feuds in DEFIANCE, as well as making Box the name he is today. Seeing a sequel is gonna rule. This was a fun segment that would have been improved only by getting Justin more editing time and not having his internet connection be fucked up.
I liked the crowd reactions, but I'm not sure if I really think a crowd would do the elongated cha-cha-chachacha thing. Then again, they just might. Maybe a little more moderation, I dunno. Something about it was mildly annoying, but fun stuff overall.
Stratton/BBS
I like getting Stratton reestablished with some silliness and some fun wrestling. This was a solid little fun-match. We all knew where it was going(So long as Stratton showed up), and I like the overall angle. It gives Stratton a fun thing to bounce off of as we go forward.
(Slater should have won because his ring music is much better than Stratton's.)
WHY NOT MORE FEIT
Lee, thanks for pitching in. Your additions to this segment took it from a fun Kevin thing to making the segment actually forward more things than JUST Tom/Heidi. That's exactly what I love about collaborating AND Google Docs. Christ, I love Google Docs. I would fuck Google Docs gently and tenderly if I could.
Maybe Lee too, I dunno. (TMI?)
WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM
I loved this segment because I love Walker and Greer. The charisma between these two is undeniable and one of the reasons I'm so into seeing TD-the-tag-team come back. I always love reading the RPs and segments these guys do. I can't do much aside from fellate them. Only other thing is that y'all should follow the formatting guide.
http://www.fwrestling.com/showthread.php?24352-Defiance-formatting-guide
Use dat.
Eugene/Knyte:
Bummer that Knyte noshowed and is gone. Again. But hey, Eugene got to kill someone dead! Huzzah! I really want to try to help Eugene as a character be a big name in the near future, and intend to keep working on that with oncards with Tom in the near future.
Office Time:
I didn't like how this segment ended. Justin at one point said he was gonna get around to fixing it, then his internet died. Still, fun segment that I wrote, so I'm not gonna belabor the point. I like my writing, for the most part.
Face Value:
We all know the issue with the NSFW gif at the end, which I thought was funny. Don't use NSFW gifs on DEFBoards or results because for once, we're not a sausage party. Also, some folks like to browse DEF while at work, we don't want to get anyone fired for reading e-fed shit.
Fix your fuckin' formatting and
use the formatting guide next time, buttlord. Other than that, I'm a big fan of CVC because he's a great fuckbrain heel who everyone hates. Good work doin' that. I want to see a midcard division coming more to life centered around Chance, so hopefully we can get that going.
Mike Sloan XPerience vs Philosopher Kings:
The Philosopher Kings should make more jokes based on old philosophers. May I suggest
this video?
Mike Sloan is a butt and I don't care about him. I'm sorry to be harsh, but I really dislike him because he feels like he's trying very hard to be other names like Eric Dane. That said, I'm a big fan of Curtis Penn and his ring music. I'd love to see Penn decide to break out from Sloan's shadow and try to become his own man, leading his own team. I think that Penn could do some solid, cool stuff in the near future as either the leader of the team or as his own singles wrestler.
I've been into Troy Matthews for a while. I hate how his handler keeps vanishing for a while, then coming back, because it kills all of Troy's momentum dead. I'd love to see Troy hold some belts and become someone valuable to DEF, in-character. And I'm interested to find out more about Mushigihara and Eddie Dante. So, yeah. Do more with them soon. Cool.
Short, but fun little match. Add more line breaks during these bigger chunks of text in the future, because it's hard for me not to just glaze over and start skipping lines, lose track of the match and just go "Oh, fuckit, who wins" and skip to the end.
Meeting or Pleading?
This segment, while fun, and establishing Greer in DEF once more, also shows that Eric Dane isn't going to be acting like Andrews was and favoring people because they were his cronies. Dane is a businessman now. He's closed the books on every old feud, whether it be Mandrake, Andrews, or anyone else. He killed the WfWA to put it out of its own misery, and now is focused on providing the best wrestling product possible. There's no skeletons left to turn into big old "Who is the guy in charge?!" angles, so we can just have Dane work as the impartial, business-focused bossman.
I love that. We don't need to worry about who runs DEFIANCE, we get to have Dane have that job ironclad and shackled to his ankle. Now we get to worry about who has the belts, who's the top badass in the company, and we're not gonna get dragged into retarded shit like what's been happening on Raw with HHH feeling like he needs to get dressed one last time to fight again and again and again. Dane's an untouchable badass but nobody really needs or wants to see if he's still got it. We know he's capable of fighting, but if you really want to fight someone, he'll just let you have at Sawyer or Ryan or Jiles or Light or Greer or someone.
Which is cool.
Anyway.
Crazyfuck Fourway:
I typoed Fourway to be Fourwar, and I like that name.
Why is Tucker still entering to no music? He needs to get somethin' going to really give the fans something to grab onto. I've read his bio and I like the character concept, but he needs to begin showing a little more personality for me to get on board.
I like Turner, but I realize that he's tagteaming elsewhere and that King is busy with other shit. Still. STJ is a fun character and I hope he'll continue being a solid member of the midcard instead of slipping down to doodle around in obscurity. I will say that part of that is my bad for the failure of the Good Fight. I'm no good at figureheading face stables. So... I think I'll avoid that in the future.
I still don't know how I feel about Lash. He's a fun face, and "simple man" gimmicks are sweet, but his speech pattern annoys me sometimes. Whatevs, doesn't bug me enough for it to be a problem.
I said this before, but CVC is fun as fuck. I love how sleazy he is, and I foresee him being a solid DEFIANT for a long while.
(The term used in conjunction with ejaculation is typically "skeet", not "ski".)
Anyway. The match was fun, if a little short. Then again, I have the opposite problem and can't ever go the proper length for matches. I always go too long, like in the Tom/Python match that happened next. I don't really have anything to say one way or another about the match.
Psyching Up:
James did good stuff with this segment with me. I've got something to pay off in a roleplay this RP period from this segment, but other than that, it was fun.
Hey everybody else: Do you know why Tom was all over this show?
Because I write the segments and then get other people to fix/edit/add more to their parts. So, do you know how you can be all over the show?
Write segments and get other people to fix/edit/add more to their parts. If you want to end up being someone in multiple places on the show and get more face time(Which usually leads to better angles and more fun being had), you should write more segments. Just watch old wrestling and steal ideas, or come up with cool interactions between someone else on the card.
"Oh, know what a cool conflict might be? If CVC and Bronson Box accidentally meet one another in the bathroom. CVC makes a dick joke about Box, Box gets pissed, stuff happens."
"Oh, know what'd be fun? If Jane Katze and Sam Turner meet up at the food table backstage and have some words."
"Know what'd be cool? Light and Tucker meeting up and Tucker trying to get some "How to be a success" advice, while Light continues to be grumbly and pissy."
All of those came about by me thinking "Who is two people on the roster. What could happen at a live TV taping." Done. Bam. Do it. Srsly. We don't need 87 segments, but I WOULD love to see more segments with more people. I've already suggested some stuff to some of you, but I'd love to see stuff happening independently of me.
Python/Tom:
Nice work on the prematch seg. I quite enjoyed that, and it all rolled together to make the match I wanted to write happen. To be honest, I had this planned since before Untouchable. After the PPV went off the way I wanted my stuff to happen, I tried to make this be a refreshing night for Tom, where he doesn't just get his shit beaten down and everything be all doom and gloom. I'm glad it all came off so well.
Kai Scott's Backstage Interview:
I'm a huge Kai Scott mark. And I hope to see Kai and Claira NOT cross paths for a bit. Claira should be doing some cool stuff with Tres Brujas(And I hope Diane Parker gets some singles matches, because her ring music is the best in DEFIANCE. Sorry George, I love Screamin' Jay, but I am
such a Dio mark.) and the Trios div, which I hope we can get some good oomph behind.
Anyway. Kai Scott rules and as was said before, him getting time to shine without being tied so closely to Jeff is gonna be sweet. I fuckin' love Scott and how Lee handles him, I love how he comes off in promoes and segments. I hope this whole cycle can be a big Kai Scott Establishing cycle, because I'd love for him to get to a Box level.
UTs/Brujas:
The way Heidi and Ronnie were handled in this match was really cool. Long finally giving up on just trying to be there for his friends was solid. There's only so much a man can swallow before giving the fuck up, right?
Also: Brujas is misspelled in the team headshot logo thing. It's not BRJUAS.
Heidi storming off was really good. Her frustration was palpable, and I hope what we do next show in regards to her will continue this angle in a good way.
Not to insult Dentari, but I'd love to see the Brujas win the tag straps when they get their shot. That team is fun and could use the legitimizing win.
PROMO
Hell of a title, mang.
I'll admit. I was a Dan Ryan hater. I didn't like him at first, and I felt like he was some outsider being brought into DEFIANCE and getting a Goldberg push where he kills some people dead and just acts like a badass. But since he's put in the time and really spent some effort here, I've come around. The backround roleplays done to make Ryan feel more like an actual person helped a lot. So, leading into this match, I've been enjoying Ryan's stuff more.
Also, that last line was really, really good.
I shudder to think of how the eventual Tom/Dan match is gonna go.
MAIN EVENT:
The Ryan/Box match was pretty tight. Good shit, Ryan got a major fuckin' rub against one of DEFIANCE's toughest names in a hell of a match. I would have preferred if it went longer and both guys got more time to be Hard as Fuck, but it makes sense not to blow the load on the epic confrontation just now.
But when it turned into a schmozz, that was pretty rad.
But when it turned into a massive tag match... That's when my dick got ultra hard. That was amazing. Justin said at some point in the AIM chat "We're working on the main event" and I was like "I DON'T CARE IF I'M NOT IN IT" and Justin was like "
you are", I about came out of amazement and glee. I had known NOTHING about this, and it was so
mindblowingly cool.
That said. We shouldn't do this every week.
But fuck, real wrestling does this. DEFIANCE does real wrestling's shit better most of the time. So this was so ubercool it's not even funny. When I was reading the match, I was like "Yeah, Ryan/Box is cool, but I wanna see who wins" and skipped down a bit and saw that Tom was starting off an 8-man tag against Box and I was like "OH MY FUCK THAT IS AMAZING" and went back to reread carefully because I NEEDED to know how it got set up.
I've wanted to get Tom and Box to fight for so long, and getting to see them do it, AND HAVING TOM GET SOME UBER-FACE TIME was so magical. It was like eating Unicorn-Os. That whole thing was just severely cool and set the precedent for this next cycle, running up to Unnamed Payperview(Hey guys who are better with names: Get on that), that anything can happen, and you should buckle your fuckin' seatbelts...
Yes. Hell yes. All of the yes.
